Anaïs Nin's Diary and her fiction have been lauded by critics for their imagery, Freudian allusions, and creativity. What has not been considered, and is equally important, is her Erotica series, Delta of Venus and Little Birds. These books, her most popular, not only address the issues that she covers in her other works, but also ask questions about how humans are gendered, and consider the degree to which individuals construct their own gender identities. In exploring these questions, she presages not only the theorists who effectively deconstruct her message, but also the gender-bending society which inspired them. Queer theory is particularly effective for considering the sexual messages with which Nin populates her writings. Much as Judith Butler de-emphasizes totalizing gender roles, Nin allows her characters to occupy multiple gender roles. Thus, Nin's female protagonists often take on the sexual positions generally granted to men in American society. Conversely, her male characters are often relegated to less-empowered roles. Although these shifts might not seem particularly impressive in our more liberated society, they were undoubtedly surprising in Nin's day. Moreover, it is impressive that these role-reversing characters were created over forty years before the advent of queer theory, and long before the popular rise of the Feminist movement. / Master of Arts

Este trabalho apresenta a tradução dos fragmentos supérstites do poema épico Anais de Quinto Ênio (239 ca. 169 a. C.). Uma seção introdutória trata de discutir o que se sabe sobre o poeta, partindo das citações dos autores antigos que a ele se referiram. Faz ainda parte dessa seção inicial um estudo sobre os Anais, observando o poema segundo as visões dos antigos e também de acordo com o que é hoje, na forma fragmentária em que chegou a nós, cujo elemento unificador se centra no trabalho filológico de críticos de todo o mundo. O cerne do trabalho consiste na tradução e anotação dos 420 fragmentos tomados à edição italiana de Valmaggi (1945). Os comentários se baseiam sobretudo nas reflexões de Skutsch (1985), Steuart (1976), Warmington (1988) e Vahlen (1967), partindo da contextualização de cada fragmento, assinalando o tema a que esteja ligado e, por conseguinte, explicando por que tal fragmento foi incluído no canto de que faz parte. Em seguida, ocupamo-nos de analisar o fragmento, ressaltando motivações estilísticas e empregos lingüísticos, em busca do significado do texto-fragmento, o que se faz com o uso de recursos diversos, como o auxílio de diferentes dicionários, a comparação da mesma palavra em distintos fragmentos dos Anais ou de outras obras enianas, ou ainda o estudo do emprego de uma palavra em contextos semelhantes de outros autores, ou em diferentes contextos de autores contemporâneos de Ênio. / This thesis presents the translation of the remaining fragments of the epic poem Annals by Quintus Ennius (239ca. 169 BC). An introductory section discusses what is known about the poet, taking the ancient authors quotes that refer to him as a starting-point. In this initial section a study on the Annals is also included; it observes the poem according to the ancients point of view and to what it is today, in the fragmentary form in which it has come down to us, the philological work of critics from all over the world being its unifying element. The kernel of this text consists of the translation and commentary of the 420 fragments taken from the Italian edition of Valmaggi (1945). The comments are based primarily on the contributions of Skutsch (1985), Steuart (1876), Warmington (1988) and Vahlen (1967), and the contextualization given to each fragment, since such procedure aids and enables my search for the theme it is connected with and thus explains why each fragment was included in the book it is part of. I then analize the fragments one by one, mark its stylistic motivations and linguistic uses, and search for the meaning of each text-fragment, which is done through diverse resources, such as the help of different dictionaries, word comparison in distinct fragments either of the Annals or other Ennius works, and the study of a words usage in similar contexts found in other authors, and in different contexts of Ennius contemporary authors.

Em oposição a esta perspectiva, foi verificado, por meio da análise das formações discursivas, um tratamento periférico em relação à epistemologia sendo retomado exaustivamente a questão da interdisciplinaridade que incide sobre a área. Além disso, foi possível verificar a importância das Instituições enquanto instâncias de validação científica dando destaque para os canais de comunicação formais; os periódicos analisados, enquanto elementos que promoviam o encontro entre as formações discursivas da área. O tratamento periférico em relação à epistemologia pode ser explicado pela institucionalização recente da Ciência da Informação no Brasil e acredita-se que para que este tratamento seja central é fundamental investigar uma outra camada da comunicação científica sendo este o tema central da proposta desse novo estudo, partindo da problemática de que os anais de eventos representam um nível de formalidade equivalente ao dos periódicos científicos na medida em que ambos canais de comunicação tem se institucionalizado formalmente através de sociedades científicas ao redor do mundo nos últimos 20 anos em nível internacional e nacional. Para tanto acredita-se ser viável um olhar discursivo verticalizado que situe como a perspectiva epistemológica vem sendo tratada. Ou seja: Como tem sido delineada a institucionalização cognitiva e social da área no Brasil? Para responder esta questão elenca-se como prioridade a busca por elementos que tornem possível o delineamento do percurso discursivo trilhado pela Ciência da Informação a partir da análise discursiva dos anais do GT 1 do ENANCIB sobre os estudos históricos e epistemológicos da área em nível de pós graduação. Acredita-se que a institucionalização cognitiva e social tem o poder de ressaltar a opacidade da institucionalização científica, sendo esta última responsável e refém de suas próprias enunciações. / Based on the considerations of the work "O percurso discursivo da Ciência da Informação no Brasil: Uma análise discursiva a partir dos periódicos "Ciência da Informação" e "Revista da Escola de Biblioteconomia da UFMG," it is possible to state that the period in which the analysis was conducted (the 1970s) was marked as a time that was seeking founding elements in the epistemological consolidation of the area. In opposition to this perspective, it was found through the analysis of discursive formations a peripheral treatment in relation to epistemology that focuses on the question of interdisciplinarity, that affects the area. In addition, it was possible to observe the importance of institutions as instances of scientific validation and especially the formal channels of communication: the studied periodicals as elements that promoted the interaction between the discursive formations of the area. The peripheral treatment in relation to epistemology can be explained by the recent institutionalization of Information Science in Brazil, and it is believed that this treatment is essential to investigate another layer of scientific communication which is the central theme of the purpose of this new study, based on the issue of conference proceedings representing a level of formality equivalent to academic journals inasmuch both communication channels have been formally institutionalized through scientific societies around the world over the last 20 years at international and national levels. Thus, it is believed to be a viable to take a deep discursive look to analyze how epistemological perspective is being treated. In other words: How has the cognitive and social institutionalization of the area in Brazil been outlined? To answer this question, has as overall objective the search for elements that make the design of the discursive formations in Information Science possible based on the discursive analysis of the GT1 ENANCIB proceedings regarding the historical and epistemological studies of the area at a postgraduate level. I believe that cognitive and social institutionalization have the power to highlight the opacity of scientific institutionalization, the latter being responsible and subject to its own utterances.

Barnes's Vagaries Malicieux, and Nin's Delta of Venus, are examples the developing vision of female sex, and both authors use their literary techniques to accomplish their aesthetic vision of amorality. Nin's visions are based on her and her friends' extreme experiences. Her primary concern was expressing her erotic and amorally aesthetic gaze, and the results of her efforts are found in her aesthetic vision of Paris and the amoral lifestyle. Barnes uses metaphor and linguistics to fashion her aesthetic vision. Her technique in "Run, Girls, Run!" both subverts any sense of morality, and offers an interesting and challenging read for its audience. In "Vagaries Malicieux" Barnes's Paris is dark while bright, and creates a sense of nothingness, indicated only by Barnes's aesthetic appreciation.

However, this universe is composed from elements that cause discomfort, not just pragmatic, but theoretical. This dissertation aims to enter this obscure and marginal field. So, considering the eroticism as part of the text s structure and also a representation of a social and individual phenomenon, it was analyzed the Erotica of Ana?s Nin. For this, the approach was based on the philosophical conception of Bataille, with an intersection of the concepts of body (Le Breton) and sexuality (Foucault). After, it was made a brief introduction of the eroticism in literature, in order to legitimize and consolidate the erotic literary tradition, in which is inserted the writer Ana?s Nin. Finally, the literary corpus is compound by tales of the collections Delta of Venus and Little birds, and it was analyzed from the theoretical framework developed with the thinkers above cited. / O erotismo sempre esteve presente na cultura escrita, uma vez que, sendo um elemento essencial da condi??o humana, manifesta-se mesmo na sua aus?ncia. Contudo, esse universo ? constru?do a partir de elementos que geram um desconforto, n?o apenas pragm?tico, mas te?rico. Nessa perspectiva, esta disserta??o tenciona adentrar esse campo ainda t?o obscuro e marginal. Considerando o erotismo tanto como parte da tessitura textual de uma obra liter?ria, quanto como representa??o de um fen?meno social e pessoal, objetivou-se analisar a constru??o do erotismo na literatura er?tica de Ana?s Nin. Para isso, o erotismo foi abordado atrav?s da concep??o filos?fica de Georges Bataille, em uma intersec??o com os conceitos de corpo (David Le Breton) e sexualidade (Michel Foucault). No segundo momento, realizou-se uma breve introdu??o da presen?a do erotismo na literatura, com objetivo de legitimar e consolidar a exist?ncia de uma tradi??o liter?ria er?tica, na qual se insere a escritora Ana?s Nin.
