A construção duplicada em \"O homem duplicado\" / Double construction in \"The Double\"

Francisco das Chagas Jacinto Alves 05 August 2010 (has links)
This dissertation researches the duplicity in The Double, by José Saramago. This book was published in Brazil in 2002 and focuses on the globalized world identity, based on the story of the meeting between Tertuliano Máximo Afonso, a History teacher, and his look-alike, António Claro, a supporting actor. Analyzing parts of the novel, the way this duplicity theme is observed to approach the division of the contemporary man\'s identity. This dissertation is based on theoreticians who focus on duplicity, such as Carl F. Keppler and Nicole Bravo, and identity, Stuart Hall. The work of Marshall Berman on \"modernization dialectics is another reference. Sigmund Freud also provides important contributions from the point of view of the human psyche. Using such approach, it was possible to better understand fiction mechanisms supporting criticism by Saramago, trying to understand the game between the inner and outer reality in fiction and society. That is why this paper is divided in five parts. The first part presents the purpose of this dissertation and theoretical foundation. The second part focuses on the analysis of the homogeneous duplicity in this novel. Then, an investigation about the heterogeneous duplicity. The other two parts focuses on contemporary identity division. One focuses on the construction of the main conflict in this novel, and the other focuses on the study of ambiguities along the story, in order to make evident the structure of the novel as post modernity feature.

Chabrier, Isabelle 15 December 2012 (has links)
This study sets out the Bakhtine “carnival dimension” in the Cuban contemporary novel (El arpa y la sombra by Alejo Carpentier, Paradiso by José Lezama Lima, De donde son los cantantes by Severo Sarduy, Tres tristes tigres by Guillermo Cabrera Infante, El color del verano o Nuevo “Jardín de las Delicias” by Reinaldo Arenas, La piel y la máscara by Jesús Díaz). Our main concern is to demonstrate that “upside down world characteristics” that fixe the “carnavalesque vision” proposed by the Russian theorist is part of the writing in the integration of the carnival’s codes both as literary themes as narrative techniques. In a reading exceeding the baroque concept associated up to now with the Cuban novels of our corpus, we envisage the resurgence of the carnival’s former popular traditions, the mixture between tribute and irreverence, sacralization and deconsecration, as the symptom of the Cuban subject’s crisis, the postmodern expression of the rejection of the idols at the same time as the demonstration of a deep desire to recover a temporary freedom in the carnivalized literary representation and to plunge into a golden age celebrated by the carnival.

Bughin, Hélène 05 1900 (has links)
This memoir in creation-research is first and foremost a novel named “Les fuckalls”, in which is illustrated the aimless drifting of some teenagers in Sherbrooke, Québec as well as their attempt to form a community in a society that promotes productivity and appearance. Will be considered in this part the awareness of the fiction process, boredom, relationships and apathy. The research part focuses around the idea of the praise of apathy that comes from the mechanisms of irony in Document 1 by François Blais (2012), a road novel subverted by the playful duo formed by Tess and Jude. First, this essay dissects the way the notion of apathy is inserted in the daily lives of the characters, as well as the humor process, which can appear as a homage to the 1973 novel L’hiver de force, by Réjean Ducharme. This particular humoristic tone is linked to the complicity the narrator is trying to develop through a narration said to be mindless. This complicity is necessary to the inscription of irony in the text, which is manifesting itself through the story and the narration, as well as the contradictory twists that is brought by a falsified quest. This research explores the way that this doxa, which advocates that the key to happiness has to be somewhere else, is deflected by the author by the exploration of the adjacent territory and the mise en abyme of the story. In the end, the impossibility of any departure translates the inherent fatality of apathy, the state in which the characters are living their lives. The studied corpus links the irony as the mechanism that supports the praise of apathy.

LaRoche, Rachel 08 1900 (has links)
Influenced by travel and exploration stories, as well as the American and Quebec road narratives, the contemporary novels Six Degrees of Freedom by Nicolas Dickner and Document 1 by François Blais subvert travel writing by challenging its conventions and assumptions, while interrogating a stable understanding of space. These two novels feature unusual journeys: whether on board a refrigerated container or through the web, crossing vast territories or confined, Blais and Dickner’s protagonists transform the cartographic purpose of travel. As they rewrite codified travel narratives and take over a number of topoï and clichés, these two texts deploy singular cartographies, which mix invention and reality, geographical spaces and imaginary places. This thesis therefore intends to focus on the representation of space and travel in these two novels, with a particular attention to the way novelists play with their reader, for it is through a ludic irony that Document 1 and Six degrees of freedom observe and record today’s reality.

Hurtubise, Paul 01 1900 (has links)
The decline of the conflict between character and society is seen as one of the fundamental characteristics of contemporary literature. Baril Guérard's characters, confident, talented and in tune with today's society, adhere to this impression by engaging in quests devoid of adversity. They discover themselves, however, as their own greatest obstacle to the personal fulfillment they desire. The central conflict of the novels thus opposes them to themselves, to the limits they set for themselves, and forces them to change. What forms does this struggle against oneself take? To what extent does the hollowness of the announced quests contribute to their inner conflict? This dissertation will focus on the displacement of the conflict within the self, the only "place" where it can still happen in today’s society. It will focus on the first three novels of Jean Philippe Baril Guérard, Sports et divertissements, (2014), Royal (2016) and Manuel de la vie sauvage (2018). In today's society where only personal achievement seems to matter, depression and lack of self-confidence become major obstacles. A normative interpretation (Hamon) of the judgments of Baril Guérard's protagonists will allow for a better understanding of the social background they belong to, in addition to accounting for the feeling of superiority that defines them. Unable to maintain this feeling of superiority, the self (Ricœur) and its ideal (Lasch Ehrenberg) by which the protagonists define themselves causes the inner collapse of the characters. However, the changes they submit themselves to remedy it, passing by a reification (Lukacs) of themselves, don’t mean a continuation of the self as much as its perdition.

Beaudin-Gagné, David 01 1900 (has links)
The first part of this thesis consists of a short theatrical text entitled Procès-Verbal. It features a fragmentary story and explores the ideas of burst identity, broken memory and mimicry. These themes are related with mechanisms of repetition, minimalist formal treatment and abundant silences, representative of the faded identity of the characters. The second part of the thesis, entitled Filiation(s) rompue(s) : mémoire en pièces et tissus de parole, gets into the themes of memory and heritage in Hervé Bouchard’s novel Parents et amis sont invités à y assister. The analysis aims to highlight the link between textual fragmentation and disrupted legacy. It focuses specifically on the dislocation of speech, indication of a broken identity.

L'initiation est-elle possible en littérature? Une approche de l'oeuvre de Antonio Muñoz Molina / Is initiation possible in literature? An approach to Antonio Muñoz Molina's work

Berton-Aubry, Marie-Emilie 28 June 2013 (has links)
The broad objective of this thesis was to explore a particular way of transmitting messages contained in novels, and more precisely a mise en scene based on the representation and re-creation of an initiatory process. In this view, after studying the permanence of initiation in the post-modern world and defining its presence in literature, a theory and a method of analysing novels were suggested as being useful for the characters as well as for the reader. So as to confirm this theoretical and methodological proposition, a practical implementation was carried out in the analysis of Antonio Muñoz Molina’s work. Indeed the novels of the Spanish writer feature both a constantly reaffirmed ethical commitment and an aesthetics research characterised by labyrinth writing and the will of interacting with the reader. Besides, the analysis of the characters’ development and representation of the Model Reader according to the hypothesis of an initiatory transformation brought to light the reiteration of the use of the process in the various novels. In addition, this very angle of the novels’ study proved to be particularly suitable in the analysis of Antonio Muñoz Molina’s because the initiation prism helped the implementation of a global vision of novels that took into account both their style and content, both the narrative structure and ethical message and both the characters and reader.

Um Romance B. The research has two moments: the contemporary context of the novel´s kind of writing, in Brazil, and the corpuses analysis, under the light of theories that discuss the contemporary time. The paper work asks if could Caio Fernando Abreu´s novel be showing traces that break with characteristics of the traditional novel s narrative. Its objective is a critical analysis of the narrative, checking the choices, which not only define the structural elements of the narrative but a few social and psychological aspects of the contemporary man. The theoretical argumentation is based on studies from Urlich Gumbrecht, Tânia Pellegrini, Umberto Eco, between others. Being a child of 70´s literature, Onde Anadará Dulce Veiga? Um Romance B arrives to the 90´s dragging a literary past remarkably Brazilian, incorporating non usual techniques from other arts and characterizing vividly the artistic-cultural scene in the end of the 20th century / Esta dissertação centra-se no campo da análise literária e focaliza o romance de Caio Fernando Abreu, Onde Andará Dulce Veiga?

Pereira, Maria de Fátima da Silva 11 May 2005 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-28T19:59:04Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao .pdf: 553918 bytes, checksum: 24d7e3a64d31a63aff789f427a3ba5fe (MD5) Previous issue date: 2005-05-11 / We observe in the contemporary novel an increasing lack of narration naturalness that implies in the multiplication of points of view and as a consequence in the narrator s presence inconstancy. Patrícia Melo s novel, O Matador, also shows the instability of this point of view because although the narration is done in first person by the protagonist it doesn t guarantee the constant narrator s presence in the storytelling. This mix between literary and non-literary procedures directly interferes in the narrator s authority because at the time of oral narration the narrator based his story on experience, but currently bases his authority on presentiveness , according to contemporary demand that privileges simultaneity. In this novel the strategies used to obtain presentification of the storytelling have a double consequence: on the one hand they give legitimacy to the facts since they seem to renounce to the narrator s presence and on the other hand they eliminate the protagonist-narrator s traces since at times he behaves as a spectator. Ultimately, the study of this narrator who often oscillates between leaving and eliminating traces, behaving as an observer of the roles played by himself, questions and at the same time reinvents the representation apparatus using the different presentification strategies like advertisements, TV news, newspapers, lack of marks in the change in voice in the dialogues, etc. This attitude will set a fast pace to the story and the apparent lack of mediation will contribute to strengthening a pact with the reader. Therefore in O Matador we observe the dramatization of the loss in the naturalness of telling a story through discourse / Observamos no romance contemporâneo uma acentuada perda da naturalidade de narrar, que redunda na multiplicação dos pontos de vista e, conseqüentemente, na inconstância da presença do narrador.

Cesário, Irineia Lina 07 May 2008 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-28T19:59:09Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Irineia Lina Cesario.pdf: 465968 bytes, checksum: 3057c536aca0d24472f2b84821fc6361 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-05-07 / Fundação Ford / The main issue investigated and documented by the reading of Niketche a story of polygamy (2004) written by Paulina Chiziane alludes to the analogies in the plural dialogue in the space of the perceptive and cultural experience that generate libertarian images of the female conscience in the Mozambican polygamous context. In the course of the intradiegetic narration in the first person, we describe polygamy in a state of dramatic language sustained by concepts of literary theory and recent studies carried out by researchers of African Literature such as Coelho (1993), Leite (1988, 2004), Chaves (2005), Soares (2006), Lobo (2007), Noa (1997), Rosario (1989) and Santilli (2003). Chapter I, The Mirror A Reflection of Dialogue between Feminine and Masculine Love, centralizes the orality and vocality in discourse from Zumthor (1993,2000) under the aspects of Mozambican tongue and language represented in the polydiscourse of the Niketche dance, supported by Baudrillard (1992), Bettelheim (1980), Bachelard (2002), Genette (1995), Eco (1989), Segolin (1999), Urbano (2000), Bonicci (2000), Todorov (1968), Derrida (2005), Barthes (2006), among others. In Chapter II, Discursive Confluences between Feminine Faces/Voices, we demonstrate the discursive convergencies of female and male characters under the polyphonic theory of Bakthin (2002) which allowed us to establish an image of women oriented by caricatural and ludicrous behavior in group performance, founded on the matriarchal system, yet guaranteed by Casimiro (2004) and Tsemo (1992). In Chapter III, In the Legends of Western Orality Africanness, warranted by Perrone-Moises (1978, 2000) and by researchers of the said African Literature, we speak of the I-narrators as esthetical results of a ritualized and up-dated plot of the symbolic past. Lastly, Niketche, a dance of recreation, expresses the transition of the written language and the language of orality giving them a transforming character through body language, the place of the performance of the new writing of the memory, of Western tradition, and the testimonial and biographic change of female voices in a renewed textual universe / A principal questão investigada e comprovada pela leitura de Niketche: uma história de poligamia (2004), da escritora Paulina Chiziane, remete-se às analogias no diálogo plural, no espaço da experiência perceptiva e cultural geradora de imagens libertárias da consciência feminina no contexto poligâmico moçambicano.
