Reconhecimento e emancipação na práxis social: a normatividade da ideia de justiça em Axel Honneth / Recognition and Emancipation in Social Praxis: The Normativity of the Idea of Justice in Axel HonnethOliveira, Joyce Santos de 09 October 2018 (has links)
A Political-Philosophical Exchange. / This study concerns the theme recognition, emancipation and justice in Axel Honneth\'s Critical Theory. With the analyze of some of the author \'s writing, it tries to understand the normative foundations on the relationship between justice and praxis. It aims an interdisciplinary approach on the conception of justice and the possibilities of its realization in social reality. The first chapter presents an outline of the Critical Theory framework of Horkheimer, Adorno and Habermas, and Honneth\'s criticisms of them in his doctoral thesis Kritik der Macht: Reflexionsstufen einer kritischen Gesellschaftstheorie. The second chapter delineates the assumptions and foundations of Honneth\'s theory of recognition presented on the book Struggles for recognition: the moral grammar of social conflicts. The third chapter deals with Honneth\'s idea of social justice and its relationship with redistribution, according to his arguments in the debate with Nancy Fraser in the book Redistribution or Recognition? A Political-Philosophical Exchange. The fourth and final chapter presents Honneth\'s theory of justice, which can be found in his works Suffering from Indeterminacy, The I in We, and Freedom´s right. In the end it presents some reflections on how Honneth\'s theory of justice represents a renewed approach about \"the just\", comparing to the contemporary liberal theories of justice, because justice is only possible when the conditions of intersubjective realization can happen in the three spheres of reciprocal recognition. In addition, it presents the potentialities and obstacles of this theory for a rapprochement to social praxis and the possibilities of emancipation.

Five case studies of Emirati working women in Dubai - their personal experiences and insightsGallant, Monica January 2006 (has links)
This ethnographic case study explored the insights and experiences of a small selection of working graduates from Dubai Women's College. Based on a literature review and a preliminary study, the following themes were identified and employed as stimuli for discussion: the balance between work and family responsibilities, gender issues in the workplace, issues of power relationships for women, coping with restrictions in an Arabic Islamic environment, reasons for work, and sources of influence and satisfaction. The research utilized feminist post-structural theory to collect the data and then analyze and interpret the comments made by the women. Self-reflexivity and transparency of the positionality of the researcher were critical in this research that relied on an unstructured personal interview approach. The research resulted in a rich description of the thoughts and concerns of five diverse women. Through discourse analysis, the dominant socio-cultural discourses in the areas of gender, marriage, kinship, ethnicity, meritocracy, materialism and religion that women interact with in this cultural environment were identified. The extent to which the women take up, disrupt and challenge these discourses was also explored with a view to suggest ways to 'better' women's lives. Implications of this study include an agenda for increased emancipation of women by greater freedom of choice through self awareness and the development of potential strategies to support empowerment.

This essay explores the intertextual qualities in and between Kristian Lundberg’s works Yarden, Mörkret skulle vara som ljuset and Och allt skall vara kärlek. Read as a trilogy, it bears a thematic resemblance to Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy; an autofictional depiction of emancipation from alienation by grace. To reach this conclusion, I use Julia Kristeva’s theory of intertextuality and Roland Barthes’ post-structuralist differention of Work and Text together with his notion of the Paper-Author. Through a kaleidoscopic reading of the two trilogies, Dante and Kristian become pilgrims in the word’s true, etymological sense: foreigners, both religious and materialistic. As such, they walk the spiritual and material world making no distinction between the two towards a love whose essential nature is twofold: at once human and divine.

Maturation Of Shavian Women: A Study Of The Maturation Processes Of Female Pratogonists In Pygmalion And Mrs. Warren' / s ProfessionDortkulak, Funda 01 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
ABSTRACT
MATURATION OF SHAVIAN WOMEN: A STUDY OF THE
MATURATION PROCESSES OF FEMALE PRATOGONISTS IN
PYGMALION AND MRS. WARREN' / S PROFESSION
M.A., Department of English Literature
May, 2009, 112 pages
George Bernard Shaw is a celebrated playwright for his depiction of emancipated
women. His women, regardless of the conditions they are in at the beginning of the
play, experience a maturation process in the flow of the events and especially
discussions which direct the change in his characters. In this thesis, the maturation
processes Vivie Warren and Eliza Doolittle experience are analyzed in the plays
Mrs. Warren' / s Profession and Pygmalion, respectively. Vivie is a typical Shavian
heroine who is educated and free-spirited even at the beginning of the play. At the
end, she chooses to start a professional life breaking with the domestic and social
boundaries by rejecting to see her mother or marry Frank. Likewise, Eliza, who is a
simple flower girl at the beginning of the play, seems to bear the free spirit Vivie
has because she earns her living and makes her own decision of taking phonetics
courses, which causes the events in the play to take place. At the end, she rejects
marrying to support her life and chooses to pursue phonetics as a profession to earn
her living. As a result, her free-spirited personality leads her to her maturation
process. In this study, it is concluded that no matter what their starting point is, both
Shavian women bear the characteristics of New Woman at the beginning of the play
which facilitates their progress into New Women at the end of the plays.
