Essa pesquisa busca problematizar as aproximações feitas pelas bibliotecas ao modelo adotado pelas livrarias, a partir do exame das singularidades próprias a cada instituição. Tendo por objetivo contribuir para a construção de referências conceituais e metodológicas necessárias aos processos de renovação e redefinição das bibliotecas - tendo em vista a demanda pela ampliação de novos públicos - buscaremos discutir as relações entre cultura e mercado, espaço público e cidadania e as dimensões educativa e formativa da biblioteca nos processo de mediação cultural. Para tanto, realizamos uma pesquisa de natureza exploratória em uma biblioteca de Paraisópolis que desenvolve um trabalho singular, no limiar entre educação e cultura, contrariando, assim, o modelo da difusão cultural empregado pelas livrarias, fundamentado no marketing cultural e na política de oferta. / This research, seeks to problematize the approach that are being made by libraries to the model adopted by bookstores, starting with the singularities examination of each institution. Aiming to contribute to the construction of conceptual and methodological references, which are necessary to the renewal and to the redefinition processes of libraries - in view of the demand for the expansion of new public - we will seek to discuss the relationships between culture and market, public space and citizenship, and the educational and the training dimensions of the library process of cultural mediation. To this end, we conducted an exploratory research on a Paraisópolis library that develops a singular work, on the threshold between education and culture, contradicting thus the cultural diffusion\'s model based on cultural marketing and supply policy - the model employed by libraries.

A velocidade com que as tecnologias da informação e comunicação digitais se atualizam e permeiam o cotidiano dos indivíduos e organizações demonstra a necessidade da investigação de questões conceituais na Ciência da Informação, campo fortemente afetado por elas. Este estudo exploratório busca compreender a mediação cultural frente à configuração de dinâmicas e práticas culturais emergentes nesse contexto social e sua imbricação com o advento das mídias sociais, suscitando diversas reflexões para traçarmos novas perspectivas e contribuições para um melhor entendimento do conceito e sua operacionalização na contemporaneidade. O espetáculo transmídia \"EU - Negociando Sentidos\", da ExCompanhia de Teatro, apresenta-se como disparador das problematizações levantadas pela presente pesquisa, já que ele integra elementos que atravessam as formulações téoricas, identificadas em revisão bibliográfica, sobre a mediação cultural, como também evidencia formas de manifestações culturais e artísticas desenvolvidas a partir do cenário citado acima. Dessa forma, ao interpretarmos o conceito de mediação cultural como um dispositivo foucaltiano, revelamos linhas de força que tensionam a sua relação com as mídias sociais: as diferenças entre informação e experiência, e entre interatividade e participação. A análise aqui empreendida revela que a utilização das mídias sociais em processos culturais encontra obstáculos tanto no provimento de uma experiência social autêntica, quanto na potencialização da participação dos sujeitos na cultura como produtores de sentidos. / The speed of digital information and communication technologies are updated and permeate the daily life of individuals and organizations demonstrates the need to investigate conceptual issues in Information Science, field strongly affected by it. This exploratory study seeks to understand cultural mediation in the context of emerging cultural dynamics and practices in this social context and its imbrication with the advent of social media, provoking several reflections to conceive new perspectives and contributions to better understand the concept and its operationalization in the contemporary world. The transmidial show \"I - Negotiating Meanings\", by ExCompanhia de Teatro, presents itself as a trigger for the problematizations raised by this research, since it integrates elements that cross the theoretical formulations, identified in a bibliographic review, on cultural mediation, as well as evidence forms of cultural and artistic manifestations developed from the scenario mentioned above. This way, when interpreting the concept of cultural mediation as a Foucaltian device, we reveal lines of force that stress its relation to social media: the differences between information and experience, and between interactivity and participation. The analysis carried out here reveals that the use of social media in cultural processes finds obstacles both in providing an authentic social experience and in enhancing the participation of subjects in culture as producers of meanings.

Este mosaico de experiências e percepções, legou à informações referentes à localização, dinâmicas cotidianas e descrições acerca da fisionomia e personalidade de grupos nativos. Face a essas colocações, o marcante nestas narrativas se deve ao fato de desvelarem as estratégias utilizadas por seus interlocutores a fim de criar laços de sociabilidade e, por assim dizer, alcançar o sucesso nos seus intentos particulares e vinculados à sociedade indigenista. Deste modo, John Henry Elliott, Joaquim Francisco Lopes e José Joaquim Machado de Oliveira, a partir de seus vínculos com o barão de Antonina, embrenharam-se pelos sertões meridionais a fim de mapear, descrever e catalogar dados referentes às rotas terrestres e fluviais que ligavam Curitiba ao Baixo Paraguai e, no decorrer deste processo, observar as formas, as cores, as gentes que coloriam as paisagens de seus (des)caminhos. Dialogando com os interesses e estratégias indigenistas, as representações delineadas por estes agentes revelam que a aproximação com os grupos nativos foi fruto de práticas ligadas à persuasão e brandura, as quais utilizavam-se de elementos tradicionais para mediar as situações de fronteira e contato intercultural. Partindo destes pressupostos, os instrumentos de mediação cultural oportunizaram não só o encontro e trocas entre universos distintos, como também, uma ressignificação ao papel criado às nações indígenas que, resultado do contexto social e político do oitocentos, era pensado de formas múltiplas, oscilando suas figurações no cenário nacional. Logo, dentro deste caleidoscópio, o objeto central é analisar as referências realizadas às nações indígenas e, mais do que isso, demonstrar os mecanismos de mediação cultural adotados para desenvolver e alicerçar alianças. Além disso, por meio destas descrições, podem-se revelar os sertões meridionais enquanto um espaço de possíveis diálogos e não só permeado de tensões, perigos e conflitos, como era comum se apresentar. / Thinking about the ways of interpretation and representation of indian nations, this research intends to investigate some travel itineraries published in Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute Magazine, known as Southern Journeys. This collection of experiences and perceptions bequeathed data about the native group's localization, daily dynamics and descriptions referring to the physiognomy and personality. Therefore, it's remarkable in these narratives, the fact that they reveal the strategies used by their interlocutors to create social bonds and, so to speak, succeed in their personal attempts linked to the indigenous society. Thereby, John Henry Elliot, Joaquim Francisco Lopes e José Joaquim Machado de Oliveira, stem from their relationship with the Baron of Antonina, enter the southern backwoods in order to map, describe and catalog data regarding terrestrial and fluvial routes that connected Curitiba to the Lower Paraguay and, in the process, observe the shapes, the colors, the peoples that color those landscapes in their paths. Dialoguing indigenous interests and strategies, the representations outlined by these agents reveal that the approach with the native groups was a result of practices related to persuasion and mildness, witch, used traditional elements to mediate the boundary situations and intercultural contact. Stem from these suppositions, the instruments of cultural mediation enable not only the gathering and exchanges between different universes, as well as a resignification of the role given to the indigenous nations that, as a result of the social and political context in the 1800's was thought in multiple ways, oscillating its figurations in the national scenario. Hence, in this kaleidoscope, the main objective is to analyze the references made about the indian nations and, more than that, demonstrate the mechanisms of cultural mediation adopted to develop and support alliances. Moreover, through these descriptions, it's possible to reveal the southern backwoods as a space of potential dialogues and not only permeating tensions, dangers and conflicts, as it was commonly reported.

Esta tese reafirma a importância das trocas de experiências intergeracionais na qualificação de processos de construção de conhecimento e cultura, na contemporaneidade, a partir do desenvolvimento de um dispositivo educacional e cultural - a Oficina intergeracional - em uma instituição que atende crianças e jovens, na comunidade de Paraisópolis, situada na região sul da cidade de São Paulo. A pesquisa foi realizada com base nos pressupostos da metodologia colaborativa, onde os sujeitos são compreendidos e tratados como criadores de conhecimento e cultura que atuam em associação com o pesquisador, construindo ações em conjunto em torno do objeto comum das trocas intergeracionais. Ao promoverem a interrupção nos fluxos cotidianos habituais dos membros de diferentes faixas etárias da comunidade de Paraisópolis e do PECP (Programa Einstein na Comunidade de Paraisópolis), as oficinas intergeracionais promoveram e permitiram a emergência e a recriação de uma corrente de saberes e fazeres que constituem, dão apoio, conferem, constroem e reconstroem identidades, signos e práticas relacionais e culturais. O encontro da saberes e fazeres intergeracionais, somados à articulação de saberes e fazeres científicos, profissionais e da experiência pode constituir-se em caminho para a instauração de novas e promissoras relações entre informação e significação, preservando e valorizando processos de apropriação e criação de conhecimento e cultura na \"era da informação\" / This thesis reaffirms the importance of intergenerational exchange of experiences in the qualification of construction processes of knowledge and culture, in contemporaneity, based on the development of an educational and cultural mechanism - the Intergenerational Workshop - in an institution that assists children and youths in the community of Paraisópolis, located in the southern region of São Paulo. The research was based upon the assumptions of the collaborative methodology, where the subjects are understood and treated as creators of knowledge and culture that act in association with the researcher, building actions together around the common object of the intergenerational exchanges. By promoting the interruption in the usual daily flows of members of different age groups of the Paraisópolis community and of the PECP (Einstein Program in the Paraisópolis Community), Intergenerational Workshops promoted and allowed the emergence and the recreation of a stream of knowledge and practices that constitute, give support, confer, reconstruct identities, signs and relational and cultural practices. In other words, the meeting of the intergenerational knowledge and practices, added to the articulation of scientific, professional and experienced knowledge and doings, can be the way for the introduction of new and promising relationships between information and signification, preserving and valuing creative processes of knowledge and culture in the \"information age\".

Pretende-se analisar a formação e apropriação de patrimônios culturais na cidade de Santa Rosa de Viterbo SP por meio dos discursos e ações de seus moradores. Observa-se que no Brasil as políticas patrimoniais privilegiaram a escala nacional e os critérios de técnicos e especialistas para definir o que é um patrimônio cultural. Desta forma, questionamos essa abordagem para desenvolver uma reflexão sobre o patrimônio local através dos seus usos pela sociedade. Propomos um modelo de intervenção que destaca as percepções e representações dos habitantes da cidade para definir os bens que são valorizados como símbolos de identidade e memória. A partir da história oral e trabalhos sobre mediação cultural, definimos métodos, como a realização de entrevistas e o retorno do material produzido, para promover uma relação com um grupo de moradores, registrando suas opiniões sobre o município e os bens que eles identificam como culturalmente relevantes. Com as transcrições das entrevistas e revisão bibliográfica, discutimos a história do município, privilegiando seus aspectos culturais e econômicos, e, por meio de quatro exemplos, que foram; a Banda Sinfônica de Santa Rosa, a Semana Universitária Santa-rosense, a Fazenda Amália e a Folia de Reis, analisamos os valores atribuídos a esses bens que nos permite classificá-los como patrimoniais. Como resultado, revisamos a ideia de divisão dos patrimônios em materiais e imateriais por compreendermos que todo bem cultural possui ambos os atributos. / It is intended to analyze the formation and appropriation of cultural heritage in the town of Santa Rosa de Viterbo SP through the speeches and actions of its residents. It is noted that in Brazil the heritage policies have concentrated on the national scale and in the criteria of technicians and experts to define what a cultural heritage is. Thus, we questioned this approach to develop a reflection on the local heritage through its uses by society. We proposed an intervention model that highlights the perceptions and representations of town residents to define the assets that are valued as symbols of identity and memory. Through oral history and cultural mediation works, we defined methods such as interviews and the return of the material produced to promote a relationship with a group of residents, recording their opinions about the town and the assets that they identify as culturally relevant. With transcripts of interviews and a literature review, we discussed the history of the town, emphasizing its cultural and economic aspects, and through four examples, which were the Symphonic Band of Santa Rosa, Santa Rosa University Week, Amália Farm and Folia de Reis; we analyzed the values assigned to these assets that allow us to classify them as heritage. As a result, we reviewed the idea of division of cultural heritage into material and immaterial because we realized that all assets have both attributes.

Esta pesquisa trata da formação continuada de Educadores Mediadores Culturais em ambientes informacionais educativos. A definição do objeto de pesquisa considerou a experiência de formação dos quadros de profissionais para o trabalho no dispositivo Estação do Conhecimento Einstein em Paraisópolis, na cidade de São Paulo. A partir dos referenciais da Infoeducação, abordagem de natureza histórico-cultural das relações entre Informação e Educação, a pesquisa objetiva identificar e sistematizar elementos teóricos e metodológicos para a formulação de um conceito de formação continuada, tendo em vista processos e práticas de mediação cultural pautados por princípios de apropriação e protagonismo cultural. Pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, toma como corpus de análise a documentação produzida nos programas e ações realizadas com grupos de educadores para a implantação do referido dispositivo informacional educativo, bem como coleta de depoimentos, por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas e grupos focais com os educadores. Como resultado, foi possível identificar três eixos em razão da mútua articulação exercida na formação dos Educadores Mediadores Culturais: a experiência, condição para abordar a complexidade da questão, a formação do profissional reflexivo considerado nas dimensões social e política e o ambiente da ECE como uma modalidade de dispositivo formativo que redimensiona os saberes e fazeres educativo-culturais dos educadores. Ao considerar a complexidade social e política frente ao campo da formação continuada de Educadores Mediadores Culturais, a pesquisa mostra, assim, os limites de concepções que entendem a formação como instância de padronização de práticas e avança no sentido de evidenciar o espaço formativo como locus de encontro entre saberes teóricos e os da ação - Universidade e terreno. É pela ruptura com um paradigma difusionista que se pode afirmar que a formação com o dispositivo ECE traz implicado em seu projeto educativo-cultural ações para o desconfinamento de sujeitos ao se apresentar como uma plataforma que projeta-os para a cidadania cultural. / This research deals with the continuing education of Cultural Mediators Educators in educational informational environments. The definition of the research object considered the education experience of professional staff to work on the device Einstein Knowledge Station (EKE) in Paraisópolis, in the city of São Paulo. Based on Infoeducation frameworks, an historical-cultural approach of the relationship between Information and Education, the research aims to identify and systematize theoretical and methodological elements for the formulation of a concept of continuing education, focused on the processes and practices of cultural mediation guided by principles of appropriation and cultural protagonism. Research of a qualitative nature, takes as corpus of analysis the documentation produced in the programs and actions carried out with groups of educators from educational informational device, as well as collection of testimonies, through semi-structured interviews and focus groups with educators. As a result, it was possible to identify three axes due to the mutual articulation exercised at the education of Cultural Mediators Educators: the experience, condition to address the complexity of the question, the education of the reflective professional considered in the social and political dimensions and the environment da EKE as a modality of formative device that resizes the educational-cultural knowledge and actions of educators. When considering a social and political complexity in the field of continuing education of Cultural Mediators Educators, the research thus shows the limits of conceptions that understand education as an instance of standardization of practices and advances in the sense of evidencing the formative space as locus of dialogue between theoretical knowledge and active - University and terrain. It is through the rupture with a diffusionist paradigm that it is possible to affirm that the education with EKE device brings implied in its educationalcultural project actions for the deconfining of subjects when revealing itself as a platform that projects them for cultural citizenship.

Este trabalho interroga a formação do bibliotecário como um mediador cultural, sujeito comprometido com processos de apropriação e de protagonismo cultural no país. A pesquisa parte da hipótese de que a mediação cultural, intrínseca à profissão de bibliotecário, é tratada de forma insuficiente e confusa em normas, diretrizes e orientações para a sua formação. Desenvolve pesquisa bibliográfica e documental para compreender e aprofundar questões em torno dos conceitos estudados. Identifica e analisa documentos orientadores que manifestam representações do profissional bibliotecário - manifestos da International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions e Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, a Ciência e a Cultura, além da lei brasileira que regulamenta a profissão de bibliotecário e de diretrizes do Ministério da Educação. Também desenvolve pesquisa documental em propostas brasileiras e francesas de cursos de mediação cultural - graduação e pós-graduação - no sentido de embasar a ideia do \"bibliotecário mediador cultural\", já que as propostas permitem inferir descrições de mediador cultural. Percebe que nas normas, diretrizes e nos documentos orientadores o bibliotecário não é colocado de forma clara como um mediador cultural, tampouco como negociador cultural, mas como um educador e difusor de cultura, que oferta serviços direcionados à assimilação e ao consumo cultural, deixando de responder à demanda da apropriação e protagonismo cultural. Considera que o desafio que precede todos os outros, para a formação do bibliotecário como mediador cultural, é o de refletir, discutir, teorizar e explicitar os conceitos de formação, superando a visão dualista (tecnicismo x humanismo, técnica x prática, fazer x pensar...) que vem orientando historicamente a Ciência da Informação e a Biblioteconomia. / This work interrogates about the formation of a librarian as a cultural mediator, a person committed to processes of appropriation and cultural protagonist in the country. The research starts from the hypothesis that cultural mediation, intrinsics to the occupation of librarian is treated improperly and confusingly in standards and guidelines for their training. It carries out bibliographical and documentation research to understand and deepen issues around the concepts studied. It identifies and analyzes prescriptive documents showing representations of professional librarian - manifest of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions and Unesco, as well as Brazilian law that regulates the occupation of librarian and guidelines Ministry of Education. It also develops documentary research in Brazilian and French proposals of cultural mediation courses - graduate and postgraduate studies -in order to support the idea of \"Librarian cultural mediator\", since the proposals allow us to infer descriptions of cultural mediator. It realizes that the standards, guidelines and policy documents librarian is not placed clearly as a cultural mediator, neither as a negotiator, but as an educator and diffuser of culture, that offer services aimed at assimilation and cultural consumption, failing to respond to the demand of appropriation and cultural protagonism. It considers that the challenge that precedes all others, for the formation of the librarian as a cultural mediator, is to reflect, discuss, theorize and explain the concept of formation, surpassing the dualistic view (technicality x humanism, technical x practice, do x think...) which has historically guiding the Information Science and the Librarianship.

Abstract Globalization is forcing many American college students to re-evaluate their perspective on foreign travel. If they are offered an opportunity to improve their cultural relativity skill set by immersing themselves into a new culture, the more astute students might choose to embark on that journey especially if it would result in resume enhancement. This paper focuses upon a group of twelve community college students' cross-cultural experiences, navigation techniques, and adaptation methods as student interns teaching conversational English in Changchun, China for a period of nine to thirteen weeks in spring 2011. Several areas of interest emerged from their experiences and observations to allow for pedagogical inquiry: the global divide between Chinese and American cultural and educational initiatives; utilization of social, economic, and cultural capital by some but not all participants; successful teaching methods to deal with different learning styles; and negotiation of identities to become effective teachers and cultural ambassadors. The body of analysis, conclusions, and interpretations sections identifies the successes and failures of the twelve subjects and suggests that there is importance to this ethnographic study for sociology and education scholars. The bottom-line significance becomes apparent as more future college graduates will be seeking work both inside and outside the US in education and business fields. As employers peruse college graduates' resumes for something substantially unique, a candidate who has lived and worked in an emerging foreign country can be a huge advantage for their career aspirations.
