[pt] ENSAIOS EM ECONOMETRIA / [en] ESSAYS IN ECONOMETRICSPRISCILLA BURITY 12 August 2020 (has links)
[en] This work consists of four chapters and is divided into two distinct parts. The first is related to models of the term structure estimated for countries whose sovereign bonds are considered defaultable. The second part is about growth and convergence. In the first article of the first part, we used a no- arbitrage term structure model and chose three eurozone countries for this analysis: Spain, Greece and Italy. We noted that the country s debt has played an important role in the recent expansion of spreads, especially for Greece and Italy. For Spain, the recent increase in spreads has been driven primarily by variables related to Germany (Germany s debt is the most important among them), and market stress (represented by a highyield index). In the second article of the first part, we use a no-arbitrage model to investigate the determinants of the term structure of sovereign spreads and the expectations of the exchange rate in Brazil. Our exercises suggest that factors related to the Brazilian economy had a positive contribution to the 1999-2006 spreads and, in most of the period, factors related to the U.S. economy had a negative contribution. Since late 2007, this scenario has inverted. Furthermore, we present evidence that the improvement in our external solvency indicator along with the improved inflation scenario are the main responsible for the reduction of spreads from the middle of 2007 on. The first article of the second part proposes a semi-parametric approach to control unobserved heterogeneity in linear regression models. We use extreme neurotic networks estimators and the model is illustrated in an application to the convergence of per capita income across Brazilian municipalities. Finally, in the second article of the second part, we explore recent developments on industrial productivity convergence. We find that productivity growth is negatively related to initial productivity, but that countries with worse institutions have lower level of
productivity in equilibrium. The rate of productivity growth also has a nonmonotonic relationship with trade openness and education, being faster at the extremes.

[pt] INFORMALIDADE E CONSUMO DE BENS FORMAIS / [en] INFORMALITY AND CONSUMPTION OF FORMAL GOODSJONAS GOUVEIA DE AZEVEDO MAIA 04 July 2022 (has links)
capital, maior capacidade fiscalizadora do estado, e maiores níveis educacionais)
[en] As economies develop and grow, their informal sector shrinks. The
literature emphasizes a number of supply-side causes (higher costs of informality
for larger and capital-intensive firms, improved state enforcement capacity,
higher levels of education) to explain this phenomenon. This thesis contributes to
the debate by proposing a new, demand-side explanation. We argue that the rise
in formality can be explained, in part, by a rise in demand for formal goods and
services from households whose income is growing. Using Brazilian household
expenditure survey data, we document that in the cross-section, higher-earning
households consume a larger fraction of formal goods (7 percentage points as
income doubles). We also show that, over time, formal consumption increases
together with income. We attempt to provide a causal estimate by analysing
exogenous increases in the minimum wage. Last, we propose a theoretical
discussion on the type of preferences consistent with this observed behavior.

[pt] AVALIAÇÃO DE PRECURSORES PARA CRESCIMENTO DE GAINNAS PELA TÉCNICA MOVPE PARA FABRICAÇÃO DE CÉLULAS SOLARES / [en] PRECURSORS EVALUATION FOR GAINNAS GROWTH BY MOVPE TECHNIQUE FOR SOLAR CELLS PRODUCTIONJOSE EDUARDO RUIZ ROSERO 24 September 2020 (has links)
[en] A detailed investigation the GaInNAs growth by metalorganc vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) is performed in order to reduce the carbon background in the material. For this, the precursors , as well as the different growth parameters influence on crystal morphology, carbon background and the incorporation of different elements on the semiconductor material, are investigated. The temperature, the growth rate, the As/III ratio, the nitrogen content, and the different precursors were varied from one sample to another. Particularly, since some precursors were never used for this semiconductor material, initially, only GaAs was examined, later the GaInAs and the GaNAs ternary materials were grown, to finally obtain the GaInNAs. The samples characterization was used to assess materials quality, as well as the carbon background incorporation. Different characterization techniques such as High-Resolution X-Ray Diffraction (HR-XRD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Electrochemical Capacitance-Voltage (ECV) and In-Situ measurements were used to evaluate the effect of the epitaxial growth parameters on the quality of the obtained structures, as well as on the different elements incorporation in the semiconductor material. GaInNAs was successfully grown in the MOVPE reactor with particular precursors combinations. The relation between the high carbon level and the nitrogen amount in the crystal was confirmed, as well as the fact that carbon is supplied by methyl-groups of the precursors, especially TMGa, followed by TMIn. All measures to reduce carbon background incorporation were successful. The use of methyl group free III precursors significantly reduces the carbon background incorporation. Finally, solar cells were grown to evaluate the material in the device.

[en] CURRENT SITUATION AND DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS OF PLANNING AREA 3 OF RIO DE JANEIRO CITY / [pt] SITUAÇÃO ATUAL E PERSPECTIVAS DE DESENVOLVIMENTO DA ÁREA DE PLANEJAMENTO 3 DA CIDADE DO RIO DE JANEIRORAFAEL FERNANDES DOS SANTOS 05 August 2013 (has links)
[en] Rio de Janeiro has had a fragmented model of expansion, where many new
regions occupied not have transportation and sanitation infrastructure, and old
areas, structured, tend to be disparaged and stigmatized as places of low social
value. The effects on the city is catastrophic, affecting the routine of all the
population and hindering the control of the territory by the government.
While there were new areas to grow, the city took advantage of that. Many
neighborhoods were born, evolved and died, while new spaces were created and
encouraged. Came to Barra da Tijuca, the greatest example of how Rio de Janeiro
has expanded to meet the desires of a particular group in search of a safe and
elitist environment. Condos upper middle class were built and attracted people
from all over the city and, in parallel, its sewage was dumped in the lagoons of the
neighborhood.
While a new Rio grew, much of the city was deteriorating, especially
downtown and North Zone. In the central region, the idea of transferring
downtown to Barra da Tijuca gained strength, with large companies moving into
this new neighborhood. Modern buildings, wide open spaces and parking were the
main differences between the two regions. In the residential aspect, concern for
downtown was virtually nil.
In the North Zone, with the increase of slums and violence, traditional
neighborhoods were no longer the focus of the middle class carioca, with
stagnating real estate investments over time and making the region passed by a
process of forgetting his relevance within the context of the city, having his image
associated with violence and crime. In areas called suburbian, the situation was even worse. The old industries have moved to other cities due to the daily
violence of those neighborhoods, highlighting Benfica, Bonsucesso, Ramos and
Penha, suffering a massive stagnation over the past decades. Associated with
urban problems, prejudice was responsable for the not occupation of a large space
in the city, well structured and located.
But none of this was seen as a problem, but as a solution, because in Rio
there were still many areas to grow and receive new residents, not being
interesting recover and encourage the occupation of what had actually structure to
receive new ventures. The thought of rejection of old areas and interest in new
lasted nearly three decades and, as a consequence of this neglect, we have seen
emerge an ancient and undervalued city and another one new and prosperous,
resulting in a decentralized Rio and full of empty urban, increasingly dependent of
transport, sanitation and opening new routes, generating costs for the entire
population.
Analyzing the urban area in Rio, in North Zone, we can see how there is a
waste of urbanized areas, where there is a structured urban space, with
transportation and sanitation system established, but underutilized and virtually
without good projects being introduced. In certain parts of West Zone,
investments are numerous, without a previous and efficient infrastructure that can
receive all these investments. This is a contradiction.
Currently known as Planning Area 3 (AP 3), a huge and discredited region
in North Zone is in a strategic location, but is stigmatized by the media and
society with pejorative concepts of class, who treats it like a suburb, but the
application of that name ends up being contradictory, because, in Rio de Janeiro,
this concept is associated with an etymology and not with a urban fact. There are
in AP 3 urbanized neighborhoods and near downtown, but they are viewed
negatively, often caused by so-called opinion leaders.
AP 3 is the gateway of the city, with a strategic location to anywhere else in
the city, state, country and abroad (the international airport is located there). It is
the most populated area in the city and needs to be well treated, as a new
investment option, regardless of titles assigned to it. With its proper use, we would
have a less process of expansion toward the West Zone, giving to the Rio a efficient urban development, integrator and spending few public resources,
resulting in a territory less dispersed and more egalitarian. The lack of investment
in AP 3 has brought, besides the widespread abandonment, tragic consequences
not only for the 38 per cent of the population carioca living there, but also for the entire
city, which bears the overall expenditure of the municipality.
Carioca population grew between 2000 and 2010 from 5,857,904 to
6,320,446 inhabitants, and the population density grew from 4880.37 to 5265.81
hab/square km. Analyzing the five planning areas, we observed a population growth
across all APs in the nineties, but the representative of each one in the citys total
population was redistributed. The AP 3, which concentrates most of the
population of Rio, had a dicrease from 40.20 per cent to 37.96 per cent hab/square km, while the
West Zone had a considerable increase in that number.
The West Zone (Barra da Tijuca, Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Jacarepaguá e
Vargens) is the area that received the most investments and incentives to be
occupied, with only 14.39 per cent of the population residing there. There is still no
efficient system of sewerage, transport, sidewalks and street paving. Nevertheless,
we can see that area envolving more and more, causing a collapse not only within
the limits of the West Zone, but also affecting the traffic throughout the city. In
contrast, AP 3, with nearly 38 per cent of the municipal population, has been losing its
representativity, due to the lack of policies to encourage the attraction of new
residents and provide better services to the current.
A city like Rio de Janeiro, where there is still no efficient mass transport,
should be more compact and its residents served by quality services in short rays,
eliminating the dependence on shifts that require the use of own vehicles. The
consequences of urban sprawl is what we see nowadays, like the constant traffic
jams, due to the dependence of vehicles from those who live in areas furthest from
downtown, the high cost of deployment transportation system to meet these new
areas, need for sanitation base infrastructure, paving and lighting.
The big question is, if there is a region still largely in its horizontal and
already endowed with infrastructure, as the AP 3, investments in development and
attracting new residents would be a way to save public money and take advantage
from the current urban area of the city, contributing to a truly sustainable development. Rio de Janeiro does not have more growth cluttered spaces and
building in prime areas are increasingly rare. Seeing the AP 3 as a growth vector
of Rio is an economical way to have an efficient and inclusive urban
development. This need has been ratified by legislation through the
Complementary Law 111/11, which determined the incentive of that area and
some adjacent.
AP 3, because of its size and diversity, demands varied solutions, but the
common denominator is the need to stimulate the formal residential occupation,
urbanization, retrenchment in slums, the recovery of peripheral areas to them, that
has been assuming characteristics of informality, and improving the infrastructure
and quality of the transport system. There are many obsolete and underutilized
areas that will enable a transformation in the way of inhabiting the city.
If there is a global awareness of the urban territory, either in Rio de Janeiro
or any other city in the world, the concept of sustainable growth is meaningless,
with neighborhoods rising, developing and dying, wasting past spending and
future spending provoking. Cities can not continue with thoughts segregatórios
class and should be properly used and maintained, valuing its past and controlling
the growth process on expensive areas untouched, becoming an integrated
environment and easy to be used and administered.
Despite this negative picture, a more attentive enough to discover the
enormous economic potential of the AP 3. The housing market in certain spots is
heated and there are high expectations of its expansion with new public and
private investments that are occurring. Life in neighborhoods still retains an
aspect of good neighborliness, preserving a quality of life now lost in the more
developed districts of the city. We can already notice a special attention to the
region, with new public and private investment, with little prospect of
improvement in visibility and consolidation of growth vector proposed by the
current master plan.

[en] CONFIDENCE INTERVAL FOR OIL AND GAS RESERVES APRRECIATION / [pt] INTERVALO DE CONFIANÇA PARA APRECIAÇÃO DE RESERVAS DE ÓLEO E GÁSMARCOS TADAYOSHI SAWAKI 19 December 2003 (has links)
calculando a apreciação média e a elas associando as
determinando curvas delimitadoras do intervalo. Dos
modelos
[en] Oil and gas reserve appreciation, or growth, is a
phenomenon important to petroleum exploratory and producing
companies. If well understood, the companies will improve
their reserves projection into the future. Each field
presents a particular appreciation that depends on various
factors that move resources from an initial classification
into proved reserve-classification. This thesis proposes a
methodology for determining oil and gas reserves
appreciation based on historical time series data from
similar fields, calculating year to year average
appreciation, and associating to each average a confidence
interval. Two models were selected for adjustment
(logarithmic and hyperbolic) both presenting monotonic non-
increasing year to year growth. The logarithmic model
presented better adjustment to a limited data-set but
hyperbolic should not be discarded both because it has
desirable features and may produce better future
projections. The difficulties in obtaining adequate real
historical data, and other kinds of information on reserves
time series impeded further statistical analysis.

very weak regularity assumptions on the differential operator. In this way
we generalize and unify all previous results of this type.
As an application, we prove a priori estimates for a class of quasilinear
elliptic problems with quadratic growth on the gradient and we investigate,
under various assumptions, the multiplicity of the solutions obtained for
this problem.

[en] ALTERNATIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE FABRICATION OF HIGH EFFICIENCY SOLAR CELLS WITH REDUCTION OF COST AND GE CONSUMPTION / [pt] TECNOLOGIAS ALTERNATIVAS PARA FABRICAÇÃO DE CÉLULAS SOLARES DE ELEVADA EFICIÊNCIA COM REDUÇÃO DE CUSTO E CONSUMO DE GEEDGARD WINTER DA COSTA 15 December 2022 (has links)
[en] Germanium (Ge) substrates are used for the growth of III-V
optoelectronic devices such as solar cells. However, Ge is a critical raw
material due to its limited availability. Furthermore, Ge substrate accounts
for about 30-40 percent of the total costs of a triple junction solar cell. In this
work III-V samples and solar cells were grown on Ge substrates with
different technologies (techs). Three different techs were investigated: 1)
using Ge substrates with porous layers to grow III-V materials, in which
the porous layer is removed so that the substrate can be reused; 2)
using thinner substrates and with fewer surface finishing processes, which
makes it rougher compared to commercial substrates; 3) replacing the Ge
substrate with alternative substrates that comprise other elements, such
as a Si substrate where a metamorphic SiGe buffer is deposited, in which
the lattice parameter is gradually adjusted until it reaches Si0.1 Ge0.9.
The substrates used are not as perfect as commercial Ge substrates and
can generate defects in the subsequent III-V layers. To investigate the
influence of these substrates on III-V layers, double heterostructures (DH)
of AlGaInAs/GaInAs were grown on the substrates of techs 1 and 2 and
DH of AlGaAs/GaAs on the substrates of tech 3. Their properties were
evaluated with AFM to obtain the root mean square roughness and possible
surface defects, cathodoluminescence to estimate the density of defects in
the structure and Electron Channeling Contrast Imaging to identify the
types of defects found with CL. Furthermore, for samples grown on tech
1 substrates, the compositions and thicknesses were evaluated by XRD,
and with time-resolved photoluminescence, the lifetime of the electrons was
evaluated. Triple junction solar cells were also grown on techs 2 and 3
substrates, which were processed and characterized by I-V and EQE curves.
The results obtained with all tecs lead to an optimistic perspective for a
future with cheaper solar cells that use less Ge.

[pt] TAXIONOMIA DA GOVERNANÇA DOS CLUBES DE FUTEBOL NO BRASIL / [en] TAXONOMY OF THE GOVERNANCE OF FOOTBALL CLUBS IN BRAZILMARCIO JEAN COSTA SANTANA 27 November 2023 (has links)
A análise
[en] The Football is the most popular sport in the world. Brazil, the biggest winner
of the Football World Cups and one of the biggest (if not the biggest) player pool on
the planet, has a strong connection with sport, which ends up making sports practice
part of the people s culture. This sport, a few years ago, reached the status of a
multibillion-dollar financial market in Brazil, especially when Brazil won the right to
host the 2014 World Cup, as this opened the eyes of investors interested in this market.
Aware of this economic potential, the present study was an additional instrument for a
better understanding of the particularities existing in the governance of football clubs
in Brazil. The analysis of the different clubs showed that it is possible to divide them
into groups, which prove the existence of a correlation between corporate governance
and financial health. It was evident that the better the governance of a club, the better
the financial results, because through efficient management they manage to diversify
the sources of income and optimize expenses. On the other hand, clubs with poor
governance, accumulate debts and find it very difficult to obtain good financial results,
because, even though they have good revenues, they end up, as a rule, spending more
than they earn. Because of this, the adoption of corporate governance practices in
Brazilian football clubs is essential to ensure the preservation and development not
only of the club, but of Brazilian football.

[pt] O EFEITO DOS KNOWLEDGE SPILLOVERS SOBRE O DESEMPENHO INOVADOR E O CRESCIMENTO DAS FIRMAS DE MANUFATURA COLOMBIANAS / [en] THE EFFECT OF KNOWLEDGE SPILLOVERS ON INNOVATION PERFORMANCE AND GROWTH OF COLOMBIAN MANUFACTURING FIRMSLUIZ FERNANDO DE PARIS CALDAS 07 May 2020 (has links)
[en] Innovation drives economic growth and connects with the firms evolutionary cycle that launches new products in a continuous quest for performance improvement. With the advent of open innovation, more firms have begun to complement their knowledge base and to fuel the innovative process with external sources. However, when innovation is developed, part of the new knowledge also becomes public through knowledge spillovers, thus potentially benefiting other firms. The relation between innovation performance and external knowledge sources, such as the firm s collaboration with partners, has been extensively studied in developed markets. However, the same is not observed for knowledge spillovers, especially in the case of countries that are less advanced with respect to innovation. This study analyzed the extent to which external knowledge provided by the collaboration with partners and especially the industry knowledge spillovers affect product innovation performance and firm growth. A conceptual model was proposed to measure the relative contribution of these sources as well as the impact of the firm size on the studied relations. The analysis was conducted on a sample of 913 Colombian manufacturing firms with data extracted from EDIT innovation research for the period 2011 to 2016. The hypotheses were tested using the structural equation modeling technique. To understand the impact of firm size on the model relationships, a multigroup analysis was carried out. The results supported most hypotheses and provided some interesting insights. The positive effects of the firm collaboration on product innovation performance were corroborated, revealing that resource-scarce environments, such as Colombia, encourage collaboration regardless of the size of the firm. As for the positive effects of industry knowledge spillovers on product innovation performance, support was contingent on the firm size. For small and medium enterprises (SMEs), not only were these effects confirmed but also proved to be superior to those of collaboration with partners. This finding makes it evident that knowledge spillovers are the most relevant source in explaining the product innovation performance of Colombian SMEs, even when the firm collaboration is also significant. In the case of the large enterprises (LEs), the direct contribution of the industry knowledge spillovers on product innovation performance was not significant, possibly due to their greater internal abundance of resources. For the effect moderated by the absorptive capacity, the contribution was negative, possibly indicating that the knowledge losses generated by outgoing spillovers are detrimental to the innovation performance of these firms. The study also corroborated that the growth of firms of both sizes is positively influenced by their innovation performance. However, the findings for industry knowledge spillovers suggest that Colombian SMEs may be behaving opportunistically, excessively free-riding on R&D investments of LEs which may reduce the incentives for the latter to keep investing in innovation. It is hoped that these findings will contribute to Colombia s efforts to create better conditions for innovation to thrive.

[pt] A INFLUÊNCIA DOS DEFEITOS CRISTALINOS NA EFICIÊNCIA DE CÉLULAS SOLARES DE BANDA INTERMEDIÁRIA BASEADAS EM SEMICONDUTORES III-V / [en] THE ROLE OF DEFECTS ON THE EFFICIENCY OF INTERMEDIATE BAND SOLAR CELLS BASED ON III-V SEMICONDUCTORSLIDA JANETH COLLAZOS PAZ 09 February 2021 (has links)
InAs.
As eficiências
As outras duas células
Portanto, a
portanto, limitar a eficiência delas.
[en] Defects present in structures of intermediate band (IB) solar cells of
GaAs with InAs quantum dots (QDs) grown by MOVPE have been investigated.
The three studied IB solar cells differ in the growth temperature of
the spacer layers that separate the InAs QD layers in the active region and
the thickness of the thin layer that capping each QD layer. Previously, the
energy conversion efficiencies of these cells were measured and the cell with
the highest spacer layer-growth temperature (700 C degrees) and thinner capping
layer (3 nm) showed the highest efficiency, about 6.9 percent. The cells with thicker
capping layers (6 nm) showed lower efficiencies, one of them, with spacer
layers grown at 700 C degrees, reaching 5.1 percent, and the other one, with spacer layers
grown at 600 C degrees, reaching only 2.8 percent. In this work, DLTS and Laplace DLTS
studies show that the cell with the lowest efficiency has the largest number
and highest concentrations of defects, unlike the other two cells, which have
only one trap, EL2, in lower concentrations. These results demonstrate that
the different growth conditions are determinant for the formation of defects
and that the defect reduction leads to the increase of the IB solar cell efficiencies.
Other samples were also grown and studied by the same techniques:
three solar cells with identical structure as the IB solar cells, but without
QDs, and individually doped GaAs samples that represent the p and n contact
sides of the IB solar cells. From the study of the cells without QDs,
the origin of some defects in the IB solar cells was found to be related to
the QD growth conditions or related to the spacer layer-growth temperature.
The study of the GaAs samples indicated the presence of defects in
the p and n sides that could trap photo-excited carriers collected through
these contacts during cell operation and thus reduce the efficiency. The results
of this work allow developing new strategies to improve the epitaxial
growth quality of IB solar cells in the laboratory of semiconductors LabSem
of PUC-Rio where the studied samples were grown.
