Verskyningsvorme van die plaasroman in Afrikaans

Lubbe, Hansie Jacoba 01 1900 (has links)
Summaries in Afrikaans and English / The aim of this dissertation is to analyse those poems in which the image of the knife, el cuchillo, appears in the collection El rayo que no cesa, by Miguel Hernandez. The poet manifests his all-encompassing tragic view of life by means of this recurring negative symbol. The poetry of Miguel Hernandez is autobiographical: The universal themes of nature, love and death reveal a close link between the course of his life and the evolution of his poetry. El rayo que no cesa is central to the evolution of Hernandez's poetry: it is the product of the crisis of conscience that propelled the poet toward a radical change of world-view. The book reveals his frustration with love within the rigid norms of the society of his time. The poet expresses his bitterness by means of destructive images such as knife, sword, and ray/flash, images that project the tragic fate that threatened his entire existence. / Afrikaans and Theory of Literature / M.A. (Afrikaans)

Aspects de moyen et long termes dans la genèse et l’évolution des Troubles Musculo- Squelettiques au travail : une recherche dans l’industrie aéronautique / Medium and long term aspects of the genesis and evolution of Work-Related Musculo-Skeletal Diseases : a research in the aeronautics sector

Buchmann, Willy 24 June 2013 (has links)
This research aims at studying the genesis and evolution of Musculo Skeletal Diseases (MSD) in a company belonging to the aeronautics sector. We put forward a formalization of our results, examined through the prism of 1. Regulations elaborated by the workers, 2. Wear and tear phenomena, and 3. Sheltering processes for workers suffering from serious joint diseases. We have therefore built a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach, associating studies at the workshop level (ergonomic job analyses, diachronic interview carried out with the participation of company’s job physician, reconstitution of professional courses of workers reallocated because of health disorders) and a statistical approach, using the “Evrest” Observatory, undertaken in this industrial group from 2000 on.Our results provide a view of the genesis of MSD, suggest avenues for prevention, encourage to build a memory inside the company, and to analyze activity (at the micro level of workstations, as well as at company level) without separating past, present, and future periods.

The proliferation of mosquitoes vectors of (re)emerging pathologies on the Mediterranean coastline and in the French Departments of America : environmental and health issues

Mieulet, Elise 03 December 2015 (has links)
In France, the human-mosquito relationship and the mosquito control policies show differentiated stories and features from one territory to another. Thus,if in FDA mosquitoes never ceased being epidemic factors, however,on the Mediterranean coast until recently they no longer represented a Health risk.Indeed,in the FDA,since their implementation, mosquito control campaigns have always been conducted for a sanitary purpose through vector control campaigns.Meanwhile,in metropolitan France, aiming to reduce the nuisance, these policies were initially implemented to ensure the inhabitants comfort. But,starting from 2004,following the durable installation of the Asian tiger mosquito on the French Mediterranean coastline and the progressive widening of its distribution area, the context evolves and, from now on,the metropolitan France is potentially exposed to health risks hitherto circumscribed to tropical areas.Mobilising the theoretical frameworks of environmental, health and risks sociologies, and based on a corpus gathering qualitative (311 interviews and direct observations) and quantitative data (1415 questionnaires),this PhD analyses the recombining of the relationship between environmental and health challenges in light of the vector mosquitoes proliferation. It initially focuses on the place and status of the insect within the different populations. Then, the socio-economic factors influencing the individual vulnerability of exposure to the insect are studied. The third part is devoted to the expectations and requests of the inhabitants regarding the public management of the mosquitoes’ proliferation. Finally, a diachronic analysis centered on the Alps-Maritimes region is developed.

Představy o počátcích národů v historické kultuře 14. a 15. století. / The notions about the origins of nations in 14th and 15th century historical culture.

Bažant, Vojtěch January 2020 (has links)
Vojtěch Bažant, The notions about the origins of nations in 14th and 15th century historical culture, Ph.D. thesis, Institute of Czech History, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague 2020 The thesis offers an analysis of narrative structures in medieval historiography about Czech and Hungarian history, more specifically in historiography either created or read and rewritten in the 14th and the 15th century. The research is focused on a variety of narratives of the origins of nations, i.e. on stories retelling the Confusion of Tongues, the search for land and the building of a homeland, the establishment of a new society and, finally, the Christianisation of the tribe or people. Individual medieval historical works are treated as literary narratives, not as sources to be exploited for a reconstruction of historical events or of the context in which the chronicles in question were created. In this scope, the thesis examines individual narrative motifs as well as the entirety of the narrative; motifs are interpreted in their relation to the whole narrative while the chronicles and histories are approached as both meaningful stories and stylized narrations of these. The discourses on Czech and Hungarian histories are not construed in developmental terms; individual historical texts are rather...

Fonologiese en morfologiese beskrywing van Lobedu

Kotze, Albert Ewald 28 May 2015 (has links)
Between Verb and Preposition: Diachronic Stages of Coverbs in Mandarin Chinese

Jones, Glynis 03 April 2023 (has links)
Mandarin Chinese has long been known to possess a category of words known as ‘coverbs’ in the literature, which sit in the gray area between verb and preposition. Li and Thompson (1974) describe the historical origins of Mandarin coverbs to be full transitive verbs, despite their modern state being decidedly less verbal. They also note that coverbs are a non-homogenous class. This thesis works to establish categories of coverbs in Mandarin Chinese and their distance from true verbhood in order to understand the diachronic shift that coverbs are currently undergoing before our very eyes. I will draw on the work of scholars of Atlantic-Congo languages, Oceanic languages, and other languages of mainland Southeast Asia, to create semantic, syntactic, and morphological testing for Mandarin coverbs. Using the results of this three-pronged testing approach, I will map the results on a six-pointed verb-preposition matrix in order to visualize the space between verb and preposition and how Mandarin coverbs inhabit it. I will then use these diagrams to create a numerical score for each category of coverb and place them on a linear progression between verbhood and prepositionhood. Lastly, this work will analyze the theta roles assigned by Mandarin coverbs in each category and propose stages of diachronic development for Mandarin coverbs.

The Many Layers of Sergei Parajanov : A Life’s Work Reprised

Strohmeyer, Anna January 2022 (has links)
Abstract This thesis examines the various biographical threads, which created the complex fabric of Sergei Parajanov’s life and work, especially his films. His origins, education, marriages, family life, and friendships forged in film school and in the various studios, where he worked, are used to frame his cinematic productions. However, the most novel features of this study result from an examination of his letters from prison and the artistic output, drawings, collages, scripts/scenarios, assemblages, etc., created in the gulag and outside during the time that he was denied the right to make films. An argument is made that the Soviet authorities jailed him as a dissident although he never considered himself one, being rather simply an honest creative individual, who would not abide the censoring or redaction of his work. His homosexuality was the pretext for Soviet authorities to incarcerate him, but Parajanov’s queerness has been almost completely omitted from purportedly authoritative memoirs and biographies meant to capture the late filmmaker’s legacy. These publications written by Soviet and post-Soviet critics, Parajanov’s close friends, and numerous confidants make a deliberate effort to erase his self-professed queer identity. Foreign aficionados of his work, on the other hand, have little hesitancy acknowledging his queerness. My research centers on Parajanov’s queer identity as the underlying source of his bold and innovative artistic output.

Modality on trek : diachronic changes in written South African English across text and context / G.P. Wasserman

Wasserman, Gertruida Petronella January 2014 (has links)
This study describes the diachronic development of modality in South African English (henceforth SAfE) from the early 19th century up to its contemporary state (1820s to 1990s) in the registers of letters, news, fiction/narrative and non-fiction, on the basis of the theoretical framework of socio historical linguistics and the empirical approach of corpus linguistics. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses are conducted for modal and quasi-modal verbs, by means of the newly compiled historical corpus of SAfE and ICE-SA (with the addition of Afrikaans corpora for comparison). The study explores general frequency changes, register-internal changes and macro- and micro semantic changes, with the focus of the main semantic analysis more strongly on the obligation and necessity cluster1. A set of parameters is compiled for analysing the strength of obligation in the modals must and should, and the quasi-modal HAVE to, and is applied in the micro semantic analyses. The findings are compared with the trends for modality in other native English’s, such as American, British and Australian English (cf. e.g. Mair & Leech, 2006; Collins, 2009a; Leech, 2011), in an attempt to present a complete and comprehensive description of SAfE modality, as opposed to the traditional approach of focusing on peculiar features. It is reported that the trends of modality in SAfE correspond to those of other native varieties in some cases, but do not correspond in others. The modals of SAfE for example have declined more and the quasi-modals have increased less over the 20th century than in other native varieties of English. One particular case, in which SAfE is reported to be unique among other varieties, is the quantitative and qualitative trends for must, which has some implications for the manifestation of the democratisation process. Must in SAfE has not declined significantly over the 20th century (as it has in other native varieties) and has become less face threatening, since uses with a median (weaker) degree of force are just as frequent as those with a higher degree of force by the 1990s (unlike in other native varieties, where must has become restricted to high-degree obligative contexts). Based on socio historical, as well as linguistic evidence (on both quantitative and qualitative levels), language contact with Afrikaans is posited as the main influence for the increased use of must in contexts that are not face threatening. Extrapolating from the semantic findings, some new insights are offered regarding the phase in which SAfE finds itself within Schneider’s (2003) model of the evolution of New English’s, and some support is offered for Bekker’s (2012:143) argument that “SAfE is ...the youngest of the colonial varieties of English”, especially in the Southern Hemisphere. Ultimately, this thesis offers a piece in the larger puzzle that is SAfE, both in terms of linguistic (textual) and socio historical (contextual) aspects. / PhD (English), North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2014
