Estações elevatórias = caracteríticas construtivas e geração de ruído / Pump stations : construction characteristics and noise generation

Oliveira, Bianca Lopes de 16 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Stelamaris Rolla Bertoli / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Civil, Arquitetura e Urbanismo / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-16T17:02:09Z (GMT). The pumping stations are responsible for pumping of treated water or sewage. These structures are essential for a system of water supply that does not have a position to have their supplies from a totally gravity system. The city of Jundiai (São Paulo - Brazil), basis for study, has 28 (twenty eight) pumping stations distributed throughout urban areas and may be responsible for environmental degradation through the noise, because the motor-pump these stations generate noise, sometimes, audible over long distances. Noise, depending on the level and duration, can result in psychological disorders or physiological changes associated with stress reactions, fatigue, irritability and poor concentration. This work had as main purpose to characterize the pumping stations about its constructive aspects of enclosure for the joint motors and pumps (noise sources). Measurements of sound pressure levels inside and outside the station, with the motors and pumps on and off, according to standard NBR 10151/2000 (ABNT), were did to obtain data showing sound insulation that pump station provided to noise generated by motor-pump. The different deployment configurations of building systems and arrangements of openings resulted in different acoustic performances, some attending the standards and not others. Therefore evaluated if their impacts on the surrounding sound and the station were drawn up some suggestions of strategies for mitigation of impacts / Mestrado / Arquitetura e Construção / Mestre em Engenharia Civil

Poluição sonora no município de São Paulo: avaliação do ruído e o impacto da exposição na saúde da população / Noise pollution in the city of São Paulo: noise assessment and the impact of exposure on population health

Karina Mary de Paiva Vianna 14 November 2014 (has links)
Introduction: Concerns regarding noise levels in the modern world have worsened due to the urbanization and industrialization processes, that have committed to urban acoustic quality because of the multiple noise sources. The impact of noise exposure on population health is still not clearly established. Strategies for standardizing measures for assessing urban noise, as well as the causal relationship between environmental exposure and health endpoints have been subjects of research. Objective: to evaluate the acoustical situation in the district of Pinheiros, São Paulo, and the impact of noise exposure on health in the resident population in the district. Methods: The study was conducted in two steps: (1) noise assessment in the district under study and noise mapping, using the software Predictor 8.11, in areas selected as exposed and non-exposed to road traffic noise; (2) assessment of the health effects of the resident population in the district, through a household survey. Statistical analyses using Chi Square Test and Multiple Logistic Regression were performed. Results: 75 points were evaluated, accounting for 20h of measurement. At all points, the noise levels exceeded the limits established by law. In exposed areas, the noise situation characterizes the existence of noise pollution. 225 interviews were conducted. We observed an association between living in exposed area and: perceiving the traffic noise and consider the place of residence a noisy environment; report annoyance due to this noise and when performing activities such as watching television, resting, talking and concentrate on performing tasks. A dose-response relationship between increasing degree of annoyance with road traffic noise and increased noise levels was observed. The factors associated with living in areas not exposed to traffic noise were annoyance with neighborhood noise and fair / poor sleep quality. Conclusion: This study represents a methodological advance in the measurement of urban noise, as it sought to produce reliable and comparable data on local and global level. The results regarding the effects on health of the population show the importance of reformulating the Brazilian public policies aiming to carry out actions towards the prevention, management and monitoring of noise in the urban space.

Fluglärmbelastung und Immobilien: Ergebnisse neuer Studien für Deutschland

Thießen, Friedrich 23 September 2013 (has links)
The development of several airports in Germany as well as the introduction of new flight routes is a strain on most citizens. The change in value of real estate property is widely acknowledged as the general quantitative indicator of the consequences of noise pollution and congestion. In recent years new research on the effects of noise pollution has signified a turning point. Internet portals such as the German Immobilienscout 24 made available new data sources for possible investigation. Evaluation of this data was carried out in four new studies. This paper presents the results of these data analyses. The most important findings are: Older literature findings can be confirmed regarding the NSDI (Noise Sensitivity Depreciation Index). Values of 0.7 to 1.2 can be verified. Flight routes provoke a depreciation in value of real estate. The impairment loss is roughly 100 Euro/m² of living area per kilometer distance to the nearest flight route center (3% of the real estate value). Such depreciation in value reacts to the intensity of the public discourse. Over- and undershooting effects have been found. The depreciation due to newly introduced flight routes is larger than the appreciation due to terminated old flight routes.

Noise Pollution/Reduction Education for Frontline Staff in the Acute Care Setting

Patel, Lopa 01 January 2019 (has links)
Noise levels in hospital settings have risen beyond the recommended range of 35-40 decibels, resulting in poor patient healing outcomes and other health conditions ranging from sleep deprivation, anxiety, agitation, delirium, depression, and high heart rate and blood pressure. These negative patient health experiences are evidenced by poor scores for the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, which are indicators of patients' perceptions of care. This project explored whether an educational activity for 48 direct care staff, who include registered nurses and nursing assistants, in a cardiac unit on the impact of noise pollution on patient healing would increase staff members' knowledge of interventions to reduce noise pollution. The information processing theory guided this project. Eighty-nine percent of the participants strongly agreed that the educational activity was relevant to their practice as health care providers on the cardiac monitored unit. All participants strongly agreed that they would be able to identify when the unit was noisy and when noise was impacting a patient both physiologically and psychologically. Participants indicated that they could implement the suggested behavioral modifications to promote a healing environment. Participants strongly agreed that the speaker was effective in communicating the importance of noise pollution and its impact on patient healing and ways in which to combat the problem (89%), and they were generally satisfied with the learning activity (91%). Reducing noise pollution might create a healing environment for cardiac patients, thus positively impacting patient satisfaction and well-being.

Sustainable Urban transport to meet SDG 11.2 & combat climate change : Increasing active transport in Sundbyberg city

Muse, Mohamed Abdi January 2023 (has links)
Aim: The aim of this degree project is to investigate the current condition of sustainable infrastructure in Sundbyberg City and how the city can encourage and increase active transport. Method: The methods used are interviews with politicians and a transport expert within the city of Sundbyberg as primary data collection. The other methods are secondary survey data provided by Sundbyberg City that provides the transport modes of the participants of the city in late 2022 and the third method is a site visit to the city center where many different modes of transport interact daily. Results: The findings indicate that the city is in need of improving the infrastructure for active transport. The usage of cars increased in the city since 2019 and this could possibly be due to the coronavirus pandemic that forced people to isolate and take their cars. Gender plays also a role in the choice of transport as more women tend to drive in Sundbyberg and walk less. Studies indicate a safer and better active infrastructure could encourage women to turn to active transport. The positive findings are that the interviews have shed light on new setts of policies that will help reduce the usage of cars and increase active transport. In particular, during the summer of 2023, two famous streets will be closed to cars and only walking and cycling will be allowed. Furthermore, many parking spaces will be turned into parks to reduce the usage of cars and encourage people to turn to more sustainable modes of transport. Conclusion: Sundbyberg city needs to improve the infrastructure for active transport by building wider lanes, separated from cars and if possible colored to highlight it for the users because that could have a positive impact on the residents and most likely encourage many to start walking and cycling. The importance of increase in active transport is improvement in the health of the public while also reduce the usage of cars. The politician and the transport experts in the city seem to be aware of the importance of better infrastructure for active transport and the importance of reducing the usage of cars as that will reduce emissions and air pollution. However, the cost seems to be a crucial factor that stands in the way of many projects. On the other hand, new policies such as closing streets from car traffic, removing parking spaces with green areas, and encouraging people to cycle even during the winter by providing salted and maintained lanes might prove to be equally important to better infrastructure and increase the city’s goal of becoming a more sustainable transport city.

La mobilité contextuelle à l’épreuve de la mobilité résidentielle contrainte : dans le cadre de la rénovation urbaine des quartiers d’habitat social à Angers et à Trélazé / Contextual mobility proof against restricted residential mobility in residential neighborhoods of the National Agency for Urban Renewal (Agence Nationale de Rénovation Urbaine - ANRU) in Angers and Trélazé (France)

Buchot, Nathalie 07 December 2012 (has links)
Living in one place also implies mobility. This hypothesis was developed over 15 years’experience accompanying the underprivileged in housing issues and lies at the basis ofthe present study, which examines the effects, obstacles and levers involved in restrictedresidential mobility in residential neighborhoods of the National Agency for Urban Renewal(Agence Nationale de Rénovation Urbaine – ANRU) in Angers and Trélazé (France). Lookingat our results in the light of contextual mobility, the close relationship between man andnature becomes apparent. Indeed, the cognitive process connecting mobility and residencecan only take place within a reassuring and calming environment. On the other hand, livingin degraded, depreciated social housing clearly hinders this process. The present study onforced relocation thus demonstrates the need for combining urban planning, social andenvironmental approaches in policymaking.

Invisible Aesthetics of Noise

Mijouin, Lola January 2019 (has links)
Sound in our human world is broken down into two general types : desirable and undesirable. Unwanted sounds in our lives, that we also call “noises”, induce diverse kinds of physical and psychological reactions, many of them unhealthy. As humans living in the Anthropocene, we bring noise with us everywhere we go, creating soundscapes of random sources that we either enjoy or find annoying, while masking more aesthetically resonant sounds. As our modern society is moving faster, the urban soundscape becoming noisier, and our attention taken by technology, we forget to pay attention to our surrounding world. By questioning noise and collaborating with it, this present work aims to give other qualities, sonorities and colors to sound, to change our perception of noise pollution within an urban acoustic context. How does our perception of noise impact our behaviors ? Our social and spatial interactions and our attention towards our surrounding environment ?  Could we find oher qualities that used to be invisible if we would approach the world with our sense of hearing ?

Yet, was from the Industrial Revolution that noise pollution took unimaginable proportions, becoming a problem of public health. Besides the auditory effects, man suffers from extra-auditory effects produced by noise, which don t lead him do deafness, but cause injuries in health. Noise is not only a nuisance but a kind of pollution, according to the National Environmental Policy Act, because is an acoustic energy. We will examine how national legislation, besides the experience of America and the European Community, deals with noise pollution, in federal, state a local level. Also will examine the competence of each federation member, the National Environmental Policy, regulations of the Nationals Environmental Counsel CONAMA, the urban policy laws and its main instruments, reviewing some state a local laws. Follows a study of the main sources of noise pollution, non-stationary and stationary sources: vehicles, airplanes, bars and restaurants, industries and religious services. Finally, the roll of the Public Power, Public Attorneys and Society in the effectiveness of the Environment protection / Os sons e ruído acompanham a humanidade desde o começo.

The role of expectations and visions of the future in the development of target-based environmental policies : the case of the UK Air Quality Strategy

McKean, Vanessa January 2015 (has links)
Increasingly, policy-makers rely on forecasts to set targets for environmental and health protection. I examine the UK Air Quality Strategies (AQS) for particulate matter (1997-2007). Here policy-makers select and articulate visions for technological and policy developments in order to set targets and policies to achieve them. Despite growing evidence for adverse health effects of particulates, challenging targets in 1997 were followed by two revisions of Objectives without introducing measures for reducing pollution. In 2007 more challenging targets were resumed. This thesis is a study of the formation and evolution of a policy framework: of the interactions and contrasting roles of scientific expertise, wider political discourse, and the ‘futures' presented by actors involved in the policy process. Sociology of Expectations has previously examined the roles of visions in innovation processes. I extended this framework to examine dynamics of visions in the policy-making process. My findings were based on analysis of visions and discourses identified in texts, model data, and interviews. Whilst none of the explanatory factors alone accounted the developments in the AQS, together they provide an explanation of change which highlights the role of learning by policy-makers . Visions for technological development articulated in each version of the AQS were in line with the dominant visions articulated in central government, but over time policy-makers responsible for the Strategy used them to present options for taking action on pollution. Co-construction of the AQS and modelled forecasts enabled policy-makers responsible for the Strategy to articulate visions for technologies and policies to promote taking action to reduce pollutants, and this led to the more action-oriented Strategy in 2007. This thesis proposes that visions can change more quickly than wider political discourses, and as such can provide opportunities for the introduction of new discourses.

Investigation Of Emissions And Combustion Kinetics Of Waste Wood Samples With Thermal And Spectral Methods

Yurdakul Yorulmaz, Sema 01 September 2006 (has links) (PDF)
The mechanisms and kinetics of combustion of waste wood as well as the phases during combustion processes are important to eliminate these wastes without any possible damage to environment. In the present study, combustion mechanisms, activation energy and pre-exponential constants, and phases of combustion were investigated for untreated natural pine and treated Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), plywood and particleboard samples that involve some chemicals and additives. Waste wood samples were heated in air at 10, 20 and 30oC/min heating rates in a Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) from room temperature to 900oC. Thermogravimetry (TG) and Derivative Thermogravimetry (DTG) curves for all samples were obtained. The gases formed during combustion reactions were directly fed to a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) instrument coupled to TGA. Emission characteristics of the samples were determined in-situ by using the FTIR spectrums. As a result of TG analysis, thermal decomposition of treated samples was observed at lower temperatures as compared to the untreated pine sample because of the catalyzing effects of the chemicals in the treated samples. Therefore, there were less flammable products, lower weight losses in the main oxidation region, decrease in the max. weight loss temperatures and formation of more char for treated samples as compared to untreated pine sample. In other words, chemicals used during production of these samples lead to decrease in the combustibility of the treated samples. Thermal kinetic constants for the samples were calculated by using Coats Redfern and Broido Methods. In order to find out the mechanisms responsible for the oxidation of the waste wood samples in different regions, six solid state mechanisms of Coats Redfern Method were tested. As a result of FTIR analysis of the emitted gases from TG analysis, several chemical groups were detected from pine and treated samples. Combustion of all samples revealed some gases containing aromatics, C-H groups, CO2 and CO. However, there were some toxic and carcinogenic gases like formaldehyde, isocyanate group, ammonia, phenyl group and benzoylbromide among the emissions of treated samples which need utmost attention when recovering energy from treated waste woods.
