Divadlo utlačovaných jako cesta k empowermentu / The Theatre of the Oppressed as a way to the Empowerment

Pejřimovská, Hana January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to find out how the participants of the Theatre of the Oppressed become empowered and how they use these experiences from the Theatre in other spheres of life. The research is based on a qualitative method and semi-structured interviews with open coding. The sample consists of Roma and non-Roma respondents. The results show that the necessary prerequisites for empowerment include meetings and dialogues with others, games and interventions, sharing of experiences and active work against oppression. In other dimensions of life, we can see personal empowerment manifest itself by higher self-confidence, advanced communication skills and responsible citizenship. In the professional sphere empowerment is presented in a work with a group, in a current job or in an involvement in new projects. For a civil society to thrive it is important that people from the majority society meet and work together with members of the minority groups. It is also essential to promote civil competences and social capital, meet with strongly engaged activists, open discussions in the public sphere and support the principle of taking responsibility for one's life and the life of the community. Key words: Theatre of the Oppressed, empowerment, active work against oppression, Roma and non-Roma people,...

Active Citizenship and Ethnic Associational Networks in the Multi-ethnic Neighborhoods of Holma and Kroksbäck: Policy Strategies and Barriers to Foster Social Capital

Spielhaupter, Alex January 2013 (has links)
Social sustainability and sustainable communities are strongly linked to the concepts of social cohesion and social capital. Social capital arises through social networks, active citizenship, community volunteerism and taking part in social networks, which may be family, friends or associations. Through a high level of social capital, social cohesion can be fostered in communities. This is the aim of current urban policies, as cities nowadays struggle with high degrees of social segregation, fragmentation and polarisation. In an urban context these problems become visible through deprived neighborhoods, which are physically and socially isolated from the urban core. This phenomenon often goes hand in hand with ethnic segregation. These problems also emerge in Scandinavian cities, like the city of Malmö in southern Sweden. This paper will thus show what kind of policies are undertaken by the municipality to face social exclusion and to support active citizenship in the neighborhoods. This will be demonstrated with the aid of the case of the neighborhoods of Holma and Kroksbäck in the southern fringe of Malmö. In these neighborhoods, dominated by immigrants from the Middle East, former Yugoslavia and Albania, the level of trust is low and social capital is eroded. Ethnic associations thereby play an important role as the voice of local residents in collaboration with the municipality. Some examples of successfully facilitated actions by citizens’ participation in urban development by local residents- and barriers which occur will be analyzed.

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of a cross-curricular subject Civic Education for Democracy. The aim of the thesis is to introduce the significance of education for active citizenship and to create a project that helps pupils to see themselves as an active member of their community. The theoretical section consists of three parts. The first part introduces a project-based learning approach, its significance, principles and historical context. The second part summarizes the fundamental features of the current form of the cross-curricular subject according to the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education. The last part deals with education for active citizenship and its value. In this part there are two modern reviewed curriculums introduced, which may bring some new impulses to a new conception of the Czech cross-curricular subject Civic Education for Democracy. In the practical section design and realization of the project are described. The aim of the project is to help pupils to see themselves as an active member of their community who is attentive to his/her surroundings and who is able to have an impact in the society where he/she lives. The project is designed in such fashion so it could be adaptable to different kinds of subjects and groups of students. The next part of the...

Les migrants, acteurs transnationaux du développement : Les associations haïtiennes en France et jamaïcaines au Royaume-Uni / Migrants as Transnational Actors of Development : Haitian Associations in France and Jamaican Associations in the United Kingdom

Eybalin Casseus, Clara Rachel 02 December 2013 (has links)
In a context where the growing importance of the globalization of migratory flows from the Caribbean region is intensifying and diversifying, a detailed attention on the evolution of migrants' strategies within host societies as well as their socioeconomic and political impact on the origin societies is required. Our thesis in three parts inscribes itself in a reflection on long-distance associative engagement of the Haitian and Jamaican migrant-actor, in a French institutional framework as well as a British one. At the heart of a model between local officials of the country of origin and elected officials of the host society, how can it act in an incentive capacity to foster or to better coordinate the actions taken by migrants' associations? How can a transnational associative framework be beneficiary to the development in the Haitian/Jamaican context? In considering the emergence and evolution of the Haitian associative landscape (France) and Jamaican (the United Kingdom), we wanted to understand the motivations behind the long-distance commitment to bring about development projects in the country of origin. Our fieldwork as well as our methodological approach in a multi-sited terrain helped us better grasp some of the mechanisms of bounded solidarity and of shared resources.Starting from an observed fact, an associative dynamic, which grew significantly in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti in January 2010, our study highlights three key elements: the relevance of the sense of belonging of migrants associations, the paramount importance of the relationship between the origin State and the its citizens abroad, and the growing, diverse and complex evolution

This study aims to characterize the social control in the National Program of School Feeding - NPSF, exercised by the Board of School Food - BSF, in a perspective of active citizenship. Institutionalized Social Control is the participation of representatives from segments of the organized civil society, in the popular councils, in the social control of services and public policies. The study tried to investigate the challenge of the exercise of popular participation into the autonomous social control, from the perspective of active citizenship related to the emancipation. Adopting a quali-quanti approach, Councils were selected to investigation in an explanatory character, that operate in the control of the policy of school feeding in centralized, decentralized and semi-centralized management models. Methodological procedures were deployed on two axes - the first one approaches the social control in the legal area, using articles of laws and regulatory norms of the model: Federal Constitution, 1988, Law of Directives and Bases of Education, 1996, Master Plan for Reforming the State Apparatus, 1995, National Education Plan, 2001, Specific Regulatory Standards of the National School Feeding Program: Law No. 11947, 2009 and Resolution No. 038, 2009; the second axe tried to investigate social control in the institutional area, combining documental analysis with the investigation of councils in the practice of social control. Therefore, questionnaires were applied to counselors and interviews were realized with the managers. The data were recorded in tables and spreadsheets EXCEL system, using the resources of content analysis for the analysis of qualitative data. The results suggest that, in the formal area, the model meets the active citizenship principles, but the results also show inconsistency in the structure, outlining attributions of social control focused on fiscal function. The model establishes a relationship of dependency counselorsmanagers, which promotes the bundling of Councils to the Local Authority, delimiting the spectrum of the autonomy of the counselors. The results suggest changes in model structure and the elaboration of an Orientation Program involving the permanent education for council members. / TEDE / BV UNIFESP: Teses e dissertações

Private Refugee Sponsorship Groups as Sites of Adult Learning

Ohlsson, Katarina January 2017 (has links)
Canada’s response to the Syrian refugee crisis includes a unique program where private citizens can raise funds to sponsor a refugee family. This private refugee sponsorship program tasks citizens with both the financial and social aspects of a refugee’s integration for their first year in Canada. The success of the program has led many other countries, particularly in Europe, to consider adopting a similar approach. Although there has been an increased interest in the program, there is a lack of research into the sponsorship experience. This study aims to provide further insight into the sponsorship experience by studying whether it includes an element of learning for the sponsors. This was done by conducting in-depth interviews and analyzing them based on situated learning theory and placing the results in the context of previous research done on sponsors in Canada during the Kosovo crisis. The principle findings of this study show that private refugee sponsorship groups are indeed sites of adult learning for the sponsors. However, the degree to which this is the case differs depending on how sponsorship groups are positioned vis-à-vis the refugee family and the professional settlement community.

Občanská participace seniorů v kontextu Univerzity třetího věku / Civic participation of older people in the context of the University of the Third Age

Biláková, Kristýna January 2015 (has links)
The thesis "Civic participation of older people in the context of the University of the Third Age" focuses on the role of civic participation in the lives of active older people who attend the University of the Third Age. This role is examined in the context of adult education, specifically through a leisure education program, which is dedicated to educating older people, i.e. the University of the Third Age. From a demographic perspective, the elderly population will continue to grow. This will be unavoidably reflected in the development of civil society in which older people participate. This makes it relevant to pay older people as an active group more research attention. Qualitative data were collected via in-depth interviews. Attention was paid namely to the interviewees' attitudes to and experience of civic participation they have accumulated over their life course. The analysed respondents' accounts indicate that they understand participation as activities related to politics and as politically oriented activities. They attach the greatest importance to political participation. Formal participation also occurs, but the respondents do not stress this participation as they rather take it for granted.

Ženy migrantky jako aktivní občanky / Migrant women as active citizens

Jenková, Pavla January 2015 (has links)
Diploma thesis tries to offer a new insight into migration and integration of migrant women living in Czech Republic by means of life-story telling of ten such women. By using this approach the author tries to deconstruct stereotypical understanding of migration as a threat or a security hazard for the accepting society, on the contrary she tries to picture migrant women and their life-stories as tales of people who consider Czech Republic their second home and who actively participate on its development. Citizenship is understood as a membership in society of which migrant women are also legitimate and active members. The thesis should contribute to building positive attitude towards migrant women in general and it also offers recommendations for the public as well as integration policy creators as to how migrant women can be reflected in context of migration.
