: En kvalitativ studie av kvarhållande mekanismer i biografiska skildringar av kvinnors erfarenheter av mäns våld i nära relation / Because every time you think it’s going to be the last one… : A qualitative studie of retaining mechanisms in biographic depictions of female experiences of domestic violence perpetrated by males

Elmqvist, Lisa, Johnsson, Sara January 2017 (has links)
This thesis analyses women’s stories and experiences of living in a relationship with domestic violence. The study is done in order to gain a deeper understanding of what the retaining mechanisms are that prevents women from leaving their partner. The research is carried out by the usage of qualitative textual analysis of autobiographical novels. With the support of the theories of shame and the normalization process it is possible to accentuate how women are staying in their relationships because of the mental degradation caused by the man. The retaining mechanisms are numerous and complex and both socio-economic and psychological factors contribute to that women stay in the relationship, which previous research also has concluded. This research concludes that the retaining mechanisms evolve and change throughout the relationship. The women’s reason for staying in the relationship is in the beginning their love for the man but later on in the relationship it evolves further into embracing the reality of the man and making the reasons for the violence legitimate

Implementing ICBT : An interview study of internet therapists' experiences of implementation.

Westman, Johannes, Vilhelmsson, Axel January 2018 (has links)
Internet-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT) for different kinds of mental health issues has been presented as an alternative to traditional face-to-face treatment based on research from the last decade. Despite clinical relevance and several advantages for both patients and therapists the implementation of the method is progressing slowly in many European countries. The purpose of this study was to examine therapists’ experiences of implementing ICBT in their everyday work. Interviews were conducted with eight therapists in a Swedish public health care setting, after which a thematic analysis was made. Four main themes were defined: A new method, A new role, Premises and Learning. The therapists have an overarching mutual comprehension of ICBT and its use, which is an important aspect of the implementation. The therapists explained that colleagues that don't work with ICBT, but still have a role in the implementation, sometimes lack knowledge and have negative preconceptions which obstruct the work. Furthermore, therapists talked about organized collaboration between active therapists not being prioritized in the everyday clinical work. Results from the analysis are discussed by applying Normalization Process Theory to the findings. Further research could examine the experiences of ICBT-trained therapists who have not yet started working with ICBT and of colleagues who do not work with treatment in workplaces where ICBT is being implemented.

Preschool teachers approach in suspected cases of domestic violence

Simba, Danielle, Rostek, Johanna January 2019 (has links)
Domestic violence is a public health and international problem. Previous research outlined the extensivity of the problem internationally and the missing approaches of professionals who work with young children. The study aims to explore the methods and routines used by preschool teachers in approaching suspected cases of domestic violence among preschool children in Sweden. The results show that there are only a few available methods and routines given by governmental agencies in guiding the preschool teachers to approach such cases. As an alternative, the preschool teachers themselves develop individual approaches like observation, documentation, and collaboration with different actors involved. The interviews were conducted with semi-structured interviews with four preschool teachers to give a deeper understanding of their knowledge about the topic and experiences with suspected cases of domestic violence and methods and routines. The normalization process theory (NPT) was used to highlight the complexity of modifying methods and routines for complex problems e.g. domestic violence. The method of deductive thematic analysis provided pre-determined themes connected to the theory and new themes emerged from the data during the analysis process.

Sköld, Alexandra, Nilsson, Annelie January 2013 (has links)

von Euler-Chelpin, Julia January 2021 (has links)

I would rather live like this than tell others” : A qualitative study on the influence of women´s social network and why women stay in close relationships where they are subjected to psychological violence

Ivarsson, Maria, Beka Cimili, Hafije January 2020 (has links)
Abstract The purpose of this qualitative study was to answer the questions by interviewing eight women about their experiences: How do women who have been subjected to psychological violence in close relation feel that they have been met by their social network? Why do women stay in relationships where they are subjected to psychological violence? The theoretical framework of the study includes Pierre Bourdieu's concept of social capital and Thomas Scheff's theory of social ties. A gender perspective has been used to map patriarchal structures. The results showed that the weak ties that arise in the relationship lead to the women experiencing shame and fear, which means that they remain in the relationships and that they do not tell the network about the violence. Women are treated to varying degrees but usually with understanding and empathy. It also emerged that the women tended to stay in the relationship if they lacked other people to identify with. How women's living conditions are degraded by destructive relationships is also affected by women's subordination in society. Keywords: Violence in close relationship, psychological violence, social networking, the normalization process, shame, separation

The Normalization Process of Multimodal Composition: The "Unseeing" People of Color

Davis, Yumani 01 January 2015 (has links)
This study attempts to identify normalization cues within multimodal scholarship to highlight moments of "un-seeing" multimodal composing practices and theoretical contributions from non-Western traditions. Advocates of this approach to teaching composition understand it as an effective way for incorporating other voices into the curricular structures of composition courses. However, the instructional resources do not include or cite research that does not lend itself easily to dominant views of composing within academia. I assert that academia must go further with how value is assessed. There is research that acknowledges the multiliteracies practices found within subcultures of America, and plenty of work that deems the communicative practices observed in these subcultural communities as valuable. However, it is more than just including and citing scholarship from and about people of color's compositional practices, academia must also employ these ways of knowing and being to fully empower students and utilize the knowledge that the students bring with them to the FYC classroom. The dominant assignment genre in academia is the academic essay. Other dominant methods of communication and transferring scholarship are the journal article, annotated bibliography, proposal, and personal essay. Not to mention the many scholars who have critiqued academia for privileging print literacies, which although may be multimodal, promotes a multimodality of one culture and ideological standpoint. Although the seminal texts from the study offer exceptional multimodal composition research and classroom resources, if we can agree that "the mission of education…is to ensure that all students benefit from learning in ways that allow them to participate fully in public, community, and economic life" and that literacy pedagogy, essentially what the FYC course offers, "is expected to play a particularly important role in fulfilling this mission," then failing to see the value and utilize the scholarship from and about people of color ensures those that are marginalized continue to be "un-seen" and students remain unprepared for the tasks of composing and communicating outside of school (New London Group 60).

Kvinnors upplevelser av att leva i en relation präglad av våld : En studie baserad på självbiografier / Women’s experiences of living in a relationship characterized by violence : A study based on autobiographies

Larsson, Camilla, Andersson, Emelie January 2019 (has links)
Bakgrund: Våld i nära relationer drabbar främst kvinnor. / Background: Violence in close relationships mainly affects women. The normalization process causes the woman to adapt to the man, this results in isolation, feelings of shame and worthlessness which results in suffering. The nurse's responsibility is to meet and alleviate suffering through an approach that is based on respect and empathy. Purpose: The aim was to highlight women's experiences of intimate partner violence. Method: A qualitative method was chosen and a qualitative content analysis was used to analyze six autobiographies. Result: In the result, nine categories with three themes emerged; Adaptation, Living under threat and To control the situation. Conclusion: Through women's experiences, the nurse can gain more knowledge about intimate partner violence. Understanding the importance of asking the question about violence and a respectful manner was crucial to creating trust.

Shared decision making via personal health record technology as normalized practice for youth with Type 1 diabetes

Davis, Selena 04 September 2018 (has links)
Engaging youth with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the self-management of daily tasks and decision- making provides opportunities for positive health outcomes. However, emerging adulthood and care transitions are associated with decreased clinic attendance and diabetes complications. The process of shared decision making (SDM) comprises four key elements – acknowledge, consider, decide, act - and is identified as an optimal approach to making self-management decisions, yet it has been difficult to implement in practice. Personal health record (PHR) technology is a promising approach for overcoming such barriers. Still, today PHRs have yet to root themselves into care and present an opportunity for improvement in SDM and engagement in self-management decision making. Using a sequential two-phased investigation, this dissertation describes how PHRs can be designed to enable SDM and integrated into clinical practice to engage youth with T1D in self-management decision making. Phase 1 proposed an integrated SDM–PHR (e-PHR) functional model justified by youth with T1D (n=7) and providers (n=15) via a user-centered design approach. Located within an interconnected EHR ecosystem, e-PHR integrates 23 PHR functionalities for the SDM process, whereby each SDM element was mapped to PHR functions with a moderate level of agreement between patients and providers (Cohen's kappa 0.60-0.74). The Phase 2 mixed methods, pre-implementation evaluation utilized an online measurement instrument and survey and individual interviews, underpinned by the Normalization Process Theory (NPT), to describe the four cognitive and behavioural processes (coherence, cognitive participation, collective action, reflexive monitoring) known to influence the success of complex socio-technical implementations. Youth with T1D (n=8), providers (n=11), and EHR/clinical leaders (n=8) in British Columbia participated. Reliability tests of NPT-based instrument negated the use of scores for the coherence and reflexive monitoring constructs. Qualitative results indicated that e-PHR made sense as explained by two themes for ‘Coherence’: game changing technology and sensibility of change. Participants strongly agreed (mean score=4.6/5) with ‘Cognitive Participation’ processes requiring an investment in commitment, explained by two themes: sharing ownership of the work and enabling involvement. Weak agreement (mean score=3.6/5) was observed with ‘Collective Action’ processes requiring an investment in effort, explained by one theme, uncovering the challenge of building collective action, and 3 sub-themes, assessing fit, adapting to change together, and investing in the change. Participants appraised e-PHR as explained by two themes for ‘Reflexive Monitoring’: reflecting on value, and monitoring and adapting. Finally, participants strongly agreed (mean score=4.5/5) that e-PHR would positively affect engagement in self-management decision making in two themes: care is efficient and care is person-centred. The establishment of a e-PHR functional model is a precursor to system design requirements. Using the NPT framework, findings from the process evaluation indicated participants invest in sense-making, commitment and appraisal work of this technology. However, successful integration of e-PHR into clinical practice to positively affect engagement in self-management decision making will only be attained when systemic effort is invested to enact it. Further research is needed to explore this gap to inform priorities and approaches for future implementation success. / Graduate

POLISERS UPPLEVELSER AV KVINNORS INSTÄLLNING TILLATT MEDVERKA I UTREDNINGAR GÄLLANDE PARTNERVÅLD

Edhammer, Helene, Heldring, Louise, Larsson, Sanna January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine police officer’s experiences ofwomen's attitudes towards participating in an investigation, based on theinitial crime scene hearing, in cases regarding domestic violence.Furthermore, the aim was also to investigate how police officer’s thinkthey should work to motivate women to participate in the investigation.Seven police officers were interviewed using a semistructured interviewguide. The results were analyzed using thematic analysis. Four themesand eight sub-themes were identified. The result showed that women'sattitudes toward participating in an investigation was either negative orambivalent. The negative attitude were due to normalization of theviolence and mistrust to the police and the legal system. Theambivalence attitude was caused by fear of repeated victimization anduncertainty concerning for example the legal proceeding. In terms ofhow police officer’s think they should work to motivate women toparticipate in the investigation, showed that strategies and appearancewere the two most central parts. There were two strategies that wereconsidered as most central. These were the structure of the patrol anddetachment. To have patience and how the hearing proceeds were seenas the most important factors regarding how to appear to be able tomotivate women to participate in the investigation. The Normalizationprocess were used as an explanation regarding women's attitudestowards participation in an investigation.
