Les pratiques artistiques dans le champ de l'insertion professionnelle comme support de construction identitaire dans le passage à la vie adulte / Artistic practices in the field of vocational integration : an alternative to support identity building in the transition to adulthood

Pittet, Christophe 24 September 2014 (has links)
This research aims to understand the place and function of artistic practices among young adults receiving social assistance who are part of a work integration process. Starting from conditions linked to development of identity in the transition to adulthood and the changes of the Social State, we were interested to understand how artistic and cultural practices in the field of social work may act as an alternative to support the access to vocational training in young adults. From an integration program developed in Lausanne (Switzerland), which uses the arts as the focal point for psychosocial support, we observed that artistic practices foster the development of self-esteem, strengthening confidence and extending the interpersonal network. Artistic media are also vectors of professional socialization because they may help young adults to be re-registered in a rhythm; they require adaptability and flexibility abilities and they tend to improve self-management skills. This utilitarian dimension reexamines the uses of art for the purpose of behavior standardization to meet professional requirements such as leadership and sense of responsibility.

'I am so tired, I wish my life was over' : An analysis of the potential inclusion of the novel 13 Reasons Why in the EFL classroom

Ekholm, Julia January 2018 (has links)
The increased usage of media and technology has not only opened new areas for bullies, but also made the visible form of bullying invisible. In addition, movements like ‘me too’ have blossomed showing that sexual harassment is and has been a prevalent issue in the Western world for a long time. Simultaneously, adolescents’ suicide rates have increased. Therefore, selecting a Young Adult (YA) novel like 13 Reasons Why for the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom may work to address these topical issues and possibly help students understand the consequences of bullying and sexual harassment.

[en] KANGAROO GENERATION: THE PROLONGATION OF FAMILY LIFE / [pt] GERAÇÃO CANGURU: O PROLONGAMENTO DA CONVIVÊNCIA FAMILIAR

CELIA REGINA HENRIQUES 28 July 2004 (has links)
[en] This thesis is an attempt to account for the phenomenon referred to by the media as the kangaroo generation in terms of the interrelations between the family sphere and the contemporary social context, on the basis of the belief that it is in this interaction that it is configured. The phenomenon in question is the fact that many young adults choose to continue living with their parents even though they already lead independent lives outside the home. The delaying of the departure from the family reflects a constellation of intrafamilial factors - ambivalence towards departure and the loss of achieved roles - and extrafamilial ones, arising from a social context sharply marked by instability and uncertainty. The field study involved seven middle-class families in Rio de Janeiro, seven parental couples and eight children aged 26 or older. The object of the research was to analyze the ways how families see this pattern of coexistence, as well as to bring out the agreements settled on by family members in order to extend in time their assigned roles.

A changing didacticism : the development of South African young adult fiction from 1985 to 2006

Williams, Jenna Elizabeth 16 July 2013 (has links)
This thesis endeavours to establish how political transformation in South Africa has impacted on the didactic function of locally produced young adult fiction between the years of 1985 and 2006. To this end, a selection of young adult novels and short stories are examined in relation to the time period during which they were written or are set, namely the final years of apartheid (from 1985 to the early 1990s), the period of transition from apartheid to democracy (approximately 1991 to 1997), and the early years of the twenty-first century (2000 to 2006). Chapter One provides a brief overview of publishing for the juvenile market in South Africa over the last century, noting how significant historical and political events affected both the publishing industry itself and the content of children's and young adult literature. This chapter also adumbrates the theoretical foundations of the study. The second chapter examines a selection of texts either written or set during the final years of the apartheid regime. This chapter establishes how authors during this period challenged notions of racial inequality and undermined the policies of the apartheid government, with varying degrees of success. The authors' methods in encouraging their (predominantly white) readers to question apartheid ideology are also interrogated. Those novels written after, but set during, the apartheid era are examined with the aim of determining their authors' didactic objectives in revisiting this period in their novels. Chapter Three explores how authors writing during the transition period aimed to encourage readers to participate in the building of a 'rainbow nation,' by portraying idealised modes of relating to the racial 'other.' While some of the authors examined in this chapter are optimistic, and even naïve, in their celebration of a newly established democracy, others are more cautious in suggesting that decades of oppression and separation can so easily be overcome. Chapter Four demonstrates how the freedoms afforded by a democratic society have prompted young adult authors to explore the possibilities of adapting the sub-genre of the teenage problem novel to suit a distinctly South African context. While some of these texts are not overtly didactic in nature, they confront the unique issues faced by a generation of South African teenagers raised in a democratic society, and in some cases challenge readers to reconsider their approach to such issues.

Christian life narratives of young adults who have non-Christian family members in the Republic of Korea : narratives of keeping faith

Kwan, Hee Young 06 November 2008 (has links)
The present research has been undertaken within a narrative approach which is based on social constructionism. For the purposes of fostering more effective communication between science and theology, I also adopt the postfoundationalist way of thinking which was suggested by Van Huyssteen. I made use of the seven movements that were proposed by J C Müller to present the research undertaken with four young adult Christians. Korea is a multi-religious society in which various religions coexist, such as Buddhism, Confucianism, Shamanism, Christianity and several new religions. In the religious background of Korea, people are free to choose their religion, but sometimes their religious freedom has been limited by the patriarchal family system. In particular, young adult Christians who are in the period of emerging adulthood may face an even more difficult situation when they practise a different religion from that of their family. They are still under the strong influence of their parents emotionally and financially, but they want to be adults with their own independent identity. Moreover, Korean social prejudice against Christianity causes the young adult Christians much difficulty in maintaining their faith life comfortably. In order to listen to their stories regarding their faith life, I selected four young adult Christians who have non-Christian family members in their household, who are unmarried, and are therefore still dependent on their parents. With the co-researchers, individual interview sessions and group interview sessions were held, and a web-activity devised in which their stories were told and developed in collaboration with various disciplines that were influencing their discourses within the stories. They were experiencing tensions with their non-Christian family members in maintaining their Christian faith life and were feeling powerless in the relationship with them. Furthermore, in their relationship with other Christians in the church the co-researchers complained about the lack of understanding, regarding their specific family background, shown by those believers who do have Christian relatives in their household. The narrative research process allowed the co-researchers to interpret their difficult stories and to think through the meanings of these and their effect. In this manner, they could reinterpret their painful stories and uncover new meanings that might assist them to be more satisfied in the future. Having discovered new meanings for their painful stories, the co-researchers are not powerless people any longer; instead, they are active people who are dreaming for, or envisioning, a better future with their non-Christian family. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

De Villiers, Christina Magrietha 15 September 2014 (has links)
M.Com. (Information Science) / Although the influence of literature cannot be determined exactly, it is generally accepted that it can influence attitudes and values and therefore play an important role in the socializing process of the adolescent. One of the most important processes the adolescent undergoes is the development of his/her sex role through socialization, within the context of the family and society at large. In addition the traditional role of women through the ages has undergone such substantial changes that women play an increasingly important part in society. The modern woman can attain self-realization and self-expression through marriage, motherhood and a career. The problem addressed in this research, is whether the portrayal of women in available youth literature is a realistic reflection of society at a particular point. The ideal is that the attitudes that are projected are not biased toward either of the sexes and that boys as well as girls may develop to their full potential within the prescribed boundaries of their sex roles. Because of the feminist interest, much research has been done since the sixties and seventies regarding sexism in children's and youth literature. Virtually throughout, the findings of these investigations showed that the female characters are portrayed as passive stereotypes. The portrayal of women in literature awarded with the Scheepers Prize for Afrikaans youth literature is investigated in this research.

Family dynamics and students' characteristics as predictors of undergraduate college student adjustment.

Moore, Lindsey Kathryn 05 1900 (has links)
The problem addressed is to ascertain how selected factors impacted the adjustment of undergraduate university students. Undergraduate university students (n=382) from the University of North Texas completed measures of basic student information, perceived level of family support and level of parental attachment, and perceived level of college student adjustment. Parental Attachment and Family Support were found to positively correlate to the level of adjustment to college. Analyses of these data reveal a statistically significant difference in student adjustment to college when comparing the participants by age, university classification, and living arrangement. Further analysis reveals that there is a statistically significant difference between gender, race, students' marital status, and parents' marital status when measuring the outcome of perceived family support. Perceived level of parental attachment differs significantly when comparing students by their race, marital status, and their parents' marital status.

Still in contemporary times, there has not been a consistent government policy to subsidize financially and structurally quality education for people who attend classes of youth and young-adult education, nor adequate training for education professionals who work in it. After conducting analysis in the CAPES thesis database and of scientific research available to public domain on the subject of social representations, affectivity and adult education, we found that few studies that articulate these issues had been accomplished, demonstrating to be a fertile field for further researches. Therefore, our research goal was set to analyze the social representations of teachers at the EJA approach about their teaching training and the relevance of affectivity in the teaching-learning process in this approach. The data collection instruments were the free association of words technique (TALP) and interviews. Sixty-seven teachers who work in the Youth and Young-adult Education Center - CEJA, the institution which is responsible for EJA elementary school - Cycle I, and in the Youth and Young-adult Education State Center, institution which is responsible for EJA elementary school - Cycle II and high school, participated at the first moment of data collection. It is worth mentioning that the choice of these two institutions is justified by the fact that they are both responsible for offering and managing formal education for young, young-adult and elderly students in Bauru / SP. This study about social representations is based on authors such as Jean-Claude Abric and Serge Moscovici among many others who study teacher training, affectivity and Young and Young-adult education. The inductions terms were "Teacher Training for EJA" and "Affectivity in Teaching-Learning Process". The words aroused by teachers separately, according to each induction term, were analyzed using the content analysis technique and the EVOC software. Based on the data collected, it seems that teachers received no guidance on how to teach at the EJA approach during their beginning training courses. Their performance is improved through daily teaching practice and in contact with the idiosyncrasies of the students. Continuing education is incipient to support their performance consistently to the complexities of this education approach. Social representations of EJA teachers about their training can be infered, in their daily practice, as directed to commitment to the students and based in emotional perspective, in which love and responsibility are more significant than the technical competence and the didactic and pedagogical training. In relation to affectivity in the teaching-learning process, it¿s possible to see that, for most of the interviewees, a subtle line divides a paternalistic attitude of a political, progressive and ethical one. There is a need for teachers to systematize the knowledge they have about affectivity and pedagogical practice, so that they can significantly mediate students' relationship with the objects of knowledge, developing a liberating pedagogy / Doutorado / Politicas, Administração e Sistemas Educacionais / Doutora em Educação

Metabolismo energético multicompartimental: modelos preditivos derivados da DXA / Multicompartmental energy metabolism: predictive models derived from DXA

Ana Claudia Rossini Venturini 18 December 2017 (has links)
The traditional method to estimate REE does not take into account the metabolic activities of organs, bone tissue (BT), adipose tissue (AT), muscle tissue (MT) and brain. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the REE of Brazilian young adults from a multicompartmental way (DXA) referenced by indirect calorimetry (IC). A sample of 155 university students of both sexes (18-30 years) was submitted to anthropometric measurements, to estimate REE by IC and total body scan (DXA) of the molecular level. After transformation of DXA components to the organ-tissue level, the REE was determined for each component. The agreement (Bland-Altman) between measured REE (CI) and predicted (DXA) was carried out to validate the tested model. How validation failed, a new model was developed (Linear Regression - ENTER) and validated (PRESS) having as dependent variable the five variables generated after the relativization of the GER given by the IC for the model tested plus the sex variable. The analyzes were performed with the statistical package SPSS v. 20.0 (Chicago, IL); MedCalc® 2015 (v.15.2); and Minitab® (see 17.3.1), with significance level at ? = 0.05. The results showed higher values of adipose tissue free mass (ATFM), head area and residual tissue (RT) for men and lower values of fat mass (MG) and adipose tissue (AT) in relation to women. Higher expenditure (p <0.001) were found in men for all components compared to women, except for AT (p <0.001). In the comparisons between measured and predicted differences (p <0.001) were found for the total sample, men and women. In this way, specific equations for each component were proposed and validated by the sum of the squares of the residues, in the coefficients (R2PRESS = 0.95, 0.73, 0.80, 0.16, 0.84) and the reduced error reliability (SPRESS = 14.2, 1.8, 46.3, 48.1, 87.2) for the expenditure of AT, BT, MT, brain and RT. In conclusion, this approach has important implications for the evaluation and interpretation of multicompartmental energy metabolism considering the interpersonal differences in the production of heat. It is a strategy applicable in the context of health or sports, for prescription of exercises or manipulation of diets, as it portrays the magnitude of GER of each body component

Performance diária e condições psicossociais de adultos jovens submetidos a tratamento ortodôntico / Daily performance and psychosocial conditions of young adults subject to orthodontic treatment

Hélio Gomes da Silva 01 October 2014 (has links)
This study applied an appropriate methodology to correlate the benefits of orthodontic treatment with possible improvements in psychological conditions, in daily performance of the individual and validate the association with improved quality of life. The study evaluated the impact of orthodontic treatment on daily performance and psychosocial conditions in young adults, aged between 18 and 30 years. Specific questionnaires OIDP PIDAQ, AC (IOTN) and the DAI, validated and tested for reliability and consistency, previously to work, statistical analyzes were applied: Cronbachs alpha, the factor analysis and logistic regression, in addition to exploratory basic technical data analysis as mean, median, standard deviation, absolute and relative frequency. The sample comprised two groups: group I (n=101): individuals who had their orthodontic treatment completed within the last 24 months; group II (n=55): individuals who look for orthodontic treatment. The treated group (group I) was made an analysis of the clinical records and the whole orthodontic documentation, focusing on the main complaint that led him to seek treatment (aesthetic or functional complaints) and applied the OIDP and PIDAQ indices. In Group II Clinical examinations were performed by a calibrated evaluator and applied the OIDP, PIDAQ, DAI and AC (IOTN) index. Results: The model was statistically significant with Wald statistic equal to 30.4 and p-value less than 0.0001. The impact on the Group I was POSITIVE, because the values of oral impacts on daily activity were lower compared with group II; assessing PIDAQ known significant values indicating that group I had better psychosocial conditions compared with group II. Conclusion: We conclude that group I showed significant statistical values for the OIDP and PIDAQ, regarding Group II, confirming positive impact of orthodontic treatment in improving psychosocial conditions in daily performance and strengthening the association with quality of life.
