THE DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION, AND EVALUATION OF AN EXERCISE PSYCHOLOGY WORKSHOP FOR PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINERS: A MIXED-METHODS APPROACH

Wright, Adam January 2015 (has links)
The field of personal fitness training is one of the fastest growing occupations in the United States. Historically, scholars, undergraduate institutions, and national certifying organizations that focused on the education of personal fitness trainers have given instructional priority to biological and exercise science content. However, more recent research has underscored the value of psychological and interpersonal skills in driving clients' health and fitness goal attainment. Consequently, the goal of the present study was to determine the impact of a five-hour exercise psychology experiential workshop on levels of perceived importance, confidence in knowledge, and content knowledge of key exercise psychology concepts and skills in a non-randomized sample of personal fitness trainers and students (n = 41). Through a sequential explanatory mixed methods research design, participants were assessed quantitatively pre-intervention and post-intervention. A qualitative follow-up assessment was conducted one-month post-intervention with a sub-set of participants (n = 17). The workshop produced significant improvements in self-reported measures of confidence in knowledge and perceptions of importance of key exercise psychology concepts and skills as well as content knowledge of the exercise psychology concepts covered in the workshop. Further quantitative analyses revealed that certain demographics, namely gender, age, and academic coursework had distinct associations with each of the outcome variables. Follow-up qualitative analyses suggested that participants rated the workshop highly and described their experience in predominately positive terms. Suggestions were provided on how to improve the workshop, particularly focusing on elements of its content and overall structure. Results from the current study highlight the need for increased exposure of personal fitness trainers to instruction in exercise psychology. Given the benefits of developing exercise psychology knowledge, skills, and abilities, the results of this research indicate that preparation for the personal fitness training profession can be enhanced through increased attention to exercise psychology. Limitations of the current study and future directions for outcome research and practice are discussed. / Kinesiology

Développement et validation d’un système de monitoring de l’ergonomie pour la formation en chirurgie robotique / Development of a new system for ergonomic evaluation and improvement of robotic surgery learning

Yang, Kun 26 April 2016 (has links)
This thesis is logically split into three chapters, concluding with a discussion on future applications. The first part makes an inventory of the difficulties in learning the basic skills in robotic surgery, especially in the aspects of exploiting the ergonomic benefits. It relies in particular on the master degrees of Drs N. Hubert and C.Perrenot to which the author participated. It is concluded that there is a need to develop a more efficient monitoring tool for ergonomics than the existing software on the dV-Trainer® simulator. The second part describes the design and validation of a system of forearms pressure sensors attached on the robot’s console and/or simulator’s armrests (SSP- Pressure Surveillance System). The concept of Armrest Load is created, a more effective formula for evaluating the trainees’ performance in ergonomics than the automatic evaluation provided by the simulator. The third part describes the improvement of the SSP system by adding additional functions and their evaluation: - An alarm informing the student of bad positions. This system creates a conditioned reflex, speeds up the ergonomic use of armrests on the simulator, and also improves the overall performance. - Cameras and a "Controller of Event in Robotic Simulation " (CESIR) interface, allowing the participant to view at will the reference video, the one with mistakes to avoid and the video of their own performances. This video technique is widely used in sports but is applied for the first time in surgery and proves its effectiveness. The conclusion part summarizes the results of the whole thesis and outlines the possibilities for CESIR’s improvement and its development in the French-Chinese collaboration in robotic training.

Kritéria klientek hotelového fitcentra pro výběr osobního trenéra / Criteria for selection a personal trainer by woman clients of fit center

Nykl, Karel January 2017 (has links)
Title: Criteria for selection a personal trainer by woman clients of fit center. Objectives: The aim of the thesis is to determine the significance of the individual criteria according to which the clients of the Living Well hotel fitness center select the personal trainer and compare the conclusions with the theoretical knowledge stated in the relevant literature. Methods: The thesis is divided into the theoretical (descriptive analytical) and practical part. Within the theoretical part, a literary research is performed by a descriptive analysis of professional literature dealing with active lifestyle, quality of life and meaning of physical activity. The importance of fitness centers as private business entities based on the individual needs of clients is analyzed. The practical part is a qualitative research carried out within the framework of the Living Well Hotel in Prague 8, which aims to determine the order and weights of individual criteria according to which the clients choose their personal trainer and the motivation to practice with the selection of a personal trainer. In addition to semi- standardized interviews with clients, the author uses his own observation (he works as a trainer in the fitness center) and performs a content analysis of internal company documents. The research team...

Vedení hráče v tenisovém utkání - koučink / Leading players in a tennis match - coaching

Vodičková, Karin January 2013 (has links)
ON- COURT COACHING IN TENIS - COACHING Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is to contribute to the topic of "on-court coaching", to find out the up-to-date experience of the tennis players and coaches, their opinion on the ideal coach and their attitude towards introduction of the on-court coaching into the tennis tournaments. Methods: We have used qualitative inquiry methods in our work. To obtain qualitative data, we have created two structured and controlled interviews. Two groups of subjects were used (players and coaches) to get two sets of results. We have deliberately chosen the subjects and then expanded results using "the snowball" mechanism. For evaluation, we assigned codes to certain sets of texts, classified them and commented on them. Some of the resulting answers were converted into relative frequency. We have analyzed acquired data to interpret the results question by question. First, we evaluated data from the "coach" group of respondents, then from the "players" group. Discussion is often part of the result interpretation. We have also frequently compared the result between the two target groups. Results: As we have discovered, the players and coaches used in this study, were well informed and experienced in this topic. This leads us to believe, that the obtained data...

No. of bitstreams: 1 Sylvia Bachiegga Rodrigues Pereira.pdf: 1507094 bytes, checksum: 395568fbadaef6d952952f626673566b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-10-04 / Organizations have established themselves in society as informal training spaces in order to qualify professionals for specific activities, usually the subjects dealt in these training are not offered at formal training. Thus, education as means of professionalization at work is being used at organizations to obtain quicker results and guarantee market competitiveness. Therefore it is in such scenario that the role of the trainer is consolidated where he is responsible for carrying out and mediating training activities at the companies. Findings from a study done with seven professionals who took the training programs at power companies show the path taken for these individuals to constitute their identities and also show the relationship and degree of importance given to practical experience and educational knowledge for their activities. Theoretical assumptions were used on identity construction from Claude Dubar and on knowledge base for teaching from Lee Shulman and many other authors. The methodology chosen for data collection was semi-structured interviews, classroom, with the use of a previously elaborated guide. Findings were analyzed and organized in five categories that meet the target of the survey. The paths taken by the trainers are varied, quite often they are not planned, but are rewarding when taken into account that they realize how relevant the opportunity is to transform and upgrade the professional s knowledge and skills during and after the training. Identity negotiations mark this path, because when the trainers go through it they are faced with situations that are always breaking or new definitions of self end up taking place, for example, the fact of having a reference to others and at the same time not being considered for other jobs inside the organization. It was evident that content knowledge is recognized as the highest value in relation to pedagogical knowledge and most individuals do not give great importance to the "training courses for trainers" offered by their organizations, for they see the experience gained throughout the work (which builds the basis of content) and lived in the classroom (which brings forth pedagogical practice) as greater significance to their constitution as a trainer. Although the pedagogical knowledge is not acquired through formal training, the respondents consider important to take the current context of the company to the classroom in order to connect it with the subjects that will be part of the training, and the representations and analogies, in order to facilitate understanding of the content.
