Tillämpning av oskarp logik i GIS-baserad skredanalys : Cuenca del Arga i Navarra, Spanien

Palmkron, Katarina January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this study is to construct a model in GIS (geographical information system) for landslide susceptibility mapping for Cuenca del Arga in Navarre, Spain, to identify potential areas for landslides. The model is based on fuzzy logic approach and the parameters are overlaid with WLC (weighted linear combination).

Modélisation expérimentale de génération de tsunami par effondrement granulaire / Experimental modelling of tsunami generation by a granular collapse

Robbe-Saule, Manon 06 December 2019 (has links)
Various past geological events have shown that landslides near coastlines, involving volumes from a few thousand cubic meters to several cubic kilometers, can lead to tsunami waves with significant amplitude. The generated wave and the collapse both represent an important hazard for the population and infrastructure located on or near the coast. Realistic modeling requires considering the granular nature of landslides. Here, we developed a new set of small-scale laboratory experiments to investigate in detail the wave generated by the collapse of an aerial granular column into water. An entire set of parameters are tested: (1) the falling granular mass (height, volume, aspect ratio, grain size and density), (2) the water layer height and (3) the geometrical configuration (horizontal or inclined plane). From quasi-bidimensional experiments in a rectangular channel we record both the time evolution of the granular collapse and of the generated wave. We show that the wave generation process is driven by the collective dynamics of the granular collapse at the water free surface. We identify a clear linear dependence between the relative wave amplitude and a Froude number defined as the ratio of the granular front velocity and the solitary wave velocity. The wave amplitude reaches its maximum value at an intermediate water depth. The total energy transfer shows that only a few percent of the initial potential energy of the column is transferred to the wave, suggesting a considerable energy loss in the granular collapse itself. Finally, we highlight the low influence diameter and density of the falling grain in the generation of the wave. This suggests that the mass of the collapse is of low importance compared to its volume. Another interesting result is the linear dependence of the relative wave amplitude with the relative immersed volume of the final deposit. This allows us to estimate the wave amplitude generated by past or potential events in Nature. Despite the various scales and geometries of these natural events, and the uncertainty of the data, our empirical law, from our small-scale experiment, predicts waves similar to other numerical or experimental models.

Romilsson, Simon January 2020 (has links)
Historical maps have been utilized diligently in various circumstances by archaeologists and antiquarians alike with the ambition to expose past landscapes and recreate features of the past. However, there is a shortage of information regarding the usage of historical maps relating to the climate change adaption. This study examines whether information about climate risks in Swedish historical maps can be revealed and subsequently used as an aid in climate change adaptation. To answer this question a literature review pertaining to historical maps, GIS-adaptations and current climate data was conducted in combination with a GIS-analysis integrating rectified historical maps and modern climate data. The results show that the maps exhibit some potential regarding the climate adaption mainly in relation to inundations and erosion. However, with future examination of the reliability of individual maps and vectorization in conjunction with added accessibility of map contents more valuable knowledge can be quantified and retrieved.

Ontology-based discovery of time-series data sources for landslide early warning system

Phengsuwan, J., Shah, T., James, P., Thakker, Dhaval, Barr, S., Ranjan, R. 15 July 2019 (has links)
Yes / Modern early warning system (EWS) requires sophisticated knowledge of the natural hazards, the urban context and underlying risk factors to enable dynamic and timely decision making (e.g., hazard detection, hazard preparedness). Landslides are a common form of natural hazard with a global impact and closely linked to a variety of other hazards. EWS for landslides prediction and detection relies on scientific methods and models which requires input from the time series data, such as the earth observation (EO) and urban environment data. Such data sets are produced by a variety of remote sensing satellites and Internet of things sensors which are deployed in the landslide prone areas. To this end, the automatic discovery of potential time series data sources has become a challenge due to the complexity and high variety of data sources. To solve this hard research problem, in this paper, we propose a novel ontology, namely Landslip Ontology, to provide the knowledge base that establishes relationship between landslide hazard and EO and urban data sources. The purpose of Landslip Ontology is to facilitate time series data source discovery for the verification and prediction of landslide hazards. The ontology is evaluated based on scenarios and competency questions to verify the coverage and consistency. Moreover, the ontology can also be used to realize the implementation of data sources discovery system which is an essential component in EWS that needs to manage (store, search, process) rich information from heterogeneous data sources.

An ontology-based system for discovering landslide-induced emergencies in electrical grid

Phengsuwan, J., Shah, T., Sun, R., James, P., Thakker, Dhaval, Ranjan, R. 07 April 2020 (has links)
No / Early warning systems (EWS) for electrical grid infrastructure have played a significant role in the efficient management of electricity supply in natural hazard prone areas. Modern EWS rely on scientific methods to analyze a variety of Earth Observation and ancillary data provided by multiple and heterogeneous data sources for the monitoring of electrical grid infrastructure. Furthermore, through cooperation, EWS for natural hazards contribute to monitoring by reporting hazard events that are associated with a particular electrical grid network. Additionally, sophisticated domain knowledge of natural hazards and electrical grid is also required to enable dynamic and timely decision‐making about the management of electrical grid infrastructure in serious hazards. In this paper, we propose a data integration and analytics system that enables an interaction between natural hazard EWS and electrical grid EWS to contribute to electrical grid network monitoring and support decision‐making for electrical grid infrastructure management. We prototype the system using landslides as an example natural hazard for the grid infrastructure monitoring. Essentially, the system consists of background knowledge about landslides as well as information about data sources to facilitate the process of data integration and analysis. Using the knowledge modeled, the prototype system can report the occurrence of landslides and suggest potential data sources for the electrical grid network monitoring. / FloodPrep, Grant/Award Number: (NE/P017134/1); LandSlip, Grant/Award Number: (NE/P000681/1)

From Planning Process To Landslide : An analysis of the detailed planning process for the detailed development plan for part of the property Munkeröd 1:12 and others

Husbom, Matilda, Blomfeldt, Ingrid January 2024 (has links)
In the fall of 2023, a significant event occurred in the municipality of Stenungsund when large sections of the roadway on E6 collapsed due to a landslide. When planning, built environment should be situated on land suitable for the purpose, considering the risk of natural hazards such as flooding, landslides, and erosion. A part of the area affected by the landslide had already been zoned in a detailed development plan, making the detailed development plan for part of the property Munkeröd 1:12 and others of crucial importance for the investigation of the incident. This thesis aims to investigate the detailed planning process for the Detailed development plan for part of the property Munkeröd 1:12 and others. The purpose is also to review the municipality's planning work based on the former Planning and Building Act (1987:10) and to examine whether the planning work would have been different if the new Planning and Building Act (2010:900) had been applied. To achieve this, the thesis also aims to analyze the development of the planning process and evaluate how the changes in legislation have affected the process. Methodologically, the thesis includes a literature study focusing on the development of Swedish legislation regarding the planning process. This is reflected through the review of legal texts, reports, and preparatory works. Additionally, the work includes a document study where public records from the municipality of Stenungsund have been reviewed and summarized. The results indicate that the municipality of Stenungsund has handled the planning case correctly according to the former Planning and Building Act. The decision to follow this law was based on the fact that the planning work was initiated before May 2, 2010, when the new Planning and Building Act came into force. Despite the legislative changes, the planning process has not undergone significant changes, suggesting that a hypothetical planning case under the new law would likely not have resulted in a different outcome. The conclusion is that the specific legislation is not necessarily decisive; rather, it is the particular circumstances of each detailed plan that matter. Following the new Planning and Building Act would not have enabled the municipality of Stenungsund to prevent the landslide that occurred at the site several years later.

Les mouvements de terrain du vignoble champenois : approche géomorphologique et hydrologique / Landslides in Champagne vineyards : geomorphological and hydrological approach

Bollot, Nicolas 09 December 2014 (has links)
The numerous mass movements affecting the Champagne vineyards slopes cause expensive damages. However, triggering factors are still unknown. Using a multidisciplinary methodology, this research aims to understand the origin and the behavior of these instabilities. At a regional scale, two major groups are distinguished and show the importance of the geological structure on the geomorphological dynamics. Northwards, valleyside cambering of pre-Saalian age predominates. It took place during ana and/or cataglacial phase. Southwards, in the Marne valley and its tributaries area, 264 landslides, most of them dating from Tardiglacial period, are inventoried. At the watershed scale, areas with a high quantity of landslides correspond to the sectors of high hydrological yields. In return, the presence of landslides alters the spatial distribution of springs: deepest landslides constitute a semi-permeable cover leading to semi-confined aquifers. At the local scale, geophysical and piezometric investigations make it possible to model the hydrogeological relationship between superficial formations and substratum. It appears that landslides structure is heterogeneous, that the circulation of water is limited and slow in the landslide, and that the exchanges with substratum occur along the shear plan. Under these conditions, the influence of climatic factors on the current reactivations is both indirect and weak.
