Solidaritet med djur är en av hörnstenarna i Miljöpartiets gröna ideologi och partiet uppfattas ofta som mer djurvänligt än andra riksdagspartier. Den här uppsatsen analyserar hur partiets djursyn artikuleras utifrån tre diskurser: djurskydd, ekologism och djurrätt. Uppsatsen har också ett kritiskt djurrättsligt perspektiv och intresserar sig för vilka möjligheter och hinder för djurens frigörelse som finns i partiets djurpolitik. Slutsatsen är att djurskyddsdiskursen är dominerande i Miljöpartiet men att partiet problematiserar dagens djurskyddslagstiftning och vill se ett ”verkligt djurskydd”. Det finns också en tendens till att djurskyddsdiskursen i kombination med den ekologiska diskursen håller tillbaka djurrättsdiskursen som är i det närmaste osynlig. I en avslutande reflektion föreslås att djurrättsrörelsen ska bli tydligare i sin kritik mot Miljöpartiets och samtidens intresse för närproducerat, kravmärkt och ekologiskt kött, samt att ekologismens djursyn behöver utmanas i högre grad. / Animal solidarity constitutes one of the cornerstones of the Green Party's ideology, and the party is often perceived as more animal friendly than other parties in the Swedish parliament. This thesis analyzes how the Green Party's perspective on animals are articulated through three discourses: animal welfare, ecology, and animal rights. Furthermore, the thesis utilizes a critical perspective and tries to discern opportunities and obstacles for animal liberation within the party's animal politics. The conclusion is that the animal welfare discourse is the dominating perspective within the Green Party, but also that the party problematizes the current animal welfare in their strive for "real animal welfare". There is also a tendency for the animal welfare discourse, combined with the ecology discourse, to obscure the animal rights discourse, the latter being more or less invisible. In a final reflection it is suggested that the animal rights movement should be more explicit regarding its criticism against the Green Party's and the contemporary's interest in local produce, KRAV-labeling, and organic meat, as well as the need to challenge the animal views of ecology to a greater extent.

Developed model for easier animal welfare assessment- with examples from dairy cows in loose housing Animals in captivity are completely dependent on human care. If captive animals are prevented from exhibiting their natural behavior, they may suffer. Animal welfare inspectors, who insure that the animal welfare legislation is followed, use a checklist to assess the situation in the husbandry. This checklist contains only two levels of assessment, which may result in a lack of detail in the assessment of the husbandry. The objective of this report was to develop a more detailed model that provides an overview of the situation in husbandry. The developed model was customized for dairy cows in loose housing with information from the animal welfare legislation, scientific results and advice from experts, and was then tested in four husbandries for dairy cows. The model was divided into five categories for which the assessment parameters were adapted. A rating scale with different colors and scores was developed to assess different qualities of husbandries and a control help text was made to facilitate the assessment. To illustrate the results they were placed in a pie chart. The major conclusion of this report is that a model like this works very well when the details of animal husbandry shall be shown. Besides that, a rating scale with more levels than those in the current checklist is necessary to develop an accurate overview of animal husbandries. A model like this can help the animal welfare inspectors to distinguish different types of animal keepers and thus optimize inspection procedures.

The interest in adopting imported stray dogs has increased in Sweden in recent years. There are different views on whether to adopt a dog from abroad or not due to different aspects regarding animal welfare problems. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to investigate whether there are differences in behavior and health problems between former stray dogs (FG) and Swedish dogs (SH). Three questionnaires were designed, of which two for dog owners of each dog type and one for veterinarians. In addition, experts in the field, veterinarian Johan Beck-Friis and animal behaviorist Linda Hill specializing in stray dogs, were interviewed. Dog organizations working with importing stray dogs to Sweden were also contacted, but due to a lack of answers, it was difficult to get a general view of them. FG did not appear to have any major behavioral differences compared to SH, except in the case of fear. Furthermore, SH had more health problems than FG according to the dog owners. On the other hand, the majority of the veterinarians considered that FG generally had more behavioral and health problems than SH.

Denna uppsats behandlar idéer och ideologier i två tidskrifter, Djurens rätt och Djurfront, utgivna av djurskyddsföreningen Nordiska Samfundet mot Plågsamma Djurförsök under 1970-talet. Uppsatsen syfte är att undersöka vilka idéer och ideologier som framkommer i tidskrifterna, det vill säga vilka värderingar och föreställningar om verkligheten som kommer till uttryck. För detta har jag använt mig av idé- och ideologianalys. Min teori består i en förståelse av språk och begrepp som uppbyggt och format av en antropocentrisk diskurs som särskiljer och upphöjer människan och det mänskliga från djuret och det djuriska. Vidare menar jag att detta får konsekvenser för hur en rörelse som ämnar ändra på djurens underordnade ställning hanterar begrepp som är kopplade till det mänskliga och begrepp som ställs i motsättning till det mänskliga enligt traditionella dikotomier.  Undersökningen visar att det i huvudsak finns två sätt att hantera bärande begrepp. Det ena är att tillskriva begreppen en delvis ny mening som är förenlig med syftet att förändra djurens status eller minska utnyttjandet av djur. Det andra är att peka ut olika begrepp som bärare av antropocentriska maktstrukturer, och därav ta avstånd från dem. Begreppen hanteras på olika sätt hos olika skribenter i tidskrifterna och i huvudsak kan vi finna två större omfattande ideologier. Den första kommer främst ur äldre djurskyddsrörelse. För denna linje är medlidande, empati, det andliga och subjektiva bärande begrepp. Den andra linjen som utvecklas och blir allt mer utpräglad under 1970-talet bemöter djurförtrycket med begrepp som generellt är i ett dualistiskt förhållande till den första linjen, däribland rationalitet, rättighet, vetenskaplighet och objektivitet. Begreppen frihet och frigörelse får också en viktig funktion för att förändra djurens status, vilket kopplar samman såväl den äldre linjen med den senare, då dem kopplas samman med begreppen rättighet och medlidande.
