The Acceleration of Digitalization and its Influence on Business Model Innovation : A qualitative study of Swedish SMEs from the perspective of a business developer

de Flon, Pim, Lindgren, Lovisa January 2021 (has links)
Background: Covid-19 has accelerated digitalization and pressured companies across multiple sectors to digitally transform their operations. Such adaptation requires businesses to rethink and change their existing business models, thus, business model innovation (BMI). Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), whose success is highly dependent on their experimentation and development of new technologies, are struggling with this adaptation.   Problem: SMEs, the heart and backbone of economic growth, struggle with implementing digitalization due to their lack of awareness, evaluation, knowledge, and resources. Regardless of their struggle, they are now forced to change their structures and business models. While there is an abundance of research on the impact of digitalization on BMI those studies rarely focus on how the acceleration of digitalization has influenced SMEs BMI.  Purpose: The purpose of this research is to explore how the acceleration of digitalization has impacted BMI of Swedish SMEs. The findings from this research are expected to contribute with academic value to the theoretical fields under investigation, Swedish policymakers, and business authorities, along with providing guidance for individual SMEs.  Method: This study has an exploratory approach, an inductive design within the interpretive philosophy. To collect the primary data, ten qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with business developers who possessed strong expertise and knowledge within the investigated fields. The data analysis followed Charmaz’s (2006) constructivist grounded theory, which emphasized a coding process including initial and focused coding.   Conclusion: The empirical findings shed light on important attributes and actions for a successful BMI which set the basis for the proposed model. The 6-step model explains the process of how an SME can successfully adapt and change under external pressure, such as the acceleration of digitalization and a crisis like Covid-19. The 6 steps include Create Awareness, Develop a Clear Strategy, Acquire Knowledge, Develop an Organizational Culture, Pursue Experimentation, and Implement the New Business Model. This process is not only crucial for a business’ competitive advantage but rather for its survival.

How digitalization affects accounting consultants’ work during the Covid-19 pandemic : A qualitative comparative study between accounting consultants from small, medium and large accounting firms

Wiberg, Amanda, Wulkan, Lisen January 2021 (has links)
The digital development in society has for a long time affected the accounting profession, where the accounting consultants' work has changed from working with papers to the usage of computers and digital technologies. This has led to more efficient and accurate work, owing to the digitalization. Previous studies have investigated how digital development impacts the accounting profession, however, the effect of Covid-19 has not been investigated in relation to digitalization or the work of accounting consultants. The restrictions which arose as a result of Covid-19 have affected companies, including accounting firms. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of how the digitalization affect the work of accounting consultants during the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, to observe if there are differences between accounting consultants from small-, medium- and large-sized accounting firms regarding their work. A qualitative method has been used to answer the purpose, where the empirical material has been collected from semi-structured interviews. Eleven consultants from accounting firms of different sizes located in Sweden have been interviewed.  The result of the study shows that the accounting consultants' work is affected by both Covid-19 and the digitalization, furthermore the consultants also imply that Covid-19 has accelerated the digitalization to some extent. All consultants are positive regarding digital development and its contribution to more efficient work. A conclusion that has emerged among consultants from medium-sized and large accounting firms, is that Covid-19 has led to more work from other places than the offices. Those from small firms have instead had the opportunity to work from the office to a higher degree. Physical meetings have decreased due to Covid-19, which has resulted in the use of more digital technologies. According to the consultants, digitalization has provided the conditions needed to be able to practice the work more digitally and from other places than the office. Further, the result shows that consultants from small accounting firms are generally more positive to exchange experiences with others in the profession, in comparison with those from large and medium-sized firms.

Delningsekonomi: En analys på Airbnbs strategier och digitala plattform under Covid-19 / Sharing Economy: An analysis of Airbnb’s strategies and digital platform during Covid-19

Kajrup, Gabriella, Nilsson, Louise January 2021 (has links)
The sharing economy (SE) and specifically sharing companies with services in travel and tourism have been greatly affected by Covid-19. In connection with this, digitalization has been accelerated. The study aims to examine how the digital platform Airbnb has changed and developed new strategies during the pandemic. The aim is also to investigate how digitalization can affect Airbnb's future concepts regarding accommodation and experiences. Empirical material has been collected through 14 qualitative email interviews with the company's hosts, all of whom arrange digital experiences from different locations around the world. The material is complemented by two secondary sources in the form of podcast interviews with Airbnb founder Brian Chesky. The results showed that Airbnb has developed various strategies to be able to adapt to the pandemic, such as internal cuts, long-term stays and the concept of digital experiences. The majority of the hosts are pleased with the new concept and believe that digital experiences will remain even after the pandemic. Regarding the future effect of digitalization on Airbnb's concepts, digitalization can have major effects in such a way that more people travel physically because they now see the opportunity to work remotely and take the work with them on trips. At the same time, social behaviors such as distancing will remain after the pandemic and alternatives such as VR and AR may become more relevant in the company in connection with continued digital experiences.

To read digitally : A qualitative research of five teachers' perceptions of digital tools in reading instructionin compulsory school grades 4-6.

Jonsson, Love January 2021 (has links)
In a society where children spend more time in front of the computer than reading books, can awareness of digital tools benefit read development according to research. Sowing the Right Seeds & Harvesting Digital Transformation : A case study of drivers and barriers to digital transformation in the forestry industry

Kristofersson, Amanda, Torto, Malaika January 2021 (has links)
Digital transformation (DT) continuously reshapes and disrupts industries organizations operate in. Although the rising phenomenon is increasingly being investigated by academia, the factors influencing the adoption of DT in pre-digital and traditional industries are sufficiently unexplored. This study investigates managers’ perspectives on the drivers and barriers surrounding DT in traditional industries. To do this, we conducted an industry-level qualitative case study of the five biggest firms in the Swedish forestry industry. Through analysis using a DT framework, our results indicate that changing customers’ expectations and improving firm performance, to name a few, were the main drivers for DT in the forestry industry. However, our findings revealed that the main barriers to DT were related to the cultural and organizational identities of employees in the forestry industry. This study contributes to existing literature and provides suggestions for practitioners in traditional industries to address the challenges that may arise during the digital transformation process.

Seeking the Unknown : A Multiple Case Study of Traditional Industries Engagement in the Digital Landscape

Kyrk, Marcus, Eriksson, Jakob January 2021 (has links)
The digital landscape of the modern age is frequently disrupted by new and innovative technologies, causing traditional industries to become calcified. This study examines how organizations within a traditional setting are confronted with numerous challenges when undertaking the challenge of remaining relevant in a digital age. The growing interconnectivity across multiple business landscapes demands new and innovative forms of managing a business. Nevertheless, the related research on how traditional industries are adapting to the digitalization of society is limited. Therefore, the study aims to illustrate the phenomena of emerging organizational barriers caused by an ever-changing digital market through incorporating a multiple case study of two traditional organizations and asking the research question: “What barriers emerge as traditional firms seek to actively engage in the digitalization of society?” The study defines two such barriers, (1) The internal stress of an expanding organization and (2) the underlying silos of Sigma. The separate barriers illustrate an insight into the importance of understanding and mastering the internal process of continuous transformation.

Die Kraft einer Handschrift: Der Codex Sinaiticus im Internet

Schneider, Ulrich Johannes 04 September 2008 (has links)
Was bringt 2,6 Mio.
