Determinants which Influence the Consumers’ Green Purchasing Intention : “AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF CONSUMERS’ BUYING INTENTION TOWARD ECO FRIENDLY PRINTERS IN THE SWEDISH MARKET”

Young et al.(2009) report a gap in customers’ buying habits which is referred to a value action gap. This value action gap is typically where customers are concerned about environmental issues but have a hard time interpreting it when making a purchase. In the same way, Peattie and Crane (2005) report that there has been a slight growth on green purchasing since 1990, they also identified a significant gap between concerns and actual purchasing among customers. Datta (2011) states, it is important to increase people’s environmental awareness and consciousness, because as customers, they can impact the environment through their positive purchasing decisions. Datta (2011) further argues that the growing number of customers and consumers who prefer and are willing to buy Eco-friendly products are creating opportunities for businesses that are using “Eco-friendly” or “environmentally friendly” as a component of their value proposition . Considering the fact that printers produce carbon foot prints (Lubick, 2007), the authors have decided to conduct their research on the consumers’ purchasing gap towards Eco printers in Swedish market. Thus, the purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the factors which can influence consumers’ green purchasing intention. More specifically, it aims to find and analyze the factors that can influence consumers’ green purchasing intention towards buying an Eco printer in the Swedish market.  Therefore, the following research question has been formulated: What factors can influence the consumers’ green purchasing intention towards buying environmentally friendly printer? In this thesis both primary and secondary data have been used to establish its findings. A questionnaire of 201 respondents was analyzed to answer the research question. In conclusion the authors h found that there are several determinants which can influence the green purchasing intentions. Among these determinants, green knowledge and Eco literacy, attitude and green belief, environmental laws and guidelines and willingness to pay are indentified as strong influencing factors while demographics found as less stronger factor. However, subjective norms and social influence found as a weak one.

Para tanto, delimita-se, analisa-se e reflete-se sobre a relação entre processo, ato decisório e juiz, e sobre a relação entre Educação Ambiental, conflito jurídico e sentença transformadora, tomando acórdãos do Tribunal de Justiça do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul como objeto de estudo. Usa-se o movimento recursivo, dialógico e reflexivo para a elaboração da pesquisa, que inicialmente é bibliográfica, e depois, analítica. A metodologia escolhida para analisar os julgados é a análise textual discursiva, porque possibilita a emergência da consciência ambiental do julgador. Os resultados obtidos são reveladores da consciência ambiental do julgador de forma a promover sentenças transformadoras, demonstrando a interação necessária entre o Direito e a Educação Ambiental, pois os julgados proferidos com consciência ambiental formam um repositório jurisprudencial, que pode ser usado em outros casos contextualizados, bem como servir para aprendizagem pelas mais diversas carreiras jurídicas. Portanto, as compreensões obtidas a partir da consciência ambiental dos julgadores são aspectos sugeridos na resolução dos conflitos em torno de questões ambientais como fatores reconstrutores das decisões judiciais que, ao promover a efetividade processual, possibilitam também a garantia constitucional do direito fundamental ao meio ambiental. / The revealing of environmental consciousness in the transforming sentence as a device for procedural effectiveness intends to find out whether the sentences that solve environmental litigations have basis or not on an environmental consciousness of the judge. For this purpose, the relation among procedure, sentence and judge, and the relation among Environmental Education, law litigation and transforming sentence, are delimited and analysed as from judgements by the Justice Court of the State of Rio Grande do Sul taken as study aims, by means of recursive, dialogic and reflective approach. The study begins as bibliographic research and afterwards becomes analytical. The method is the discursive-textual analysis, since it allows of the environmental consciousness of the judge to arise. The outcomes reveal the environmental consciousness of the judge in order to foment transforming sentences, and demonstrate the necessary interaction between Law and Environmental Education, since those sentences establish a jurisprudential repository that may be useful for further litigations in their context, and for training in several juridical careers. Therefore, the findings from the environmental consciousness of judges are suggested for solution of environmental litigations as reconstructing factors of sentences that give constitutional grant of the fundamental right of safe environment, when such sentences foment procedural effectiveness.

Bakgrund och problem: Under de senaste 20 åren har en global oro växt kring konsumtionens påverkan på miljön. Faktorer som den globala uppvärmningen, hål i ozonlagret samt katastrofer som Tjernobyl var några av drivkrafterna. Historiskt börjar nu den gröna marknadsföringen att framträda på marknaden. Den delades in i tre faser varav en fas representerar marknadsföring av miljövänliga produkter, designade för att främja en hållbar konsumtion (Mishra & Sharmra, 2012). Det är dock under 2000-talet som konsumenternas miljömedvetenhet leder till en ekologisk trend och livsstil. Forskare menar att ekonomisk tillväxt är den bidragande faktorn till ett ohållbart utnyttjande av jordens resurser. Således ligger framtiden i effektivisering, återvinning och ny miljövänlig teknologi för att resurserna ska räcka till. Allmänheten i industrialiserade länder är väl medvetna om de negativa effekter som deras konsumtionsbeteende har på miljön. Den ökade kunskapen bidrar till en efterfråga på ekologiska varor. De ekologiska produkterna skapar nya möjligheter för differentiering och konkurrensfördelar för företag. Men är inom klädbranschen en minoritet då konsumenternas etiska värderingar inte sammanfaller med deras prioriteringar vid ett klädköp. Problemet stärks ytterligare då klädindustrin är byggt på komplicerade system där produktionen består av lågkostnads kläder som produceras i kostnadseffektiva länder. Företag måste se över modegrad och kvalitet vid produktion av ekologiska kläder.

This paper approached the knowledge about environmental history [defended by Worster] to the historical scholar knowledge, with the intention of propitiating learning opportunities for a study inserted in the everyday coastal life. This approximation was done through artistic works from the historical, social, cultural and environmental point of view. It tried to verify the understanding about the environment coming from the students of the first year in high-school, with ages between 14 to 15 years old in the city of Bertioga-SP. Passing by a process of intervention in the History classes, where the researcher was also the teacher who is guided by the principles of the art / education proposed by Ana Mae Barbosa, some reproductions of paintings from the artist Benedito Calixto were used. What interested in Benedito Calixto‟s works was the thematic linked to the paintings of landscapes (natural and marine), in special the creations of the beginning of the twentieth century. After the intervention adjusted to the teaching of research-action expressed by Thiollent, the students dedicated themselves to the development of their artistic skills when they created visual poetic forms, based on photographs, for, this way, show in an artistic way the interaction between the man ant the environment. Some of these photographs served as a disclosure to the process of environmental degradation and the decrease in quality of life, other photographs were used as a way to value the natural beauty that are still preserved. With this, it was verified through questionnaires that appeared new comprehension in what was understood about the environment. For the analysis of the investigation in a qualitative order, the method Bardin was used, that, when classified categories using unities of register, it permitted a safer interpretation and made it easier the decisions during the intervention. This way, it was possible to find out that the experiences of art / education developed with the students made it possible the enrichment of the history classes and offered conditions that helped the construction of the environmental consciousness of the students involved. / Promover a sensibilização e a construção da consciência ambiental nas aulas de História foi a finalidade deste estudo, procurando aprofundar o conhecimento do que já existe nas relações entre História, Paisagem, Pintura de Paisagem e Meio Ambiente. Aproximou os conhecimentos da história ambiental [defendidos por Worster] ao saber histórico escolar, com a intenção de propiciar oportunidades de aprendizagem para um estudo inserido no cotidiano da vida litorânea. Essa aproximação se deu por meio de obras artísticas do ponto de vista histórico, social, cultural e ambiental. Procurou verificar o entendimento sobre meio ambiente por parte dos alunos do 1º ano do ensino médio, com idades entre 14 e 15 anos, de uma escola pública estadual da cidade de Bertioga-SP. Passando por um processo de intervenção nas aulas de História, onde o pesquisador é também o professor e norteado pelos princípios da arte/educação propostos por Ana Mae Barbosa, foram utilizadas algumas reproduções de pinturas do artista Benedito Calixto. O que interessou das suas obras foi as temáticas ligadas à pintura de paisagens (natural e marinhas), em especial as criações do começo do século XX. Depois da intervenção, ajustada aos ensinamentos da pesquisa-ação explicitados por Thiollent, os alunos se dedicaram ao desenvolvimento de suas habilidades artísticas ao criarem formas poéticas visuais, a partir de fotografias, para, então, revelar de forma artística as interações do homem com seu meio. Umas serviram como denúncia dos processos de degradação ambiental e diminuição da qualidade de vida, outras como formas de valorizar as belezas naturais que ainda estão conservadas. Com isso, verificou-se, através de questionários, que surgiram novas compreensões do que se entendia por meio ambiente. Para a análise das investigações, de ordem qualitativa, utilizou-se o método de Bardin, que, ao classificar categorias utilizando unidades de registro, permitiu uma interpretação mais segura e facilitou as decisões durante a intervenção. Desse modo, foi possível constatar que as experiências de arte/educação desenvolvidas com os alunos possibilitaram o enriquecimento das aulas de História e ofereceram condições que auxiliaram a construção da consciência ambiental dos educandos envolvidos.

全球各地出現許多警訊,顯示我們已經進入氣候變遷的年代。台灣近五十年來經濟快速成長,國民所得大幅提高,但在追求經濟高速成長的過程中,卻忽略了環境的保護,使這美麗之島環境迭遭污染,自然生態也被嚴重破壞。1992年聯合國於巴西召開「聯合國環境及發展會議」,通過「21世紀議程(Agenda 21)」,並於第四章「改變消費形態」中提出「促進減少環境壓力和符合人類基本需要的消費和生產形態」,認為要達到環境素質和永續發展的目標,就需要提升生產效率和改變消費形態,以便最妥善地利用資源和盡量減少浪費。而綠色消費的觀念,正是改變消費模式,以降低天然資源、毒性物質之使用及污染物排放,其目的在追求更佳之生活品質並不影響後代子孫的權益。 本研究主要探討新北市環保志工環境意識、消費態度與綠色消費之關聯,根據研究目的,並經由文獻探討、問卷調查及深度訪談的綜合分析,來瞭解環保志工對於綠色消費之態度與環保標章產品購買意願。 本研究發現:環境意識與綠色消費具有顯著正相關,消費態度與綠色消費具有顯著正相關。環保志工的環境意識及對環境的敏感度都高於一般民眾,尤其女性志工因心思細膩,所以環境敏感度更優於男性。本研究最後在政策執行層面提出了短、中、長程的建議,提供政府機關參考。 關鍵字:環境意識、消費態度、綠色消費、環保志工 / A lot of alarm signals have shown globally that we are entering an age of climate changing. Taiwan has experienced a rapid economic growth and a significant increasing of average income in recent fifty years. But at the same time, the high speed development in economic growth was achieved at the expense of environmental damage. This beautiful island has been polluted and nature environment has been seriously destroyed. In 1992, the United Nations held UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During this conference, Agenda 21 has been passed with regards to sustainable development. In Chapter four, Changing Consumption Patterns, one of the objectives is “[t]o promote patterns of consumption and production that reduce environmental stress and will meet the basic needs of humanity.” Under such a guideline, it is stated that to achieve environmental protection and sustainable development, all nations should be devoted in increasing production efficiency and changing consumption patters, so that all resources can be used appropriately and decrease over-consumption. The notion of green consumption is to change consumption patterns to decrease the over-consumption of natural resource and toxic material, and the emission of polluted material. It aims to achieve a better life quality without damaging the rights of our off-springs. This research focused on the relationship between environmental consciousness, consumer attitude and green consumption of environmental volunteers in New Taipei City. Based on research objective, this research used literature review, questionnaire, and in-depth interview to understand consumer behavior of environmental volunteers in green consumption and green mark products. The findings of this research includes that environmental consciousness is positively related to green consumption. Comparing to common population, environmental volunteers have higher grades in environmental consciousness and sensitivity upon environments. Female volunteers were found to be more sensitive than male ones in such issues owning to their tenderness. The last chapter of this research provides short, medium, and long term operational suggestions for government administration. Att bli miljömedveten : Perspektiv på miljöhandbokens textvärld

This dissertation is the study of environmental consciousness as a discursive educational project. The empirical material consist of 18 environmental handbooks that have been published in Sweden during the years 1976-2007 of which 13 appeared between 1988 and 1995. The research work uses the basic assumptions of discourse analysis, namely that language is an important factor in the construction and development of social norms and values. Three areas recieve close attention: questions relating to the form and content of the handbooks, questions relating to the social circumstances in which the handbooks were produced and questions relating to the overall educational significance of the handbooks. In the first instance, the handbooks are examined in the light of three different contextual stories. They can be read as part of wider discussions of environmentally-concsious life-styles, as a development of earlier Swedish discussions about domesticity, health, thrift and consumption, and, finally they can be read as an expression of a narrative about a dominant aspect of modernity – science. The second part of the research work comprises an examination of the handbooks in terms of their audience and educational purpose. What kind of individual is to be shaped by these handbooks? What is anticipated as the desired or ideal environmentalist? Discourse analysis suggests that, collectively, the handbooks project an image of somone who displays qualities of motivation, investigation and judgement. They should be motivated to begin a process of change in their lives, to encourage others to do the same, and to adopt the environmental problems as their own personal problems. The second quality pursued in the handbooks is of someone who should take an active stance towards the environment as a pervasive element in their way of life. They should, therefore, adopt an investigative attitude to the surrounding world, cultivate certain cognitive properties such as watchfulness, thoughtfulness and being suspicious, and constantly ask questions about their surroundings with a view to understanding how actions in their private world has an effect on the wider world. And thirdly, the ideal environmentalist citizen should be someone who demonstrates judgement in balancing polarities and resolving the claims of different standpoints. They should give attention to separating right from wrong, wisdom from madness and, above all, to finding a way of linking their own efforts to what is worth striving for and what is worth avoiding or neglecting. In summary, the subjects identified in the handbooks are expected to avoid extreme positions, to place their own expectations about sustainability on a suitable level, and to be prepared for failure and feelings of guilt. The final part of the investigation – interpreting the wider significance of the handbooks – uses a pluralistic model of analysis which takes its departure from three concepts – ecological modernisation, governmentality and the risk society. Using these orientations, the extent of the discursive educational project of the environmental handbooks is highlighted. If the handbooks are regarded as modernist prescriptions, they are texts which highlights slow and careful change taking place within the present power structure of society. If they are regarded as texts that offer a governmentality prescription, they can be read as texts which promote the transformation of everyday micropractices. And if they are regarded as prescriptions for a risk society, they are texts which enable readers to come to terms with confusion and powerlessness in a complex and risky social context. One main result is that the environmental handbooks display interesting similarities, worthy of futher exploration, supported by a broadened empirical base.

The increasing levels of comfort have caused an increased electricity consumption over the last couple of years, leading to an increase in carbon dioxide emissions. At the same time, the interest and awareness regarding sustainability and climate change is growing, imposing a pressure on companies to incorporate sustainable businessmodels in their business. While the new levels of comfort might be difficult to change, bringing awareness to one's consumption and its' impact is still possible and can bedone through an Eco-Feedback Technology. However, this requires an understanding of the users' environmental consciousness and willingness to adapt their behaviour. To understand the effect that the environmental consciousness has on the design of an Eco-Feedback Technology and the risks and benefits said technology may pose on abusiness, interviews were conducted and a survey was distributed to gain an understanding of the environmental consciousness of the users of an video creationservice. The results were analysed using theoretical frameworks concerning environmental consciousness and the value-action gap. Additionally, experiments were conducted to calculate the environmental impact of the video creation process. The results indicated a high overall environmental consciousness amongst the users. However, the consciousness was found to be lower regarding the impact of electricity consumption and video creation. This suggests that the consciousness is dependent on the context of the users and the three aspects of consciousness should be viewed separately too, upon which the Eco-Feedback Technology should be adapted. Additionally, the users were not fully convinced an increased awareness would cause a behavioural change, suggesting a gap between attitude and action. The two mainbarriers for the gap were identified as lack of information and shift of responsibility which should be targeted by the Eco-Feedback Technology / Den ökande nivån av komfort i samhället är en av orsakerna till en ökning av elektricitetanvändningen de senaste åren, vilket har lett till ökade koldioxidutsläpp. Samtidigt växer intresset och medvetenheten gällande hållbarhet och klimatförändringar i samhället vilket sätter press på företag att integrera hållbara affärsmodeller i företaget. Trots att den ökade komfortnivån kan vara svår att förändra går det ändå att öka medvetenheten kring ens konsumtion och dess effekter, vilket är möjligt genom en Eko-Feedback Teknologi. Detta kräver dock en uppfattning av användares miljömedvetenhet och vilja att förändra deras beteende. För att undersöka effekten av miljömedvetenhet på designen av en Eko-FeedbackTeknologi samt eventuella risker och möjligheter som teknologin kan utgöra har intervjuer utförts och en enkät distribuerats för att få en förståelse för miljömedvetenheten hos användare av en tjänst för videoskapande. Resultaten analyserades med hjälp av teoretiska ramverk angående miljömedvetenhet och valueactiongap. Dessutom utfördes experiment för att beräkna och uppskatta miljöpåverkan av att skapa och rendera en video. Resultaten indikerade en hög övergripande miljömedvetenhet hos användarna. Däremot var medvetenheten gällande påverkan av elektricitetkonsumtion och videoskapande lägre. Detta föreslår att medvetenheten beror på sammanhanget avanvändarna och att de tre delarna av medvetenhet bör även analyseras separat utifrånvilket Eko-Feedback Teknologin ska anpassas. Dessutom var användarna inte övertygande om att en ökad medvetenhet skulle leda till en förändring i deras beteende gällande videoskapande, vilket föreslår ett gap mellan attityd och beteende. Studien identifierade två huvudbarriärer för gapet; brist på information och ansvarsförskjutning;som båda bör bemötas av Eko-Feedback Teknologin.

Sopa inte miljön under mattan! : En studie om beteendeförändring hos Kalmarhem AB:s hyresgäster

<p>Kalmarhem AB har uppmärksammat att det existerar ett ohållbart beteendemönster bland hyresgästerna inom studentgruppen. För att kunna bryta detta mönster avser vi att genom denna uppsats  utreda vilka attityder och beteenden som existerar bland hyresgästerna samt ge förslag på förändringar som företaget kan genomföra för att skapa en positiv beteendeförändring.</p><p>Vi avser att lyfta fram vilka åtgärder som är mest lämpliga att använda av bostadsföretag för att motivera studenter till att agera mer miljömedvetet i hemmet. För att utveckla effektiva marknadsföringsåtgärder valde vi att utreda vilka attityder som råder och hur de förhåller sig till det aktuella beteendet.</p><p>Vi har använt oss av en abduktiv ansats där vi utgått  från vår fallstudie av Kalmarhem AB. Vi har använt oss av både kvalitativa och kvantitativa undersökningsmetoder i form av en enkätundersökning, fokusgrupper, panelintervjuer, en telefonintervju och en gruppintervju samt observation för att insamla nödvändig data.</p><p>För att erhålla större förståelse för ämnet presenterar vi i referensramen de olika teorier och begrepp som ligger till grund för vår uppsats. Vi presenterar även den forskningsmodell vi utgått från i våra empiriska undersökningar.</p><p>Vi kunde konstatera att problemet med bristfällig källsortering inte härstammar från negativa attityder gentemot miljöansvar, med andra ord såg vi ett svagt samband mellan beteende och attityd. Genom analys av empiriskt material kunde vi också dra slutsatsen att det finns ett missnöje och brist på förtroende för Kalmarhem, vilket leder till att studenterna har svårare att ta till sig av företagets budskap och information.</p> / <p>Kalmarhem AB has given attention to an unsustainable behaviour pattern among student tenants. In order to change this pattern we aim to throughout this essay investigate what attitudes and behaviours that exists among the tenants and in addition give suggestions for the company to perform in order to create a positive behavioural change.</p><p>We aim to emphasise the measures that are most suitable to use by housing corporations in order to motivate students to act more environmentally friendly in their house. To develop efficient marketing strategies we chose to investigate which attitudes that prevails and how they correlate to the actual behaviour.</p><p>We have used an abductive approach with a case study regarding Kalmarhem AB, as a starting point. We have used both qualitative and quantitative methods of investigation by means of an survey, focus groups, panel interviews, a phone interview a group interview and an observation to collect relevant data.<strong> </strong></p><p>In order to gain a greater understandning of the subject there is an introduction of different basic theories and concepts in the frame of references. We also introduce a research model which we has used as a basis for the empirical research.</p><p>We can conclude that the problem with insufficient recycling does not originate from negative atitudes towards environmental responsibility, in other words we did not see a strong correlation between behaviour and attitude. By means of analysis of empirical data collection we could also conclude that the students experience discontent and a lack of trust for Kalmarhem, which implies that the students are less likely to accept the company's message and information.</p>
