[en] AN EXPANDED CINEMA: THE THEORETICALPRACTICAL EXPERIENCE OF THE NOVA IGUAÇU FREE CINEMA SCHOOL / [pt] UM CINEMA EXPANDIDO: A EXPERIÊNCIA TEÓRICO-PRÁTICA DA ESCOLA LIVRE DE CINEMA DE NOVA IGUAÇU

26 May 2021 (has links)
[en] This research investigates the cinematographic process of creation from the theoretical-practical experience of the Free Cinema School of Nova Iguaçu (ELC), located in the neighborhood of Austin, in the Baixada Fluminense region. It is a study carried out during 2014, based on an approach to the school methodology and observing the lessons of one of its classes - specifically the tools that culminated in the creation of the Montão de Coisa (Heap of Thing) videodance. The empirical research presented here is based on the records of the audiovisual workshops given by the school mediators, notes in field notebook, photographic records and videos made by the researcher, on the material publicized by ELC and also on two interviews with the producer, given during field research. Originating from the concepts of ELC methodology, the categories body, word and territory appear in this thesis as keys to the reading of the creation process in order to highlight the relations that permeate the cinematographic making in the school experience and that mobilize the creation of the aforementioned videodance. The undertaken analysis reveals how the encounter of these subjects with the cinema, crossed by creative and subjective processes, allows them to experience an experience of otherness, that is, of encounter with the other and with the world. In addition, the tensions that permeate this process potentiate the aesthetic encouragement, thus giving to this experience also an aesthetic character. While the word appears as a form of expression, emphasizing a symbolic field, and valuing the linguistic and gestural singularities of students and mediators, the body emerges with its tensions (the one that operates the camera and the one that is filmed by it) and the gesture extracted, brought and addressed by the students and mediators. At last, it is with and in the territory that these actions take place, making it a fundamental piece to understand how the actions of creation of the ELC happen. Thus, thinking of the expanded cinema as one that goes beyond the limits of conventional cinema (that one crystallized by industrial and entertainment cinema) and that is projected on other screens, in other spaces, it is concluded that this is the cinema experienced in Austin. Seen by the bias of an expansion, amid the actions that are outcome of the dispositif and tensions that permeate the process of creation, it [the cinema] is constituted amongst the inventiveness of the daily life of that space and the creativity of the involved subjects.

VEŘEJNÝ MĚSTSKÝ PROSTOR – RUDOLFOV / PUBLIC CITY SPACE – RUDOLFOV

Kordík, Pavel January 2015 (has links)
The main goal of my work was find and define a form of content for potential reconstruction of the castle Rudolfov. The purpose was a make this castle a good place for serving to city. This thesis is a last from analyzes and proposals for dealing with the city Rudolfov and its public space, which I developed in the whole masters degree: City - Vision for the Future. My work has been divided into four semesters. In first one, i have made a detailed analysis of the city Rudolfov and identifying the problem areas and main city problems, which I also discussed. In the second semester the work was focused on new study for new city center. In the third semester, I continued working on urban development studies of the northern slope with relation to the newly created center. For the thesis I chose the troubled and valuable place of the city with a cultural monument that formerly served as barracks and today it is looking for a new use. All studies were designed to contribute positively to the future development of the town Rudolfov.

A participatory approach to eliminating Musculoskeletal disorder risk factors in a paper industry workflow : Developing an assisting tool for paper industry workers by exploring work tasks through participatory design activities

Lindqvist, Johan January 2024 (has links)
This project was implemented as a Master thesis project in Industrial design engineering (IDE). In collaboration with Billerud Karlsborg, the project was initiated to develop proposal for a technological solution for eliminating a manual handling work task in the production line for coated paper products. The design process was implemented  as a Participatory design approach, inviting the workers of the production unit to collaborate in design activites and workshops. The participatory approach was based on the Scandinavian perspective on Participatory design, with influences from the comtemporary views on collaborative design. The project included a holistic ergonomic analysis focused on the assessment of musculoskeletal disorder risk factors in the work task flagged by workers as a cause of work strain. The focused work task documented in detail and assessed through REBA and RULA assessment. The work task involves manual handling of a stack of residual paper that is rolled to a tube, by hand, and subsequently lifted and pushed to a grinder inlet for re-purposing. While the ergonomic analysis confirm that there are postural risk factors present, the pace of work suggests that adequate resting for preventing work stain related to the focused task is possible during work. However, the percieved work strained is suggested to originate from work task in close connection to the focused task. A proposal for a concept that sufficiently eliminates the risk factors found in the focused task is developed based on a human-centered design and anthropometric principles. The development concludes with the construction of a prototype, but time constraints denies evaluation of the prototype with end users. The concept is therefore presented as renders of a 3D-model.

Hellfritzsch, Ron, Groß, Sören, Mappes, Timo 22 July 2022 (has links)

Baby, Marie-Pier 12 1900 (has links)
In Haiti, road safety is an important public health issue, causing more deaths and injuries that the country’s health system can provide for. Knowledge transfer (KT) strategies are needed to promote evidence-based policy-making (EBDM) to improve road safety. A KT strategy was developed to share with key actors the results of three recent studies about road safety in Haiti. The present research’s purpose was to evaluate the appreciation, the content, and the impact on knowledge use by key actors of this KT strategy. This research used a mixed-method design, using quantitative questionnaires (n = 13/16) two to three months following the workshop at the center of this strategy, and qualitative interviews (n = 12/16) seven to nine months post-workshop. The workshop was generally appreciated by participants, especially for the quality of the data presented and its multidisciplinary approach. However, they were disappointed by the absence of decision-makers and by the limited number and variety of stakeholders present. Even though the participants reported a strong will to do so, the workshop had limited effect on knowledge use. This study highlighted the potential of deliberative workshops as a knowledge transfer strategy in LMICs, as well as the importance to include policy-makers in the process. This research also resulted in certain recommendations for future workshops, in the objective of increasing knowledge use and of promoting evidence-based decision-making.

Supporting Interaction Designers through the Accomplishment Support Tool: IxD Companion

Cotoranu, Alexandru January 2012 (has links)
This thesis paper addresses a problem of motivation that interaction designers experience when managing multiple design processes while keeping track of many design considerations. Once this issue is described at length, the paper focuses towards a possible solution in the form of a hybrid between creativity and productivity support tools: an accomplishment support tool. This tool is meant to support interaction designers in their experience with managing multiple processes. This paper does not suggest that interaction design is the only profession that suffers from the motivation issue that is described, nor does it deny that other professions could benefit from the use of such a tool. The paper merely attempts to narrow the issue down to one profession so that it may be addressed within the limits of the thesis project. The paper explores the need for such a tool by inspecting and analyzing current methods and digital applications used by interaction designers and mentions how this need is addressed with solutions based on relevant theories from diverse areas of interest. As defining qualities emerge from a combination of theoretical and practical research, case studies are described from a preparation perspective and then as experienced by workshop participants and interviewees. The case studies (which include workshops and prototype modules) are then reflected upon and discussed in terms of their impact on the overall goals of the thesis project. A final prototype in the form of a web application, IxD Companion, is then described through scenarios of use and assessed in the conclusion. Suggestion to future work on accomplishment support tools such as IxD Companion, as well as others, is provided at the end.

Design and evaluation of a visual rapid prototyping environment in an existing smart home platform

Hamada, Skander January 2017 (has links)
Recent advances in the field of Internet of Things (IoT) are placing its own vision, as a platform of interconnected services and devices, at the heart of the smart home concept. This consolidation promises a new wave of innovative products designed in the open, and in which the user takes center stage starting from the very first steps. Therefore, researchers as well as product designers in these increasingly related fields are now tasked with a more complex mission when investigating user behavior. In this thesis we consider rapid prototyping as the upcoming standard process for investigating user interactions in the future smart home. Although past research contributed with several self-contained solutions (built from scratch) to allow such investigations, no accounts were found tackling the problem from our perspective, in which the focus is on how to enable rapid prototyping in an existing proprietary smart home platform by using open standards, software and hardware. To answer this question, we conducted our research with participation of academic researchers and professional designers in the context of an academic and industrial partnership, in an ongoing smart home research project. We used an approach based on the design science research process in combination with the user centered design (UCD) and agile software development methodologies. During this thesis we performed an end to end design process starting from ideation to implementation and evaluation; an architectural blueprint was proposed and a working prototype of our visual smart home rapid prototyping environment (SHRPE) was implemented and tested. The obtained results demonstrate the feasibility of enabling visual rapid prototyping capabilities in an existing smart home platform, by using the system integration process to introduce available open standards, software and hardware tools into the platform. In addition, evaluation results of user testing confirmed that using UCD to iteratively capture user needs in such complex context is a solid approach.
