Homens sobre rodas : representações de masculinidades nas páginas da revista quatro rodas

Figliuzzi, Adriza January 2008 (has links)
This dissertation aims at analyzing different representations of masculinities in Quatro Rodas magazine, comprehending 13 issues published in 2006 (numbers 548-560), including a special issue about the National Auto Show accompanying the October issue. As theoretical references, I have used contributions from Cultural Studies and Gender Studies, in approximation to a post-structuralist perspective. The images, advertisements and reports that have been chosen for research are those that, in some way, have more opportunely associated possible masculinities in topics and subjects evidenced for analysis. Gender identities and sexualities present in media have been aspects that allowed for those choices. Gender has been taken as a set of possible ways of being a man and a woman, i.e. different possibilities of living masculinities and femininities, which are contingent and changeable, showing a cultural and social character. Media has been considered as a cultural pedagogy that teaches cultural and social practices – in this analysis, gender practices. I have taken advantage of themes belonging to the daily automobile universe in order to think about construction of masculinities. Femininities have also been approached, considering that social relations between men and women are relational. The theme focuses have been distributed as follows: Cars – image and resemblance of their owners; Muscle cars – potency and power; Competition – a matter of cars and men; Favoring passions – a performance of romantic love; and From man to man – representations of masculinities. I have found that cars have been produced as objects belonging to a male world, something that has been constructed since childhood. It has been possible to realize that Quatro Rodas magazine points out heterosexuality as a naturalized practice, which is taken as “normal”. The topics evidenced in the issues analyzed take advantage of daily subjects and emphasize the regime of heteronormativity. Men’s social position has been related to the type of car they own, as well as to the knowledge they have about cars and the automobile world as a whole.

Une approche didactique de la danse et de la création chorégraphique : de l’action conjointe chorégraphe/danseurs, à l’action conjointe professeur/élèves à l’école élémentaire / A didactic approach to dance and choreographic creation : from choreographer/dancers’ joint action, to teacher/students’ joint action in elementary school

Messina, Virginie 13 December 2017 (has links)
The research focuses on three case studies to characterize how knowledge of dance and choreographic creation is mobilized in different institutions: work sessions between a choreographer and dancers in a context of creation, interventions by a choreographic artist in schools, and school dance practice conducted by an elementary schoolteacher. Our approach is based on a didactic anthropology, based on the Joint Action Theory in Didactics (JATD), which leads us to analyse the transactions of the different actors we observe (choreographers, dancers, teachers, students) in order to understand through the construction of choreographic works, the life of the knowledge that shapes them. It results in characterizing creation as a process of inquiry, from which implies that choreographers and dancers get involved into an inventive milieu. The different case studies we put into perspective lead us to reconsider the conditions and issues of dance teaching and learning in schools, and to argue for a closer relatioship between professional choreographic practices and school practices. In particular, the question of students' experience in creative processes in the school context is questioned here on the basis of an analysis of the actual activity of artists in creative situations. The research raises questions about how artistic practices can be practiced within the school institution. The didactic approach chosen allows us to reconsider the teacher-student relationship in the light of the specificities inherent in these practices.

Webbpublicering av elevaktiviteter : en deskriptiv studie av gymnasieelevernas upplevelser / Web publishing of student activities : a descriptive study on the experiences of high school students

Wahlquist, Ragne January 2011 (has links)
The aim of the present study is to describe the experiences of high school students as regards the effects of their activities, in and out of lessons, being published on the web. In addition, a further purpose is to acquire knowledge about whether a website could be used as means of increasing the students level of attention, and focus, to their activities in school; and, furthermore, how such a website should be designed to correspond with the students requests. The implemented methods are interviews with students, school administrators and teachers. A survey was conducted covering the student’s personal experiences and opinions. Furthermore, an interface test of the website was performed. Grades and absences from earlier students were also included in the study. According to the interviews the students experienced that they were affected by the increased level of attention but also that their fellow-students were more affected than they were themselves; and, furthermore, higher grades and fewer absences were registered. The study was conducted at a high school in Stockholm where courses in art and design, with concentrations in industrial design, architecture and urban planning are offered in the Technical Program. Altogether 62 students were included while doing their first year of a total of three years.

The citizenship education system in Canada from 1945-2005 : an overview and assessment

Richet, Evan 01 May 2007
There has been a significant interest amongst immigrants in obtaining Canadian citizenship, dating all the way back to the end of World War Two in 1945. This thesis is particularly interested in what knowledge and skills these immigrants obtain as a result of their experiences in the citizenship education programs provided by the federal government prior to them becoming official citizens of Canada.
This thesis has a number of objectives. First, it intends to track the evolution of citizenship policy in Canada from 1945 to the present time, with a particular focus on the changes made to the citizenship education system. Secondly, an assessment of the adequacy of the changes made to the citizenship education system will be conducted, focusing primarily on whether or not those changes have provided newcomers to Canada with the knowledge and skills necessary to be active and informed citizens. Finally, suggestions will be offered as to how citizenship education programs can best provide new Canadians with a more well-rounded quality of citizenship.
The evolution of citizenship policy and the assessment of the changes made to citizenship education from 1945 to the present time reveal a number of findings, with many of them pointing to citizenship education policy and programming in Canada as being inadequate. The findings identify a lack of political leadership and financial resources provided for citizenship training initiatives, as well as a painfully basic citizenship education curriculum provided for newcomers to Canada.
The central contention of this thesis is that the federal government regards citizenship education as little more than a short-term goal. In other words, the priority is to speed up the processing of newcomers rather than to develop good citizens. Immigrants are provided with basic knowledge and language skills, but are largely left to fend for themselves once official citizenship has been attained. This short-term focus has resulted in a diminution of the quality and importance of Canadian citizenship and has impaired the ability of new citizens to feel comfortable participating in Canadian society.
The significance of these findings is that policy makers need to develop a long-term citizenship education strategy that focuses on providing long-term benefits to new citizens to Canada. Such a strategy will help to maximize the potential contributions of the growing immigrant population to Canadian society and will provide much needed clarity of roles and responsibilities to citizenship education service providers and instructors.

Karių tarpkultūrinių kompetencijų ugdymas kariuomenės multikultūrinio mokymo procese / Developing Soldiers Intercultural Competence in military cross- cultural education

Butautienė, Jolita 16 September 2009 (has links)
Šiame magistro darbe nagrinėjamos karių, vykdžiusių tarnybą užsienio šalyse tarpkultūrinės kompetencijos. Darbo tikslas- remiantis teoriniu karių tarpkultūrinių kompetencijų modeliu empiriškai ištirti karių, dalyvavusių multikultūrinio ugdymo procese, tarpkultūrinių kompetencijų raišką. Išanalizavus mokslinę literatūrą sudarytas teorinis karių tarpkultūrinių kompetencijų modelis bei karių kompetencijų raiškos lygmenys, kuriais remiantis naudojant kokybinį tyrimą analizuojami tyrimo duomenys ir atskleidžiamos karių multikultūrinio ugdymo spragos. Gauti tyrimo rezultatai patvirtina hipotezę, kad tarpkultūrinių kompetencijų trūkumas apsunkina karių sėkmingos trumpalaikės integracijos į kitą kultūrą procesą. / This paper researches intercultural competence of soldiers, who were employed in foreign countrys. The aim is to measure and evaluat the level of expression of intercultural competences by soldiers, who participated in military cross- cultural education, with reference to a theoretical model of soldiers intercultural competence. By analizing academic literature was designed a model of soldiers intercultural competence and build an expression criteria. On the ground of these criteria by using a qualitative reasearch method, study data was analized and lack of military cross- cultural education detected. The research confirmed a hypothesis that, a lack of intercultural competence is a barrier for successful short- time integration of soldiers in to a different culture.

Storytelling with cultural tools: children’s engagement with features of oral traditions in First Nations cultural education programs

Allen, James William 14 August 2013 (has links)
This dissertation presents a comparative case-study of how two groups of culturally diverse elementary school students engage with particular forms of narrative practice shared by cultural educators through First Nations cultural education programs. The project develops the argument that different cultures afford different symbolic resources useful in “structuring” and “organizing” experience for individuals and that one important way in which these “possible worlds” are shared in a community is through storytelling. To develop this argument the project was structured around two main research questions: 1) what are the forms and functions of narrative practices that children experience during the First Nations cultural education programs? And 2) how do children “echo” and “transform” these narrative practices through their participation in the narrative activities organized around the programs? Participants in the project were two First Nations cultural educators conducting cultural education programs in public schools who participated as research partners, as well as 16 students from a grade 1 classroom (Class A) who participated in the first educator’s program and 15 students from a grade 4 classroom (Class B) who participated in the second educator’s program. Data for this project came from a multiple sources and analysis focused especially on stories told from the cultural educators during their programs as well as retellings of these stories from students in the two classrooms. Additional data was included from interviews and discussions with the cultural educators and student participants, field notes on the cultural education programs, and the classroom communities, as well as discussions with classroom teachers. This additional data was integrated into the project at various points to support interpretations. An ethnopoetic or verse analysis (Hymes, 1981, 1996, 2003) of stories told by the cultural educators revealed recurring patterns in the stories that both educators employed for particular rhetorical effects. In addition, these patterns revealed a number of “cultural features” of the storytelling performances that the educators used to emphasize specific points, to make parts of the stories especially memorable for the audience and to share lessons with the audience. Verse analyses of students’ story-retellings revealed a number of ways in which these students echoed and transformed these cultural features and made use of them to share the meaning or lesson of the stories. Finally, comparative analyses of story-retellings from the differently aged students in the two classrooms through a number of analytical frameworks showed that the retellings from grade 4 students were more complex in a number of ways, but also that students in both classrooms skillfully employed these different forms of narrative resources. The results reported in this study suggest that students were making use of the space provided in the cultural education programs to explore particular forms of narrative practice shared by the cultural educators and that they were making use of these narrative resources in meaningful ways. / Graduate / 0620 / jwallen@uvic.ca, james_w_allen@hotmail.com

Kulturell fostran : En didaktisk studie av talet om kulturella relationer i texter om skola och utbildning / Cultural Education : On Cultural Relations in Texts about School and Education

Brantefors, Lotta January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to clarify different ideas about cultural relations expressed in the Swedish curriculum, and the potential consequences they may have for children and young people to participate as peers in social and public life. Located at the intersection of a (neo)pragmatic curriculum theory tradition and cultural studies/critical pedagogy, the ambition with the study is two-folded: (1) to clarify the theoretical conditions for cultural relations from an ethnocentric, global, and multicultural perspective and (2) to elucidate and describe the curriculum historical preconditions for cultural relations. In relation to perspectives and analytical tools developed in paper I-III, the investigations show that the cultural thinking in education rests on a liberal and humanistic view with a polite response and a neutral approach that never seems to exceed the comfort zone. A central finding is that there is a need to examine the priviliged position further. The study also demonstrates how the nature of cultural thinking has changed over time. Based on the dominant conceptions four discourses during 1962-2008 are distinguished: A National Discourse in the 60's, a Rational Discourse in the 70's, a Cultural Discourse in the 80-90's and a Pluralistic Neo-national Discourse in the 90-00's. The main conclusion is that despite different rationality the thinking never goes beyond a non-defined and unarticulated "we" and a designated, labelled and well-defined "them". The Swedish curriculum is a curriculum of othering that hardly provides the basis for relations where children and young people can participate as peers. To achieve a more reciprocal relationship, over-recognition of "the others" needs to be toned down, and the special status of the privileged position has to be analyzed in greater extent.
