Two Argentine Song Sets: A Comparison of Songs by De Rogatis and Ginastera

Latin American classical vocal repertoire is vast, but in the United States, we only hear a fairly limited part of this literature. Much of this repertoire blends western European classical music traditions and native folk music traditions. One example of such a Latin American vocal work that is well-known in the United States is Alberto Ginastera's frequently performed song set from 1943, Cinco canciones populares argentinas. However, another lesser-known, earlier work, Cinco canciones argentinas (1923), by fellow Argentine composer Pascual De Rogatis (1880-1980) deserves attention as well. As with Ginastera's set, De Rogatis' songs are based on Argentine folk genres, but contain stylistic features of European classical music of its time. De Rogatis' neglected songs are a significant, overlooked part of Argentine classical music history, and a full understanding of well-known works such as Ginastera's song set and of the genre as a whole, must include attention to De Rogatis' Cinco canciones argentinas. Beyond vocal repertoire, De Rogatis' songs are an important part of the development of Argentine classical music. While Western musical trends change rapidly, folk music remains largely unchanged. Both De Rogatis and Ginastera were proud of their Argentine heritage, and incorporated traditional music into their compositions. I believe that De Rogatis's composition had a direct influence on Ginastera, and that the similarities between the two sets are not coincidental.

Ce mémoire en création littéraire est divisé en deux parties distinctes. La première se compose de deux récits racontant un épisode de la vie d'une mère et de sa fille, Carole et Hélène. L'un des récits est narré par la mère ; l'autre par la fille. Centrés sur ces deux femmes, les récits mettent en lumière quelques bribes de leur passé ainsi que l'influence de celui-ci sur les événements présents. La seconde partie présente une réflexion critique sur le conflit narratif, c'est-à-dire sur les contradictions qui surgissent entre deux ou plusieurs récits portant sur la même histoire. Nous examinerons le fonctionnement de ce type de conflit ainsi que ses conséquences sur le lecteur et sa relation au texte en prenant exemple sur quatre romans : Tandis que j'agonise de William Faulkner, Les Fous de basson d'Anne Hébert, L'enfant de sable de Tahar Ben Jelloun et Océan mer d'Alessandro Baricco.

La chapelle Notre-Dame-De-Lourdes de Montréal : histoire, composition et fonction du décor intérieur

Tableau d’honneur de la Faculté des études supérieures et postdoctorales, 2010-2011 / Cette recherche porte sur le projet de décor mural de la chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes de Montréal réalisé par Napoléon Bourassa (1827-1916) entre 1872 et 1880. Il met en scène le thème de l'Immaculée Conception et sa proclamation dogmatique par le pape en 1854. Nous étudions les éléments qui ont influencé la composition de l'oeuvre : les contextes historique, intellectuel et artistique de production, le texte du décret dogmatique et sa réélaboration par Bourassa. Nous démontrons comment l'artiste a pensé la narrativité du discours, non seulement par la représentation ou l'iconographie, mais aussi par la formulation stylistique et esthétique de l'ensemble des scènes et des figures. Nous procédons à une analyse intégrée de tous les niveaux de lectures du programme afin de comprendre comment la composition et le vocabulaire formel utilisé par Bourassa répondent à ses objectifs intellectuels et à ceux des commanditaires du projet.

L'espoir est dans les arbres : suivi de Le mythème de l'illumination : lumière dans les ténèbres

La première partie de cette thèse est constituée d'un récit intitulé L'espoir est dans les arbres. Le protagoniste de ce récit se remémore peu à peu qu'il a été agressé alors qu'il était enfant. C'est le récit de la réappropriation de sa mémoire ainsi que des fantasmes que cette mémoire peut générer. Le héros est profondément ébranlé dans sa vie personnelle et professionnelle et commence, pour lui-même, une quête de la vérité. Il entre dans un monde symbolique à la suite d'une renaissance et déchiffre des signes qui lui sont adressés dans son univers quotidien. Son équilibre mental est menacé. À la rencontre de sa mère sur le chemin de Valleyfield, il expérimente une illumination et le secret de l'agression qu'il a vécu lui est révélé par étapes initiatiques en retournant sur les lieux de l'agression où il crie sa douleur dans les arbres. Ce récit est celui de sa quête, de ses douleurs, de ses peurs et de l'émergence de la partie de lui-même qui se terrait dans son inconscient. Il découvrira que le plus important est son présent. L'espoir est donc permis. La deuxième partie de la thèse, intitulée Le mythème de l'illumination : lumière dans les ténèbres, est articulée en trois chapitres. Le premier, "Sources sacrées du mythème de l'illumination", s'intéresse aux différentes conceptions de l'illumination dans plusieurs religions et, particulièrement, par une analyse symbolique, au mythème biblique de l'illumination de saint Paul. Le deuxième chapitre, "Les illuminations québécoises", fort de cette recherche préalable, s'intéresse à la présence d'éléments du mythème de l'Illumination dans des textes de trois auteurs québécois : Jacques Ferron, Anne Hébert et Victor-Lévy Beaulieu. Le troisième chapitre, plus personnel, "Le mythème de l'Illumination à l'oeuvre", étudie a posteriori la corrélation entre le processus d'individuation de Cari Gustav Jung avec la structuration du récit L'espoir est dans les arbres, tout en retraçant le cheminement de son écriture. La conclusion met en relief la nature profondément eschatologique de la leçon du mythème littéraire de l'Illumination.

本論文全部一冊,共計十六萬字,分五章十三節。 本文主旨在探討中國自光緒二十四年至民國五年間(即公元一八九八年∼一九一六年 ),有關憲政之思想,及有關該思想的演化進步的情形。 首章為緒論,就本文的研究範圍,相關的概念先作界定,並就研究方法及架構作一說 明,以為底下各章的準備。 第二章由清末憲政思想的源起,即萌芽及茁長論起,此為清末民初憲攻思想的第一階 段。此後憲政思想即發展為兩股不同的憲政救國論,一股是以康有為、梁啟超為首的 君主立憲論,另一股乃是以 孫中山先生為首的共和立憲論。前者主張改革,後者主 張革命,此為本章第二及第三節所論述。 第三章探討君主立憲思想的演進過程,由第一節興起的原因背景論起,進而在第二節 說明此股思想的主張內容,亦即其成熟時期的思想。第三節說明思想成熟後所採取的 具體措施。第四節探討該股思想在高潮後的衰退現象。即以興趣-成熟-具體化-衰 退的階段論,為研究架構。 第四章探討共和立憲思想的演進過程,亦以興起-成熟-具體化-受阻的階段論為架 構。第一節說明興起的原因背景。第二節探討思想的主張內容,即成熟後之思想。第 三節探討此股思想所形成的具體措施,第四節採討該股思想所受的阻礙,以致不能順 利實行的現象。 第五章結論,綜合以上各章所論,期能對清末民初這段期間,憲政思想的演進方向與 模式,以社會變遷與政治發展的理論,作一明確的歸類,以作為理想憲政演進的參考 。並指出較理想的憲政演進型態。

To this end, a social approach in the history of psychology was used seeking to place people and facts in a general context once history is inserted in a certain time and place. Three figures considered pioneers in this field in the country were identified Nise da Silveira, Pethö Sándor and Leon Bonaventure whose personal and professional paths are addressed. At the same time, also noted, are the possible related broader events and situations that may be related to their being responsible for their role as pioneers. In mapping the contributions made by these professionals in the field of analytical psychology, one perceives the development of a creative work not limited to the dissemination of Carl Gustav Jung s concepts, but to the proposition of their own methods and techniques. Furthermore, particularly in the work of the two first pioneers researched, one observes the collaboration toward the birth of a Brazilian analytical psychology. / O objetivo deste trabalho é o estudo da constituição da psicologia analítica no Brasil. Para esse fim, utilizou-se a abordagem social em história da psicologia buscando situar personagens e fatos no contexto geral, na medida em que se entende que a história está inserida em determinado tempo e lugar. Foram identificados três personagens considerados pioneiros da disciplina no país Nise da Silveira, Pethö Sándor e Leon Bonaventure, cujos percursos pessoais e profissionais são abordados, ao mesmo tempo em que são apontados eventos e situações mais amplos que podem estar relacionadas ao processo que levou tais pessoas a assumirem o papel de pioneiros. Ao mapear-se a contribuição desses profissionais, para o campo da psicologia analítica, percebe-se o desenvolvimento de um trabalho criativo que não se limita à disseminação, no país, dos conceitos de Carl Gustav Jung, propondo métodos e técnicas próprias. Além disso, particularmente na obra dos dois primeiros pioneiros pesquisados, observa-se a colaboração para a constituição de uma psicologia analítica brasileira.

Thompson was concerned about Physics and Radiology, however, at the dawn of the new century, his interests in technical education had also burgeoned. One of his goals was to demystify Calculus, tackling the subject intuitively Calculus Made Easy. The book did not draw much respect from mathematicians and was acridly criticized / Com o intuito de estudar a história do ensino de Cálculo e, mais especificamente, os desdobramentos do livro Calculus Made Easy (1910) no contexto da educação matemática, este trabalho procura fazer uma análise histórica que elucide as relações entre Silvanus Phillips Thompson (autor do livro) e a educação do início do século XX, particularmente a educação matemática. Thompson legou muito às áreas da física e da radiologia, porém, com a chegada do novo século, passou a se dedicar intensamente à educação técnica de seus compatriotas ingleses. Tal dedicação, aliada a preocupações políticas e sociais da época, foi crucial para a publicação do seu texto didático mais polêmico: o Calculus Made Easy (1910). A polêmica estava atrelada às discussões sobre o rigor e a intuição no ensino de matemática, visto que o didático tratava dos conceitos fundamentais do Cálculo de maneira intuitiva e com aplicações. Apesar das críticas e do repúdio dos matemáticos da época, Thompson granjeou a admiração e o respeito de muitos alunos de Cálculo durante o século XX. Since then the approach proposed by Information Theory has influenced other areas of knowledge and there were many attempts of integrating it with physical theories. The analysis on Information Theory main authors works viewed under a historical outlook, added to the analysis of proposals for its integration with Physics will allow to demonstrate that the integration is currently at the level of approach to physical problems and not at a more fundamental level as it was some scientists expectation / Esta dissertação tem por objetivo investigar as origens do conceito de Entropia formulado por Claude Shannon no desenvolvimento da Teoria da Informação, bem como as influências que este e outros conceitos da mesma teoria tiveram em outras ciências, em especial a Física. Partindo de sua origem na Mecânica Estatística, o conceito de Entropia foi transformado numa medida de quantidade de informação por Shannon. Desde então, a abordagem proposta pela Teoria da Informação influenciou outras áreas do conhecimento, e ocorreram várias tentativas de integrá-la às teorias físicas. A análise das obras dos principais formuladores da Teoria da Informação, colocadas em seu contexto histórico, aliada à análise das propostas de integração desta teoria com a Física permitirá demonstrar que a interação atual entre as áreas ainda se dá ao nível de abordagem dos problemas físicos, e não numa forma mais fundamental como era a expectativa de alguns cientistas
