Lapinskaitė, Monika 25 January 2010 (has links)
Master’s thesis spatial composition ” Memory code” aims to encourage the viewer think about the book’s as one of the most significant cultural heritage of mankind multiple meaning. Stepanavičiūtė, Lina 25 January 2010 (has links)
The final thesis ”De javu Africa” analyses aesthetical background and semantics of traditional applied art of Africa. Between co-operation and confrontation: the Government-NGO relationship in Japan’s Official Development Assistance

Mashiko, Moe 20 December 2012 (has links)
This thesis examines the relationship between the Japanese government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) involved in Official Development Assistance (ODA). Japanese NGOs are too easily co-opted into the mechanisms of state power, sometimes putting at risk the very objectives that ODA is meant to embody. Against this prevailing trend; however, some NGOs have rallied to resist and transform undemocratic ODA policies and practices, and challenge Japan’s traditional bureaucratic politics. Gramsci’s theory of state and civil society, which treats civil society as a field of contention between hegemony and counter-hegemony, provides a useful frame of reference to understand the contradictory role of Japanese NGOs. / Graduate

The migration-development nexus: Evidence from the Philippines

Hurajová, Lucia January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis is aimed to investigate both theoretically and empirically the impact of migration on the development of the sending countries. It applies the "Three Rs" approach to examine how migrants can shape development reshape in their areas of origin via 3Rs: Recruitment, Remittances, and Return. Emphasis is put on remittances, the most visible aspect of international migration. In particular, regression analysis were carried out, using time series data over the period 1990-2014, to establish a relationship between remittances and development aspects such as economic and human development as well as comparing them with the effect of FDI and ODA. The findings indicate that migration through remittances play an influential role in the Philippines development but it comes at a price, too.

Is there a trade-off between poverty reduction and climate action? : A glance at the determinants of official development assistance in environmentally relevant sectors

Karlsson, Nora January 2021 (has links)
In a time where environmental issues are increasingly important and measures are being taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve biodiversity, aid that targets sectors relevant for these issues are important to examine. The world is simultaneously taking measures needed to increase economic development around the world, by allocating aid to developing countries. The potential conflict between these two goals, in regard to aid, is that the prerequisites of green development include education and human capital which poorer nations may lack. Hence, there could be a potential trade-off between climate action and poverty reduction in the allocation of official development assistance. By utilizing panel data over countries that receive ODA from 2012-2018 I use an OLS method to estimate the determinants of green aid and other aid, respectively. The study shows that green ODA is notallocated to wealthier countries than other ODA, if anything green ODA is allocated to countries with lower GDP per capita. In addition, the results from this study show that a country's education rate is positively correlated with green ODA. Furthermore, the study suggests that good governance is more important for green aid, than aid in other sectors.

Geografické aspekty vývoje oficiální rozvojové spolupráce: globální a národní úroveň / Geographical aspects of the Official Development Assistance: Global and National Level

Chárová, Lenka January 2010 (has links)
This dissertation deals with the Official Development Assistance. The purpose of this dissertation was, first of all, to find out whether the target aid is focused on the poorest countries of the world. The theoretical part concentrates primarily on the institutional history of the Official Development Assistance and also on the development of mainstream theories which influenced it to the highest degree. In the analytical part the dissertation draws particularly from the database of the Development Assistance Committee under the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. From the global point of view, the dissertation is focused especially on the quantitative analysis of the changes in the allocation of the Official Development Assistance in the period from 1989 to 2008. From the geographical point of view, the spatio-temporal change in territorial priorities of important bilateral and multilateral donors and also the dependence of their expenditure on the socio-economic maturity of aid beneficiaries was analysed. The ability to clearly define the territorial priorities and on their basis to effectively target the development assistance is in national context analysed on the example of the Czech Republic. From the local point of view, the dissertation gives a brief description of the...

Pålsson, Jonas, Ekblom, Johanna January 2009 (has links)

This paper discusses whether the allocation of Swedish aid is dependent on absolute or relative poverty, and whether there is any difference in this respect between ODA and aid distributed through officially funded NGO’s. Given the Millennium Development Goals, and their overarching goal of halving extreme poverty by 2015, we should expect the aid allocation to be determined by absolute rather than relative poverty. We use OLS to estimate multiple linear regressions. We find that Swedish ODA has an absolute poverty focus, while the Swedish NGO aid rather seems to be concentrated on relative poverty.
