Theodore Is Dying: From Development Through DistributionPomeranz, Ryan 01 January 2013 (has links)
Theodore Is Dying is a feature length film written and directed by Ryan Ceri Pomeranz. It was undertaken as a partial fulfillment of the requirements to receive a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Digital Media from the Department of Film in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Central Florida. The film aims to explore both the immediate and the long-term effects of choices made by four people at specific moments of demarcation in their lives. Structurally, the film is presented in an episodic and non- linear style that attempts to examine each protagonist’s own set of conflicts, while simultaneously exposing how the choices they make affect one another. The film’s production presented many unique challenges to our producing team, cast and crew such as shooting on location in Scranton, Pennsylvania, over one thousand miles from home and figuring out where to allocate funds from our “ultra-low” budget. These challenges were met head on and often times acted as catalysts for rethinking the way that films at our budget level could be produced. As a result, the following account of the making of Theodore Is Dying, from development through distribution, aims to contribute these ideas to the larger conversation about the role of Ultra-Low Budget Filmmaking in the modern filmmaking landscape

High School Athletic Directors Perceptions of Athletic Trainer's Professional Knowledge and Competence Based on AttireCunningham, Raechel N 01 June 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Very little research is available to identify how attire in the athletic training field impacts perceptions of professional knowledge and competence. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of attire on high school athletic directors’ perceptions of an athletic trainer’s professional knowledge and competence. The researcher emailed a questionnaire to ninety-four high school athletic directors from the state of California. The questionnaire measured the effect of attire on the perceptions of skills, knowledge, approachability, experience, education level, overall competence, and representation of an athletic trainer and focused on the difference between khaki attire, professional attire, and workout attire in relationship to perceived knowledge and competence. The respondents rated khaki attire highest followed by professional attire and workout attire when evaluating skills, approachability, overall competence, experience, and knowledge. Representation and education level rated khaki attire as the highest, followed by professional attire, and workout attire rated the lowest. These results indicate khaki attire as the most appropriate attire for high school athletic trainers to wear to achieve the highest perceptions of competence and knowledge from high school athletic directors.

The Pioneering Efforts of Ellen Larsen: The First Female Sports Information Director at Brigham Young UniversitySchlenker, Kiana 12 June 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Title IX began the change of integrating women's sports into universities, but it was up to each university's athletic administration, external media sources, and public relations practitioners to determine how female athletes and sports were supported and publicized. In 1976, Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah hired Ellen Larsen as its first female sports information director responsible for women's sports. Through her 19 years as a sports information director at BYU, Larsen was an advocate for her athletes and helped pave the way for future female athletic administration roles. While there is plenty of literature on male sports information directors, literature on female sports information directors is thin. Even less has been published on pioneer women in this role. This paper will tell the story of Ellen Larsen, BYU's first female sports information director, and describe her pioneering impact in the publicizing of women's athletics at BYU from 1976 to 1995.

Supervision of Special Education Instruction in Rural Public School Districts: A Grounded TheoryBays, Debora Ann 25 April 2001 (has links)
The grounded theory presented in this study describes how the supervision of special education instruction occurs in public elementary schools in rural settings. Grounded theory methodology (Strauss & Corbin, 1998) was employed in this study. Nine elementary schools in three rural districts in the state of Virginia participated in the study. Interview data were collected from 34 participants, including special and general education teachers, principals, and directors of special education. Observations were made in the schools and documents pertaining to the supervision process were collected. Data analysis allowed identification of categories and subcategories, processes, influencing conditions, strategies, and outcomes related to supervision, which contributed to the articulation of the theory. The grounded theory suggests that the supervisor's role is assigned to the principal. The principal negotiates among competing priorities and contextual factors while providing supervision. Competing priorities exist in three areas: (1) management and administration versus supervision; (2) monitoring for legal compliance versus supervision of instruction for students with disabilities; and (3) evaluation of teachers versus supervision of instruction. Contextual factors include systemic conditions such as enrollment size of school, time, and number of administrators. Contextual factors also include personal conditions such as knowledge of special education, definitions of special education instruction, and perceived competence of teachers. The outcome of negotiating competing priorities and contextual factors is a dispersal of responsibility for supervision to three groups of educators. Principals, as the primary supervisors, utilize three strategies to address supervision: (1) the observation/evaluation process; (2) supervision by wandering; and (3) open communication. Directors of special education have a supportive role in supervision through communication and collaboration with teachers and principals. Teachers provide some supervision when they mentor new teachers and serve as special education coordinators. / Ph. D.

LA IMPRESSION MANAGEMENT APLICADA A LA CONSTRUCCIÓN DE REPUTACIÓN PERSONAL Y EN LAS ORGANIZACIONES: EL CASO DEL DIRCOMJácome López, Rita 08 January 2016 (has links)
[EN] Numerous scientific studies have shown the importance and benefits of possessing a positive reputation at both the personal as well as organizational level. Specifically, the impression management theory is an important pillar in building personal reputation to everyday organizational life. Research in this area has demonstrated their interest in particular aspects such as recruitment processes, person-job fit, person-organization fit, job performance appraisal and career success.
Despite the importance of and interest in impression management theory (IM) and the need of organizations to develop a favorable reputation, to date there is no evidence about the influence IM techniques may have on building personal reputation. Nor is there existing empirical evidence of the potential impact that personal reputation may have on the reputation of the organization as a whole. Therefore, examining the relationship between IM, personal reputation and corporate reputation could shed some light on the processes of building reputation in organizations, and particularly its development in the case of communication managers. To this end, this thesis has the objective of studying IM and its dimensions, presenting it as an antecedent of personal reputation (PR) and presenting the relationship between PR and corporate reputation (CR).
To achieve this objective, the research is divided into five chapters. To begin, it is summarized an overview of IM theory. After this state of the art, an integrated definition of the construct is presented. Then, in the second chapter, we examine what the current literature has explained to date about PR in order to relate it to the IM theory. Next, in the third chapter, we analyze the different theoretical perspectives under which the concept of CR has been studied. After studying IM and proposing its relationship with PR and CR the fourth chapter shows a relational model of reputation from the theory of IM that is able to put in dialogue the three constructs (IM, PR and CR). To conclude, the fifth chapter presents a qualitative empirical study based on the grounded theory. The objective is to answer the propositions that emerged from the relational model presented, particularly in the case of Spanish communication managers (DirCom). Finally, the thesis concludes with some reflections on the findings of this research, noting the limitations of the study and proposing avenues for future research.
