We tried to confirm the validity of a teaching strategy based in the dialectics tool-object that creates the conditions for the introduction of that concept starting from knowledge that the students already possess. With that I aim at, we developed and we applied a didactic sequence based in situations-problem for students of the eighth grade of the Elementary School grade in that concept it is usually introduced in our education system. To base the elaboration of that sequence we developed a study about: the mechanisms used by the individual for objects mathematician's manipulation, trying to understand which strategies involved in that manipulation and how is the appropriation of that knowledge; the form with that that concept should be worked with our students, according to the vision of official documents, and the way with this concept is treated in some collections of text books; how was the historical development of the mathematical knowledge that allowed the formulation of that concept, which the ideas involved in that formulation. The elaborated sequence is presented and analyzed in the fourth chapter of that dissertation. That analysis occurs in two stages, one before the sequence application, analysis a priori, trying to understand the operation of each activity, which the necessary knowledge for the accomplishment and which objectives that we wanted to reach. The second analysis is accomplished after the application of the activity, analysis the posteriori. In this part we described how the development was, which the difficulties presented by the students and which the reached objectives. Finally, in the fifth chapter, we developed a general analysis looking for answer the subjects of formulated research, taking as base them analysis accomplished in the previous chapter / Este trabalho parte da constatação das dificuldades apresentadas pelos alunos na utilização do conceito de função como ferramenta na resolução de problema. A seqüência elaborada é apresentada e analisada no quarto capítulo desta dissertação.

Herbert Marcuse: utopia e dialética da libertação / Herbert Marcuse: utopia and dialectics of liberation

Barros, Joy Nunes da Silva 08 December 2009 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Joy Nunes da Silva Barros.pdf: 1110129 bytes, checksum: 096a3a4e8b29a8c8976bb8423bc16205 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-12-08 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / The present dissertation mainly aims at analyzing the concept of utopia in the work of Herbert Marcuse, taking as a guiding hypothesis the assertion that the faith Modernity has in the progress brought by clarification seems to have faded and therewith the great projects of social emancipation will no longer find a place in directing political struggles in modern times. This hypothesis will be analyzed in the light of Marcusean thinking, perceiving it as a consequence of what the author denominated one dimensional society, a social configuration, product of the development of Modernity, which has been able to absorb all forms of thinking that are contrary to it and impose itself as the only reality possible. Thus, the issue that directs the development of this master s thesis is the endeavor to clarify the philosophical status that the concept of utopia occupies in Herbet Marcuse's thinking, which has close ties with Hegelian Dialectics, as well as the correlation between utopic thinking and political action from the perspective of the Frankfurt philosopher / A presente dissertação tem como objetivo principal analisar o conceito de utopia na obra de Herbert Marcuse, tomando como hipótese norteadora a asserção de que a fé ostentada pela Modernidade no progresso trazido pelo esclarecimento parece ter se esmorecido e com isso os grandes projetos de emancipação social passam a não encontrar mais lugar no direcionamento das lutas políticas no tempo hodierno.

Adorno, crítico dialético da cultura / Adorno, dialectical critic of culture

Lima, Bruna Della Torre de Carvalho 09 June 2017 (has links)
This dissertation aims to comprehend the nature of Theodor W. Adornos critique of culture and how it distinguishes itself from different models arising from cultural critique and from sociology of culture. For this purpose, the dissertation presents a series of Adornos analyses of culture, which begins in the 1930s, especially in his debate with Walter Benjamin concerning art and politics. It sought to understand how this debate suffered an inflection due to Adornos exile in the United States, where the concept of culture industry would be conceived and out of which his critique of radio, cinema and television and of the mode of social integration in late capitalism were delineated. Through the presentation of other moments of Adornos work, such as literary critique, aesthetics and philosophy, it sought to demonstrate the complementarity of different moments which, together, allow us to glimpse a dialectical critique whichs consequence is the sublation of the very concept of culture.

Marins, Alexandre Ricardo 31 January 2013 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-27T14:31:04Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Alexandre Ricardo Marins.pdf: 1391947 bytes, checksum: bf47fa1ce4da493868ed3eba613d4f71 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-01-31 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The contemporary world has been facing many social contradictions associated with deep and overwhelming crises. As a result of such crises, we can observe a growing disengagement with the process of emancipatory humanization, in other words, instead of an emancipated consciousness, there is in fact a strengthening of oppressive, deteriorating conditions concerning life and human dignity. Besides all the problems caused by such crises, education has also suffered the oppression imposed by the ruling classes which try to impose their ideologies through educational programs that alienate and legitimize the maintenance of the status quo according to their concerns. Abandoning the commitment to reflection and the domain knowledge, school politics began to support this scenery. Facing these issues, and based on the ideas of Theodor Adorno, this dissertation analyzes Adorno s views about the meaning and scope of critical thinking for human emancipation, identifying the alienation elements in the educational environment that prevent such emancipation. We also discuss his ideas to overcome them. To develop this study, we worked with a qualitative research, applied on a group of graduating high school students from a model public school in the State of Minas Gerais. As a result, we present a discussion of the most important topics we came across: the relationship between alienation, education and work; the dialectics concerning the reified consciousness; the relationship between education and power; the role of critical thinking in education / O mundo contemporâneo tem presenciado diversas contradições sociais que estão associadas a crises profundas, difíceis de serem superadas.

BUDWEISER IN THE 2017 SUPER BOWL: DIALECTIC VALUES ADVOCACY AND THE RHETORICAL STAKEHOLDER

Windholz, Benjamin P. 01 January 2018 (has links)
Organizational-public relations discourse is changing given the advent of social media, and corporate statements are evaluated under different criteria in the digital age. Grounding Budweiser’s response to controversy over their 2017 Super Bowl advertisement in terms of consumer expectations for corporate social responsibility provides a new perspective for approaching Bostdorff and Vibbert’s (1994) conceptualization of values advocacy. This study recognizes the power of the rhetorical stakeholder, a discursively created public, and demands re-evaluation of the values common to society from a co-creational OPR perspective. Conceptualizing dialectic values advocacy outlines the changing values among contemporary, common stakeholders as well as the means for communicating these values superficially to promote unanimity among publics and organizations. Previously successful universal values like unity and patriotism have since been replaced with sensationalism and discord; formally engendering these values through ambiguous controversy allows an organization to strategically construct audience perceptions of reputation.

Between Us and Them: Deconstructing Ideologies behind the Portrayal of Saudi Women in Canadian Media

Dahlan, Kinda 10 August 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate binary discourses of self and other constructed by Canadian media in the representation of Saudi women. One of the modest aims of this research is to expound on the status of centralized media coverage in Canada. Drawing on Hegel’s model of dialectics, as framed by Edward Said’s Orientalism (1978) and David Nikkel’s conception of a moderate postmodernism, this research also aims at contributing to the ongoing modern-postmodern discussion by delineating and examining the ways in which dialectical analysis can aid in the deconstruction of metanarratives in Western culture. Utilizing a qualitative research design that employs multidimensional modes of textual analysis, the thesis examined the changes in the portrayal of Saudi Women through a non-probability sampling of 88 Canadian newspaper articles selected from the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, and National post between 2001-2009. One major finding was that the metanarratives guiding these representations did not change significantly despite changes in narratives as brought about by several major political events. The implications of this thesis revealed what the ideological influences framing these depictions, as well as whether or not the changes that they have undergone, were self-reifying in nature. The research also highlighted the implications resulting from assessing the ontological identities of Saudi women vis-à-vis a Western framework of values.

Between truth and traume : the work of art and memory in Adorno

Dolgoy, Rebecca C. 09 1900 (has links)
En analysant les processus dialectiques par lesquels l’art repense le passé, Between Truth and Trauma : The Work of Art and Memory work in Adorno traite du concept adornien de la mémoire. / Analyzing the dialectical processes through which art works through the past, Between Truth and Trauma: The Work of Art and Memory in Adorno examines Adorno’s concept of memory. I argue that, for Adorno, the work of art both has and is a Zeitkern (temporal nucleus). I demonstrate that the reciprocal immanence of history in the work and immanence of the work in history allows for the past to be worked through. The first chapter examines how the past is preserved and negated by the work of art. The second chapter examines how the past is transcended through the work of art via the interpretive process. The final chapter looks at Adorno’s reading of work by Beckett and Brecht in order to illustrate the ability of the work of art to navigate between truth and trauma.

The materiality of media discourse : on capitalism and journalistic modes of writing

Berglez, Peter January 2006 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to analyse the relationship between the capitalist hegemonic order and the mass media, with the latter restricted to two elite newspapers (Swedish DN and Slovenian Delo) and the selection of news materials from three bodies of international media coverage: NATO’s military intervention in former Yugoslavia, 1999, the political demonstrations against the IMF and the World Bank in Prague, 2000, and 9/11, 2001. There are two sub-purposes, one theoretical-methodological and one political-democratic. The first sub-purpose is to accomplish an integrative kind of media analysis (Williams 1977) in which the approaches of political economy (emphasising the economic/material) and cultural studies/discourse analysis (emphasising the symbolic/discursive) are supposed to interact. The hypothesis is that such a ‘third way’ approach is possible to achieve through the qualitative analysis of journalistic modes of writing. The second sub-purpose (the political-democratic one) takes an interest in the modes’ political dimensions. In what manners do the identified modes counter-act, or co-produce, miscellaneous political struggles? In addition, the purpose of the study also includes a more practical dimension. In the light of the results, how should one nowadays imagine an emancipating kind of journalism that tries to explain, unmask, or even counteract the mechanisms of the contemporary global capitalist system? The news media material consists of 438 items (articles, photos etc.), which are analysed by means of a cultural materialist CDA (critical discourse analysis). An identified journalistic mode is analysed as: (1) a practice with certain cognitive, discursive and linguistic characteristics, (2) a structural product (as constituted by underlying social and material structures), and (3) a dialectical force, being a potentially active part of an ongoing mode of production (the capitalist or another mode). The last analytical moment is the central one. Two categories of journalistic modes are identified. To begin with, the modes of de-permanence (The Remote control mode, Differentiation, Semiotic compression), which comprises modes that are part of the ‘new economy’, of reflexivity, individualism, consumption, mobility, and flexibility. The political dimension of these modes is that they counteract radical (leftist) politics by reducing emancipation, freedom, justice etc. to a matter of individualism and privatisation. The second category is the modes of permanence (Disconnection, Cognitive recycling), which involves an opposing structural dimension of the capitalist system: the production of reification, i.e. the repression of the complex nature of reality – how seemingly autonomous ‘things’ (spaces, objects etc.) are de facto interwoven with a ‘complex whole’ of various social, material, cultural, economic relations that are in constant motion. More precisely, the here identified modes reify and eternalise an explanatory structure (the modern division of explanatory labour), a particular power (the US) and a particular territory (the nation state), generating the impression that social reality works ‘as usual’ while repressing the complex network-like development of global capitalism and its impact on our lives. By sustaining these increasingly archaic structures, what is politically counteracted is the emergence of ‘the new’: transnational politics and democracy (Beck 1998). The analysis of modes (in total 8) furthermore demonstrates that Swedish DN is more integrated with the capitalist system than Slovenian Delo. The study emphasises the democratic importance of creating new journalistic modes endowed with a transnational journalistic epistemology that decisively include the reality of global capitalism in everyday (local) news reporting when covering and explaining social, political, cultural etc. issues.
