This is a case study in which it is carried out an analysis of PIBID-Biology subproject of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), which is part of PIBID UFSCar-institutional project. From an analysis of all documents relating to the implementation of the project at all levels (national, institutional and subproject) as well as the interview with researchers involved in the construction of these projects, we built a description of the processes involving the construction of the national project, as well as the institutional design and, finally, the subproject Biology UFSCar. This first step was the context for understanding, through analysis of reflective portfolios produced by scholars, the dimensions of teaching knowledge built by undergraduates as scholarship students from PIBID. In light of the training teacher references (NÓVOA, 2009; ANDRÉ, 2012, GATTI, BARRETTO & ANDRÉ 2011, Zeichner, 2010, among others), knowledge of the teachers (PEPPER, 2005 Tardif, 2000, 2007) and also Complexity Theory (BONIL & PUJOL, 2008; RIBERAYGUA, 2012; MORIN, 2004, 2005), we realized that, despite the PIBID have characteristics that approach a complex and dynamic model, students have many difficulties in view their performance as part of a complex system that involves not only the classroom but the entire surroundings. We understand that this may occur because not always the PIBID works in coordination with the context , undermining thus functioning as a dynamic and complex system , requiring several adjustments and improvements in this program.

Therefore, relied on three major concepts: A Systems Theory / Complexity Theory, Operations Management and Tourism Planning. Through theoretical discussions, we sought to show that tourism is a complex system and therefore its development needs to be planned. As an alternative to both, we constructed a frame of reference based on six models of pre-existing tourism planning and objectives of Planning, Programming and Production Control (PPPC). The frame of reference proposed contextualizes the goals of PPPCs in the environment of tourism, showing that it is possible to extend the activities of the operations management environments more complex, taking into account new challenges to Production Engineering.

The emergence of oral competence as a dynamic adaptive and complex system in english learning-teaching for beginners

Lesliê Vieira Mulico 20 February 2013 (has links)
In the field of second and foreign language learning, research on oral communication development has been demonstrating that it is a multi-dimensional phenomenon. Nakatani (2010) showed that the ability to use communicative strategies is related to linguistic performance and learners proficiency level; Kang, Rubin and Pickering (2010) affirmed that learners phonology affects perception over proficiency and intelligiblity; Hewitt and Stephenson (2011), as well as Ahmadian (2012), contended that individual psychological conditions interfere in the quality of production. Escribano (2004) suggested that contextual knowledge is essential to conceptualization; Gao (2011) pointed out the benefits of an approach based on conceptual metaphors (LAKOFF and JOHNSON, 1980), dual coding (CLARK and PAIVIO, 1991), and image schemas (LAKOFF, 1987); Ellis and Ferreira-Junior (2009) demonstrated that constructions exhibit priming and recency effects, which influence participants language use. These studies together instantiate the complex nature of L2 acquisition on the experimental psychology paradigm. In the scope of Complexity Theory, Larsen-Freeman (2006) demontrated that fluency, accuracy, and complexity increase over time, despite exhibiting high individual variability. By the same token, Paiva (2011) observed that SLA systems are self-organisable. Nevertheless, none of the above-mentioned studies addressed beginners, as we intend to do herein. By overlapping Complexity Theory and Cognitive Linguistics, we present a case study, with sprinkles of quantification, in order to specifically discuss the adaptation processes that emerged from the oral practice of a group of six English beginner female learners (n=6) in the vocational context. We understand that several complex (sub-) systems co-occur in the classroom, covarying and coadapting in different levels. The investigation counted on transcribed data (ATKINSON and HERITAGE, 1984) from three oral evaluations collected over 28 class hours, in the JOB INTERVIEW domain. After observing the learnersoral production, we created a taxonomy to categorise the adaptations that emerged in target language syntax, meaning, fonology and pragmatics. Later, we displayed the categories in prototype levels (ROSCH et al, 1976) in terms of frequency. Finally, we classified the inteligibility of each learners utterance in three levels. By means of these data, we were able to describe how participants oral expression emerged and evolved over 28 hours. The results reaffirm one of Cognitive Linguistics premises when showing that language description levels work jointly in favor of communicative success; and demonstrate that the teacher, rather than generate uniformity, ought to give rise to learning opportunities that provides a continuum between the world, the body and the mind, as discussed by Larsen-Freeman e Cameron (2008)

Cruz, Marcia Rohr da 19 September 2013 (has links)
Innovation plays importance in business enterprises, comprises different aspects and contributes in different ways to their growth and development. Among the aspects that can be considered for the innovations are the internal aspects related to the context of the organization and external aspects that involve the whole environment in which the organization operates. It is believed that these aspects influence both the decision for the development of innovations in the application for product or process innovation in the market. This study aimed to identify how and why innovations emerge in the productive chain of Brazilian apples and what the results obtained from the innovations implemented in the sectors producing and packing houses. The methodological procedures have employed as a research strategy case study, which was effected by means of qualitative and quantitative approaches to research. In relation to the objectives the study had an exploratory, descriptive and explanatory. The qualitative analysis was performed through exploratory research with experts in the productive chain of Brazilian apples to identify innovations that have been implemented and also to classify them according to the chain ring tetralogical. Among the main results emphasize the identification of aspects that compose the framework and provided a guideline for conducting qualitative research. Also noteworthy is the chain obtained among those identified empirically and the junction with the theories used, in particular the assumptions of Edgar Morin, by complexity theory. The quantitative stage was effected through the statistical method, by means of factor analysis, which analysis showed identification results show that the innovations to the social, economic, organizational, political and market in the sample of producers and packing-houses of the production chain Brazilian apple defined for this investigation. The quantitative analysis deserves the presentation through descriptive statistics of the characterization of the samples, as well as the processes of innovation that each sample has implemented. A factor analysis of the presentation highlighted variables for each factor in the four samples (producers and packing houses of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul) individually and for the entire chain including the four samples. Through multiple regression analysis identified the perception of the impact of innovations for the entire production chain of Brazilian apples, including growers and packing houses in the states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

The effect of systemic functional linguistics-based self-intervention programme on the ESL grammar proficiency of Grade 8 learners

Nell, Karin 01 1900 (has links)
Abstracts in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa / English proficiency is regarded important for economic empowerment in South Africa, since English is the official business language of the country. South Africa is, however, a multilingual country, with 11 official languages. The majority of South African learners do not speak English as first language, but study English as an additional language in school. This leads to English Second Language (ESL) classroom complexities such as multilingualism, negative attitudes to ESL, and various levels of linguistic proficiency, which affect the teaching of the prescribed curriculum. Many learners arrive in secondary school (Grade 8) with underdeveloped English proficiency, which means that a lot of time in ESL classrooms is spent on re-teaching English language concepts, especially grammar concepts. This causes stress for both ESL teachers and learners. This study tested the effectiveness of a self-help ESL grammar intervention programme in order to establish whether existing gaps in grammar knowledge could be closed via self-study outside of the classroom. More specifically, the study asked the question whether learners’ knowledge of Parts of Speech could be enhanced via a self-help intervention programme, which was based on the principles of Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG). SFG is not traditionally used as an instructional framework in ESL classrooms in the South African context. The rationale for assessing the efficiency of an SFG self-help intervention programme was that there is currently a dire need for alternative approaches to teaching ESL grammar, which would assist struggling learners to raise their proficiency levels quickly, and which would allow teachers to continue with the prescribed curriculum. The intervention programme was tested in a controlled quasi-experimental study, which included an experimental group and a control group, and which compared performance in the mid-year examination and year-end examination to performance in a baseline assessment. The results of the study showed that the self-intervention programme was effective in enhancing ESL learners’ knowledge of Parts of Speech, and also had a positive effect on other aspects of grammar knowledge and on writing. Based on these findings, it is recommended that self-regulation and self-instruction be considered for inclusion in ESL syllabi in the South African context, as it can play a positive role in enhancing ESL learners’ linguistic proficiency. / Ubugcisa kulwimi lwesiNgesi bubaluleke kakhulu ekuxhobiseni ezoqoqosho eMzantsi Afrika kuba silulwimi lwezoshishino olusemthethweni kweli lizwe. Uninzi lwabafundi baseMzantsi Afrika alusithethi njengolwimi lokuqala isiNgesi, koko lusifunda njengolwimi olongeziweyo esikolweni. Oku kukhokelela kwiingxaki ezininzi kwiklasi efundisa isiNgesi njengoLwimi lwesiBini, ezifana nokusetyenziswa kweelwimi ezininzi kwakunye namanqanaba awohlukileyo olwazi nobugcisa bokusebenzisa ulwimi, nto ezo zichaphazela ukufundiswa kwekharityhulam esekiweyo. Abafundi abaninzi bafika kwisikolo sasesekondari (iBanga lesi-8) bengenalwazi nabugcisa baneleyo besiNgesi, ngenxa yoko, kwiklasi yesiNgesi uLwimi lwesiBini kuchithwa ixesha elininzi kuphindaphindwa ukufundiswa kwesigama sesiNgesi, ngakumbi isigama segrama. Esi sifundo sophando siye sahlola ukusebenza kwenkqubo yongenelelo kufundiso lwegrama yesiNgesi uLwimi lwesiBini apho umfundi azinceda ngokwakhe, ukuze kufunyaniswe ukuba zingavaleka na ezi zikhewu zikhoyo zokuswela ulwazi lwegrama ngokuzifundela ngaphandle kweklasi. Olu phando lujolise ngakumbi kumbuzo wokuba, ingaba ulwazi lwabafundi ngeziGaba zeNtetho lungaphuculwa na ngokusebenzisa le nkqubo yongenelelo yokuzinceda esekelwe kwimithetho-siseko yeSystemic Functional Grammar (iSFG). ISFG ayisetyenziswa ngokwesithethe njengesakhelo sokufundisa kwiklasi yesiNgesi uLwimi lwesiBini eMzantsi Afrika. Esona sizathu sokuvavanya ukusebenza kwale nkqubo yongenelelo yokuzinceda yeSFG, kukuba kukho intswelo enkulu yeendlela ezizezinye zokufundisa igrama yesiNgesi uLwimi lwesiBini, nto leyo inokunceda abafundi abatsala nzima baphucule amaqondo abo obugcisa, kananjalo incede ootitshala bakwazi ukuqhubela phambili nekharityhulam emiselweyo. Le nkqubo yongenelelo yavavanywa kuphando oluphantsi kolawulo olwaziwa ngokuba sisifundo sophando olungagqibelelanga (quasi experimental study), olwaquka iqela lolingelo kunye neqela elisetyenziswa njengomgangatho wentelekiso (control group). Olu phando lwathelekisa indlela abaqhuba ngayo abafundi kwiimviwo zombindi wonyaka nezokuphela konyaka, ithelekiswa kunye nenkqubo yabafundi kuvavanyo olusisiseko. Iziphumo zophando zabonisa ukuba inkqubo yongenelelo yokuzinceda ibe nempumelelo ekuphuliseni ulwazi lwabafundi lweziGaba zeNtetho kwaye ibe nefuthe elakhayo nakweminye imiba yolwazi lwegrama nesakhono sokubhala. Robin Hood och Hemtjänsten : En förstudie om Företagshälsovårdens arbete med arbetsmiljöfrågor inom hemtjänstbranschen / Robin Hood and the Home Maker Service : A preliminary study on the occupational health service work with health and safety issues in the home maker service industry

Sandberg, Karin January 2014 (has links)
Occupational Health Service (OHS) has an important role in society. It is designed to prevent illness and strengthen the health of workers. OHS operations and development are currently being studied at the School of Technology and Health at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. One of the industries studied is the home maker service. During the 2010s were such employees one of the most ill groups in Sweden. This master's thesis in occupational environment development and change management focus on examining the special knowledge an OHS and its clients in one home maker service need to strengthen the workers of the industry and find out how the interaction between OHS and home maker service works and how it could be evolved. A qualitative study was conducted in a Swedish city on the basis of an organizational perspective. Six persons between 30 and 65 years of age were interviewed. The interviewed people’s occupations were ergonomist, safety engineer, home health aides and managers from both companies. To gain a deeper understanding of the phenomenon the interviews were transcribed. Key themes for the interviewees were collaboration, economy and engagement, important health and safety issues, prevention, the home help service needs of OHS and what support OHS need in their work with the home maker services. The studied parties agreed that they had no developed cooperation and that there was a gap between them. All interviewees consisted on the work environment problems in the industry. These were stress, time pressure, heavy physical work, patients’ homes were not always suited for the home health aides, lack of colleagues, intimidation and violence and smoking patients. There was found a barrier between the preventive work that could be undertaken and what was ordered from the home maker service.

Design optimal des réseaux Fiber To The Home / Optimal design of Fiber To The Home networks

Angilella, Vincent 16 June 2018 (has links)
For operators, FTTH networks are the most widespread solution to the increasing traffic demand. Their layout requires a huge investment. The aim of this work is to ensure a cost effective deployment of quality networks. We start by presenting aspects of this network design problem which make it a complex problem. The related literature is reviewed to highlight the novel issues that we solve. Then, we elaborate strategies to find the best solution in different contexts. Several policies regarding maintenance or civil engineering use will be investigated. The problems encountered are tackled using several combinatorial optimization tools (integer programming, valid inequalities, dynamic programming, approximations, complexity theory, inapproximability…) which will be developed according to our needs. The proposed solutions were tested and validated on real-life instances, and are meant to be implemented in a network planning tool from Orange

The art of cultivating art and culture through urban and regional planning : a study on how to create fertile conditions for cultural infrastructure

Lundgren, Lovisa January 2018 (has links)
Although the role of culture for sustainable development is recognized by many in the academy as well as in the urban and regional planning sector, the planning of practical conditions for arts and culture - cultural infrastructure - is inadequate and sometimes completely absent in Sweden today. The aim of this study is therefore to explore what conditions can be created for cultural infrastructure through urban and regional planning in Sweden. Cultural infrastructure includes both hard (such as physical premises) and soft structures (such as financial support). The study focuses on public activities (mainly municipal and regional) but also deals with how private consultancy firms can enable cultural infrastructure.   The results are based on qualitative interviews with artists, arts and culture associations, architects as well as municipal and regional planners. Moreover, the study comprises of two questionnaires aimed at art and culture actors and planners and architects from the municipal, regional and private sector. Within the study, two sample cases have been studied - Fyrklöven in Upplands Väsby, and the Street art festival No Limit in Borås. The study explores three research questions: 1) What kind of cultural infrastructure that is needed in Sweden today? 2) What prevents the development of Cultural Infrastructure? 3) What potential lies in urban and regional planning?   The results of the study show that the types of cultural infrastructure that are primarily needed in Sweden today are Available meeting places, Information and knowledge, as well as Networks and Funding. The three biggest obstacles identified is Lack of value and responsibility for art and culture, Funding and Structure and organization. Collaboration proves to be the most important potential in planning, both over the levels of municipal-region-state, as with art and culture actors and other civil society actors and businesses. Two other main potentials lie in Strategic planning, and Demands and investments. This includes application of planning tools such as Cultural Planning and Culture Impact Assessments. The study also highlights the importance that municipalities set higher demands and use their positions as long-term societal developers with monopoly in order to give room for art and culture – e.g. by applying a scoring system similar to that in Fyrklövern when pricing land. Moreover, the study points to the benefits and importance of supporting grassroots initiatives and providing them long-term conditions for driving cultural infrastructure. In order to make cultural infrastructures available and inclusive, a critical approach is also required that draws attention to hidden norms.   The results of the study speak for the relevance of the complexity theory in understanding and describing cultural development. This theory support results of the study such as the importance of collaborating over policy areas, e.g. housing and public transport, the importance of not planning everything in detail and instead leave room for organic development. It also explains that one cannot directly or precisely quantify the effects of art and culture efforts. The results of the study are finally summarized as recommendations for urban and regional planners as well as political and private decision-makers.

Baldé, Thierno 02 1900 (has links)
In an attempt to improve the health status of their population, health care systems in developing countries face several organizational issues. These issues include the presence of international organizations with different goals and characteristics, as well as little convergence and poor coordination. While focussing on this specific issue, the objective of this dissertation is to deeply explore the issues related to the process of introducing change in health care systems of developing countries. The research method for this study is a concept analysis that requires a literature review, the use of new theories to clarify these concepts as well as the use of case studies to empirically validate these concepts. Using Parsons’s social action theory and the complexity theory, a new theory of change (1st concept) was developed and applied to the process of introduction of an epidemiological surveillance system in Haiti. More specifically, in the first two articles, we have analysed the process of adopting the epidemiological surveillance system (2nd concept) and the determinants of collaboration among the different organizations involved in the change process (3rd concept). The results from these two articles enabled us to highlights the low level of adoption as well as the weak articulation of the determinants of collaborations between the various organizations involved in the change process. From these analyses, we were able to highlights the dynamics of chaos operating in Haiti’s health care system in the third article. This chaos stage which could enable us to show the difficulties associated with the introduction of change in health systems in developing countries in general, and Haiti in particular, was characterized by a hidden order underlying an apparent disorder in the operation of certain components of the Haitian’s health system, the existence of instability, unpredictability as well as structural invariance at various levels of governance. Moreover, this research also enabled us to show that these characteristics are maintained by the presence of three well articulated and coherent social action systems at all levels of the health pyramid. They are those related to bilateral cooperation agencies, those related to international foundations and global initiatives fighting against AIDS, and finally those associated with the United Nations Organizations. These social action systems are also associated with other more complex systems outside the Haiti’s health system. On the basis of these results, we proposed a new approach to understand the process of introducing change in health care systems of developing countries that would fit into the logic that supports the setting up a larger interconnections and diversification among various organizations involved.

On Invariant Formulae of First-Order Logic with Numerical Predicates

Harwath, Frederik 12 December 2018 (has links)
This thesis studies the concept of order-invariance of formulae of first-order logic (FO) and some of its extensions as well as other closely related concepts from finite model theory. Many results in finite model theory assume that structures are equipped with an embedding of their universe into an initial segment of the natural numbers. This allows to transfer arbitrary relations (e.g. linear order) and operations (e.g. addition, multiplication) on the natural numbers to structures. The arising relations on the structures are called numerical predicates. If formulae use these numerical predicates, it is often desirable to consider only such formulae whose truth value in finite structures is invariant under changes to the embeddings of the structures. If the numerical predicates include only a linear order, such formulae are called order-invariant. We study the effect of the invariant use of different kinds of numerical predicates on the expressive power of FO and extensions thereof. The results of this thesis can be divided into three parts. The first part considers the locality and non-locality properties of formulae of FO with modulo-counting quantifiers which may use arbitrary numerical predicates in an invariant way. The second part considers sentences of FO which may use a linear order and the corresponding addition in an invariant way and obtains a characterisation of the regular finite tree languages which can be defined by such sentences: these are the same tree languages which are definable by FO-sentences without numerical predicates with certain cardinality predicates. For the proof, we obtain a characterisation of the tree languages definable in this logic in terms of algebraic operations on trees. The third part compares the expressive power and the succinctness of different ex- tensions of FO on structures of bounded tree-depth.
