Upplevt hälsotillstånd och arbetssituation relaterat till ländryggsbesvär bland poliser

SAMMANFATTNING Ländryggsbesvär är generellt vanligt förekommande i befolkningen och samhällsekonomiskt kostsamt. Riskfaktorer för ländryggsbesvär beskrivs vara flerdimensionella, där nämns främst arbetsrelaterade och psykosociala faktorer. Poliser är en yrkesgrupp där arbetssjukdomar rapporteras vanligt förekommande oavsett kön. Trots det är polisers arbetssituation dåligt utforskad. Syftet med studien är att kartlägga upplevt hälsotillstånd och arbetssituation bland utryckningspoliser med fokus på ländryggsbesvär, som underlag för preventiva åtgärder. Metoden bestod av en tvärsnittsstudie i form av en omfattande enkätundersökning. Urvalet inom polisens utryckningsenhet i Västerås var totalt. Så många som 60 % angav arbetsrelaterade ländryggsbesvär, en större del med besvär var män och förekomst av tunga lyft var vanligare bland svarande med besvär. Personer med ländryggsbesvär tog i mindre utsträckning pauser, kände sig stressade på arbetet och besvärades oftare av kroppslig värk. Deltagarna själva kopplade sina ländryggsbesvär till dåligt utformad arbetsutrustning, dålig sittställning i yrkesfordonen och till fysiska ingripanden. Av litteraturen beskrivna riskfaktorer för ländryggsbesvär var vanligt förekommande inom enheten. Där nämns ogynnsamma arbetsställningar och arbetsmoment samt psykosociala faktorer i form av hög arbetsbelastning, lågt stöd från arbetsledning och låg möjlighet att påverka sin arbetssituation. Slutsats: För att förbättra arbetsmiljön för utryckningspoliser bör åtgärder inriktas mot belastningsergonomiska- och psykosociala faktorer i arbetet samt utformning av utrustning och arbetsfordon utifrån ergonomi och säkerhet. / ABSTRACT Low back pain is a common disorder which causes high economic costs for the society. Risk factors for back pain are described as multidimensional, including both work related and psychosocial factors. Police-officers belong to an occupational group were work related diseases are frequently reported, irrespective of gender. The work situation for these officers however is poorly covered by targeted research. The purpose of this study is to survey the health- and work situation among police-officers with the focus on low back pain. The hope is that the results can be used as a base for preventive interventions. A cross sectional design with an extensive survey was used for the study. The selection was total within the unit of patrolling police officers in Västerås. As many as 60 % reported low back pain, with an overrepresentation among men. Heavy lifting was more common among those with low back pain. Those reporting low back pain more rarely took breaks during the work day, they felt more stressed at work and were more often troubled with physical pain. The study participants linked their back problems to badly designed work equipment, badly adjusted vehicles and to physical interventions. Risk factors for low back pain, described by the literature, were common within the unit. Especially, work tasks involving unfavorable movements and body positions were singled out. Among psychosocial factors, low social support from management and low ability to influence the work situation were associated with low back pain. Conclusion: To improve the work environment for patrolling police-officers, measures should be focused on load and strain ergonomics, psychosocial factors as well as to develop equipment and vehicles more on the basis of ergonomics and safety measures.

O presente trabalho reúne elementos que possibilitarão entender e aplicar alguns aspectos de mensuração e controle de uso de recursos em desenvolvimento de produtos na área automotiva. Trata-se de um tema em que tenho participado ativamente do grupo internacional formado com esta finalidade e que agora, após seis anos de trabalho, consolidações e análises, estamos chegando à consolidação de todo o modelo. A preocupação do texto está focada na explicação do conceito, seus procedimentos visando o controle de recursos aplicados desde a estimativa até o controle dos gastos reais destes recursos. O texto também apresenta resultados de uma simulação de modelo que está em desenvolvimento a ser utilizado com esta finalidade de estimativas, controle e gerenciamento de recursos. Além do cumprimento da formalidade, este texto tem a pretensão de transmitir alguns aspectos de experiência prática no controle de recursos em desenvolvimento de projetos, vividos pelo autor, para futuras necessidades, quer sejam aplicados no setor automobilístico, quer sejam em quaisquer outros segmentos com as devidas análises e adaptações. / This report is a collection of elements that will permit to understand and apply some measurements and controls in relation to resources applied for methodology of products development inside the automotive area. The main reason of this text is to keep the focus in the concepts and their procedures to control the resources to be applied, since the estimates until the actual expenses control. This text also presents the results of one model simulation that is being in development with the objective of resources estimates, control and management decisions. Besides the formal target of this course, this text aims to be useful and to transmit some practical experience from the author with resources control related to projects development, for any kind of futures needs to be applied for automotive segment or other ones with necessary analyses and due changes.

Distúrbios de voz e violência na escola: relato de professoras / Voice disorder and violence in school: teacher\'s report

O presente estudo analisa as possíveis relações entre o uso profissional da voz de professores, inseridos em contextos de violência, e a saúde vocal. O seu objetivo central é analisar as implicações de algumas formas de violência na saúde dos professores do ensino fundamental do município de São Paulo, em especial na produção da voz, buscando especificamente: identificar as manifestações de violência presentes no contexto escolar; identificar como certos processos relativos à organização do trabalho propiciam situações de violência; e examinar se estas formas de violência interferem na saúde dos professores do ensino fundamental do município de São Paulo, em especial na produção da voz. Organiza a sua análise partindo da relação do tema violência com a escola e com a saúde e, em seguida, ao perceber que o professor é um profissional que vive situações de sofrimento em seu trabalho, que pode adoecer por exercê-lo nas condições que estão dadas atualmente e que, no caso da violência, fica exposto a uma série de condições e situações das quais não tem como escapar e como interferir sozinho, esboça as consequências da violência nas escolas na saúde do professor, em especial na produção da voz. Subsequente, aponta a sua delimitação aos grupos focais, realizados de fevereiro a abril de 2011, com 8 professoras da rede de ensino fundamental do município de São Paulo, que buscaram terapia fonoaudiológica por problemas de voz no Hospital do Servidor Público Municipal - HSPM. A seguir, revela a apresentação sistemática dos resultados obtidos nas 5 sessões de grupos focais realizadas. A partir da transcrição dessas sessões, fez as codificações das categorias, organizando-as, para melhor compreensão, nos seguintes quatro temas gerais: voz (I. voz como instrumento de trabalho; II. voz e condições adversas: sobrecarga e desgaste - 1. necessidade de falar excessivamente, gritar, outros recursos, 2. imprevisibilidades em sala de aula, 3. distúrbio de voz e impotência diante das adversidades; III. voz e adoecimento - 1. paradoxo: trabalhar com ou sem voz, 2. Distúrbio de voz e as tensões/emoções, 3. Desistência de se cuidar e frustração; IV. voz e violência - 1. reações emocionais e corporais à violência); o trabalho do professor (I. condições do trabalho - 1. estrutura física, material e de recursos humanos, 2. violência, condições e organização das escolas; II. organização do trabalho - 1. sobrecarga/intensificação do trabalho; 2. desvalorização da profissão; 3. problema de gestão da sala de aula, 4. relações no trabalho); violência (I. Diferentes compreensões acerca da violência na escola - 1. violência dirigida ao professor, 2. violência entre alunos, 3. violência institucional, 4. violência silenciosa, 5. violência do professor) e inclusão escolar e seus reflexos no cotidiano (I. Aspectos significativos do trabalho com a inclusão escolar - 1. estrutura física, material e recursos humanos, 2. capacitação para a inclusão escolar, 3. inclusão escolar e sobrecarga de trabalho, 4. violência e inclusão escolar). À luz das categorias apontadas, analisa, interpreta e compara os resultados da pesquisa com os já existentes sobre o assunto na literatura citada. Conclui, constatando que o esforço do professor do ensino fundamental do município de São Paulo em realizar a sua tarefa em contextos em que a violência é vivida de formas distintas pode interferir no desempenho vocal, ocasionando distúrbio de voz / The present study analyses the possible relations between the teacher\'s professional voice use, under a violent context, and vocal health. Its main objective is to analyse the implications of some forms of violence for the health of elementary school teachers in the city of Sao Paulo, specially for the voice production, specifically aiming: identify the violent manifestations present in the scholar environment; identify how certain processes relative to the work organisation provide violent situations; and assess if these forms of violence interfere with the health of elementary school teachers from the city of Sao Paulo, specially with the voice production. It organizes its analysis from the relation of the violence subject with the school and with health and, thereafter, realizing that the teacher is a professional that experiences suffering during the its labour, that can sicken by exerting it in the conditions that are presently provided and that, in case of violence, becomes exposed to a series of situations of which it has no mean to escape or to intervene on its own, the study figures the consequences of violence in the schools and in the teachers health, specially in the voice production. Subsequently, points its delimitation to the focal groups occurred on the period between February and April 2011 enrolling 8 public elementary school teachers from Sao Paulo city that sought for the phonoaudiological service of the Municipal State Workers\' Hospital - HSPM (acronym in Portuguese). Then, systematically presents the results obtained during the 5 focal groups\' sessions that occurred. From the transcription of these sessions, the encoding of the categories was made and they were organized, for a better understanding, into 4 general subjects: voice (I. voice as a work tool; II. Voice and adverse conditions: overload and wear - 1. Need to excessive speech, screaming, other resources, 2. Unpredictability of classroom, 3. voice disorder and impotence before adverse situations; III. voice and sickening - 1. paradox: to work with or without voice, 2. voice disorders and tensions/emotions, 3. withdrawn of self-care and frustration; IV. voice and violence - 1. emotional and physical reactions to violence); the teacher\'s labour (I. work conditions - 1. physical, material and human resources structure, 2. school\'s violence, conditions and organisation; II. work organisation - 1. overload and intensification of work, 2. devaluation of the profession, 3. classroom management issues, 4. human relations in the work place; violence (I. different understandings about violence in school - 1. violence towards the teacher, 2. violence among students, 3. institutional violence, 4. silent violence, 5. teacher\'s violence) and inclusion of students with disabilities and its consequences in the routine (I. meaningful aspects to the work with inclusion of students with disabilities - 1. physical, material and human resources structure, 2. capacity building for inclusion of students with disabilities, 2. inclusion of students with disabilities and work overload, 4. violence and inclusion of students with disabilities). In front of the pointed x categories, the study analyses, interprets and compares the findings of this research with what is present in the cited literature. It concludes that the effort of the public elementary school teachers in Sao Paulo city to develop his task in a context in which violence is lived in various distinct forms may interfere with the vocal performance, leading to voice disorders

Quais as ações ergonômicas existentes na instituição e essas são eficientes? Que adequações podem ser propostas considerando suas limitações legais? Quais os problemas e constrangimentos que se evidenciam? É possível propor adequações ergonômicas que possam melhorar o ambiente laboral e a qualidade de vida do servidor no exercício de sua atividade produtiva? O objetivo geral foi identificar demandas e propor ações ergonômicas para o cumprimento das portarias e orientações normativas relacionadas à atenção à saúde do servidor público federal, com ênfase na Ergonomia a fim de recomendar adequações para o ambiente laboral nas atividades realizadas por servidores técnico-administrativos do Núcleo de Educação Física e Desportos da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. A pesquisa, do tipo exploratória e descritiva, foi baseada na Análise Macroergonômica do Trabalho – AMT, de abordagem participativa, e utilizou-se da técnica de análise de conteúdo como tratamento dos dados obtidos. As ferramentas utilizadas foram entrevistas individuais semiestruturadas, questionário adaptado do ICT - Índice de Capacidade para o Trabalho e questionário NASA-TLX adaptado. Os resultados evidenciaram que existem problemas no ambiente laboral que estão afetando a saúde do servidor, provocando afastamentos, acidentes, aposentadorias precoces, além de deixar o ambiente laboral pernicioso. Também foi observado que a capacidade para o trabalho apresenta índices baixos e moderados gerando incapacidades laborativas a curto e médio prazo, e que a carga de trabalho encontrada foi elevada, sendo os principais fatores influenciadores nessa carga são a frustração e a demanda temporal. Identificamos através do levantamento legislativo que falta uma política pública que defina efetivamente a promoção de saúde, segurança no trabalho e assistência de saúde para o servidor público, estes que estão à margem da legislação de proteção e atenção a saúde do trabalhador. É necessário também que a instituição aprimore medidas e promova ações ergonômicas para elevar a qualidade da prestação dos serviços e prosperar a humanização do trabalho dos servidores públicos federais. / This study aimed to identify the ergonomic demands of a department of a federal public university in order to recommend adjustments to improve the work environment, seeking to answer the questions: What are the ergonomic shortcomings of the studied sector? What the ergonomic existing shares in the institution and are these efficient? What adjustments can be proposed considering its legal limitations? What problems and constraints that stand out? Is it possible to propose any ergonomic adjustments that can improve the working environment and the agent quality of life at work? The main objective was to identify demands and propose ergonomic actions to obey the healthcare ordinances and regulations towards the federal public agents, laying emphasis on Ergonomics in order to recommend adjustments to the working environment in the activities carried out by technical and administrative staff of Nucleus of Physical Education and Sports of the Federal University of Pernambuco. This research exploratory and descriptive was based on Macroergonomic Work Analysis – MWA and had a collaboration strategy and used the content analysis technique to process the data obtained. The tools used were semi-structured interviews, the questionnaire adapted from the CIW - Capacity Index for Work and the NASA-TLX adapted questionnaire. The results appointed that there are problems in the working environment that are affecting the public agent's health, causing absenteeism, accidents, early retirement, and leave harmful working environment. It was also noted that the ability to work have low and moderate causing incapacity for work in the short-medium term, besides the workload was on high level, and the main factors that influence this burden are the frustration and time demand. Also, it was identified through the legislative survey that lack a public policy that effectively set the promotion of health, safety, and healthcare for public agents, these who are out the protection legislation and attention to worker health. It’s also necessary that the institution enhance measures and promote ergonomic actions to improve the provide services quality and further the humanization of the work of federal public agents.

Exploring contributory factors to occupational stress among fire-fighters in the Polokwane Local Municipality, Limpopo Province

Thesis (M.A. (Social Work)) -- University of Limpopo, 2017 / The aim of the study was to explore the factors that contribute to occupational stress among the fire-fighters employed by the Polokwane Local Municipality, Capricorn District of Limpopo. The study focused on the following variables: working relationships, work load, nature of work, deadlines pressure and work-home balance. The nature of the study is qualitative. The study data was collected from July to September 2015. The researcher interviewed fire-fighters in Polokwane Local Municipality. An in-depth semi-structured interview was utilised as the data collection method. The instrument used in the study was a semi structured interview schedule. Data was thematically analysed. The study findings showed that working relationships, work-load, nature of work, deadline pressure and work-home balance contributed to occupational stress. The study also found that occupational stress had negative effects on both the fire-fighters and their organisation

A report on a research study presented to The Department of Social Work School of Human and Community Development Faculty of Humanities University of the Witwatersrand In partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Master of Arts in Occupational Social Work March, 2016 / Due to the lack of direct access to Human Resource (HR) offices, most public schools are usually neglected with regards to issues of health and occupational services. Teachers are faced with occupational challenges, such as stress, physical and mental health issues, increased work load, long working hours, unrealistic deadlines, inadequate remuneration, HIV/AIDS, poor personal financial management and relationship problems. Therefore, this requires teachers to have access to professional occupational services which aim to support and enhance their wellbeing when required. The research study explored on occupational services rendered at rural public high schools for teachers in Limpopo. The qualitative research approach and a case study research design were utilised. A type of non-probability sampling, purposive sampling also known as a judgemental sampling was used to select the research participants. The sample consisted of 19 teachers from two public high schools, who participated in three focus groups. With the various findings from the study and identifying challenges in the various schools, it is evident that the Department of Education, Limpopo needs to prioritise the provision of occupational health services to teachers in the rural areas. Such services are anticipated to enhance the wellbeing of teachers, which is further hoped, that learners will benefit from quality education as provided by teachers, impacting positively on the year end outcomes. / MT2017

Bakgrund: Den kvalificerade revisorns huvudsakliga uppgift är att i sin profession gentemot sina kunders intressenter intyga riktigheten eller meddela eventuella oriktigheter eller oegentligheter i sina kunders finansiella rapporter respektive deras förvaltning. Den kvalificerade revisorn är en viktig spelbricka i ett fungerande näringsliv. Revisorsinspektionens roll är att tillse att näringslivet i Sverige har tillgång till de kvalificerade revisorer som behövs och att dessa kvalificerade revisorer har den kompetens de behöver för att klara av sitt uppdrag. Revisorsyrket är en profession med hög status men antalet revisorer som avgår i förtid från sitt yrke har ökat och är per 2018 års ingång nästan lika många som pensionsavgångarna. Syfte:  Syftet med studien är att bidra med att hitta några av de anledningar som gör att kvalificerade revisorer avgår i förtid samt att undersöka och försöka förstå dessa anledningar. Metod: Studien har gjort avstamp i en abduktiv ansats där jag utgått från redan befintlig teori inom närliggande områden. Denna befintliga teori har sedan legat till grund för en teoretisk referensram med begrepp som strukturerats i Herzbergs tvåfaktorsmodell och sedan testats i empiriska studier. Jag har genomfört semistrukturerade intervjuer med före detta kvalificerade revisorer. Det material som erhölls i dessa intervjuer har transkriberats och sedan strukturerats och analyserat med hjälp av innehållsanalys i förhållande till den teoretiska referensramen. Resultat: Kvalificerade revisorer avslutar sin anställning för att de anser att det inte finns någon balans i arbetsbelastningen, det finns inga marginaler om något oförutsett skulle hända. Detta skapar en känsla av otillräcklighet som sedermera påverkar önskan att lämna professionen. Utöver detta kan även svårigheter för enskilda kvalificerade revisorer att välja att göra karriär enligt up or out-systemet på byråer inom revisionsbranschen samt svårigheten att samarbeta med mindre kunder där det finns ett större förväntningsgap påverka beslutet att avsluta sin profession i förtid. / Background: The main task of the certified auditor is to ensure that the financial reports from his or her clients are substantially correct and to report any irregularities or fraud found in the financial reports or in the management. The certified auditor is an important member of a well working economy. The main task of the Swedish Public Authority (Sw. Revisorsinspektionen) is to make sure that the Swedish business sector has the correct amount of certified auditors needed and that these certified auditors have the accurate knowledge needed to do the auditing. The profession of auditing is a profession with high status, but the number of auditors who resigned from their occupation prematurely has risen, and is, by the beginning of 2018, almost as high as the amount who resigned due to retirement. Purpose: The aim of this study is to find some of the reasons that render certified auditors to resign as auditors prematurely and to investigate and understand these reasons. Methods: The study sets off in an abductive approach where I build my case from existing theory in adjacent areas. This existing theory is then used to build a theoretical framework in which the concepts that are analyzed using content analysis are structured in Herzberg’s two-factor model and subsequently tested in empirical studies. I have conducted semi-structured interviews with former certified auditors. The material that was thus obtained in these interviews has been transcribed and then structured and analyzed in relation to the theoretical framework. Conclusions: Certified auditors choose to terminate their careers as auditors because they consider the work load to be unbalanced and to crammed, there are no marginals in case something unforeseen happens. This creates a feeling of insufficiency which eventually effects the desire to quit working as an auditor. In addition, there may also be difficulties for individual certified auditors to choose if they want to make career in terms of the up or out-system that exists in audit firms. Also, certified auditors may experience trouble in collaborating with smaller clients in due to the expectation gap. These concepts also affect the decision to terminate the certified auditors profession prematurely.

Att arbeta inom socialtjänsten som socialsekreterare inom utredningsenheten för barn och unga kan anses vara ett stressigt arbete med hög arbetsbelastning samt att deras arbetsmiljö ofta är omtalad. Syftet med studien var att undersöka vilka faktorer som socialsekreterare inom utredningsenheten för barn och unga upplevde kunde påverka deras psykosociala arbetsmiljö. Studien byggde på kvalitativa intervjuer och resultatet analyserades utifrån kravkontroll- och stödmodellen. Resultatet visade att socialt stöd är en viktig komponent för att må bra i rollen som socialsekreterare. De slutsatser som vi kan dra genom denna studie är att det finns obalans mellan de krav som ställs på socialsekreterare och de resurser som finns att tillgå. Förutsättningarna behöver bli bättre för att socialsekreterarna inte ska bli utsatta för stress och ohälsa och på så sätt få en bättre psykosocial arbetsmiljö. / To work as a social worker within investigations at social services specialized in children and young adults is assumed to be stressful with a high workload. Consequently, their working environment is often discussed. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to investigate what factors social workers, working under these circumstances, perceive as affecting their psychosocial working environment. This study was based on qualitative interviews and the result is analyzed with help of the demand- control- and support model. The result indicates that social support is an important component to consider in order for social workers to be healthy in their roles. The circumstances need to improve to prevent social workers from being exposed to stress and unhealthiness, and thereby improving their psychosocial working environment. Our conclusion from this study is that there is an imbalance between the requirements asked from social workers and the resources available.

Reducing internal lead times in MTO & job-shop production environments: a case study

This Master’s thesis has been carried out within the subject area of Production Development and Management and aims to reduce internal lead times in make-to-order (MTO) and job-shop production environments with the use of identified theoretical methods. The reason this particular production environment was chosen was the flexibility and satisfaction it provides its customers. Today, customers expect customised products, a situation which causes problems for manufacturers as they are unable to produce such products in large amounts. In order to investigate problems with these kinds of environments and the causes for long lead times, we have conducted a literature study where we identified the problems these particular kinds of production environments experience regarding production planning and control which are related to the immense amount of time consumed by changeovers because of high demand variance and high requirements for customisation. To affirm the theoretical findings, we opted to undertake a case study and chose Talent Plastics Gislaved AB as our case, because this company utilises an MTO and job-shop production environment for its production of highly customised products with high demand variance. In the analysis of our case, we found that the wastes in the organisation were similar to those identified in the theoretical findings. The current planning system and the current state of the manufacturing lead time system were evaluated and a theoretical framework using a combination of lean production, work load control and constant work-in-process theories was suggested. We claim that concentrating on the reduction of setup times can lead the job-shop towards drastically decreased lead times and a much more effective use of time throughout the organisation. Because the organisation will continue to face problems due to the ever-increasing demand variance and requirements for customisation, there are plenty of opportunities for further research in these kinds of production environments. Emerging theories, such as quick response manufacturing, may also be tested to construct an efficient framework.

En hel del tidigare forskning tyder på att ha en balans mellan arbetsliv och privatliv är viktigt för att uppleva ett psykiskt välmående samt för att kunna prestera bra på arbetsplatsen. Då verkstadschefer på ett industriföretag genomgår ett stort förändringsarbete undersöktes hur fem manliga chefer upplevde sin balans mellan privatliv och arbetsliv. Delsyften med studien var att undersöka hur chefens roll i privatlivet påverkade balansen, i vilken grad stöd hemifrån påverkade balansen samt vilka konsekvenser en balans eller konflikt skulle kunna få. Studien genomfördes kvalitativt, med en semistrukturerad intervjuguide, där samtliga respondenter var påverkade av förändringsarbetet. Resultatet visade att det fanns verkstadschefer som upplevde en konflikt mellan arbetsliv och privatliv men även de som upplevde en balans. Gemensamt upplevde samtliga chefer att de ojämna arbetspucklarna, som uppstod i högre grad med anledning av förändringsarbetet, var påfrestande samt påverkade work-life balance negativt. Dessa arbetspucklar medförde minskad kontroll för att hantera arbetskraven. Något som cheferna upplevde frustrerande var att de har begränsade möjligheter att leva upp till kravbilden eftersom resurser och befogenheter saknades.  Vidare visade studien att förhållandet cheferna hade hemma med olika krav beroende på vilken livsfas de befann sig i, hade en mycket stor påverkan på deras upplevda work-life balance. / Previous research suggests that to have a good relationship between work and private life it is important to experience a-good mental health and success at work. The industrial managers’ in this study were undergoing a major change at their workplace and this study found examined how five male managers’ perception of their work-life balance. One of the aims of this study was to examine how the managers’ roles at home affects work-life balance (WLB), to what degree support at home affects WLB, and the impact that a balance or a conflict could have. The study was conducted qualitatively with a semi-structured interview guide and every manager was affected by the change at the workplace. The results showed that some of the managers were experiencing work-life conflicts where others were on the other hand experiencing a good WLB. The most common reason for feeling conflict between work-life was the uneven amount of workload, which occurred to a greater extent due to the change. These periods of uneven workload caused the managers to feel less control. One of the things that caused the managers to feel frustration is that they had limited resources and authority to handle the demands at work. The situation at home also had a very big impact on whether the managers’ experienced a good WLB or not.
