[en] INTERACTION DESIGN AND PERVASIVE COMPUTING: A STUDY OF ATTENTIONAL MECHANISMS AND AMBIENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS / [pt] DESIGN DE INTERAÇÃO E COMPUTAÇÃO PERVASIVA: UM ESTUDO SOBRE MECANISMOS ATENCIONAIS E SISTEMAS DE INFORMAÇÃO AMBIENTEMAURO PINHEIRO RODRIGUES 05 July 2013 (has links)
[en] This thesis investigates the different attentional mechanisms involved when
using ambient information systems. To that end, it defines and delimits
pervasive computing – when computational resources are embedded into the
environment and in everyday objects – and discusses the consequences of this
technology, regarding the social impacts, environmental implications, security
and privacy issues, highlighting the role of design on this matter. It presents the
evolution of interaction design, emphasizing its relationship with the design of
interactive media. It proposes to broaden the interaction design field, considering
that the computer screen is no longer the primary interface with the digital
environment, and that interaction design requires a systemic approach in the
context of pervasive computing. It introduces Weiser and Brown s (1996) concept
of calm technology, and deepens the discussion initiated by these authors about
the need for designing information systems that act on the periphery of our
attention, based on Cognitive psychology studies about attentional mechanisms.
It highlights ambient information systems as those which have more properly
embraced the idea of presenting information without requiring the focus of our
attention. It analyzes twelve ambient information systems, investigating how the
attentional mechanisms are involved in their usage. It concludes that Weiser and
Brown s (1996) original concept is not sufficient to describe the myriad of
processes involved with our attention, and outlines guidelines for the design of
ambient information systems, in order to consider the dynamics between different
attentional mechanisms, the context of use, the degree of user engagement, the
influence of memory and the ability to habituate to information systems.

[en] This study considers leisure from the elderly consumers`
point of view, comparing two groups. The expectations of
one group before retirement and reality of the other group
after retirement. The results were obtained trough
questionnaires distributed among 202 people and show that
there are significant differences between the consumers`
expectations in relation to leisure practice before
retirement and the reality they face afterretirement.
Moreover the level of satisfaction regarding leisure after
retirement overcomes the level of satisfaction found among
those who are about to retire.

[en] ROMANTIC SATISFACTION: PREDICTOR VARIABLES AND IMPACT ON SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING / [pt] SATISFAÇÃO COM O RELACIONAMENTO AMOROSO: VARIÁVEIS PREDITORAS E IMPACTO SOBRE O BEM-ESTAR SUBJETIVOAMANDA LONDERO DOS SANTOS 25 June 2020 (has links)
principais preditores positivos do bem-estar subjetivo.
[en] Relationship satisfaction is one of the main subjects studied in the area of
interpersonal relationships, and it is something very desired by people who are in
romantic relationship. The general aims of this thesis were to identify predictors
of relationship satisfaction and to verify the relationship between relationship
satisfaction and subjective well-being. To achieve these objectives, four studies
were developed. The first study investigated concepts associated with positive
valence regarding the relationship and the romantic partner. In the second study, a
scale used for evaluating relationship satisfaction was adapted for Brazil and a
revised version of this scale was also proposed. In the third study, the mediating
effect of the perception of partner s investment in the relationship between
attachment and relationship satisfaction was tested. Finally, the fourth study
investigated the predictive power of aspects of the romantic relationship over
subjective well-being, in addition to what is explained by the sociodemographic
and personality variables. The results revealed concepts frequently associated with
the relationship and romantic partner schemes, which allowed finding possible
predictors of relationship satisfaction. The perception of partner s unbankable
symbolic investment was an important positive predictor of relationship
satisfaction, fully mediating the relationship between attachment and relationship
satisfaction. Relationship satisfaction was one of the main positive predictors of
subjective well-being. Based on the results of the studies in this thesis, possible
interventions are suggested to improve romantic relationships that, in turn, will
contribute to a happier life.

[pt] ENTENDEU OU QUER QUE EU DESENHE?: UM ESTUDO SOBRE A PERCEPÇÃO DOS LEITORES SOBRE OS LIVROS ILUSTRADOS DE FICCÇÃO EM PROSA DIRIGIDOS AO PÚBLICO ADULTO / [en] GOT IT OR DO YOU WANT ME TO DRAW A PICTURE FOR YOU?: A STUDY OF THE READER S PERCEPTION ABOUT ILUSTRATED FICTION PROSE BOOKS TARGETED AT THE ADULT AUDIENCEBRUNA SPINOLA SADDY 18 October 2016 (has links)
[pt] Esta pesquisa pretende investigar, compreender e descrever as percepções
Cardoso (2012), Rittel e Webber (1973). / [en] This dissertation s research aims to investigate, comprehend and describe
adult readers current perceptions about the participation of illustration in fiction
prose books aimed at a adult audience and the market s supply. Based on the assumption
that issues related to attribution of values and hierarchization between the
written content and the image content maintain the current paradigm of absence
of illustration in fiction prose books aimed at adult audiences, this dissertation s
methodology covers: a retrospective of the history of illustrated books based on the
studies of Fischer (2006), Powers (2011) and Chartier (1998); a discussion about
the social pressures that act upon the adult reader gathering concepts of the works
of Rancière (2009), Bourdieu (1998) and Nikilajeva and Scott (2011); a quantitative
research done in a book store about the incidence of illustrations in the current
market supply, based on Gil (2002) – in which is found that the majority of fiction
prose books aimed at adults do not have illustrations – and a questionnaire with
more than 400 adult readers, based on the Bardin s methodology (2002), in with
is found that there is a possible demand or niche for adult illustrated fiction books,
as well great social acceptance of the adults who like illustrated books, thought
there races of attribution of values and hierarchization were found. Ultimately, it
proposes a discussion about the designer s role, as an influenced person and as an
influence himself, based on the thoughts of Farbiarz (2008) and Findeli (1994), and
about the book and its fruition as a wicked problem, based in the ideas of Cardoso
(2012), Rittel and Webber (1973).
