This study assesses how women's representation conveyed in the media can guide the construction of female identity, exploring an analytical perspective that points to the ways of appropriation of messages transmitted, specifically related to the cult of the body, consumption and sexuality. Accordingly, in order to seize the bridge between the feminine and what is conveyed in the media I propose to examine five issues of two magazines for women who constitute themselves as guides to behavior in contemporary culture magazine for being consolidated and widely circulated on the market: Claudia and Nova, both of Editora Abril, and a two-way movement brought the contents of these journals to be discussed by women from different universes socio-economic-cultural. These universes were established through a survey of information on the markers of difference, such as family income, education, age, race, marital status and occupation, as well as data on the habits and daily practices that cover the cultural universe that women are included, such as reading, TV watching time and frequency to the movies. Copies of the magazines were brought to discussion of thematic axis of our work and seizure of correspondence of his speeches with the reality of each interviewee. We can see that in some cases, the speeches of individual autonomy, physical fitness and sexuality, evoking aspects of women's greater freedom, in some ways are decoded by the women interviewed. However, the journals studied were not completely influence the prevailing aspects of their respective universes, as well as aspects related to a certain conservatism in the design of the body, sexuality and consumption

Corpo e identidade feminina / Body and feminine identity

Berger, Mirela 28 September 2006 (has links)
The work has as objective to perceive and to understand as the Brazilian women of upper-middle class and urban (from 1990) they think the construction of its auto-image, which the corporal models that influence this process, as well as the corporal techniques to reach them. The analysis axles are the corporal representations, since one of the hypotheses central offices of the project is that through the analysis of the ideal of body pursued for the women, either possible to have access all a system of perception not only of itself, but also of the world of which these women are part, since the body can be seen as a microcosm and certifies a social mark. The work investigates the relations between corporalidade and identity for the women of the sample, questioning, among others things, if the attainment of a specific body is, in the perception of the women, basic so that these if feel owners of a style of specific life and a social belonging. It investigates the importance of the media in this process, as well as the perigos of the cult to the body, arguing and alerting, among others aspects, for the alimentary riots.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Selma Peleias Felerico Garrini.pdf: 6213671 bytes, checksum: b5525ec2f4437c1eead0c4c4e2ca5173 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-10-13 / Considering that the newsmagazine Veja is a publication of general interest and of main circulation in Brazil and that it has also been a handbook of socio-cultural behaviour since the 1960s., we chose as the object of this research the image of the female body and its meanings liable to be analysed in the cover reports of Veja Magazine which deal with the cult of the body, since its creation on 11th September 1968 to 2010. Which is the image of the female body that Veja has edited in the course of its 42 years of existence? This is the problem we discuss in this work. Based on this topic, there are other questions which guide this investigation: Which bodies have been excluded by the magazine, from its creation in 1968 until nowadays? Which corporal marks and meanings are codified in the media discourse of Veja? Which corporal features does the magazine reveal and depict? The general objective is to analyse the aesthetic metamorphoses gone trough by the manners of dealing with the body in this weekly newsmagazine and also to verify the way in which the newsmagazine constructed its dialogue with its readers. The specific objectives are: to register and to categorize the different types of bodies which have been presented in Veja, since the beginning of its publication and to identify which models are left out. The central hypothesis of this research is the fact that in media discourse there is no ideal of standardized body, but an unshapely body, normalized by such discourse, in accordance with the social customs and the consumption practices of each period of history, taking into consideration that the corporal spectacularization of Brazilian society is depicted, dissected, observed and dictated by Veja. To accompany the alterations of the bodies and to identify the transforming signs of the feminine image in Brazilian society, the corpus is compounded of 56 Veja covers and the respective cover reports which have as a central subject matter the cult of the body. The methodology of the research went through the following order: bibliographical revision in order to select theoretical bases concerning the question which is proposed in this work and documentary research in order to analyse the images of the body.

We witness every day, in the context of the industrialized western societies, the frenzied and obsessive importance given to body and fashion both intertwined with the beauty patterns disseminated by the cultural industry, what propitiates a growing run to the consumption of aesthetic innovations. In that sense, the goal is to understand, using a historical-social analysis, the development of the phenomenon of the cult of physical fitness and appearance, considering the daily practices of the culture of consumption deepened involved with the advanced capitalism. Considering that there is an equivalence between cultural production and experiences and subjectivity manners in the contemporary capitalist societies and through a materialistic perspective - although dialoguing with authors from different epistemology approaches - we tried to identify how the logic of merchandise and instrumental rationality appear as much in fashion as in the search of an ideal body.

Kliemann, Gisele 04 May 2009 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-26T18:17:48Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Gisele Kliemann.pdf: 1735751 bytes, checksum: bc54a89ac7bfa01a42eca28ad8b6ec7f (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-05-04 / The last century (XX) developed a new concept of the body that conquered a new space for its representation. The association between aesthetic and beauty brought relevance to the physical formof the body and promoted what it is being called cult to the body that is here understood as the relations and interventions around beauty that are socially idealized. The media became the efficient agent in the supervaluation of the corporal appearance and in the promotion of a constant search of an ideal body. Standardized by the values of the consumption society, he body turned itself in a body-involucre, in a body-packing. All that counts is appearance. The media stirs us up to desire this body and all the activities needed to approach it. The media spread the need for permanently improving, remodeling, reshaping the stops body. Media keep us desiring the desire of this body. Inserted in this context, the contemporary dance suffers consequences of this process in what concerns to the formation of its dancers, although not investing in only one aesthetic standard of the body. Contemporary dance sees in its dancers the action of consumerism. Dancers become eager consumers of techniques and trainings believing that they will be able to dance all types of dance. The thesis is dedicated to identify what produces thie new statement of the body, identifying the media as the central protagonist in this process. The hypothesis is that the consumeristic attitude expresses itself in dance as a form of consumption of different techniques of formation. The techniques are transformed into merchandises and the desire becomes the desire to continue to desire a body never reached. The instauration of the body as merchandise brings the need to construct a body proper, capable of being distinctively itself in the collective. The search of this body is regulated by fashion and by the media, in the net of global communication. The theoretical corpus was constituted with the corpomídia theory (KATZ&GREINER) and with theoreticians of the culture who prioritize the studies of the body (COSTA, FOUCAULT, LIPOVETSKY, SANT' ANNA, CASTRO, GARCIA). With the aim of pesent them as illustrations of these questions, three professional dance groups of the city of Curitiba are brought here / O Século XX inaugurou todo um novo conceito de corpo e, com ele, um outro espaço de representação do corpo na sociedade.

[en] MEDIA AND SELF EXTERNALIZATION: INTIMITY EXHIBITION AND CULT OF BODY IN FORMATION OF CONTEMPORANY SUBJECTIVES / [pt] MÍDIA E EXTERIORIZAÇÃO DO SELF: EXPOSIÇÃO DE INTIMIDADE E CULTO AO CORPO

BRUNO THEBALDI DE SOUZA 06 September 2018 (has links)
[en] It is understood, here, the complex process of formatting of the contemporary subjectivities from two main movements, observed not in isolation manner, but in concomitance, that is, both occurring at the same time, without being annulled. On the contrary, add up each other. They are: the exhibition of particularities of private life in the media, especially in the social networks from the Web 2.0, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, which is alluded as exhibition of intimacy, and the growing and unbridled preoccupation with obtaining the so-called perfect body, usually associated, in the mediatic narratives, with the turned or muscular body, fomenting the movement known as cult of the body. In an attempt to find closeness, distanceness and ambiguitiess between the current predominant model of subjectivity, which began to emerge from the mid-twentieth century, and the past, in vogue, especially between the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century, this PhD thesis matches two different historical moments. For that, the option was to analyze the discourse of Brazilian periodicals, of large and small cities, located in these two temporal cuts. From this investigation, the conclusion was that, contrary to most of the studies defend, the force of externalization, so striking to present days, was already present and felt in the previous subjective model, even though acting differently: if today the predominance is that of active exteriorization, when the individual exposes himself, before the most often observed was what we call passive exteriorization, when the individual is externalized by others, sometimes without your consent or wisdom. Likewise, the goals of exteriorization have changed from the first moment to the next: in the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth, the aim was to embarrass the other, especially through the diffusion of behaviors considered deviant or inappropriate to the moral of the age; now, in turn, it searches for, above all, capture the look of the other, to be seen, which ascends the sense of social prestige.
