[pt] O presente estudo tem como foco investigar os sonhos (para os quais os gregos empregavam três diferentes palavras: oneiros/oneiron, onar e enupnion) e suas incursões nos diálogos de Platão. Dentre os aproximadamente vinte e oito diálogos raramente considerados apócrifos, em dezoito deles encontramos numerosas incidências à irrupção do sono e ao processo do despertar, à formação dos sonhos, bem como ao problema da diferenciação entre sonho e vigília, motivo pelo qual consideramo-las preocupações filosóficas caras a Platão. Embora esta tese tenha como objetivo geral apresentar um panorama das menções aos sonhos ao longo do corpus platônico, nossa investigação concentra-se sobretudo em seis diálogos e suas respectivas tematizações dos sonhos: Teeteto, Cármides, República, Apologia, Críton e Fédon. O nosso objetivo específico, por sua vez, consiste em compreender a doutrina do filósofo a partir destas incursões, visto que, como veremos, se, por um lado, mostrar-se-á evidente a dificuldade de encontrar um critério capaz de discernir ilusão e realidade, sonho e vigília, à hipótese platônica das formas imutáveis será atribuído importante papel nesta distinção. Em paralelo, encontramos nos dramas filosóficos alguns relatos de sonhos que Sócrates sonhara, os quais, com a ajuda do próprio sonhador, somos levados a investigar. Junto a isso, observamos ainda a influência das concepções mitológicas homérica e hesiódica dos sonhos sobre a concepção platônica deles, bem como a sua própria reinvenção filosófica. / [en] The present study focuses on investigating dreams (for which the Greeks used three different words: oneiros/oneiron, onar and enupnion) and their incursions into Plato s dialogues. Of the approximately twenty-eight dialogues rarely considered apocryphal, in eighteen of them we find many incidences to the irruption of sleep and the process of awakening, to the formation of dreams, as well as to the problem of the differentiation between dream and wake, which is the reason why we consider them philosophical concerns dear to Plato. Although the general objective of this thesis is to propose an overview of the mentioning of dreams throughout the Platonic corpus, our investigation focuses mainly on six dialogues and their respective thematizations of dreams: Theaetetus, Carmides, Republic, Apology, Crito and Phaedo. Our specific aim is to understand the philosopher s doctrine through these incursions, since, as we shall see, if, on the one hand, it shall be made evident the difficulty of finding a criteria capable of discerning illusion and reality, dream and wake, to the Platonic hypothesis of immutable forms an important role in this distinction shall also be assigned. In parallel, we find in these philosophical dramas various accounts of dreams that Socrates had dreamed, which, with the help of the dreamer himself, we are led to investigate. In conjunction with that, we also observe the influence of the Homeric and Hesiodic mythological conceptions of dreams on the Platonic conception of them, as well as his own philosophical reinvention.

Teoretical part is dealing with the most important terms related to motivation and life dreams, also there is specific period and issues with perspective orientation. Practical part concerns with essays about life plans of respondents and following interviews. The main goal is to point out the life dreams of current generation. What will also be mentioned is how to achieve those goals and what restrictions is the generation most afraid of. Gained results will be compared to other researches dealing with similiar subject.

Droomontleding: `n opvoedkundig-sielkundige hulpmiddel vir insig in die emosionele probleme van adolessente

The purpose of the study was to determine whether dream analysis, as an educational psychological means, can provide insight into adolescent emotional problems. Hence, a literature study was done on adolescent emotional problems, on dreams and on dream analysis. Several classical and contemporary theories on dreams and dream analysis were analysed to design a model for dream analysis. A qualitative study, with five adolescent girls with emotional problems, followed. Data gathering included recorded dreams, interviews, diaries, a personality test, (the Emotions Profile Index), a projection medium (Three Wishes) and the above-mentioned model for dream analysis. Findings indicated that dream analysis can provide insight into adolescent emotional problems, revealing the intrapsychic world of the individual. Emotional problems that were revealed by the dream analysis, are anxiousness, aggression, a negative self-concept, feelings of being socially isolated and depression. Compensatory as well as regulatory functions of dreams were revealed by the empirical investigation. / Die doel van hierdie studie is 0om te bepaal of droomontleding, as 'n opvoedkundig-sielkundige hulpmiddel, insig in adolessente emosionele probleme kan verleen. 'n Literatuurstudie oor adolessente emosionele probleme sowel as drome en droomontleding is dus gedoen. Verskeie klassieke en kontemporere teoriee oor drome en droomontleding is ontleed om 'n model vir droomontleding te ontwerp. Dit is gevolg deur 'n kwalitatiewe studie met vyf adolessente dogters met emosionele probleme. Data-insamelingstegnieke het die volgende ingesluit: droomverslae, onderhoudvoering, dagboeke, 'n persoonlikheidstoets (die Emotions Profile Index), en projeksiemedium (Drie Wense) en bogenoemde model vir droomontleding. Die bevindinge het getoon dat droomontleding insig in adolessente emosionele probleme verleen deurdat dit die intrapsigiese wereld van die individu blootle. Emosionele probleme wat deur droomontleding blootgele is, het angs, aggressie, 'n negatiewe selfkonsep, belewing van sosiale isolasie en depressie ingesluit. A obra escrita de Tarkovski e o filme O Espelho são analisados à luz da teoria psicanalítica da interpretação dos sonhos articulando conceitos vindos de outros campos do conhecimento, quais sejam inconsciente ótico e choque em Walter Benjamin. O filme se passa em lugares do passado de Tarkovski, evocados a partir de lembranças encobridoras, sonhos e devaneios, em que o cineasta é espectador e ator. Há a referência, no título e ao longo das cenas, ao espelho, também usado por Lacan, como modelo de dispositivo ótico, ao teorizar sobre a formação da função do “Eu”. Através desta análise, pretendeu-se aproximar a linguagem do filme à linguagem do sonho, encontrando conteúdos oníricos latentes. São analisadas as filiações e influências, o roteiro, e aquilo que fala nas lembranças de infância, nos sonhos e devaneios associados às tradições culturais russas, ao poeta Puchkin e a Dostoievski. Identificam-se aspectos do pensamento utópico e articulações psicanalíticas na cena do devaneio do personagem Ignat. Também são comentadas articulações à estética do choque em Walter Benjamin, nas cenas de déjà vu de Ignat e no fenômeno análogo que acometeu Maria na cena da tipografia. O conceito de Outra cena, do campo freudiano, é contextualizado na discussão do filme e também cotejado com elementos da teoria platônica apontados por Lacan em seus seminários. Finalmente, a cena de levitação de Maria é comparada com a cena da pintura de Füssli The Nightmare e interpretada como sendo de um sonho de angústia. / Tarkovski's written work and the film The Mirror are analyzed in the light of psychoanalytic theory of interpretation of dreams being articulated with concepts from other fields of knowledge, such as optic unconscious and shock at Walter Benjamin’s writings. The film takes place somewhere in Tarkovski’s past, evoked from screen memories, dreams and daydreams, in which the filmmaker is a spectator and an actor at a time. There is a reference, in the title and throughout the scenes, to the mirror, which is also used by Lacan, as the model of an optical device, in theorizing about the formation of the function of the "self". Through this analysis, it was intended to approximate the language of the film to the language of the dream and find latent dreams contents. The affiliations and influences, the script, and what he talks about in the memories of childhood, the dreams and daydreams associated with Russian cultural traditions, the poet Puchkin and Dostoyevsky are analyzed. We identify aspects of utopian thinking and psychoanalytic articulations in the scene of Ignat's daydream. Similarly, articulations among the aesthetics of the shock in Walter Benjamin, in the déjà vu scenes of Ignat and in the analogous phenomenon that rushed Maria in the typography scene are also commented in this work. The concept of Other scene, from the freudian field, is contextualized in the discussion of the film and also compared with elements of the platonic theory pointed out by Lacan in his seminars. Finally, the levitation scene of Mary is compared to the painting scene of Füssli The Nightmare and interpreted as being of a dream of anguish.

O presente trabalho é uma proposta de leitura e investigação do teatro estático O Marinheiro, de Fernando Pessoa, cuja ideia é estabelecer uma reflexão acerca dos problemas intrínsecos a este teatro que recusa a ação em prol do falar errante das Veladoras. A proposta deste estudo é perceber de que modo a fala cumpre, no teatro estático, a tarefa de aperfeiçoamento da linguagem dramática a partir do pensamento do inexequível trazido pela concepção pessoana de sonho. Sob tal perspectiva, esta escrita abordará questões como a concentração da ação o mais possível na fala das Veladoras; o sonho como potência artística criadora na modernidade; e a linguagem como assombro e dúvida, cuja ironia latente se revela nas concepções de fala e sonho dentro da economia de O Marinheiro / This work presents the reading and investigation of the static theater O Marinheiro, by Fernando Pessoa, in which the idea is to establish a reflection of the problems that are intrinsic to this theater, which refuses the action towards the Veladoras wandering speech. The present study intends to perceive the ways through which speech achieves, in static theater, the task of improvement of the dramatic language through the thought of the unattainable brought by the Pessoan conception of dream. Under this perspective, this work will approach questions such as the concentration of the action the most possible on the Veladoras speech; the dream as artistic creative power in modernity; and the language as stupefaction and doubt, whose latent irony is revealed in the conceptions of speech and dream in O Marinheiros economy

The Forgotten: Narratives of Los DREAMers in Arizona

abstract: The purpose of this study is to give voice to five Arizona DREAMers. The assumption is that DREAMers have developed unique strategies as a means to navigate the education highway and ethos of Arizona laws that are seldom positive. These five stories represent a very small sampling of the many DREAMers that dot the landscape of Arizona. Their stories are important to add to the collection of literature that already exists on this topic because Arizona DREAMers confront far more challenges due to the anti-immigrant laws that have prevailed despite federal law changes. DREAMers are neither monolithic nor a homogenous group; each individual carries a unique story that merits hearing and may shed light on the reasons why most have opted to stay in a state that has so passionately rejected them despite progress in other states. It may also illuminate the benefits Arizona stands to give by accepting DREAMers as contributing members of society and may even enlighten the state public on the benefits of passing a major comprehensive immigration reform. The scope of this project is designed to highlight the personal challenges these five DREAMers face in Arizona, a state that has consistently used discriminatory treatment and purposefully created roadblocks through the creation of draconian laws. Former Governor Brewer has repeatedly labeled DREAMers as an economic drain on the state's educational system and has stated the Dream Act is nothing but "backdoor amnesty" and political pandering by the Democratic president. Despite all the negative rhetoric, this Arizonan cohort has not given up on their dreams. Their determinations and strengths are the focus of this project. Narratives will enable the DREAMers' stories to be told through their own voice through semi-structured and in-depth interviews with each of the students, transcribing the interviews with subsequent coding and analysis. The results will be organized into major and minor sub themes to give strength to the stories. Chen Yi's Song Set As in a Dream: The Merging of Chinese and Western Musical Idioms

abstract: In an interview with the author, composer Chen Yi shared thoughts regarding her inspiration to compose the piece As in a Dream. She composed the first version in 1988 for soprano, violin, and cello. Left unpublished, this work was re-done in 1994 with the Chinese instruments zheng and pipa in place of the violin and cello. As in a Dream is a setting of two linked poems of six lines each by Qingzhao Li, one of the earliest female poets in China. Chen Yi kept the voice part the same in the two versions, but adapted the accompaniment to suit the Chinese instruments. This study of As in a Dream focuses on the 1994 version, and especially on the first song, with a view to introducing the singer to its Chinese elements. To help performers to understand better the text of the set, a translation and transliteration of the two poems by Qingzhao Li are offered with line-by-line interpretation. An introduction to the history and characteristics of the zheng and the pipa is supported by examples of the uses of these instruments in the songs. Drawing upon information provided by Chen Yi in the interview with the author, a discussion follows of Mandarin speech tones and their effect on the melodic design of As in a Dream, with music examples. An examination of traditional Beijing Opera styles of singing, with insights provided by Rao Lan, the soprano for whom the work was written, leads to a description of the fusion vocal technique required for performance of As in a Dream and some of the rules for diction in Mandarin Chinese. Intended as an introductory guide for the soprano contemplating performance of Chen Yi’s As in a Dream, this study also reveals the combination of Eastern and Western musical characteristics in these songs and gives examples of how the music interprets the veiled meaning of the poetry. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2015

“My Life Is So Not Interesting:” Identity Development of Adolescent Minority Girls at an Urban High School

abstract: This study examines the identity development of young women in the context of an urban high school in the Southwest. All of the participants were academically successful and on-track to graduate from high school, ostensibly ready for “college, career and life.” Life story interviews were co-constructed with the teacher-researcher. These accounts were recorded, transcribed and coded for themes related to identity development. The narrative interviews were treated as historical accounts of identity development and, simultaneously, as performances of identity in the figured world of the urban high school. The interviews reflected the participants’ ability to create a coherent life story modulated to the context of the interview. Generally, they used the interviews as an opportunity to test ideas about their identity, or to perform an ideal self. Several key findings emerged. First, while content and focus of the interviews varied widely, there was a common formulation of success among the participants akin to the traditional “American Dream.” Second, the participants, although sharing key long term goals, had a diverse repertoire of strategies to achieve their goals. Last, schooling, both informal and formal, played different roles in supporting the women during this transition from childhood to adulthood. Results indicate that multiple pathways exist for students to find success in US high schools, and that the “college for all” narrative may limit educators’ ability to support students as they create their own narratives of successful lives. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Educational Psychology 2016

The hermeneutic value of the Daseinsanalytic approach to dream interpretation in psychotherapy: a case study

The purpose of this study was to investigate the hermeneutic value of the Daseinsanalytic approach to dream interpretation in the process of psychotherapy. After delineating the Daseinsanalytic view on dream interpretation, with emphasis on the conceptualization of Medard Boss, the study explores the usefulness and validity of the case study as a method of investigating the content and process of psychotherapy. A psychodynamic formulation of the presenting problem is based on the conceptualization of the nature and etiology of neurosis as delineated by Andras Angyal, with particular reference to the pattern of noncommitment. The dreams included in the case material are then examined to determine to what degree they facilitated insight into the subjective experience and phenomenological existence of the dreamer, and what effect the dream interpretation based on the Daseinsanalytic approach had on the process of therapy. It is established that a phenomenological understanding of the client's dreams corresponds with his subjective experience of his emotional and existential condition, and that positive changes in the content of the dreams during the course of therapy correspond with overt, observable changes in his behaviour, ideation and mood. Based on these findings, the case study leads to the conclusion that the Daseinsanalytic approach to dream interpretation has hermeneutic value in the process of psychotherapy.

Através da observação e análise do corpus percebemos as características mais relevantes desse espetáculo, e, consideramos a demanda pela interatividade e a busca pela visibilidade de sua importância no processo comunicacional midiático. Observamos, ainda, que, como qualquer outra empresa, as emissoras televisivas e seus produtos midiáticos também buscar adequar-se à realidade que desponta. Estamos diante de um cenário voltado à emoção das histórias e deixando paulatinamente a lógica da Sociedade da Informação, cujas raízes estão voltadas `a própria informação. Para tanto, a mídia busca seduzir o público através de narrativas construídas em que o como prepondera em detrimento de o quê se informa / The present dissertation aims to demonstrate the transition between the Information Society to the Dream Society, denominated by Jensen (1999), which has already started to print its marks. Therefore, we used a corpus and object of study the TV program Fantastico, from Rede Globo. It seemed pertinent to follow the journey of this TV program to understand the shape of the spectacle produced by the media. By observation and analysis of the corpus, we noticed the most relevant characteristics of this spectacle, and, we consider the demand for interactivity and the need for visibility fairly important in the communicational process of the media. We observed that, as any other company, the television channels and their products also make efforts to be adapted to the reality that comes. We are facing to a scenery which focuses in the emotion of the stories and leaving the logic of the Information Society, which roots are focusing to the informatin. Therefore, the media seeks to seduce the audience through built narrative where how preponderate in relation to what is informed
