Johansen, Amanda January 2019 (has links)
Consumption has today become a large part of human life. Especially for young individuals there is a tendency to consume more to achieve a higher social status and create an identity through consumption. It was therefore interesting to investigate why young individuals consume despite the fact that they today has a high environmental awareness. The aim of this study was to investigate the consumption habits of young individuals and how their feelings are towards their consumption habits in relation to the current environmental problem. In addition three questions were stated to fulfill the aim of the study, these were stated as followed: “How do the interviewees understand their consumption habits?”, “How do the interviewees understand the environment?” and “How do the interviewees experience their consumption habits in relation to the environment?”. The theoretical framework consists of theories of consumption and consumption society in which individuals create an identity with the product they consume. The empire was collected through semi-structured interviews with eight people aged 18-25. The interview questions were based on different themes which referred to the interviewees consumption habits, environmental awareness and the relationship between them. The result showed that the interviewees consumption habits varies but that consumption is a big part of their lives. The majority of the interviewees consume things they found to be trendy, as they to some extent are affected by the opinions of others and what they see other people consume. The interviewees experience positive emotions while consuming initially, and then experienced anxiety about having spent money and thus have less money to consume further. All interviewees considered that a better economy had made it possible for a desired increased consumption. The environmental awareness of the interviewees also varies widely, all of which were aware of the current environmental problem and most of them feel anxiety about the future. However, there was a hopelessness amongst the interviewees as they feel that their involvement do not help in the grand scheme of things, which results in inactivity even for those who have environmental knowledge. Awareness of the impact of their consumption habits on the environment is low, and all believed that bad habits are difficult to break. The interviewees feel a strong desire to consume new goods and there is a constant fear of not fitting in because of a lack of consumption and that therefore outweighs their awareness of the negative impact of consumption on the environment.

Trabalhador consumidor: subjetividade na sociedade de consumo e seus efeitos no mundo do trabalho\" / Consumer-worker: subjectivity in the consumption society and its effects on the work world

Ziliotto, Denise Macedo 25 November 2005 (has links)
Work psychology has gone through impasses related both to its own object and to the understanding of contemporary world changes. Since the late nineteenth century, work has been dimensioned from its institutionalization as a job, thus constituting an important reference in a society that was quickly becoming industrialized. However, supporting this social reference has impacts upon subjectivity and undergoes changes from the consumption society, in which social exchanges are marked by both mediation and fruition of products and services, a logic to which work also adheres. We have theorized that work psychology, in its analysis of work organizations and psychic suffering, needs to include the consumption dimension in its reflection, considering its incontestable presence in working today. In order to prove this proposition, we have presented formulations stemmed from theories about the consumption society that make explicit the changes both in relationships among subjects and in their livelihood, from the modalities to face vicissitudes of existence, taking into account the historical contingencies of the industrial society. The theoretical guideline of this analysis is Psychoanalysis, especially the contributions made by Freud and Lacan, in which formulations of discontentment and discourse are considered. The construction of this proposition finds in the text The Cave, by José Saramago, the literary record that provides a metaphor to central issues of therelationship between work and consumption, which allows for a productive dialogue between a discourse that can be taken as social and the theoretical formulation proposed. In the achievement of this trajetory, we have identified developments in the work world from the implication between work and consumption society

This research intends to deepen the question of communication through built spaces, more specifically in the playful universe of the stores and their brand representation. We aimed to analyse and understand how the branding discourse, representative of the consumer society, is manifested in the constructed object and the environment established for it. We have used theories of Gilles Lipovetsky and Everardo Rocha about consumerism and its representation in modern-contemporary society as well as methods of analysis based on Lucia Santaella Pierces semiotics theories . Therefore, we have built a theoretical framework that allows us to understand the manifestation of a brand oriented by consumption phenomenon; its forms of representation, identity and also its role in commercial interior spaces.

Aiming to problematize cultural aspects of consumption society, the present study starts from the theoretical background of the Frankfurt School in order to build up subsides for the cultural formation process in societies based on capitalist rationale. Applied as empirical field, the study was carried out in an early literacy group in a local school from Rio Grande/RS, it was chosen a qualitative approach of research, narrowing it to the concept of research action, provided the condition that the researcher was the teacher of the group under study. So as to understand how the fetishization process of the artistic object takes place in the daily routine of this group of children, as well as to identify the persuasion mechanisms applied by the cultural industry, Music was selected as an outline of social reality, which enabled to raise questions in terms of presence and absenteeism of Musical Education in official school curriculum. Throughout this study, we were able to note that Music is prone not only to ideological application but also to any other cultural expression. In the context of field work, the group as a whole conveyed ways of thinking and acting which were encouraged by their ways of living, supporting the idea of social identity. As last considerations, we point out the importance of thinking over such matters constantly, in order not to surrender to alienation processes produced by Music itself.

O “bem estar bem” no discurso identitário das consultoras da Natura: análise de recepção da comunicação organizacional na sociedade do consumo / The "welfare and" the discourse of identity consultants of nature: an analysis of receipt of organizational communication in the society of consumption

Then, organizations are more than players in the production system, they are symbolic construction, they mediate and define peculiars criterias to look into reality. Thefore, communication and organization emerge in the discourses encounters that show up social practices. Considering the organizations meanings, products and different communication activities, this research has the aim of explaining how Natura, a cosmetic brazilian company, is represented and how its image interact with consumption society ideas in order to participate in the identities construction of the outsourced sales force: the consultors. This paper analises two diferents communication texts that belong to the Natura magazine dedicated to its consultors. The main idea is to think how representations of organizations interact with the consumption society features and participate in the identities construction. Before starting, this research assumes that Natura’s consultors reproduce, in a certain way, the organization discourse, because the Natura communication shows a positive relationship between them. This paper proposes to understand this symbolic process. In this logic, the organizations would be sense producers and reproducers interacting in a unique way with the social memory helping to install the belonging feeling. To develop this study, this research uses the Bauman consumption society ideas, the Orlandi Discourse Analysis and Montreal School Organizational Communication theories.

Rodrigues, Graziela Fernanda 18 June 2013 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-26T18:13:11Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Graziela Fernanda Rodrigues.pdf: 3857769 bytes, checksum: 0ccda7fa02eea9f4afbdf7f82b79c010 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-06-18 / By using the discursive semiotics theories developed by A.J. Greimas, E. Landowski and A.C. Oliveira, it will be investigated how women s Fashion and Beauty blogs named Elfinha and Vende na Farmácia? (Little Elf and Is it Sold on the Drugstore?) engender themselves in lieu of the consumers speeches (bloggers and readers), considering the way by which such virtual spaces have become value objects - as much as for the addressees (consumers and blog readers) involved in this interaction - as for the market and its corporations, who seek for nearness with their respective targets. The research hypothesis states that the dissemination of internet uses has enabled the amplification and diversification of the addressees voice place in mass communications. Nowadays, social networks, virtual pages, discussion forums and blogs present an advantage in terms of information transmission speed and even an efficacy related to traditional medias, once the interaction is more direct and able to produce nearness effects and, therefore, reduce mediations between interlocutors. Especially on the blogs case, the media s nature allows itself to be converted into a place for content production that is availible for everyone to reach. Hence, bloggers and readers have the opportunity to turn themselves into sanctioners that, in the specific cases linked to Fashion and Beauty, lead to a make-consume carried together. In Elfinha and Vende na Farmácia? the interaction happens among bloggers and readers that, equally, are consumers and network users, what brings them close throughout expression and content plans and favors the development of a mutual identification, encouraging the establishment of a communication contract and the dynamic of interaction regimes described by E. Landowski. In the context of a post-modern society, in which an individual s place is established from and by the act of consuming, the modalities (volitional and cognitives) permeate more and more the interactions also within these blogs. Thus, they become another marketing instrument, once they are capable of modalizing their relations with the readers towards a managed interaction, largely held by the manipulation and reactive adjustment regimes. However, the blogosphere professionalization - through relations increasingly regulated by mercadologic initiatives - jeopardize some of the characteristics that have raised its post to a value object: freedom, democratization and authenticity / Utilizando as teorias da semiótica discursiva desenvolvidas por A.J. Greimas, E. Landowski e A.C.

Analyse sémio-discursive de la presse écrite / Ecological and imaginary stakes in the consumption. Semiological and discursive analysis of the french press

Botero Garcia, Nataly 12 June 2014 (has links)
In view of the ecological infringements generated by the economic paradigms, those do not seem any more bearable. However since a few years, the ecologicalproblems began to crystallize in modes of consumption, values, practices andimaginaries associated to measure and sobriety. We attempt to study this change of paradigm through the media coverage of theenvironmental stakes in France. Our aim it’s to exanimate the words and the speech ofthe ecological problems in the French press: national daily newspapers (non-specializedpress) and associative and ecologist magazines (specialized press). The main objective of this research is to analyze and to understand the emergenceof speeches and representations which participate in the construction of a newsociocultural imaginaries.
