Mulheres no pop, no espaço e na tecnologia: reflexões sobre gênero e ciência, e o videoclipe como ferramenta na difusão científica / Women in pop, space, and technology: reflections on gender and science, and video clips as tools in scientific diffusion

Pupo, Stella Cêntola 09 November 2018 (has links)
This dissertation consists in the analysis of women\'s representation in music videos of pop music with themes related to science fiction, based on the theoretical substrate of discourse analysis and Greimas semiotics. From the video clips were carried out activities of scientific dissemination aimed at pre-adolescents of a Center for Children and Adolescents, located in Jardim Keralux, in the city of São Paulo. These activities sought to highlight the figure of women in media products that are related to science, using, in addition to the video clip, some science fiction comic book characters and television series. The 5 activities developed with the pre-adolescents prioritized the playful and the dialogue, having as a guiding methodology the action research, a process that closely links theory and practice. In addition to the analysis of video clips and activities, theoretical discussions on science, scientific dissemination, women and science, and the relationships between media, science and technology, which directly and indirectly affect women, are present. Reflections and practical activities have demonstrated the importance of developing a critical perspective on the media and science and technology, and that media products can be a good way of introducing subjects of interest, acting as a tool capable of attracting the attention of the pre-adolescents. It was possible to perceive that the activities worked as a kind of diagnosis about pre-adolescents, such as what they think about women, about science, the neighborhood in which they live, the school in which they study, what they like to do and how they behave in a group, in addition to approaching them to the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities of the University of São Paulo

Supramolecular assemblies with organophosphorated based derivatives for potential applications in optoelectronics / Assemblages supramoléculaires à base de dérivés organophosphores pour l'optoélectronique

Elsayed Moussa, Mehdi 05 November 2013 (has links)
In this work, we have prepared organophosphorated ligands based copper(I) or gold(I) dimers that act as efficient molecular clips thanks to metallophilic interactions. Firstly, a bimetallic copper(I) complex bearing bis(2-pyridyl)phosphole ligands was used as a molecular clip to organize monotopic cyano-capped pi-systems carrying various pi-conjugated fragments into self-assembled pi-stacked dimers. These dimers organized in the solid state within infinite columnar pi-stacks. Secondly, a bimetallic gold(I) complex bearing a biphosphole ligand was used as a molecular clip to organize ethynyl-capped [6]helicene moieties into self-assembled dimers. These dimers showed an enhancement of the chiroptical properties as compared to the free ethynyl[6]helicene ligand. Thirdly, a bimetallic copper(I) complex bearing 1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm) ligands has revealed a powerful molecular clip to design self-assembled supramolecular architectures by reaction with different cyanometallates. These supramolecular derivatives have different topologies and are emissive in the visible spectrum upon UV excitation and in some cases they showed intriguing thermochromic luminescence properties.

Detekce nepozornosti pilotů / Detection of Pilot Inattention

Novotný, Josef January 2021 (has links)
This master thesis deals with the issue of pilot inattention and proposes a design of a system for detecting inattention of general aviation pilots. Inattention belongs to one of the human-caused errors that currently contribute to the most common causes of aviation accidents. The theoretical part deals with the definition of inattention, compares different aviation categories based on flight rules, and contains a search of detection methods. The practical part of the work deals with the selection of suitable sensors, data collection, and implementation of detection algorithms. In this thesis, two different approaches were chosen. The first implementing machine learning using the RUSBoost classifier, which detects states of attention and distraction. The second approach represents the design of a system for detecting pilot inattention based on a set of rules specified in the CLIPS expert system.

Animated Gamification - the effects of video clips as rewards in a gamified CRM software for B2B sales

Jalgard, Timothy January 2016 (has links)
Gamification is the use of game elements and techniques in non-game environments in order to increase the users’ engagement with a product, brand or task. It is becoming more and more common in professional environments such as education and the workplace. It is still a pretty young field of science and there is much to explore. This research has studied the effects of implementing video clips as rewards in an already gamified CRM software. The study was conducted at a B2B sales consultant agency during a 3 week period where short video clips were implemented as rewards for completing actions in order to measure what effects they might have in the users time spent calling and successfully booked meetings. Data was gathered from the gamified software in order to measure the changes in productivity. Interviews were also conducted to study what effects the video clips had on the users’ motivation and attitude at work. The results point to an increased time spent calling and an increased number of meetings booked. The interview responses also point to a positive change in attitude.

Oligo(3-hexylthiophene) Wires for needs of Single-Molecule Nanoelectronics

Öktem, Gözde 24 August 2017 (has links) (PDF)
A material to function as a molecular electronic device should have a strong coupling with electrodes through appropriate and well-defined anchoring groups and have to support an effective traveling of charges via a conjugated molecular backbone. Oligo(3-hexylthiophene)s are π-conjugated molecules having large applicability in several areas of organic electronics owing interesting semiconducting properties and they also hold great promises in the field of single-molecule electronics. Polymerization methods, in principle, allow construction of long conjugated systems in a single synthetic step, however, most of them lack precision. This work uses externally initiated chain-growth Kumada Catalyst - Transfer Polycondensation (KCTP) for the synthesis of semiconductive oligo(3-hexylthiophene) wires with controllable molecular weights, low polydispersities, high regioregularities as well as with well-defined starting and end groups. In such a way, the synthetic efforts were compromised to obtain relatively easy a series of very complex molecular wires with a reasonable structural precision. To modulate the electronic function of oligomer backbones, specific charge-transfer moieties (DMA-TCBD and Fc-TCBD) were inserted as side chains or end groups. In-situ termination of KCTP with ZnCl-functionalized electron rich alkynes followed by Diederich-type click reaction resulted in the synthesis of asymmetrical oligo(3-hexylthiophene)s having thiolate-functionalized starting groups and donor-functionalized end-groups with a high degree of end-group functionalizations. Side chains of double-thiolate functionalized oligo(3-hexylthiophene)s, on the other hand, were further modified with the insertion of charge-transfer groups by post-polymerization functionalization. While the facile synthesis and modification of oligo(3-hexylthiophene)s enable the control over the molecular backbone, the specific starting and end anchoring groups allow the control over the electrode oligomer interface. To assure the formation of alligator clips between oligomer backbone and Au electrode, the optimizations including proper end-group conversion into mild counterparts followed by in-situ deprotection into thiolates and the binding abilities on gold were investigated. Finally, the conductance of bis-end functionalized oligo(3-hexylthiophene)s was preliminarily studied through oligomer backbone by Mechanically Controllable Break Junctions (MCBJs) setup and through oligomer-attached DNA origami-templated gold nanowires by individual electrical contacts. The developed KCTP-based synthetic route, at the end, presents new opportunities for the facile synthesis, the ease of modification and the feasibility of asymmetrical and side chain functionalized oligo(3-hexylthiophene) wires for needs of molecular electronics.

Aerodynamic Load Characteristics Evaluation and Tri-Axial Performance Testing on Fiber Reinforced Polymer Connections and Metal Fasteners to Promote Hurricane Damage Mitigation

Canino-Vazquez, Iván R. 13 November 2009 (has links)
Damages during extreme wind events highlight the weaknesses of mechanical fasteners at the roof-to-wall connections in residential timber frame buildings. The allowable capacity of the metal fasteners is based on results of unidirectional component testing that do not simulate realistic tri-axial aerodynamic loading effects. The first objective of this research was to simulate hurricane effects and study hurricane-structure interaction at full-scale, facilitating better understanding of the combined impacts of wind, rain, and debris on inter-component connections at spatial and temporal scales. The second objective was to evaluate the performance of a non-intrusive roof-to-wall connection system using fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) materials and compare its load capacity to the capacity of an existing metal fastener under simulated aerodynamic loads. The Wall of Wind (WoW) testing performed using FRP connections on a one-story gable-roof timber structure instrumented with a variety of sensors, was used to create a database on aerodynamic and aero-hydrodynamic loading on roof-to-wall connections tested under several parameters: angles of attack, wind-turbulence content, internal pressure conditions, with and without effects of rain. Based on the aerodynamic loading results obtained from WoW tests, sets of three force components (tri-axial mean loads) were combined into a series of resultant mean forces, which were used to test the FRP and metal connections in the structures laboratory up to failure. A new component testing system and test protocol were developed for testing fasteners under simulated tri-axial loading as opposed to uni-axial loading. The tri-axial and uni-axial test results were compared for hurricane clips. Also, comparison was made between tri-axial load capacity of FRP and metal connections. The research findings demonstrate that the FRP connection is a viable option for use in timber roof-to-wall connection system. Findings also confirm that current testing methods of mechanical fasteners tend to overestimate the actual load capacities of a connector. Additionally, the research also contributes to the development a new testing protocol for fasteners using tri-axial simultaneous loads based on the aerodynamic database obtained from the WoW testing.

Fermelin, Rolly January 2020 (has links)

Hippocampal-Temporopolar Connectivity Contributes to Episodic Simulation During Social Cognition

Pehrs, Corinna, Zaki, Jamil, Taruffi, Liila, Kuchinke, Lars, Koelsch, Stefan 28 September 2018 (has links)
People are better able to empathize with others when they are given information concerning the context driving that person’s experiences. This suggests that people draw on prior memories when empathizing, but the mechanisms underlying this connection remain largely unexplored. The present study investigates how variations in episodic information shape the emotional response towards a movie character. Episodic information is either absent or provided by a written context preceding empathic film clips. It was shown that sad context information increases empathic concern for a movie character. This was tracked by neural activity in the temporal pole (TP) and anterior hippocampus (aHP). Dynamic causal modeling with Bayesian Model Selection has shown that context changes the effective connectivity from left aHP to the right TP. The same crossed-hemispheric coupling was found during rest, when people are left to their own thoughts. We conclude that (i) that the integration of episodic memory also supports the specific case of integrating context into empathic judgments, (ii) the right TP supports emotion processing by integrating episodic memory into empathic inferences, and (iii) lateral integration is a key process for episodic simulation during rest and during task. We propose that a disruption of the mechanism may underlie empathy deficits in clinical conditions, such as autism spectrum disorder.
