No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 1146243 bytes, checksum: 2ac3979c90cb9c57ae77cc1c96b6704e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-02-29 / The chemical dependency today is a widely discussed phenomenon, and among the most destructive drugs stands out the crack. The crack addicts, who seek treatment to dump the drug use, face abstinence – surrounded period of anxiety. With a large number of crack addicts in our country, it is necessary to search for alternative measures that help to reduce anxiety levels. The present study aimed to investigate the clinical anxiolytic potential of Citrus aurantium L. on crack addicts in abstinence. The study was developed with internal users admitted to therapeutic farms in Paraiba, Brazil. The sample consisted of 51 volunteers, who were divided into three groups. To elicit anxiety, were used the Public Speech Simulation (PSS). Physiological measurements was evaluated in the experiment using appropriate equipment, as also psychological measures of anxiety levels, using the State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Analog Scale Humo (EAH). The essential oil of Citrus aurantium L. was administered by nebulization. The experiment was developed in unique and individual sessions and consolidated in four stages: (I) Basal (II) Stressor, (III) During and (IV) Final. Data analysis was performed using parametric and non-parametric statistical methods. The results showed that the volunteers of the groups using the OE kept anxiety levels controlled during the PSS, with statistical difference when compared to "control". Volunteers, who used the OE also maintained stable levels of the "discomfort" and "Cognitive Impairment" measured by EAH in moments of realization of PSS. It follows that internal crack users individuals in abstinence have a high trait anxiety, and the EO Citrus aurantium L. nebuliser presented acute anxiolytic effect on internal crack users in abstinence submitted to PSS.

Guilherme Giani Peniche 29 August 2016 (has links)
Introduction: The experience of pain felt by high performance athletes is very common, and it is a sign of good performance in training and in competition too. There is a growing demand for integrative and complementary therapies aiming wellness, quality of life and performance increase, without the risk of doping. The science of aromatherapy, that studies the therapeutic use of essential oils (EOs), has shown positive results empirically, however, research is necessary to validate such practices in order to safely and effectively serve those who need it and seek it. Objective: evaluate the effect of essential oils over high performance athletes pain. Methods: Quasi-experimental pilot study, blinded to the participant, with two phases: the first one with the use of placebo (15 days) called Pain A group; the second with EOs (15 days) called Pain B group; and a follow-up of seven days. Convenience sample of 26 high performance adult athletes. For intervention, a synergy of EOs (lavender, ginger and sucupira) was used, and for placebo an inert vegetable oil (OV). For data collection, the following questionnaires were used: a sociodemographic data and sports practice questionnaire; a pain and treatment recall questionnaire; the Brunel Mood Scale (BRUMS), and the Brief Pain Inventory (IBD). For data analysis, it was used the fixed-effect model, the Bonferroni test, the d Cohen test, and descriptive measures of central tendency and variability. Results: At the beginning of the treatment, the 26 athletes scored 5.2 of pain average (Pain A group) and 5.6 of pain average (Pain B group). After the treatment with OE (15 days), the pain was reduced by 79% and 81% at the end of the follow-up period (p <0.001). The tension level measured by the Brunel Mood Scale indicated improvement of 37% after the period of OE application, and 49% after the follow-up period (p <0, 05). Conclusion: The results showed that the synergy of essential oils at 10% dilution had effect on the pain of high performance athletes in three daily applications for 15 days and residual effect by seven days of follow-up (p <0.05). In addition, the results showed effect on the athletes mood, with reduced tension (tension and musculoskeletal strain).

Aromaterapia e yogaterapia no climatério: Os efeitos de aromaterapia e yogaterapia na qualidade de vida, nos níveis de stress e na intensidade e frequência de fogacho em mulheres na fase do climatério / Aromatherapy and yogatherapy in climacterium: the effects of aromatherapy and yogatherapy on quality of life, stress levels and intensity and frequence of hot flashes in climacteric women

Cassandra Santantonio de Lyra 06 December 2013 (has links)
Hot flashes are the symptom with highest incidence. Aromatherapy and yogatherapy can offer efficient treatments for climacteric symptoms, specially hot flashes, because their therapeutic mechanisms are similar to the physiological mechanism of hot flashes. MAIN OBJECTIVE: To analyze the psychological and physiological clinical outcomes of olfactory aromatherapy and breathing exercises of yogatherapy, associated or individually, on the quality of life, subjective stress levels and intensity and frequency of hot flashes in women in the climacteric period. METHODS: 85 women in the climacteric period were evaluated, 64 of these subjects participated in Phase 1 (assessment) and 34 participated in Phase 2 (treatment) . Data collection was performed at CEPE-USP. The study consists of a doubleblind, pragmatic clinical trial with restricted randomization, controlled by control and placebo groups. The intervention was based on the psychoneuroendocrineimmunological model. Treatments were performed with inhalation of an aromatherapeutic synergy developed for the study with or without yogatherapy breathing exercises for 12 weeks, twice per week in one hour sessions. The study was approved by the ethics comitte Comite de Etica em Pesquisa da Escola de Educacao Fisica e Esporte da Universidade de Sao Paulo and was registered in clinicaltrials.gov. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The results showed statistically significant improvement in symptoms of menopause for the three intervention groups. There was significant decrease in symptom of hot flashes, as well as complaints of hot flashes and this symptom was eliminated in five subjects. The intensity and frequency of hot flashes decreased in all intervention groups and remained constant in the control group. Aromatherapy was more effective than yogatherapy to decrease the symptoms of hot flashes, when these treatments were applied separately. The combination of the two therapies proved beneficial, increasing the effectiveness and enhancing the improvement of the symptom of hot flashes. The overall effects of the treatments varied intensely for other climacteric symptoms. The improvement of vasomotor symptoms of menopause (hot flashes and night sweats), was accompanied by a significant improvement in stress levels, quality of sleep and quality of life in all intervention groups. This research also permitted secondary discussions about climacterium and the therapies, permiting their understanding through the psychoneuroendocrineimmunological model. CONCLUSION: This study served as a general outline of climacteric symptoms, aromatherapy and yogatherapy through the psychoneuroendocrineimmunological model. The results cannot be generalized to the population because of the small sample size. However, the most promissing results can be indicated and this research can be the starting point for further studies, assisting in the preparation of clear research questions and suitable research methods to study them

Biocandle is a business model that seeks to reach the market demand of insect repellents. It is designed in the presentation of an aromatic candle that drives away insects and at the same time it provides aromatherapy properties which add value through the different essences used for its elaboration, and unlike other products, it is made with natural components that are not harmful to people's health. The problem we have found and therefore, motivated us to carry out this project is that many people have problems with insects, however, they do not find the perfect way to deal with them, since the alternatives that currently exist in the market are not pleasant for them due to the smell and toxicity in the case of repellent tablets or spray repellents and the texture when applied to the skin in the case of cream repellents. To understand the problem, we did an analysis to the market through interviews and in consequence, we were able to validate the interest in the product described above. Moreover, we applied different tools during the project such as SWOT, marketing and human resources, Finance and cost analysis with real data of the supplies needed for the elaboration and delivery cost, among others. / Trabajo de investigación

Mendoza Siancas, Cynthia Jeannette, Rojas Rueda, Manuel, Saavedra Alfaro, Flor Gisela 14 July 2020 (has links)
Many forms of fighting stress and respiratories diseases have been sought, many times they became chronic, up to the point of going to the hospital was necessary. Moreover, levels of stress and tension have been raised since many years ago, having as main causes, the economic situation, work, traffic and crime. Nowadays, we are living a health crisis, this has made that three out of then people show insomnia problems and other phycologic pathologies, as a consecuence of mandatory confinament. These ailments, have been showed in persons from different ages, whom are in the search of minimize and combat them. Therefore, after studyng the behavior of a certain market, we found that families feel that the cost of traditional medicine for fighting diseases is high, and many times it is not available or they do not know how to use it. Thus, they like to use alternate medicine, that allow them to fight stress and respiratory problems, in a natural way and complemented with pharmacological medicine. That is why we have created the therapeutic pillow project, with an aromatic pillow case that helps to prevent this kind of respiratory diseases, and at the same time helps fighting stress by relaxation. Implementing Aromatherapy for Falls Reduction in the Inpatient Hospice Population

Pistek, Kimberly Kay 01 January 2019 (has links)
Falls among the elderly is a health concern affecting multiple patients annually. Hospice patients and those with multiple comorbidities are at the greatest risk of falling and sustaining injuries from falls. Aromatherapy has been used for reducing multiple symptoms as well as for decreasing falls. The practice-focused question explored whether an education program on using aromatherapy for fall prevention would increase knowledge of this intervention for an interdisciplinary group of hospice staff. The design was developed using Knowles's theory of andragogy and Bloom's taxonomy. Thirteen staff members from the same facility participated in the education program. The program was targeted to educate staff who worked with hospice patients about implementing the intervention in their practice. The program was also offered facility-wide to allow all staff the opportunity to increase their knowledge in using the intervention in their fall- reduction programs. Assessment tools including pretest, posttest, and evaluations were completed by all program participants. Using a Likert scale to calculate participant responses, results revealed an increase in knowledge gained from 15% to 60%. The participants rated the program favorably with a mean score of 4.4 to 4.6 out of 5. This program would be beneficial to hospice caregivers and a broader range of staff members including nonhospice nurses, therapists, and providers who are interested in decreasing falls in their patient population. The program would also be of interest to accrediting bodies, hospice, palliative care, oncologic, and geriatric organizations for alternative fall-reduction interventions. Reducing falls will result in a positive social change by decreasing fall-related injuries costs and improving quality at end-of-life.
