The wreck of the Dutch man o' war, Amsterdam, in December 1817 on the Eastern Cape coast of Southern Africa: an elucidation of the literary and material remains with an annotated translation of the Journal of Captain Hermanus Hofmeijer (1814-1818)

This study endeavours to elucidate the journal of Captain Hermanus Hofmeijer of the Dutch man 0' war, Amsterdam, which has been transcribed from the original script, translated from Dutch into English and interpreted from a contemporary viewpoint. It offers an opportunity to evaluate a unique primary historical document which records an important historical event. An attempt has been made to contextualise the incident in the light of the early history of the Dutch people. The contribution of the Dutch East India Company (VaC) to the trade and commerce of the Netherlands during the 17th and 18th centuries has been assessed together with the shipbuilding techniques that served to make the Dutch a major seafaring nation. The significance of Texel and Nieuwediep has been examined and the sea route and navigational instruments placed in perspective. The voyage has been analysed in some detail. The background of Captain Hermanus Hofmeijer has proved especially interesting. Although he pursued his career with the Dutch Navy, he was born and spent his early years in Cape Town, South Africa. The time spent by the Amsterdam in Batavia, Samaraog and Sourabaya gives an insight into the Dutch possessions overseas. The return voyage, storms and ultimate grounding are of special interest as Hofmeijer records the journey and events on a daily basis. The impact and significance of 217 extra people in the Eastern Cape area did not go unnoticed, and although the event was not well documented, an attempt at some contextualisation has been made. Finally a short overview of maritime archaeology in South Africa and its significance as a relatively new discipline has been included. The study of the material remains of the wreck of the Amsterdam has resulted in a new understanding of wooden ships built in the early 19th century.

Emma Lou Diemer (b. 1927) is a leading American composer, pianist, and educator. Although she composed many outstanding advanced-level piano works, she also believes that composing for other levels is a good discipline for composers. Her two collections Reaching Out and Travels Through Sound contain various contemporary techniques that are highly approachable for intermediate-level students. The purpose of this study is to provide a pedagogical guide to contemporary elements present in these collections, which are ideal for developing skills that can prepare intermediate-level students for more complex modern music. Diemer incorporates such contemporary features as complex rhythms and meters, non-traditional notations, and extended piano techniques, as well as non-traditional textures and forms. These techniques are presented in a compact and informative but not too complicated manner, so that intermediate-level students can master them.

El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como principal objetivo la investigación, validación de nuestro modelo de negocio, para así continuar con la implementación de este en el mercado real del Perú. La aplicación se basa en nuestro Business Model Canvas y las estrategias que fueron aplicadas en alianzas, recursos claves, canales, actividades clave, costos, entre otros. Coneix es una aplicación para Smartphone (teléfonos inteligentes), la cual sirve para adquirir paquetes turísticos a los usuarios que se afilien a nuestra plataforma desde la comodidad de tu celular. Esta aplicación está dirigida hacia turistas nacionales e internacionales, (hombres y mujeres) de los niveles socioeconómicos A, B. En lo que respecta a las edades en turistas nacionales está enfocada entre 18 a 65 y los internacionales que visitan el Perú a realizar actividades turísticas, está entre las edades de 25 a 64 años. Para realizar y hacer el análisis de factibilidad del proyecto se realizaron entrevistas. Por un lado, a los usuarios (clientes) que utilizarían la plataforma. Por otro lado, se desarrollaron entrevistas a expertos (agencias turísticas/proveedores de servicios turísticos) para poder validar si estuviesen dispuestos a ingresar y usar nuestra plataforma. Se pudo confirmar, que sí están dispuestos a descargar nuestra aplicación Coneix y utilizarla. Con esto, se mostró gran interés por parte del segmento de clientes y proveedores para formar parte de nuestra plataforma. Por lo mencionado y evidenciado en el proyecto, se puede concluir que nuestra idea de negocio es rentable y cuenta con un alto nivel de escalabilidad. / The main objective of this research work is the research, validation of our business model, to continue with its implementation in the real market of Peru. Coneix is an application for smartphones (smart phones), which is used to purchase tourist packages for users who join our platform from the comfort of your cell phone. Regarding the ages of national tourists, it is focused between 18 to 65 and international tourists who visit Peru to carry out tourist activities, is between the ages of 25 to 64 years. En la actualidad, la sociedad se ha visto afectada por la coyuntura actual a causa del Covid-19, generando cambios sustanciales en las tradiciones y costumbres de las personas, afectando consigo una de las principales industrias que contribuye al desarrollo y crecimiento de la economía del país, el sector turístico. Las actividades y los viajes turísticos en el Perú cesaron debido a distintos factores como las restricciones sanitarias, las dificultades de organizar un viaje, realizar reservas en múltiples páginas para servicios individuales, entre otras cosas. Debido a ello, Wasi Tour Perú nace con el objetivo de reactivar y hacer crecer el sector turístico del país, incentivando los viajes y recorridos turísticos, a través de nuestro servicio integral de reservas dentro de la plataforma virtual. El cual permitirá que los usuarios accedan a información de calidad de distintas alternativas de servicios como hoteles, restaurantes, transporte terrestre y agencia de turismo con recomendaciones y sugerencias de destinos de turismo para planificar y programar de manera sencilla y eficiente cada uno de sus viajes a diversos destinos del Perú. Este trabajo ha sido elaborado con el fin de desarrollar un plan integral para nuestra idea de negocio bajo el nombre de “Local Buddy” con el objetivo de conectar turistas de todo el mundo con guías locales, y de esta manera impulsar el turismo en el país. A lo largo de este informe se abordarán los siguientes temas: Diseño y desarrollo del Business Model Canvas; en donde identificaremos el perfil de nuestro cliente. Además del desarrollo del mapa de valor, junto con la descripción de nuestra propuesta de valor y los elementos diferenciales frente a la competencia. Luego, realizamos diversos experimentos a través de entrevistas y estrategias de marketing en redes sociales para la validación de todos los cuadrantes del BMC. Al término de ello, se procederá a explicar los componentes del marketing mix en donde se abordarán las variables: producto, precio, plaza, promoción y fidelización para el proyecto. Seguidamente, se elaborará el plan financiero, en donde se detallará la proyección de venta, el presupuesto de la inversión, los ingresos y egresos, flujo de caja, VAN y el financiamiento. Finalmente, se concluye el trabajo con las conclusiones y recomendaciones de toda la investigación, elaboradas por todo el equipo, lo que nos permitirá continuar con el desarrollo y mejoramiento de nuestra idea de negocio. / This report has been prepared in order to develop a comprehensive plan for our business idea under the name of "Local Buddy" with the aim of connecting tourists from all over the world with local guides, and in this way promote tourism in the country. The following topics will be addressed throughout this report: Design and development of the Business Model Canvas, where we will identify the profile of our client. En la actualidad si una persona desea irse de vacaciones tiene que organizarse y dedicar tiempo a buscar las opciones que más se adecuen a su gusto. Se sabe que una persona le dedica 60 minutos a la planificación de ello, una vez que han decidido el destino turístico al que se desplazarán, para cuya selección han invertido previamente 160 minutos en examinar las posibilidades que ofrece en cuanto a actividades en destino, y es por ello que podemos afirmar con certeza que esto puede llegar a ser tedioso y aburrido, es por eso que hemos creado una aplicación llamada Tripeando, la cual le solucione ese problema al organizar el viaje perfecto para el usuario según sus gustos y preferencias, dicha aplicación es la opción perfecta para simplificar la vida del usuario al momento de elegir su destino de viaje en donde contará con sugerencias dependiendo de sus gustos tanto en actividades como gusto esto se lograr mediante algoritmos que analizaran todo sobre los destinos deseados del usuario para de esta manera brindar una mejor experiencia y que el usuario salga satisfecho del aplicativo. Adicionalmente Tripeando cuenta con una zona de recomendaciones en donde antiguos usuarios cuentan sobre sus experiencia con el servicio que brindamos y sobre sugerencias en cuanto destinos que han visitado, esto permite al usuario que está navegando por el app una mayor confianza con la empresa. Por último para que la empresa Tripeando tenga una mayor cobertura en cuanto la llegada de nuevos clientes potenciales implementa una publicidad en sus redes sociales tanto Facebook como Instagram en donde consistirá tanto en sorteos como promociones en donde nos generará un mayor tráfico y de esta manera poder llegar a un nuevo público. / Nowadays, if a person wants to go on vacation, they have to organize themselves and spend time looking for the options that best suit their taste. Att våga resa igen? : En studie pm barnfamiljers ställningstagande till internationellt resande under COVID-19 pandemin sommaren 2021

The aim of this qualitative study is to investigate the behavioral changes of family travel during a pandemic. Travels which are in focus of this study are international tourism for the purpose of leisure and VFR- travels. This study is based on the Swedish national vaccination plan from Sweden's public health authority. The study’s data is collected from ten unstructured interviews with families that have children that are younger than 17 years old. The theoretical framework of the study is Roger’s 1975 (cited in Norman, Boer and Seydel 2005) protection motivation theory, Strong’s (1990) tourists’ fear of pandemic diseases and Zheng’s et al. (2021) post-pandemic travel behavior which are used as a tool to analyze the results. The empirical data is transcribed, coded, and evaluated with the help of thematic analysis, it shows how the families behavioral changes with a pandemica. The result of this study makes it clear that the vaccination process is an important factor in the families’ travel decision-making, but it’s not a crucial factor of determination. Other aspects such as economy and legal impacts are additional side effects of the pandemic crisis which are meaningful within the families’ post-pandemic travel behavior. / Denna kvalitativa studie ämnar till att undersöka barnfamiljernas resebeteende beträffande internationella nöjesresor och BSV-resor utifrån den nationella vaccinationsplanen från Folkhälsomyndigheten. Det empiriska materialet i denna studie har insamlats genom tio ostrukturerade intervjuer där olika barnfamiljer har reflekterat över sina tankar kring resplaner, inställning till vaccin och riskbedömning gentemot COVID-19. Studiens teorier är valda på ett induktivt sätt och består av Protection Motivation Theory (Roger 1975 se Norman, Boer och Seydel 2005), Strongs (1990) tourists’ fear of pandemic diseases och Zhengs et al. (2021) post-pandemic travel behaviour. En tematisk analysmetod har applicerats för att kunna analysera de transkriberade och kodade intervjuerna. Studiens resultat påvisar att vaccination mot COVID-19 har en stor betydelse för familjern internationella och BSV- resebeslut, men erhåller inte en avgörande roll i respondenternas slutbeslut. Studien visar även ett förändrat resebeteende hos barnfamiljerna som en konsekvens av pandemins sidoeffekter på turistbranschen, exempelvis ekonomi och juridiska svårigheter och nya regler att förhålla sig till.

This dissertation comparatively explores and critically evaluates the historical and traditional notions that are commonly held by Christian pilgrims visiting the Holy Land; and it does so by examining the archaeological, historical, and literary evidence, with specific reference to the existent material remnants that are closely associated with the burial of Christ Jesus. The research will highlight the impact that biblical archaeological findings and the results thereof have had on these identified pilgrimage sites. Barns mobilitet : En analys av barns skol- och fritidsresor samt det kommunala arbetet kring de respektive resorna / Children’s Mobility : An analysis of children’s school and leisure trips along with the municipal work for the various trips

Barn reser mycket, precis som vuxna människor gör. En stor andel av barnens resor går till och från skolan, men utöver det sker även mycket fritidsresor till bland annat föreningsliv och idrottsanläggningar. Hur barn reser i vardagen påverkar både barns hälsa och utvecklande av självständighet. Med anledning av detta handlar detta examensarbete om just barns mobilitet och hållbara vardagsresor. Syftet är att lyfta barns olika resande samt inspirera och ta fram underlag för ett vidare arbete med barns mobilitet. Studien utfördes främst genom litteraturstudier samt enkätundersökningar. En resvaneundersökning gjordes tillsammans med Järfälla kommun för elever och föräldrar på Skälbyskolan, där frågorna undersökte resorna till skolan samt fritidsaktiviteter. En ytterligare enkät skickades ut till kommuner i nätverket ResSmart i Stockholmsområdet, och undersökta huruvida kommunerna arbetar med skol- respektive fritidsresor eller inte samt anledningar till detta. Resultatet av undersökningarna visar att gång och cykel är de vanligaste färdsätten till skolan, oftast själv eller tillsammans med jämnåriga. Skillnaden är dock stor gällande hur många barn som cyklar beroende på årstid, där endast en mycket liten andel cyklar på vinterhalvåret. Till fritidsaktiviteter är det överlägset vanligaste färdmedlet bil, vilket leder till att barnens självständighet kring dessa resor är låg. Anledningen till skjuts till fritidsaktiviteter är främst avståndet men även kopplat till tiden på dygnet och det generella familjepusslet. Vid skjuts till skolan uppgavs anledningen vara tidsbrist och att föräldrarna ändå skulle resa vidare med bilen. Vid jämförelse mellan förortsskolan Skälbyskolan och Gustav Vasa skola i Stockholms innerstad, syns att gång är det vanligaste färdsättet i båda områden. Däremot sker varken skjutsning eller cykling till Gustav Vasa skola, trots att anledningen till skjuts när den väl sker är densamma som vid Skälbyskolan. Gällande det kommunala arbetet är det fler kommuner som arbetar med hållbara skolvägar än barns fritidsresor. Dessutom skiljer sig arbetssättet, och vid arbete med fritidsresor nämns endast fysiska åtgärder och mjuka åtgärder saknas helt. Utifrån resultatet har åtgärdsförslag presenterats för ett utvecklat arbete inom området. För skolresor bör fokus ligga på att påverka föräldrarnas resvanor samt underlätta för vintercyklande. För fritidsresor föreslås istället att mycket åtgärder kopieras från skolvärlden, och där arbetet bör starta med inventering och resvaneundersökningar. Vidare föreslås att mjuka åtgärder ska introduceras, samt att komplexa och långsiktiga åtgärder som fritidsbussar och tätare stadsplanering är nödvändiga. Slutligen menar studien att vidare arbeten och arbete krävs för ett fortsatt utvecklat arbete med barnsresor. Området fritidsresor behöver lyftas både i underlag och information men även i medier och i större forum. / Just like adults, children travel regularly in their everyday life. A major part of children’s travels goes to school, but apart from that children also do leisure travels to club activities and leisure facilities. The everyday travel habits of children affect both their health and independence. For this reason, this thesis will embrace children’s mobility and sustainable everyday travels. The aim is to raise the different travel types of children as well as present a basis for continued work within the topic. The study contains of literature research and questionnaires. One of the surveys was made in collaboration with Järfälla municipality. The two questionnaires, one for the students and one for their parents, investigated the travels habits to school and leisure activities for children in Skälbyskolan. Another questionnaire was sent to municipalities in the network of ResSmart. This survey collected information about if and how the municipalities work with children’s school travels and leisure travels, including also the reason why in some cases nothing was done. The result of the surveys showed that walking and cycling are the most common ways of transport to school. Most of the travels was done alone or with other children. Considering the use of bicycle, the use is dependent on the time of the year, where a large proportion cycle in summer but few in winter. To leisure activities, a great majority of the travels are made by car. Because of this, the independence of children’s leisure travel is generally non-existing. The reason why parents drive their children to leisure activities mainly depends on the distance, but also the time of the day in relation to darkness and the general family life. When driving children to school, the main reasons are lack of time and continued travels by car. When comparing Skälbyskolan with Gustav Vasa skola in the downtown of Stockholm, the result showed that walking is to most popular way of travel for both schools. However, neither cycling nor driving was made regularly to Gustav Vasa skola, even if the reasons when actually driving was the same as in Skälbyskolan. Regarding the municipality planning and actions, it is more common that municipalities work with sustainable school travels than children’s leisure travels. Furthermore, the working methods differ, where only physical arrangements are made within leisure travel routes and the lack of mobility management is a fact. With basis in the literature and survey results, action proposals are presented for a developed work within the area. For school travels, the actions should focus on reaching the parents and affecting their choice of mode, as well as actions for easier and more comfortable cycling during winter season. Considering leisure travels is the proposal to copy actions from the work with school travels, where the work should start off with inventions and travel habits surveys in leisure clubs. Furthermore, mobility management actions should be introduced, but also complex and long-term actions including leisure buses for children as well as compact city planning. Finally, the study mean that further work and surveys are needed for continued and developed work with children’s mobility. The area of children’s leisure travels should be raised both in planning documents and information, but also is media and larger forums.

A tese investiga as possíveis aproximações entre arquitetura e viagens de formação a partir das experiências de deslocamentos de dois arquitetos de São Paulo pelos Estados Unidos, entre 1943 e 1947. Formados respectivamente pelas escolas de engenharia do Mackenzie e da USP na década anterior, Henrique Mindlin (1911-1971) e João Vilanova Artigas (1915-85) empreenderam suas viagens aos EUA em anos decisivos de modelagem de sua atitude e liderança no campo profissional, de modernização do campo arquitetônico no Brasil, bem como de ampliação dos mecanismos de cooperação entre os dois países. Propõe-se entender estas viagens tanto em seus aspectos comuns, como um expediente caro à própria história da arquitetura, quanto nas particularidades de cada uma delas, dos arquitetos que as empreenderam, dos itinerários que desenvolveram e no momento mesmo em que o fizeram. / The thesis investigates the possible approximations between architecture and training trips based on the experiences of two US architects traveling from São Paulo between 1943 and 1947. They were graduated respectively from Mackenzie and USP engineering schools in the previous decade, Henrique Mindlin (1911-1971) and João Vilanova Artigas (1915-85) undertook their travels to the United States in decisive years modeling their attitude and leadership in the professional field of modernizing the architectural field in Brazil, as well as expanding cooperation mechanisms between The two countries. It is proposed to understand these journeys both in their common aspects, as a costly expedient for the history of architecture itself, as well as the particularities of each one of them, the architects who carried them out, the itineraries they developed and the moment they did so.
