Utredning av risker och begränsningar vid användning av gasmetallbågsvetsning vid montage / Investigation of risks and limitations when using gas metal arc welding for assembly

Morin, Claes January 2015 (has links)
This thesis work has evaluated the risks of getting lack of fusion during gas metal arc welding of single-bevel prepared T-joints. The work has been done at DEKRA Industrial AB that is specialized in certification, testing and inspection. The reason for this work is an earlier case where ultrasound testing indicated lack of fusion and lack of penetration was located in the major part of the weld joints in a construction. Those weld joints had been gas metal arc welded and had a single-bevel preparation. A literature study was done on the subject of weld arc theory and the cause of lack of fusion. Then four samples were welded trying to imitate the earlier case, two with a wide joint preparation and two with a narrow preparation. The samples were subjected to ultrasound testing and macroscopic analysis to evaluate the existence of lack of fusion and other defects. The literature study shows that lack of fusion appear as soon the weld arc miss the base material and the molten weld consumable solidify on unmelted material. One of the causes is a wrong pistol angle which will make the weld arc miss one of the joint walls. Also, another important parameter is the electrode stick-out. A too long stick-out generates a too cold process or a too large puddle of melted metal depending if the welding parameters are adjusted to compensate the stick-out. When welding with a single-bevel joint, there is a heightened risk of getting the described problems because of the bad accessibility. The results from the welding were that the narrow prepared joints were hard to weld with and get proper quality, with lack of penetration and lack of fusion. The conclusion from the welding and testing is that the risk of getting lack of fusion is high while welding narrow single-bevel prepared Tjoints.

Nytt material i kontaktröret vid MAG-svetsning / Using a new material in the contact tube of a MAG welding machine

Ivarsson, Tom January 2016 (has links)

Feedback Control of Robotic Friction Stir Welding

De Backer, Jeroen January 2014 (has links)
The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process has been under constant developmentsince its invention, more than 20 years ago. Whereas most industrial applicationsuse a gantry machine to weld linear joints, there are applications which consistof complex three-dimensional joints, requiring more degrees of freedom fromthe machines. The use of industrial robots allows FSW of materials alongcomplex joint lines. There is however one major drawback when using robotsfor FSW: the robot compliance. This results in vibrations and insufficient pathaccuracy. For FSW, path accuracy is important as it can cause the welding toolto miss the joint line and thereby cause welding defects. The first part of this research is focused on understanding how welding forcesaffect the FSW robot accuracy. This was first studied by measuring pathdeviation post-welded and later by using a computer vision system and laserdistance sensor to measure deviations online. Based on that knowledge, a robotdeflection model has been developed. The model is able to estimate thedeviation of the tool from the programmed path during welding, based on thelocation and measured tool forces. This model can be used for online pathcompensation, improving path accuracy and reducing welding defects.A second challenge related to robotic FSW on complex geometries is thevariable heat dissipation in the workpiece, causing great variations in the weldingtemperature. Especially for force-controlled robots, this can lead to severewelding defects, fixture- and machine damage when the material overheats.First, a new temperature method was developed which measures thetemperature at the interface of the tool and the workpiece, based on the thermoelectriceffect. The temperature information is used as input to a closed-looptemperature controller. This modifies primarily the rotational speed of the tooland secondarily the axial force. The controller is able to maintain a stablewelding temperature and thereby improve the weld quality and allow joining ofgeometries which were impossible to weld without temperature control.Implementation of the deflection model and temperature controller are twoimportant additions to a FSW system, improving the process robustness, reducing the risk of welding defects and allowing FSW of parts with highlyvarying heat dissipation.

DFM för Lasersvetsning / DFM for Laserwelding

Doktorian, Paul, Tuvesson, Fredrik January 2008 (has links)
The purpose with this thesis was to develop a designguideline which will simplify the development of new products that will be laser welded. The need for this thesis has come forward from the quality problems that Volvo Construction Equipment, Components Division is having with their laser welding manufacturing unit. The reason for the problems emerges from the bad communication between the development unit and the manufacturing unit within the company when the products produced today was developed. This resulted in products that were hard to and in some cases almost impossible to weld.   To avoid these problems from occurring again it was needed to gather the experiences within this area and compile it and present in a brief a pedagogical manner. The information for the groundwork of our results has been gathered by interviews of several key persons in Volvo Construction Equipment, Components Division. Other information channels have been a literary study, visiting other companies, participating in the manufacturing processes and participation in the project for non-destructive testing.     We have considered the following subjects after compiling the gathered information:   ·         Product design ·         Choice of material ·         Weld joint design ·         The limiting dimensions of the laser welding unit ·         The Heat Affected Zone, HAZ, after laser welding ·         Washing/Cleanliness ·         Testing – Destructive or non-destructive     There is no other company in the world that welds products with the same method and the same material as they do in Volvo Construction Equipment, Components Division. The conclusion is that the complications that arose when the products that are manufactured today were developed can be avoided if our designguideline were to be followed in the future new development.

Digital models of manufacturing : with emphasis on titanium welding for early product development

Al Choueyri, Yousef, Fayazi, Mojtaba January 2019 (has links)
This thesis work is part of the BTH research lab, focusing on developing the early product development, by analyzing how to integrate the manufacturing process with the early design process. A known problem in the manufacturing industry is the knowledge gap between the designers and the manufacturing process. Where in the early stages of the product development a knowledge regarding the manufacture process is needed. This is in many cases ignored by the designers because it is commonly thought that the responsibility of selecting the manufacturing processes for a product falls upon the manufacturers, despite the fact that the manufacturing processes in reality is highly dependent upon the design choses such as materials, size, shape, finishing and tolerances of the product. To mitigate this problem a variations of product ‘team’ approaches have been used where the idea is to involve a multitude of people with the necessary experience to produce a ‘production friendly product’. Those approaches have a few drawbacks mainly the problem of finding people with the relevant experiences or that the expertise only covers the manufacturing processes already used in the organization, losing the opportunity to benefit from any alternative manufacturing process. This thesis focuses on how the welding manufacturing technic, analysis can be integrated into the design process with the help of a digital model? To improve the communications between the manufacturers and designers, two excel files were developed. The first excel file aimed at the manufacturers where they can present the specific machines used in the workshop. Focusing on specific machine and workshops instead of on the general welding method will give the designers a better understanding of the feasibility of producing their design in a specific workshop instead of focusing on a specific manufacturing method. The second excel file is aimed at calculating and comparing the weld methods where the cost and requirements are derived for general welding methods and compared with the machine specifications gathered from the manufacturers using the first excel file. To assess the excel files, a parametrized CAD model of the rear engine turbine structure was developed, and three different cases were used to evaluate the developed excel files. The values used are presented in Appendix A: Table 11–15, and were gathered from public sources. Values were also approximated using regression analysis.

Konstruktion av upphängningsanordning till T22 provrigg / Construction of suspension device for T22 test rig

Touma, Johannes, Kasselia, Simon January 2020 (has links)
This thesis is about designing a suspension device for a test rig at Scania. Scania currently has several different test rigs, one test rig they have is T22. The purpose of this work is to develop a fixture that has the property of supporting a large gearbox so that the output shaft of the gearbox can be tested in the test rig T22. The method used for this development consists of several parts where the first part is to measure the current dimensions of the gearbox and then create a fixture in the CAD program CATIA V5 adapted to the dimensions taken before on the gearbox. Then the fixture constructed in CATIA V5 can be assembled with the gearbox to check if the dimensions are correct and fits together. Once the compilation has been completed, mechanical analyzes can be performed and then conclude with tests. The result of the project was a suspension device that is mounted on Scania's gearboxes which in turn are connected to test rig T22. Scania's existing components such as lifting beam and circular adapter were used and supplemented with arms that allow the gearbox to be mounted from behind in test rig T22.From this result we can conclude that Scania can mount the fixture on most GW gearboxes and perform measurements using the test rig T22.

Principkonstruktion för kvalitetsbedömning av medicinska slangsvetsfogar / Theoretical Prototype for Quality Assessment of Medical Tube Welds

Malmsten, Chanel, Ekberg, Amanda January 2022 (has links)
Medical tubes have a significant role in healthcare, which also puts a high demand on the machines that seal the tubes. The type of seal technique which is described in the report is radio-frequency welding, which joins a selected part of the medical tube into a weld. Today, ocular inspection is often used when inspecting sealed ends, which leads to incorrectly performed sealings accidentally ending up in laboratories. Manufacturing equipment that can test welds easily, can therefore be beneficial for all users of tube welds. To ensure the quality of welds, this study has aimed to develop a theoretical prototype, with the function to test the quality of welds made on medical tubes. In this study, various information has been gathered about what requirements a weld must withstand according to a selection of users and distributors, which has been used to develop the theoretic prototype. To fulfill the aim of the study a literature study and previous work were gathered. Then important key components were compiled and the ideas for the theoretical prototype were presented to the supervisors who provided feedback. This feedback was used to complete the final theoretical prototype. The theoretical prototype that has been developed is considered to have good user-friendliness, as human and machine interaction is minimal. Furthermore, it is also considered to be of great benefit to the users as the theoretical prototype is intended to perform tests on all types of medical tubing and their welds without rupturing the tube or contaminating its contents.

Blomqvist, Markus January 2018 (has links)
This report is based on a bachelor´s degree in Industrial Design Engineering for fifteen credits, conducted in Luleå at Luleå University of Technology during the spring term of 2018. The work is carried out with cooperation from the company Modul, which is located in Kalix and manufactures over 100 different products in thin-sheet metal. The aim of the project is to create a concept for a good work environment in the welding department, with the aim of reducing physical and mental stress on users, but also improving the organizational work environment while creating a better production flow and possibly increasing efficiency. This project has gone in three laps where the project has gone through different phases several times to avoid missing information or problems. In order to examine the context and gather information about the current situation there has been four study visits, interviews with the taskmaster and four users, a survey to the taskmaster and an observation in the welding department. The results of this contextual survey can be summed up by the observation and interviews with users that the users have the most problems with noise, climate, monotonous movements and loadings on the back, feet and the knees. Then there was also a lack of light in the welding box, space, oblique loads and stress that created problems for the users. In order to create concepts, two analyzes were made, where one analysis was a risk assessment analysis that provided information on which aspects of the work environment that were the most difficult at the various workstations in the welding department. Then an analysis was made of how stations, warehouses and other places should be close together in a so-called proximity analysis to facilitate the creation of concepts on layouts. A requirement specification was also created to evaluate and help develop concepts, where the weighted requirements were weighted by the project member and the taskmaster. The requirements used were: physical loadings, psychosocial work environment, climate, noise, costs, space, proximity needs, material flow, transport, safety and potential. Following the conceptualization, there are five different concepts that went on. Concept 1 is a concept where only some workstations have been moved to create more space. Concept 2 is a concept that has a small space to grind where the noise from the grinding station can be isolated and concept 3 also has a room for a grinding station, but in another place. In concept 4, the welding department is moved to another location in the factory and in concept 5 the welding department is expanded in the same location of the factory at present. The final result became a short-term and long-term concept, where both concepts have improved the working environment, for example by creating more space for workstations, so that there is no risk of stumbling over nearby storage places around the workstations, and the long-term concept has also improved material flow throughout the factory and not only inside the welding department. The final improvement proposals and recommendations is to continue to develop on the final concepts, rotate between workstations a little more often, add a light source to the welding arcs and change the work postures by using a custom chair when needed. Welders should not be responsible for working at multiple stations at the same time because it leads to stress and think about if it is needed to grind or if the noise of the grinding station can be reduced by doing it differently.

Arbetsmiljöutredning med Åtgärdsförslag för Svetsare vid Svetsning i Koppar : ABB Transformers Plåtverkstad / Study of Work Environment and Recommendations for Improvements for Welders when Welding in Copper : ABB Transformers Plate Shop

Isaksson, Linnea, Lemetti, Laura January 2012 (has links)
This thesis has been carried out at ABB Power Transformers in Ludvika at the plate shop, where large transformer boxes are welded together. The topic of the thesis was formulated together with our supervisor at the company, to assess air quality and work environment at the spot welding of copper. Copper exposure was suspected to be high, and an evaluation of air quality was needed. No previous exposure measurements when welding in copper have been made in the plate shop.   The purpose of this study was to evaluate and come up with three proposals for actions to create a better working environment for spot welding as well as to limit exposure to welding fumes generated during welding of copper. An exposure measurement of air pollutants during welding of copper was done to evaluate copper exposure compared to threshold limit values of substances in welding fume. Exposure measurements were made with personal monitors. In addition, measurement with stationary equipment and measurement with directreading instruments. The use of protective equipment and ventilation were studied. In connection with measurements interviews were made.   The results of exposure measurements showed that the occupational exposure limit value for copper was exceeded considerably during the spot welding with the MIG welding process. The threshold limit value of copper is 0,2 mg/m3 and the highest value measured was 1,05 mg/m3, measured outside the welding shield. Based on observations on the use of personal protective equipment it has been noted that protective equipment is available but not used to desired extent. Three control actions are proposed; (1) routines to change the respiratory protective equipment filter regularly, (2) start using local exhaust integrated in the welding gun to a greater extent and (3) improve the ventilation in the plate shop by installing displacement ventilation. The calculated costs for two of the actions, action (1) and (2), fulfill the company's payoff principle of 3 years.   The thesis will contribute to making all employees in the plate shop aware of the risks that the work involves exposure to welding fumes. But even that they think of their own and others' safety and health in their daily work and adopt measures that effectively reduce exposure to welding fumes. To invest in a good working environment involves costs, such as protective and risk education. However, this should not be viewed as a cost but rather that it is an investment in the long run, that improve employee health and performance at work. In conclusion: To invest in a good physical and psychosocial work environment is an investment to get an efficient and profitable business!
