The present thesis intends to investigate the articulations that constitute the formation of tattoo artists and practice of the tattoo. The research follows the trajectory of three tattoo artists in Juiz de Fora; Breno, Lígia and Sebá; approaching the relationships they weave between themselves and with other tattoo artists, as well as the procedural constitution of their preferences and experiences as a central element of training and specialization of these professionals. On the relationship between tattooists emphasizes, more than a relationship between master apprentice, the influence of "ethical" aspects at the field of tattooing that guide the positioning of (various) tattoo artists in the contemporary world. The research also brings some discussions about the tattoo as a possible form of artistic expression and the presuppositions and consequences on this question, considering the historical moment of the practice; besides exploring reflections that contextualize the theoretical-practical perspectives on the importance of the "creativity" as element and central value in the day-to-day of these tattoo artists, highlighting this factor not as exponent of a romantic genius and inherent in the "nature" of the subjects, but as an expression of a collectivized work with other tattoo artists and clients, along with constant training. The research is based on a developed ethnography in studios and events with the participation of these tattoo artists, highlighting in practice the elements articulated and mobilized in the making of the tattoo, which they put in relation clients, materials, machinery, paints, perspectives and trajectories throughout the process.

Trajetórias desviantes = implicações estéticas e políticas na dança da Cia Borelli e do Núcleo Artístico Vera Sala / Deviants trajectories : aesthetics and politics implications in the dance of the Cia Borelli and of the Núcleo Artístico Vera Sala

Figueiredo, Valeska Marlete Guimarães 20 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Marília Vieira Soares / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-20T08:03:41Z (GMT). As ficções, invisibilidades, latências e lacunas podem, assim, penetrar a vida ordinária, dessa maneira, desestabilizando certas ordenações / Abstract: This thesis seeks to understand how in a dance the notion of body and spatial arrangement of the scene expose a political stance, as well as build a world view. The dance is not separated from social, economic and political spheres, as it constitutes and is constituted by them. These issues were researched in the artistic trajectories of Sandro Borelli, director and resident choreographer of the Borelli Dance Company, and Vera Sala, director and creator-interpreter of the Vera Sala Artistic Group. We highlight some of their creations, understood as relevant in the construction of certain aspects of their thoughts on dance. Their aesthetic and political perspectives are very different, but they seem to have a common interest for questioning certain dominant standards and normative orders. The particularities of each artist's work demanded a specific theoretical place to discuss each trajectory. We examined the guiding principles of their research of the body, the arrangement of bodies in space of the scene and the modes of relationship between them, their creative procedures, their organization and creation as a group. Investigating these works, we found that their creations propose a way of perceiving and acting in the world. Aesthetic and political implications of art were analyzed and discussed, along with a range of thinkers, coming to the proposition that for art to be critical, it needs to create dissent, and for it to be ethical, it needs to increase the power of action and/or inaction of a collectivity. One has to make the instigating inquietude of the creative process a way of life, building it bodily through the transit between daily and extra-daily techniques. The artistic resistance to current schemes of control and exploitation takes place through leaks in the creative processes. Fictions, invisibilities, latencies and gaps can thus penetrate ordinary life, destabilizing certain offenses / Doutorado / Artes Cenicas / Doutor em Artes

The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the development and maturation of the Imperial State and its foreign policy in the mid-nineteenth century, particularly in regard to the diplomatic incident known as the Crhistie Affair. We entend, therefore, to reflect on and discuss the limits and improvements of the Brazilian foreign policy, and to compare Brazil’s and England’s versions of the incident. In addition, we intend to investigate João Batista Calógeras trajectory, a government employee who worked for 15 years in the Ministry and took part in some political negotiations between Brazil and England, and as a result, to promote a new way to comprehend the imperial bureaucracy in the State’s business. All in all, we aim to demonstrate that the aggressiveness in the English diplomacy against the slave trade combined with a defensive and independent policy of the Imperial government was the fundamental cause of the rupture between the countries.

Anomaly detection in trajectory data for surveillance applications

Laxhammar, Rikard January 2011 (has links)
Abnormal behaviour may indicate important objects and events in a wide variety of domains. One such domain is intelligence and surveillance, where there is a clear trend towards more and more advanced sensor systems producing huge amounts of trajectory data from moving objects, such as people, vehicles, vessels and aircraft. In the maritime domain, for example, abnormal vessel behaviour, such as unexpected stops, deviations from standard routes, speeding, traffic direction violations etc., may indicate threats and dangers related to smuggling, sea drunkenness, collisions, grounding, hijacking, piracy etc. Timely detection of these relatively infrequent events, which is critical for enabling proactive measures, requires constant analysis of all trajectories; this is typically a great challenge to human analysts due to information overload, fatigue and inattention. In the Baltic Sea, for example, there are typically 3000–4000 commercial vessels present that are monitored by only a few human analysts. Thus, there is a need for automated detection of abnormal trajectory patterns. In this thesis, we investigate algorithms appropriate for automated detection of anomalous trajectories in surveillance applications. We identify and discuss some key theoretical properties of such algorithms, which have not been fully addressed in previous work: sequential anomaly detection in incomplete trajectories, continuous learning based on new data requiring no or limited human feedback, a minimum of parameters and a low and well-calibrated false alarm rate. A number of algorithms based on statistical methods and nearest neighbour methods are proposed that address some or all of these key properties. In particular, a novel algorithm known as the Similarity-based Nearest Neighbour Conformal Anomaly Detector (SNN-CAD) is proposed. This algorithm is based on the theory of Conformal prediction and is unique in the sense that it addresses all of the key properties above. The proposed algorithms are evaluated on real world trajectory data sets, including vessel traffic data, which have been complemented with simulated anomalous data. The experiments demonstrate the type of anomalous behaviour that can be detected at a low overall alarm rate. Quantitative results for learning and classification performance of the algorithms are compared. In particular, results from reproduced experiments on public data sets show that SNN-CAD, combined with Hausdorff distance  for measuring dissimilarity between trajectories, achieves excellent classification performance without any parameter tuning. It is concluded that SNN-CAD, due to its general and parameter-light design, is applicable in virtually any anomaly detection application. Directions for future work include investigating sensitivity to noisy data, and investigating long-term learning strategies, which address issues related to changing behaviour patterns and increasing size and complexity of training data.

The elusive professionnalisation of political counsel : a study of prime ministerial advisers in democratised Poland (1989-2014) / L'introuvable professionnalisation du conseil politique : étude des conseillers du Premier ministre dans la Pologne démocratique (1989-2014)

Fliflet, Anna 06 October 2017 (has links)
The theme of advisers is virtually absent from analyses of the Polish political system, although the presence of these selected and non-elected actors in the configuration of governance adds to the complexity of questions of legitimacy and representation. This thesis aims to fill the gap by exploring the institutional affiliation, sociodemographic features, careers and roles of advisers to the prime ministers of Poland active between 1989 and 2014. It also suggests a reframing of the question of political counsel by embedding it in the context of delimitation of fields and professions. The analysis is oriented by the concepts of professionalisation, trajectory and boundary work, and it relies on a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The results indicate that the institutionalisation of informality within advisory units, the irregularities in professional trajectories and the liquidity of the role shaped by changing preferences blur the boundaries between advisers and other categories of actors. At the same time, the consolidation of political cabinets in the institutional landscape, the convergences in advisers’ profiles, the adaptability of their role, and their self-identification as advisers suggest that multiple components of professionalisation are present. Political counsel appears thus as a set of diversified practices positioned in a variety of ways on the axes of the formal versus the informal, trust and expertise, science and politics, whose contradictory nature is also discussed and contested in this work.

Variability of score and golf ball trajectory in elite golfers

James, Parker January 2013 (has links)
Abstract Introduction: Ball trajectory in the golf swing is an important outcome variable for golf performance, however, no direct investigation of ball flight trajectory variability for pre-elite players has been conducted. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine correlations between average score and ball trajectory variability (for carry and lateral displacement) on pre-elite golfers both at and between two different clubs.  Methods: Sixteen pre-elite/elite golfers were included in the study, 11 men and 5 women with a mean age of 22 ±2 (SD). An actual average (mean) score was calculated for each player’s first ten competition rounds. Subjects were then instructed to hit 5 balls, with focus on consistency, with their seven iron and then hit 5 balls approximately 70 metres with their preferred wedge. Ball trajectory variables were recorded using a Flightscope® Kudo Doppler radar launch monitor system (EDH South Africa (PTY) Ltd). Statistical calculation of averages, standard deviation (SD), normalised root-mean, coefficient of variance, performance error index (PEI= and Pearson’s correlation. Results: The results from the present study showed there was no significant correlation between average score (76.2 ±1.9) and variability of ball trajectory, for the seven iron or wedge. Results also showed average seven iron CV for carry and lateral PEIdisplacement was 5% and 3% respectively, whilst average wedge carry CV for carry and lateral PEIdisplacement was 9% and 2% respectively.  Carry CV and Lateral CV PEI were moderately correlated (r=0.61, p=0.012) with each other for the wedge. Conclusion: : Our findings show no correlation between shot variability and golf score, however we found weak correlation between carry and lateral variability for the wedge. In order for effective coaching more understanding into the importance of biomechanical variability and golf performance is required, further research is needed to better understand the implication of our findings

AS CONCEPÇÕES DA FORMAÇÃO PROFISSIONAL DA LICENCIATURA EM EDUCAÇÃO FÍSICA: TRAJETÓRIAS DOCENTES E SUAS PERSPECTIVAS CONTRIBUTIVAS / THE CONCEPTION OF PROFESSIONAL FORMATION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION GRADUATE: TRAJECTORIES TEACHING AND THEIR PERSPECTIVE CONTRIBUTION

Krüger, Leonardo Germano 27 April 2007 (has links)
This abstract of research is included in the line of research Formation, Knowledge and professional development (PPGE/CE/UFSM). The objective of this investigation was to understand the teaching of conception of new Physical Education Graduate of the CEFD/UFSM go away instruction trajectory of teachers involved in the construction process and introduce of the politician-pedagogical project and course reorganization of the year of 2004 (CEIPPP/RC). The methodology characterized as qualitative of the type case study. They had participated of the representative inquiry four teacher-personage of the CEIPPP/RC, which, through the verbal narrative had carried through its stories. Beyond the narratives it was possible to have access to the politician-pedagogical project and of Acts registered during the meeting of the CEIPPP/RC. For the analysis of the information it searched identification of the thematic focus through the technique of the gradual reduction of the text. In this direction, the narratives had assumed a biographical character of as the professors if they show when they speak of itself, of the profession and the context, what it allowed to seat the formation and its conceptions in its trajectory of life. The categories constructed from the narrative of the professor-personage express its conceptions, which if identify with the holistic and ecological vision that praises the politician-pedagogical project: the awareness in assuming the construction of an interlaced educative project with the agreement of that the with regard to process is capable to produce changes from new learnings, which had been perceived as reflected of the proper performance of itself during the process of construction of the PPP and the curricular reorganization. Thus, it was important to observe as the distinct moments practice for the professor-personage in its formative trajectory had influenced them in the construction of its conceptions, having been considered, therefore, as personage of our inquiry because they had been citizens of proper history that had counted / Este epítome refere-se à investigação inserida na Linha de Pesquisa Formação Saberes e Desenvolvimento Profissional (PPGE/CE/UFSM).

Silva, Matheus Luís da 24 April 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This master thesis Trajectory and political action of Antônio de Souza Netto was developed in the Research Line Integration, Politics and Frontier , in the History Master s Degree in the Graduate School Program at Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, supported by CAPES/DS. The purpose of this master thesis was to investigate the trajectory and political action of the General Farroupilha Antônio de Souza Netto, mainly in the period after the Farroupilha Revolution (1835 1845). The general who proclaimed the Riograndense Republic was included in other conflicts in the La Plata Region and who served in these conflicts in accordance with the interests of the Empire. However, a part of the historiography argued in recente years that the Empire was forced to interfere in the region, in favor of the Brazilians who lived on the frontier of Rio Grande do Sul or beyond, to avoid a new attempt to separate the Province. In this sense, we demonstrate the political trajectory of Netto, a brazilian militar who lived in Uruguay. We seek to investigate the arguments used by the General to convince the Empire to answer the the demands of the Brazilians living in the Frontier. We did this work based in the political history and using as sources the newspapers, correspondences, Empire ministries reports, militar documentation, bibliographic, among others. The result of this research and crosschecking revealed an individual who has established strong relationships with various sectors of Imperial policy, with friends in the Parish and Court , solid built friendships and publicly defended. In this sense, we identified that the war, the land and the frontier are the foundation of his power and influence in the politics in the Empire in mid-nineteenth century, more precisely between the years 1845 to 1866, the year when the General Netto dies in the Paraguay War.

A top-down approach for creating and implementing data mining solutions

Laurinen, P. (Perttu) 13 June 2006 (has links)
Abstract The information age is characterized by ever-growing amounts of data surrounding us. By reproducing this data into usable knowledge we can start moving toward the knowledge age. Data mining is the science of transforming measurable information into usable knowledge. During the data mining process, the measurements pass through a chain of sophisticated transformations in order to acquire knowledge. Furthermore, in some applications the results are implemented as software solutions so that they can be continuously utilized. It is evident that the quality and amount of the knowledge formed is highly dependent on the transformations and the process applied. This thesis presents an application independent concept that can be used for managing the data mining process and implementing the acquired results as software applications. The developed concept is divided into two parts – solution formation and solution implementation. The first part presents a systematic way for finding a data mining solution from a set of measurement data. The developed approach allows for easier application of a variety of algorithms to the data, manages the work chain, and differentiates between the data mining tasks. The method is based on storage of the data between the main stages of the data mining process, where the different stages of the process are defined on the basis of the type of algorithms applied to the data. The efficiency of the process is demonstrated with a case study presenting new solutions for resistance spot welding quality control. The second part of the concept presents a component-based data mining application framework, called Smart Archive, designed for implementing the solution. The framework provides functionality that is common to most data mining applications and is especially suitable for implementing applications that process continuously acquired measurements. The work also proposes an efficient algorithm for utilizing cumulative measurement data in the history component of the framework. Using the framework, it is possible to build high-quality data mining applications with shorter development times by configuring the framework to process application-specific data. The efficiency of the framework is illustrated using a case study presenting the results and implementation principles of an application developed for predicting steel slab temperatures in a hot strip mill. In conclusion, this thesis presents a concept that proposes solutions for two fundamental issues of data mining, the creation of a working data mining solution from a set of measurement data and the implementation of it as a stand-alone application.
