臺灣華語的口語詞彙辨識歷程: 從雙音節詞來看 / Spoken word recognition in Taiwan Mandarin: evidence from isolated disyllabic words

論文提要內容:(共一冊,17770字,分六章) 本研究用雙音節詞來探討不同音段和聲調在臺灣華語的口語詞彙辨識歷程中的重要性。Cohort模型(1978)非常強調詞首訊息的重要性,然而Merge模型(2000)認為訊息輸入和音韻表徵的整體吻合才是最重要的。因此,本研究企圖探索不同音段和詞首詞尾在臺灣華語的口語詞彙辨識歷程中的重要性。然而,聲調的問題並無在先前的模型裡被討論。因此,聲調在臺灣華語的口語詞彙辨識歷程中所扮演的角色也會在本研究中被討論。另外,詞頻效應也會在本研究中被探索。本研究的三個實驗均由同樣的十五名受試者參加。實驗一是測試不同音段在臺灣華語的口語詞彙辨識歷程中的重要性。實驗一操弄十二個雙音節高頻詞和十二個雙音節低頻詞,每一個雙音節詞的每一個音段都分別被噪音擋住。實驗二是在探索詞首和詞尾在臺灣華語的口語詞彙辨識歷程中的重要性。實驗二操弄十二個雙音節高頻詞和十二個雙音節低頻詞。這些雙音節詞的詞首CV或詞尾VG/N都分別被雜音擋住。實驗三操弄二十四個雙音節高頻詞和二十四個雙音節低頻詞。這些雙音節詞的聲調都被拉平到100赫茲。在這三個實驗中,受試者必須聽這些被操弄過的雙音節詞,並且辨認它們。受試者的反應時間和辨詞的準確率都用E-Prime來記錄。實驗結果顯示,傳統的Cohort模型不能被完全支持,因為詞首訊息被噪音擋住的詞仍能被受試者成功的辨識出來。強調聲音訊息和音韻表徵的整體吻合度的Merge模型,比較能解釋實驗的結果。然而,Merge模型必須要加入韻律節點才能處理臺灣華語的聲調辨識的問題。本研究也顯示,雙音節詞的第一個音節的母音在口語詞彙辨識歷程中是最重要的,而雙音節詞的第二個音節的母音是第二重要的。這是因為母音帶了最多訊息,包括聲調。另外,雙音節詞的詞首和詞尾在臺灣華語的口語詞彙辨識歷程中是扮演差不多重要的角色。母音對於聲調的感知是最重要的。詞頻效應也完全表現在臺灣華語的口語詞彙辨識歷程中。 關鍵詞:口語詞彙辨識歷程、臺灣華語、華語聲調、音段、Cohort模型、Merge模型 / The present study investigated the importance of different segments and the importance of tone in spoken word recognition in Taiwan Mandarin by using isolated disyllabic words. Cohort model (1978) emphasized the absolute importance of the initial information. On the contrary, Merge (2000) proposed that the overall match between the input and the phonological representation is the most crucial. Therefore, this study tried to investigate the importance of different segments and the importance of onsets and offsets in the processing of Mandarin spoken words. However, the issues of tone were not included in the previous models. Thus, the importance of tone was also investigated in this study. The issues about frequency effect were also explored here. Three experiments were designed in this study. Fifteen subjects were invited to participate in all three experiments. Experiment 1 was designed to investigate the importance of different segments in Taiwan Mandarin. In experiment 1, 12 high-frequency disyllabic words and 12 low-frequency disyllabic words were selected. Each segment of each disyllabic word was replaced by the hiccup noise. Experiment 2 was designed to investigate the importance of onsets and offsets. In experiment 2, 12 high-frequency disyllabic words and 12 low-frequency disyllabic words were chosen. The CV of the first syllable and the VG/N of the second syllable were replaced by the hiccup noise. Experiment 3 was designed to investigate the importance of Mandarin tones. In experiment 3, 24 high-frequency disyllabic words and 24 low-frequency disyllabic words were selected. The tones of the disyllabic words were leveled to 100 Hz. In the three experiments, subjects listened to the stimuli and recognized them. The reaction time and accuracy were measured by E-Prime. The results indicated that traditional Cohort model cannot be fully supported because words can still be correctly recognized when word initial information is disruptive. Merge model, which proposed that the overall match between the input and the lexical representation is the most important, was more compatible with the results here. However, Merge model needs to include the prosody nodes, so that it can account for the processing of tones in Taiwan Mandarin. In addition, the current study also showed that the first vowel of the disyllabic word is the most crucial and the second vowel of the disyllabic word is the second influential since the vowel carries the most important information, including tones. The results of experiment 2 demonstrated that the onsets and offsets are almost the same important in Mandarin. Furthermore, vowel is the most influential segment for the perception of Mandarin tones. Finally, frequency effect appeared in the processing of Mandarin words. 中文顏色詞彙處理機制:心理語言學的實證 / The Lexical process of color terms in Chinese: Evidence from Psycholinguistics

長久以來,序列式詞彙處理模式以及互動式詞彙處理模式經常爭論孰為合理的語誤生成模型。這份研究企圖利用心理學實證角度探究此議題。原屬於心理學範疇的史楚普技術(1935)或可提供語言學多方面的視角,尤其在我們處理顏色詞彙時詞彙譯碼歷程上與視覺表徵之間的關係。因此我們試圖將此經典心理學技術轉化成宜於語言學研究的語誤誘發實驗。藉由控制變項間的語音近似度,創制了四項實驗,分別是:顏色唸名實驗、顏色誦讀實驗、史楚普唸名實驗、同音詞唸名實驗。結果顯示,即便受試者對語音近似度並未在單項實驗中產生語誤數量與反應時間的差異,但它在不同實驗任務之間卻誘使受試者產生不一樣的反應結果,包括數量上及時間上的顯著差異。 此外,我們針對語誤,分析其與目標字之間的關係,研判部分音韻效應是否對詞彙處理網絡造成顯著影響。結果顯示,史楚普效應、音韻結構、音法限制以及聲調效應在語誤數量中均出現顯著的生成量;音節首、韻部以及母音則並未出現顯著效應。史楚普技術除了在語誤證據中為文字閱讀提供自動化效應的解釋外,也讓我們看到音韻效應在不同視覺任務指派中產生顯著差異的結果。如此看來,互動式模型提供了較為簡潔的解釋。來自二元視覺刺激(視覺色彩與顏色詞)的詞彙競爭,該框架可以合理提供理論基礎,並解釋不同視覺任務之間音韻關係依存度的不同。 另一方面,我們亦援引同樣技術設計出以音韻單位為導向的唸名實驗,討論語言輸出前規劃單位之議題。我們發現,僅含聲調的音節以及無聲調的音節可在詞彙網絡中做為語言規劃之心理處理單位,促進詞彙處理效能。其他單位如音節首、介音、母音、韻尾、聲調則無法出現顯著效應。同時亦於實驗中發現,中文聲調於規劃階段時,應是屬於詞彙結構上的聲調,而非純粹的聲韻調。 / Serial-ordering model and interactive processing model have long been discussed as whether people process languages in a sequential level of processing or the consequence of levels interacting altogether by looking at speech errors. Stroop technique (1935) in psychology could give linguistics some insights on the relation between lexical encoding and visual representation when people process colors. We tried to adapt this classical psychological experiment for an experiment of speech error elicitation. By means of controlling the phonological similarity, we created four experiments: color naming, color reading, Stroop naming, and homophonous naming tasks. The result first showed that even though phonological similarity did not induce significant difference in error amount and response time within single task, it still caused significant difference in these results among these tasks. Second, after analyzing the linguistic relation between targets and speech errors, we found that Stroop effect, syllable structure, phonotactic regularity, and tone induced apparent effects in error generation, while initial, rhyme, and vowel did not. Stroop effect not only provided the evidence from speech errors where character representation was an autonomous mechanism in lexical process, but also provided a fact that phonological effect would impacted differently on amount of error according to the type of visual task. It seems that interactive account could help explain the result easily, as the competition from dual visual inputs could be given a theoretical basis to account for the phonological dependency according to certain visual task which subjects were assigned to. Finally, we also discussed the issue of advanced planning unit in lexical process. In the shared unit task with Stroop technique, we found that only the units of tonal syllable and bare syllable could serve as possible planning units in lexical network, and tone in Chinese should be attributed to a type of lexical tone in planning, rather than a pure phonological tone. To sum up, the purpose of the study attempts to provide empirical evidence to examine the above issues.

詞性及語意限制對詞彙歧義解困的影響:中文歧義詞處理的眼動研究 / The influence of syntactic category and semantic constraints on lexical ambiguity resolution: An eye-movement study of processing Chinese homographs

兩種語句處理模型曾被提出以解釋閱讀句子時語法及語意資訊的互動。句法優先模型(syntax-first models)認為詞性判斷必定先於語意分析,而制約滿足模型(constraint-satisfaction models)則認為不同的資訊在語句理解的過程中會同時被處理。本研究檢驗兩種語句處理模型能否解釋語句中的詞彙歧義解困(lexical ambiguity resolution)。 許多眼動研究曾發現詞彙歧義詞的次要語義偏向效應(subordinate bias effect),顯示語意偏向次要語義的語境能加速激發歧義詞的次要語義並且產生語義競爭。然而,語境的語法在詞彙歧義解困中扮演的角色並不清楚。因而,不同語義分屬不同詞性的詞性歧義詞便提供我們一個媒介以檢驗詞彙歧義解困中詞性及語意限制的互動。 本研究的目的有二:(一) 檢驗詞性限制能否決定中文詞性歧義詞的語義解困;(二) 檢驗中文歧義詞語義的詞性是否會影響次要語義偏向效應。實驗一我們將四種不同類型的中文非均勢同形異義詞置於語法及語意皆為次要語義偏向的句子裡;實驗二則將四種不同類型的中文非均勢同形異義詞置於語法為次要語義偏向但語意中立的句子裡。受試者閱讀句子時的眼動表現會即時被記錄。 實驗一的結果發現:(一) 四類型歧義詞的次要語義偏向效應只反映在目標詞後區域的二次閱讀指標上;(二) 就效果量而言,NV歧義詞的次要語義偏向效應在目標詞及目標詞後兩個區域都比VN歧義詞來得大。實驗二的結果則發現:(一) VN歧義詞的次要語義偏向效應從目標詞區的首次閱讀指標就出現,並且持續至目標詞及目標詞後兩個區域的二次閱讀指標;(二) 另外三類型歧義詞的次要語義偏向效應直到所有分析區域的二次閱讀指標才反映出來;(三) NV歧義詞的次要語義偏向效應比VN歧義詞出現得更晚也更不明顯。整體而言,本研究的結果顯示詞性限制並不是影響中文詞性歧義詞語義解困的唯一因素。此結果支持制約滿足模型,並反對句法優先模型的預測。 / Two primary sentence processing models have been proposed to account for the interaction between syntactic and semantic information in reading sentences: Syntax-first models assume that syntactic-category assignment must precede semantic analysis, while constraint-satisfaction models propose that information from different sources is processed and weighed at the same time during sentence comprehension. The present study examined whether these sentence processing models, which assume different contribution of syntactic category and semantic context, can explain the resolution of lexical ambiguity in sentences. Several eye movement studies have demonstrated the subordinate bias effect (SBE) for lexical-semantic ambiguous words (i.e., NN/VV homographs), indicating that a subordinate-biased semantic context can boost the activation of the subordinate meaning of ambiguous words and causes meaning competition (Duffy, Morris, & Rayner, 1988). However, the role of syntactic context in lexical ambiguity resolution is less clear. Syntactic category ambiguous words (i.e., SCA words; VN/NV homographs), whose alternative meanings differ in syntactic category (e.g., watch in English), serve as a means of examining the interaction between syntactic category and semantic constraints during lexical ambiguity resolution. The purpose of the present study was twofold: (a) to examine whether the syntactic category constraint can determine the semantic resolution of Chinese SCA words, and (b) to investigate whether syntactic category of alternative meanings of Chinese homographs can influence the SBE during lexical ambiguity resolution. Four types of Chinese biased homographs (NN, VV, VN, and NV) were embedded into syntactically and semantically subordinate-biased sentences (Experiment 1) and into syntactically subordinate-biased but semantically neutral sentences (Experiment 2). Participants’ eye movements were recorded as they read each sentence. In Experiment 1, the results showed: (1) The SBE for the four types of homographs was significant only in the second-pass reading on the post-target words. (2) Numerically, the NV homographs revealed a larger effect size of SBE than VN homographs on both target and post-target words. In Experiment 2, the results showed: (1) The SBE for VN appeared from the first-pass reading on the target words and lasted to the second-pass reading on the target and post-target words. (2) The SBE for the other types of homographs did not occur until the second-pass reading in all analyzed regions. (3) The SBE for NV occurred much later and less obviously than that for VN. In general, our findings support the constraint-satisfaction models and reject the prediction of the syntax-first models, suggesting that the syntactic category constraint is not the only factor influencing the semantic resolution of SCA words.

客語母語者使用國音/ɕ/的狀況:社會語言學分析 / Sociolinguistic Analysis of the Phonetic Variation of Mandarin /ɕ/ by Hakka Speakers

大部分在台灣的客家人都會說中文,但是其中有些客家人說國語時會留下客語的遺跡。本篇論文已語言上,場合正式性上,地理區域,以及社會因素等方面探討部分客家人把國語的/ɕ/唸成[s]的原因。 本篇論文包含量化分析以及質化分析,在量化分析上透過面對面的交談,念文章,以及唸單字等方法來收集資料。量化分析上總共有32位受試者,且受試者依照性別,教育程度,年齡以及地理區域以二分法的方式。而在質化分析上的受試者和量化分析的受試者為同一批人,但只有29位再次參與調查。 本篇主要的發現為: (1)在語言內部因素中,字頻,鄰近音,以及音節結構對於語音變異皆有影響。(2)語音變異的確有擴散的現象。(3)在語言外部的因素中,年齡以及地理區域的影響比場合正式性及性別來得大,但教育程度的影響則很微弱。整體而言:(1)本篇調查的語音透過語言內部,場合正式性,社會以及地理空間擴散 (2)語言內部以及語言外部皆對與音變異有影響,但語言外部的因素的影響比內部因素來得大。 / Most Hakka speakers in Taiwan, if not all, speak Mandarin Chinese. Among them, many leave some traces of their Hakka background in their Mandarin pronunciation. This thesis aims at analyzing the linguistic, situational, geographical, and social causes of the emergence of [s] as a phonetic variant of /ɕ/ in Mandarin by Hakka speakers. In this study, both quantitative and qualitative analyses were conducted to locate the internal and the external constraints on the target phonetic variation. Those data for quantitative analyses were collected from the linguistic production by 32 native speakers of Hakka in casual conversation, reading passage, and reading characters. Subjects of this study are equally distributed to two genders, two education levels, two age groups, and two geographical areas (namely, in Taoyuan City and Chungli City, two cities in which a large proportion of Hakka speakers reside) . As for data for qualitative analyses collected from 29 of the 32 subjects of the quantitative tests, only those parts of the qualitative design that were implemented correctly were analyzed. The major findings of this study are (1) among the internal factors, word frequency, preceding vowels, and syllable structure were found to be influential to the target phonetic variation; (2) the target phonetic variation does expands through lexical diffusion; and (3) among the external factors, age and geographical area are more influential than situational formality and gender, but the impact of education level is weak. General conclusion of this study include (1) this target phonetic variation is expanding gradually through linguistic, situational, and social/geographical spaces; and (2) both internal and external factors are effective, with external factors being more influential than internal factors. 語素為基礎的詞彙教學--以《新版實用視聽華語》、《新實用漢語課本》為例 / Morpheme-based Vocabulary Teaching: Textbook Analysis and Teaching Application

本文的研究問題有三:一是了解現今華語綜合性教材語素教學的內容與編排方式;二是提出關於本文分析之華語綜合性教材以語素為基礎的詞彙教學建議;三是教師面對不同教材時,應該如何因應與落實以語素為基礎的詞彙教學。 本文首先從海峽兩岸的專家、學者們對於詞彙教學領域的相關研究和詞彙教學的現狀著手,發現詞彙教學理論研究成果與教學應用脫節,因此如何有效利用漢語詞彙語義特徵和結構特徵進行詞彙教學,值得深入研究。本文將焦點集中於語素教學的理論與教學實施原則,分析在臺灣與中國使用率極高的兩套華語綜合性教材---《新版實用視聽華語》和《新實用漢語課本》,以了解目前教材中語素教學內容的現況。 分析結果發現,兩套教材皆呈現語素教學設計,但是《新版實用視聽華語》的語素分析出現瑕疵,且缺乏詞彙結構分析;而《新實用漢語課本》不論是語素分析或詞彙結構分析,都能以學習者已知的詞彙為基礎而設計。本文參考前人的研究和教材的分析,提出對於這兩套教材中以語素為基礎的詞彙教學建議。最後,本文綜合語素教學研究、教材分析和教學應用,提出一套更完整的語素教學實施原則,以利於教師面對不同教材時得以參考依循。 關鍵字:語素、語素教學、詞彙教學、新版實用視聽華語、新實用漢語課本 / There are three research aspects in this paper: (1) To understand the content and structure of two main current Mandarin pedagogical materials in the context of morpheme-based vocabulary teaching. (2) To provide some teaching suggestions for the design of morpheme-based vocabulary teaching of those two materials. (3) To propose vocabulary teaching strategies on employing morpheme-based vocabulary teaching when teachers are facing different textbooks. In vocabulary teaching, this paper makes an overview of research literature by cross strait scholars, and finds that there is a missing link between theory study and teaching application. It’s promising to explore semantic and morphology of Chinese vocabulary to facilitate vocabulary teaching; thus, morpheme-based vocabulary teaching is proposed. We evaluate two most popular textbooks Practical Audio-visual Chinese 2nd edition and New Practical Chinese Reader to get a picture of how morpheme-based vocabulary teaching is presented. Both textbooks do have morpheme-based vocabulary teaching design. Practical Audio-visual Chinese 2nd edition is faulty in morpheme analysis, and short of analysis of morphology of Chinese vocabulary. New Practical Chinese Reader deserves praising by editing the content of morpheme-based vocabulary teaching at the basis of learned vocabulary, and it excels in the analysis of both morpheme and morphology. Referring to previous studies in this area, we propose recommendations for morpheme-based vocabulary teaching with these two materials. To assist teachers in dealing with various textbooks, we provide practical teaching operation principles, through a comprehensive study of morpheme-based vocabulary teaching, textbook analysis, and teaching application research. Wish this study will help Mandarin teachers teach vocabulary more efficiently. 漢語動結式中的中心語與論元體現 / Headedness and argument realization in mandarin resultative compounds

有關漢語動結式的議題,中心語與論元體現皆呈現了複雜的現象。就中心語這部份,過去研究(Cheng & Huang, 1994; Gu, 1992; Huang & Lin, 1992; Y. Li, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1999; C. Li, 2008, 2009; Shen, 1992; Tai, 2003)的論點相當分歧,顯示漢語動結式中心語的位置仍有討論的空間;至於論元體現方面,由於論元與詞類間的互動會帶出許多不同的語意和句法表現,而先前的研究(Her, 2004, 2007; Li, 1990, 1995)尚未足以完整的解釋這些情形。 本研究主要從詞彙的角度來探討中心語和論元體現這兩個議題。首先,依照Her (2004, 2007)的分析方式,本研究嘗試排列出漢語動結式合法的論元結構,並利用這些論元結構描述各個動結式的論元體現,解釋可能的語意及句法結構。接著,同樣根據所提出的合法論元結構,以顯現的論元為主,並採用有關判斷中心語的假設(Zwicky, 1984; Y. Li, 1990, 1995; Chung, 2006; C. Li, 2008, 2009),整理出漢語動結式中心語的位置。最後,詞彙功能語法中的詞彙映照理論驗證了本研究前半部分對論元體現與中心語的討論,這個理論也另外解釋漢語動結式處所詞倒置的現象。 / Two issues regarding Mandarin resultative compounds, headedness and argument realization, present a complex phenomenon. For one thing, extensive studies (Cheng & Huang, 1994; Gu, 1992; Huang & Lin, 1992; Y. Li, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1999; C. Li, 2008, 2009; Shen, 1992; Tai, 2003) concerning headedness fail to critically determine the head of a Mandarin resultative compound. For another, despite previous research (Her, 2004, 2007; Li, 1990, 1995), the interaction between arguments and grammatical functions of Mandarin resultative compounds remains inconclusive. To settle the foregoing matters, the purpose of this thesis is to probe into argument realization and headedness from a lexicalist approach, aiming to provide a full account of both issues. In the first part of this thesis, following Her’s (2004, 2007) analysis, the thesis focuses on formulating systematic feasible argument structures for Mandarin resultative compounds, then examining the argument structures of a resultative compound to explain its possible readings and syntactic representations. Based on the available argument structures proposed in the first half, the second part of the thesis investigates the headedness of Mandarin resultative compounds, suggesting that the head can be determined when arguments are overt. The criterion for headedness that is adopted in this thesis involves assumptions proposed by Zwicky (1984), Y. Li (1990, 1995), Chung (2006), and C. Li (2008, 2009). Finally, the thesis demonstrates that both issues of argument realization and headedness are well governed by Lexical Mapping Theory and that Lexical Mapping Theory further clarifies constructions with locative inversion of Mandarin resultative compounds.

論中文範域論旨角色 / On the thematic role extent in mandarin Chinese

範域 (Extent)這個論旨角色在漢語中是個常見卻鮮少被研究的論旨角色 (Halliday, 1964; Teng, 1975; Dowty, 1991; Huang, 1993; Her, 2009),本研究旨在探討漢語中的範域論旨角色並且為以客體(Theme),感受者(Experiencer),以及範域(Extent)三個論旨角色為論元的句子提出合理的解釋,例如 “一本書寫了他三年”此類句子。 本篇論文的第一部份探討漢語中的數量詞(number expression)以及時間詞(duration)並且指出在漢語中他們經常被指派為範域論旨角色(Extent)。接著探討 “一本書寫了他三年”此類句子,並且提出活動動詞(activity verb)以及達成動詞(accomplishment verb)會模仿心理動詞(psych verb)因此產生此類句型,也就是客體(Theme)在主詞位置,而感受者(Experiencer)以及範域(Extent)為受詞。由於動詞 ‘寫’模仿了心理動詞,而且此類句型著重在受詞受到動詞的影響,因此原本的主事者(Agent) ‘他’成為主事者和感受者的複合角色(composite role),但是只有感受者參與詞彙照映(lexical mapping)。論文最後一部份為“一本書寫了他三年”此類句子進行詞彙照映(lexical mapping),本篇論文參照Zaenen (1993)的混合解釋方法(mixed account)以及Her (1999, 2003, 2007)的統一映照理論(unified mapping principle)成功的解釋了此類句子的論元體現(argument realization) 。 / Extent (Dowty, 1991; Her, 2009) is also referred to as Range (Halliday, 1964; Teng, 1975) or Domain (Huang 1993). It is a less studied yet commonly seen thematic role in Mandarin Chinese. This thesis aims to investigate the thematic role Extent in Mandarin Chinese, and to propose an explanation for the sentence where the verb has three arguments as Theme, Experiencer and Extent, such as yi4ben3 shu1 xie3le5 ta1 san1 nian2 ‘It took him three years to write a book’. In the first part, this thesis explores the thematic role Extent in Mandarin Chinese, and it is proposed that number expression and duration be considered as Extent. Then, the sentences having three arguments such as in the sentence yi4ben3 shu1 xie3le5 ta1 san1 nian2 ‘It took him three years to write a book’ are investigated. It is proposed that activity verb and accomplishment verb model the syntactic behavior of psych verb so that they can have Theme in the subject position and Experiencer and Extent as two complements. Since the activity verb xie3 ‘write’ models the psych verb and the sentence structure focuses on the [affected] feature of the object, the Agent ta1 ‘he’ becomes a composite role of Agent and Experiencer, but only the Experiencer can participate in the lexical mapping. In the last part of the thesis, the lexical mapping of the sentence yi4ben3 shu1 xie3le5 ta1 san1 nian2 ‘It took him three years to write a book’ is demonstrated. This thesis adopts Zaenen’s (1993) mixed account and Her’s (1999, 2003, 2007) unified mapping principle (UMP) to successfully account for the argument realization of the sentence.

本論文旨在描述並嘗試以優選詞彙功能語法理論(OT-LMT)處理雅美語的論旨角色與語法功能的連結。雅美語的論旨角色與語法功能連結呈現出作格語言的特性,以致跟中文或英文有很大的差別。並且雅美語的連結又受到了焦點系統的影響,所以更加的複雜。現存的連結理論無論是以變換語法理論為基礎或以詞彙語法為基礎的,似乎都無法很直接簡潔的描述雅美語。本論文嘗試架構一個以優選理論為基礎的新連結模型,並且除了將之使用在雅美語上之外,也同時以這個新的模型來處理中文和英文中的連結。由於優選理論具有彈性的特性,這三種語言不同的連結模式,都可以被包含在這個新的模型當中。 / This thesis studies the problem of argument-function linking in Yami and makes the fundamental claim that linking in Yami shows an ergative pattern, quite different from that in accusative languages, such as Mandarin and English. The linking phenomenon in Yami is complicated by its special voice system. Existing linking theories do not account for Yami straightforwardly. In trying to find a framework that can handle the Yami data, we find the flexibility of Optimality Theory a promising solution. The first part of this thesis is a description of the argument-function linking pattern in Yami and the proper place of the voice system is also discussed. And then we review several grammatical theories on linking. Both transformation-based theories and lexicalist theories are examined. We will demonstrate how these theories fail to account for linking in Yami in a straightforward manner. Thus we provide an optimality-theoretic account based on the lexical mapping theory of Lexical-Functional Grammar. This newly developed framework is applied not only to the Yami data but also to the relevant Mandarin and English data. It is claimed that this framework can accommodate all three different languages.

「意」的多義現象研究:以語料庫為本 / A Corpus-based Semantic Analysis of Mandarin Polysemy /Yi4/

本研究以「意」的雙字詞彙為主要研究範圍,由詞彙內部結構及上下文切入以釐清「意」的多義現象。前人關於「意」的多義現象討論不多,僅有歷時的探源研究、與內在身體部位「心」的比較以及心理學認識活動的相關論述,至今尚未有關於「意」之共時性語料庫研究。於彙整《中文詞彙網路2.0》與《教育部重編國語辭典修訂本》中「意」的義項,並清楚制定「認知」、「情感」、「意志」三個語意類別後,本研究分析了《中央研究院現代漢語平衡語料庫4.0》一千萬詞條版本中的相關語料。研究結果包含了兩個面向的討論:「意」的詞彙內部結構和語意分佈之間的關係以及「意」的意象圖式。 首先,研究發現「意」在構詞上屬於名詞性黏著詞根詞素,可同時作為詞在句子中自由移動的情形不多;「意」在語意上則屬於「心理集合名詞」,而心理集合名詞為一多義詞素,詞彙語意的完整有賴其共現成分。其次,「*意」結構的詞類包含了名詞、狀態動詞、動作動詞、副詞四種詞類,而「意*」結構僅包含名詞、狀態動詞、動作動詞三種。其中,「*意」的構詞能力較「意*」強,語意分佈上則皆以「意志」類為主。 最後,從雙音詞的上下文中發掘了「意」的三條刺激反應路徑,統整出「意」的意象圖式,得知「意」的雙字詞多用於「報導」方面。若刺激類別為「文章/話語」或「外在景色」通常由「當局經驗者」報導概念內涵或刺激為其帶來之感覺,若刺激類別為「人際客體」則通常由「旁觀經驗者」報導當局經驗者理解概念之過程、心理狀態或意志狀態。華語教師在講解「意」之詞彙時,可透過解釋其共現成分之詞意為學生建立語意類別的概念,亦可運用刺激類別及報導的方式讓學生知道「意」的雙音詞使用上的差別。 關鍵字: 「意」、多義名詞、詞彙內部結構、意象圖式、中研院現代漢語平衡語料庫 / Key word: Yi4,polysemy, word component structure, image schema, Mandarin Corpus This thesis reports the polysemous usage of the disyllabic words containing Yi4 ‘meaning’ with the emphasis on their internal structure and co-text. Previous studies on Mandarin polysemy Yi4 mostly focused on the classic manuscripts, the comparison between Xin1 ‘heart’ and Yi4 ‘meaning’, or the philosophical system of knowing. However, none of them was based on real texts from the corpus. Based on the senses taken from the Chinese Wordnet 2.0 and the Revised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary, we categorized the usage of Yi4 as FEELING, COGNITION and INTENTION. Using these as the criteria, we analyzed the data from the Sinica Corpus 4.0. The results were discussed based on two aspects, the interrelationship between the internal structures and meaning distribution, and the image schema of Yi4. For the internal structures, we discovered that Yi4 serves not only as a bound-root morpheme at the syntactical level but also as a semantically polysemous psycho-collection morpheme which needs the co-occurred morpheme to fulfill its word meaning. We also found that most instances in both ‘X+Yi4’ and ‘Yi4+X’ structures belong to INTENTION, and these include nouns, action verbs, and stative verbs. However, only the ‘X+Yi4’ structure, with its stronger word-forming ability, contains adverbial use. In addition to internal structures, for the analysis of co-texts, we came up with the image schema of Yi4 which contains three stimulus-response routes. If the stimulus is article/speech/scenery, Yi4 tends to have a direct experiencer conducting a first-hand report about his/her feeling. If the stimulus comes from a human body, Yi4 prefers having an indirect experiencer conducting a second-hand report about the direct experiencer’s emotion, cognitive process or willing. Finally, this thesis also offers some pedagogical suggestions and application based on the findings.

認知情態義與主觀化之浮現:臺灣客語評注性情態副詞的認知語用觀點研究 / The Emergence of Epistemicity and Subjectification: A Cognitive-Pragmatic Approach of Modality Disjuncts in Taiwan Hakka

本論文依據現代客語語料庫,探討臺灣客語評注性情態副詞在語法化、詞彙化以及語用化運作之下的發展過程,以及情態與語言演變機制之間的關係。藉由三個知識性情態詞,本文對於評注性情態副詞之分佈、語義和句法特徵進行詳細的描述。藉由檢視其構式結構以及運用相關測試,證實評注性情態副詞不但遵守副詞修飾範域:話語行為副詞 > 情態副詞 (評論副詞 > 知識性情態副詞) > 附加副詞,也同樣依循情態詞之階層分佈:知識性情態詞 > 義務性情態詞 > 動力性情態詞。在他們所處之語意語境以及語用語境影響之下,語用推論的產生導引出重新分析,此轉喻強化現象,致使評注性情態副詞在階段發展中經歷了語法及語意之轉變。在語言使用之溝通目的下,評注性情態副詞透過語境誘發之重新解釋形成了歧義現象,並進一步固定化為獨立之語意。綜言之,奠基於臺灣客語語料庫之實際語料,本文提供了對評注性情態副詞全面的深入探索。研究結果具有兩項主要貢獻:將語法化,詞彙化和語用化的理論框架納入臺灣客語情態副詞之分析;並藉由語言實證展示情態與主觀性之間相互關係之理論模式。 / This dissertation takes a corpus-based approach in an attempt to explain the development of Taiwan Hakka modality disjuncts with epistemic interpretation on the theoretical ground of the mechanisms of linguistic change, including grammaticalization, lexicalization, and pragmaticalization. The main focus of this research is on the interaction between modality and the three mechanisms. A fine-grained analysis is provided to examine the morphological characteristics and syntactic structures of epistemic and evaluative modality disjuncts, exemplified by three cases in Taiwan Hakka. Several constructions and tests are manipulated to figure out the scope of modal disjuncts, which warrant the postulation of the scope hierarchy of illocutionary disjunct > modality disjunct (evaluative > epistemic) > adjunct, as well as the ranking of epistemic modal > deontic modal > dynamic modal. Thanks to their semantic-pragmatic contexts, the operation of pragmatic inferences lead them into reanalysis, giving rise to grammatical and semantic shift from one stage to the next. Metonymic strengthening is claimed to be the key to motivate such developments. The usage in a context triggers context-induced reinterpretation, resulting in ambiguity. Overall, this dissertation, probing into actual language usages from corpora, proposes a full-fledged analysis on modality disjuncts. The findings feature two significant contributions—an integration of the theoretical frameworks of grammaticalization, lexicalization and pragmaticalization into the analysis of Taiwan Hakka modality disjuncts; and a demonstration of linguistic investigation for the theorization on the relationship between modality and subjectivity.
