Blå måndagar på förskolan: Förskoleveckans rytmer och rutiner

Spendrup, Pål January 2020 (has links)
The peaks and dips of the week has been the focus of both research, folk lore and popular culture. Research has been carried out in many different disciplines such as psychology, economics and medicine just to name a few and spawning the Day-of-the-week-effect, the Thank God it’s Friday-phenomenon and the Blue Monday-hypothesis. However, research concerning these weekly matters set in a preschool context is scarce or nonexistent. The present state of the Swedish preschool bear hard on both personnel and children. Using the rhythm of the week as a starting point for discussions can be a fruitful way to address these matters. The aim of this study is to reach an understanding of weekly rhythms in preschool by focusing on Mondays and Fridays. The research questions of the study is: 1) Which are the characteristic features of the preschool planning that is prominent in Mondays and Fridays? 2) How do preschool personnel reason about Mondays and Fridays? 3) How are Mondays and Fridays made in the preschools organizing of activities and in the interaction between children and colleagues? This study’s empirical material consists mainly of group interviews with preschool personnel but also written weekly plans from the preschool groups. The theoretical framework for the analysis is built on the concepts of rhythm, liminality and schedule provided by Lefevbre, Zerubavel, Fraenkel and Turner. The study indicates that the days of the week are affecting the preschool personnel and also how the organizing of the week is made. Much of the planned groups and activities are scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, thus leaving Mondays and Fridays on their own on each side of the weekend. This way Mondays and Fridays stands out, whether it has to do with the Blue Monday/Thank God it’s Friday-phenomenon’s or not. Perhaps Stormy Monday would be a more accurate description of the Monday in a preschool setting? This study has merely scraped the surface of the subject, which could be further looked into by examining the children’s view or making a more in-depth examination of how the rhythms of the preschool week is appearing in the daily activities.

Temporär användning i Malmös stadsutveckling

Olbers, André, Ehrendahl, Anton January 2018 (has links)
This study investigates how and why Malmö stad applying temporary use in the urbanplanning. Temporary use has during the recent years become significantly moreoccurring in the urban planning process, partly because the economic conditions for themunicipality has become increasingly limited. Temporary use is based on breaking freefrom the traditional large-scale and slow planning process, and instead applying smallscaletemporary interventions that can be gradually adjusted to create long-term change. The study is covered by a multiple case study where we conducted twoqualitative interviews with officials from Malmö stad. In addition to the interviews, wehave also conducted a document analysis. The three three cases we have studied areMalmö stads participation in the European Mobility Week 2016, the summer street onFriisgatan and two different foodtrucks events located in Malmö.The study concludes Malmö stad applying temporary use with differentpurposes and variated embodiments. The analysis shows that the underlying cause ofMalmö stad applying temporary use in the urban development is partly to activatedeemed unused sites for a limited time, but also to enhance the quality of the sites. Butalso to test different designs in public places. With temporary use, Malmö stad target toincrease citizenship involvement in the urban development process by creating atemporary platform. Malmö stad exhibits a ambition to work more with temporary usethe in urban development, and demonstrating awareness of the strengths andweaknesses of the approach. Malmö stads long-term goals and visions for Malmö havepermeated the temporary use. The approach has allowed Malmö stad to implement thesegoals and visions directly for a limited time.

Phygital Fashion Week : A Qualitative Study of the Contemporary Copenhagen Fashion Week

Turner, Joanna, Poth, Andrea, Göthelid, Linnea January 2023 (has links)
The value of fashion week’s physical presence has been questioned in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, when fashion week became fully digital. Once the pandemic subsided, the digital attributes were retained and combined with the physical space, resulting in a phygital fashion week. This new phenomenon, the contemporary fashion week that combines on-site and online activities, has therefore received little academic research. There is a lack of academic knowledge about how the post-pandemic setting of fashion week affects the physical value. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the post-pandemic setting of fashion week has affected the value of physical presence in regards to marketing communication through the lens of Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW). By conducting a case study of CPHFW, the goal is to bridge the gap by providing new research within the field of fashion marketing. A qualitative research approach was used to provide an in-depth perspective of CPHFW. The chosen data collection techniques were a combination of ethnographic and netnographic methods. The ethnographic methods were conducted on-site, physically at the AW 23 season of CPHFW, while the netnographic methods analyzed activities online, thus communication through social media platforms as well as press coverage. The results of this study indicate that there is a strong interdependence between the digital and physical fashion week, where the digital do not have an obvious position of power because it is dependent on the physical presence. Fashion week has evolved into a phenomenon conducted physically, with the aim of reaching a digital audience through the creation of spectacular on-site moments being shared online. This points to a complex power relationship between the two. Therefore, the value of physical presence remains strong in a post-pandemic setting of fashion week in regards to marketing communication. In terms of Copenhagen, the emerging fashion capital, the translation of the physical presence to the digital realm becomes even more important as it promotes its fashion week to a global audience. It enables CPHFW to communicate elements of differentiation digitally, thus strengthening the attractiveness of the physical presence.

With All Due Modesty: The Selected Letters of Fanny Goldstein

Glick, Silvia P. 11 December 2018 (has links)
With All Due Modesty: The Selected Letters of Fanny Goldstein is an annotated edition of the correspondence of Fanny Goldstein (1895–1961), librarian, social activist, and founder of Jewish Book Week. Goldstein’s accomplishments include building a significant collection of Judaica for the Boston Public Library; compiling some of the earliest bibliographies of Jewish literature in English; evaluating manuscripts for publishers; writing book reviews; and lecturing and writing on a wide range of subjects related to Jews and Judaism. The purpose of the edition is to provide a picture of Goldstein’s life as a Jew, a woman, a librarian, and a social activist and in so doing, to contribute to a more complete understanding of Boston’s Jewish community in the first half of the twentieth century. I have included in the edition both incoming and outgoing letters with a wide range of correspondents, including Charles Angoff, Mary Antin, Isaac Asimov, Alice Stone Blackwell, Felix Frankfurter, Molly Picon, Ellery Sedgwick, and Friderike Zweig. The letters span the years from 1930 to 1960. The edition includes extensive annotation based on Goldstein’s newspaper and magazine articles, pamphlets, book reviews, and other writings; hundreds of Goldstein’s letters not published here; accounts published in the Jewish press and the mainstream press; and correspondence neither written nor received by Goldstein but bearing on her life and work.

Inskolning och barns behov av att knyta an. : En kvalitativ studie om förskollärares tankar om den traditionella tvåveckorsmodellen. / Introductory schooling and children's need to create attachment. : A qualitative study on preschool teacher's thoughts about the traditional two-week introduction.

Andersson, Alma, Vilhelmsson, Matilda January 2024 (has links)
The study intends to give examples of how preschool teachers describe their work with introductory schooling based on the traditional two-week model. The study is based on attachment theory and following central concepts: attachment pattern, secure base, internal working models and attachment hierarchy. In the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with preschool teachers, where the interviewed talked about their experiences from traditional two-week schooling. The result of the study shows that relationships building is an important part of schooling. Here, the preschool teachers emphasize that the relationship with both children and guardians is important. The results indicate that the traditional two-week model for the pedagogues focuses on this, as the pedagogues spend so much time with guardians and their children. This further contributed to fewer conflicts with the guardians and safe children. There are factors that affect the course of schooling, where, for example, hysterically sad children are one. Children's previous experiences of preschool and other adults than their ordinary caregivers are a factor that can affect the course of enrolments which affects the relationship building with pedagogues at the preschool. The study shows that preschool teachers therefore take different approaches during schooling, where the preschool teacher either takes a wait-and-see approach or an active approach when approaching the children. The pre- school teachers do this in order to create the secure base for relations that both children and guardians need.

Effects of 8-Week Isometric Handgrip Exercise on Aortic Distensibility and Central Cardiovascular Responses

Levy, Andrew S. 08 1900 (has links)
<p> Recent evidence suggests that isometric handgrip training improves resting arterial blood pressure (BP) in normotensive and hypertensive individuals, however the mechanisms remain elusive. The purposes of the current investigation were to replicate the finding that 8 weeks of isometric handgrip training (IHG) improve resting BP in persons medicated for hypertension, to determine if training could improve aortic stiffness and to examine the acute cardiovascular response to IHG. Seventeen participants were recruited and familiarized with the laboratory and techniques used. Training consisted of 8 weeks of thrice weekly IHG training sessions using a pre-programmed handgrip dynamometer (4, 2-minute contractions separated by 4 minutes rest). Measurements of resting ABP (assessed by automated oscillometry), aortic stiffness (assessed by simultaneous ultrasound and applanation tonometry), and the acute cardiovascular response (heart rate, blood pressure, rate-pressure product, and cardiac output) were made at baseline and following 8 weeks of IHG training.</p> <p> Following training, there were no differences observed in resting systolic or diastolic systolic blood pressure, resting heart rate or cardiac output. Furthermore, handgrip training did not improve aortic distensibility or reduce stiffness index. The acute responses of heart rate, blood pressure, rate pressure product and cardiac output were not altered with training. In response to an acute bout of IHG there were significant increases seen in heart rate (55±2 to 65±3 BPM, p<0.01), blood pressure (systolic: 137.2±3.7 to 157.1±7.3; diastolic: 77.8±3.4 to 92.2±4.8 mmHg, p<0.01) and rate-pressure product (7369.4±302.0 to 10159.0±666.6 beatsxmmHg/min). Thus isometric handgrip training is a safe modality which does not appear to alter the stiffness of the proximal aorta or generate a significant cardiovascular strain in the acute phase.</p> / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

An investigation into the strength of the 52-week high momentum strategy in the United States : a thesis presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree of Masters of Business Studies in Finance at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand

Cahan, Rachael Marie January 2008 (has links)
This thesis extends the 52-week high momentum literature, which was first published by George and Hwang in 2004, by stressing the parameters of the trading strategy to investigate its robustness. George and Hwang, in their seminal paper, find that the ratio of a stock’s close price to its 52-week high price is a good predictor of future returns. The thesis stresses various parameters of the strategy - such as the percent of total stocks bought and sold each period – and applies the strategy over different time periods – such as bull and bear markets. The study finds that the strategy is more profitable over the later half of the data set due to underperformance in bear markets such as the 1929 market crash and subsequent Great Depression. The results also show a significant difference in profitability between bull and bear market periods. The second half of the thesis looks at a new area in momentum, the absolute 52-week high. The strategy buys stocks whose price has increased over the previous six months, and who also close to their 52-week high price. Stocks are only bought (sold) if their price has increased (decreased) over the past six months and is close to (far from) the 52-week high price. The aim is to cut out stocks that are considered to be underperforming in the 52-week high momentum strategy, leaving only true winner and loser stocks. This strategy was found to increase the strength of the 52-week high momentum strategy, and the results show that there is no longer a significant difference between bull and bear market returns.
