Evaluation, information et perspectives industrielles lors des scissions de filiales par introduction en bourse / Valuation, Information and Industry Perspectives of Equity Carve-outs

Nous étudions l’évaluation, l’information et les perspectives industrielles lors des scissions de filiales par introduction en Bourse (ECO). Dans notre première étude, nous estimons les effets de richesse aux différentes étapes d’une ECO et leur lien sur les rentabilités boursières anormales de la société mère de la filiale. Nous trouvons que c’est la période de construction du livre d’ordres de l’introduction en bourse qui permet au marché financier de mieux estimer les effets de richesse positifs pour la société mère. Dans notre second travail, nousavançons que les ECO sont effectuées dans les secteurs industriels où les firmes présentent des opportunités de croissance plus faibles en moyenne. Nous démontrons que les industries concernées par des ECO ont des performances opérationnelles (mesurées par la rentabilité d’exploitation, les liquidités générées et la margeopérationnelle) plus faibles. Nous montrons également que les fusions acquisitions réalisées dans les industries où une ECO a eu lieu durant les trois années précédentes créent moins de valeur pour l’offreur que les fusions acquisitions qui ne sont pas concernées par une ECO. La dernière étude de cette thèse analyse l’impact d’une ECO sur la divergence d’estimations des analystes financiers et sur le nombre d’analystes suivants la société mère. Nous trouvons que la divergence d’estimations et le nombre d’analystes augmentent après une ECO. / We study the valuation, information and industry perspectives of equity carve-outs. In our first paper, we study the wealth effect of equity carve-outs and its relationship with the abnormal returns to the parent firm. Using thisrelationship we find that during book-building period of equity carve-out, the returns to the parent firm can be used to pre-empt the wealth effect of equity carve-out. In our second paper, we argue that equity carve-outs, on average, are carried out in industries, where opportunities are low. We find that these industries have low operating performance, gauged on profitability, cash flow and profit margin compared to industries where there are no carve-outs. In addition to this evidence, we find that the merger and acquisition activities, in which targetsare in industries where carve-out activities happened in last three years before the M&A activity, bidders have less value created compared to mergers where the target industry has no carve-out activity. In our third paper, we analyze the impact of carve-outs on the divergence of belief and the number of analysts following the firm. We find that divergence of belief increases after a carve-out and number of analysts following the firm increases, also.

The purpose of this study is to investigate/evaluate how employment officers handle the refugees who have different backgrounds and therefore different conditions for entering the labour market. Semi-structured interview was used and a total of seven employment officers participated and the result shows that all the participants experienced cultural clashes in their work. Everyone has their own way for solving this issue, for example to inform the clients how the employment officer works or helping the clients with their issues and questions. The aspects of ethnicity and gender are important especially for female clients during conversation for establishment since the living conditions between the genders are not always equally. Depending on the clients individually qualifications the employment officers will decide how to help the clients. Furthermore, the employment officers considered that those efforts offered to the clients are sufficient. However, establishment within two years is hard to achieve, especially for clients who are illiterates and women who have been housewives their whole life. The result should be interpreted with caution due to the few participants.

Development of soybean host plant resistance and other management options for the stem borer, Dectes texanus leconte

Michael Smith / Several studies were conducted to develop soybean management options that could provide protection from the soybean stem borer, Dectes texanus LeConte. Selected soybean genotypes were screened for host plant resistance against D. texanus. Soybean plants were grown in a footprint that could be covered by a field cage. When beetles were flying in the fields they were collected and placed in the field cages to increase the insect feeding pressure on the test plants. A susceptible commercial soybean variety treated with the systemic insecticide fipronil was used as a positive antibiosis check. Both commercial soybean varieties and plant introductions (PIs) obtained from the USDA National Soybean Germplasm Collection in maturity groups (MG) VI to VIII were tested over a four-year period. Since the number of ovipositions per plant could not be controlled, the ratio of oviposition punctures (OP’s) per live larvae (OP/ Lv) was used as a novel index of potential plant antibiosis to D. texanus. Field evaluations identified PI165673 as a genotype with a very high OP/ Lv ratio - similar to that for the fipronil antibiosis control. PI165673 appears to be potential source of resistance to D. texanus. Factorial analysis indicated that soybean maturity group was not significant factor in the expression of resistance. The OP/ Lv ratio appears to be more sensitive means of identifying antibiosis than other more conventional damage indices. The use of field cages demonstrated consistent plant responses from year to year during the multi-year study. Greenhouse-grown soybean plants, including transgenic plants containing the Manduca sexta chitinase gene, were not morphologically appropriate for successful D. texanus oviposition because the greenhouse-grown plants were poorly developed and had not produced enough pith in petioles. Therefore the greenhouse results were inconclusive. Analysis of the vertical distribution of D. texanus oviposition on soybean plants revealed that D. texanus oviposition was most likely to occur on leaf petioles on the upper five nodes of the plant canopy. Histomorphological observations of plant petioles indicated that the proportion of the petiole perimeter occupied by vascular bundles might be related to D. texanus oviposition. Both foliar and seed applications of fipronil suppressed D. texanus larval damage on soybean plants. The efficacy of these treatments was sustained for long periods, even until adult beetles were present in early August. The effects of the fipronil seed-treatment and harvest date on grain yield were both significant while the interaction was not. A physiological yield loss of 8.2% and plant lodging losses of 2.9% were associated with D. texanus infestation.

Tredagars föräldraaktiv inskolning av små barn : En vetenskaplig essä utifrån anknytningsteoretiska perspektiv

In this essay, we have used scientific methodology as means to correlate our reflections to scientific literature and theory. The purpose of the essay is to examine the three-day parent active introduction method and its influence on children, parents and teachers. We have interviewed four teachers from different pre-schools in Stockholm in order to gain more knowledge from other teachers point of view on our research. The essay starts with two different firsthand scenarios where we describe three-day parent active introduction. In one of the two scenarios the children are introduced in a group and in the other the children are introduced individually. Throughout the writing of the essay it has brought thought to our minds about the length of the introduction and how that length effects the childrens attachment. Since we want to gain deeper understanding of the childrens attachment to the teachers we have based the essay upon John Bowlby's attachment theory. We have also taken in to consideration other views by other psychologists and theorists, who argue that children need time to build the relationship with the teachers during the introduction and that parents should not leave their children too early in pre-school. We believe that it is one of the most important moments for the childrens continued development to establish emotional bonds with the person who takes care of the child. In our essay we leverage the importance of the attachment theory has in relation to the moment when the children are being seperated from their parents for the first time. Then we examine the pre-school curriculum, if it in any way advocates the three-day parent active introduction. We also want to clarify what three-day parent active introduction is about. In addition we also are interested in finding out why threeday parent active introduction increased so much in popularity. We believe that the introduction has to start from the individual child and that the child needs time to build relationships. / Vi skriver denna uppsats i vetenskaplig essäform, där våra reflektioner kopplas till vetenskaplig litteratur och teori. Syftet med denna essä är att undersöka tredagars föräldraaktiv inskolning och dess påverkan på barn, föräldrar och pedagoger. För att få in andra pedagogers perspektiv i vår undersökning har vi intervjuat fyra pedagoger från olika förskolor i Stockholmsregionen. Essän inleds med två olika egenupplevda berättelser där vi beskriver tredagars föräldraaktiv inskolning. I den ena berättelsen skolas barnen in i grupp och i den andra skolas de in enskilt. När vi skriver våra berättelser väcks tankar kring inskolningsmetodens längd och hur längden påverkar barnens anknytning. Då vi vill nå djupare förståelse för barnens anknytning till pedagogerna, har vi i essän utgått ifrån psykoanalytikern John Bowlbys anknytningsteoretiska perspektiv. Samtidigt utgår vi även ifrån andra psykologer och teoretiker, som menar att barnen behöver tid på sig att bygga relation med pedagogerna under inskolningen och att föräldrarna inte bör lämna barnen för tidigt i förskolan. Vi tror att detta att knyta känslomässiga band med den närmaste omvårdnadspersonen är ett av de viktigaste momenten i barnens fortsatta utveckling. I vår essä lyfter vi frågan om anknytningens betydelse i separationsögonblicket den stunden då barnen skiljs från sina föräldrar för första gången. Därefter undersöker vi förskolans läroplan om den på något sätt förespråkar tredagars föräldraaktiv inskolning. Vi vill även tydliggöra vad tredagars föräldraaktiv inskolning går ut på. Vi vill också försöka ta reda på varför tredagars föräldraaktiv inskolning blivit så populärt. Vi menar att inskolningen måste utgå utifrån det individuella barnet och att barnet behöver tid på sig att skapa relationer.

<p>Abstract</p><p>The aim in this dissertation is to investigate into the working of the rehabilitation process as to actors involved. A specific focus has been set on the component “Work introduction”. The study shows that the road back to work is a complex matter. Individuals involved have different backgrounds and living situations, which influence this rehabilitation. The empirical basis of the study is built on interviews of four employees and two earlier unemployed persons. The statements of the informants were analyzed through the two concepts: Activation and empowerment. The interviews revealed that the authorities were not entirely content with program “Work introduction”, since the cooperation lacked a coherent view on the common tasks. In some cases the result is that clients fall between the authorities. A main problem of their cooperation nails down to that the authorities apply different definitions. An insight of this study is that 50% get a job and 50% goes back to social insurance office after they had been passing through the program “Work introduction”. BVC-sjuksköterskan möter många föräldrar som har frågor om kostintroduktion till spädbarn, en av BVC- sjuksköterskans uppgifter är att undervisa föräldrar i kostfrågor. Studier har visat att föräldrar upplever att de får olika råd från BVC-sjuksköterskor, vilket kan göra föräldrarna osäkra på vilka råd de ska följa. Syftet med pilotstudien var att beskriva BVC-sjuksköterskans erfarenheter av att ge kostråd till föräldrar vid introduktion av fast föda till spädbarn. Fyra intervjuer genomfördes med BVC-sjuksköterskor inom barnhälsovården i Region Halland. Kvalitativ innehållsanalys användes som analysmetod. BVC-sjuksköterskorna upplevde att de gav god kostrådgivning till föräldrarna, varje familj sågs som unik och informationen anpassades till familjen på ett sätt som främjade föräldrarnas förmåga att följa barnets utveckling och identifiera barnets behov för en optimal introduktion av fast föda. Resultatet redovisas under kategorierna: strukturella faktorers betydelse för kostintroduktionen och familjens resurser och behov vid kostintroduktionen. En framtida fullskalig undersökning inom området skulle kunna ge underlag för strukturella förändringar inom BVC- verksamheten och utökade utbildningsinsatser för de som arbetar med eller kommer att arbeta med kostrådgivning vid introduktion av fast föda för spädbarn. / Child Health Nurses meet many parents with questions about infant´s food introduction, one of the child health nurse´s tasks is to educate parents on nutrition issues. Studies have shown that parents feel that they get different advice from Child Health Nurses, which can make them uncertain about which advice to follow. The aim of this pilot-study was to describe Child Health Nurse´s experiences of giving nutrition advice to parents at the introduction of solid foods to infants. Four interviews were conducted with Child Health Nurses within Child Health Servicesin Region Halland. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyze the text. The result of the pilot study shows that the Child Health Nurses felt that they gave good nutrition information to the parents related to structural factors of importance in food introduction and family resources and needs at food introduction. A future full-scale survey in the field could provide a basis for structural changes within the Child Health Services and enhanced educational initiatives for both Child Health Nurses and Child Health Nurse students.

This thesis is about 16 newly arrived students from Iraq enrolled in the introductory programme for newcomers, in two Swedish upper secondary schools during the academic year 2010/11. The study focuses on the newly arrived students’ possession of cultural, social, educational and linguistic capital and their migration experience as well as their plans for future studies. The theoretical framework is based on the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu and research in International Migration and Ethnic Relations (IMER). Of crucial importance is the sociologist Abdelmalek Sayad, who bridges Bourdieu and migration studies. Also, general sociological concepts like class, gender and ethnicity are used. Traditional ethnographic approaches such as observations, informal conversations and interviews are the main methods. The empirical results show that the newly arrived students have varying degrees of inherited assets, although the majority came from more affluent backgrounds. They also differed with regard to their school background. The ones who went to public schools in Iraq described the Iraqi educational system as authoritarian institution in which they had to conform to collective norms and values. Those who went to private international schools reported that their schools were similar to those in Sweden, but significantly more demanding. The youths also had assets that had little value in the Swedish educational system. One example is the ability to speak several languages like Arabic, Kurdish, Syriac and Chaldean. Newly arrived students usually have no experience of the Swedish school system and cannot speak Swedish. This limitation defines them as a disadvantaged group when they enter the Swedish educational system, in programmes specially designed for them. Furthermore, the newly arrived students are spatially and symbolically segregated from other students and are thus poorly integrated in into the schools’ ordinary activities. The newly arrived students quickly become aware of that they do not master the language and that they are not familiar with the study norms and roles in Sweden. However, the students express high educational aspirations and emphasize education as a key factor in achieving respectability. Or, in Bourdieu’s sense, success in the Swedish educational system represents symbolic capital, for the Swedish born population as well as for as members of their own ethnic group.

Vztah mezi zavedením eura a vnímanou inflací v pobaltskýdch republikách / The Relation Between the Euro Cash Changeover and the Perceived Inflation in the Baltic Countries

The relation between the euro cash changeover and the perceived inflation in the Baltic countries Abstract This thesis focuses on the effect of euro cash changeover on inflation perception, and its relation to the inflation measured by central banks or by national statistical offices. We present an analyses of inflation gap in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania at the euro introduction and detect its determinants by econometric methods. We use Ordinary Least Squares, Random Effects Generalized Least Squares and Fixed Effects estimator. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part examines the theoretical background of perceived inflation and focuses at the phenomenon of increased inflation gap at the euro introduction. Second part contains an empirical study on inflation gap. We find out that perceived inflation in Baltic countries does not show such a divergence, as it was presented at the establishment of the Eurozone. Moreover, we find out that education and available income in general has a small, but evincible effect on inflation gap observed at euro introduction.

This Master's Thesis deals with the introduction of the new type of contact lenses ACUVUE to the Czech market. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first is focused on theoretical analysis of the standard procedure for introducing of new products to the market which is possible to find in professional publications. The practical part analyses the introduction procedure of new ACUVUE contact lenses in Vision Care Division of Johnson & Johnson company. Final part of this thesis includes evaluation of the Vision Care marketing strategy and recommendations which can improve the introducing procedure for the future. The required outcome of this work is the evaluation of the analysis and set a few recommendation for improvement of the introduction process for the future.
