On the Mechanical Recycling of Woven Fabrics : Improving the Reusable Fibre Yield of Mechanical Methods / Om mekanisk återvinning av naturfiber i vävtextiler

Johansson, Ludvig January 2020 (has links)
This master thesis studies the recycling prospects of textiles. The textile industry contributes negatively to the global environmentthrough the release of greenhouse gases and consumption of resources. In order to achieve a circular textile industry, textiles must be recyclable by both chemical and mechanical means. Here, the focus is on mechanical extraction of staple fibres, particularly cotton, for reentry into yarn production. Experiments show that used, but undamaged, cotton sateen and cotton twill responds differently to abrasion with stochastic surfaces. Previous studies on the conventional shredding processes have shown positive impact from lubricants on extracted fibre lengths, by reducing inter-fibre friction. In the present study on abrasion, variables such as alignment of the weave pattern, lubrication and load are shown to have little to no impact on extracted fibre length, but notable effects on overall fibre quality. These analyses are supported by manual length assessment, electron micrographs and tensile tests using load cells. Furthermore, simple tests and observations on structured diamond surfaces constructed through chemical vapor deposition are promising for mechanical fibre release directly from a woven fabric. Suggestions are made on continued research in this field.

Rekonstrukce tečení lávových proudů Kozákova na základě studia magnetické a minerální stavby / Reconstruction of the Kozákov lava flow based on magnetic- and mineral-fabric study

Černá, Aneta January 2010 (has links)
Combined anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) and crystallographic studies were applied on a neogenne lava flow, for which we know the supposed flow path. Samples were studied under microscope, the minerals were analysed on microprobe, the orientation of olivine crystals was determined via EBSD and magnetic properties were studied. AMS data acquired from samples collected from representative outcrops of lava flow show weak preferred orientation of magnetite-ulvöspinel. EBSD analysis suggests only slight orientation of plagioclase in one sample. Analysed composition of olivine corresponds with mathematical model for eruption temperature and crystallization succession. Rootless cone (disorderly breccia cone) in lava body was found and desribed in the abandoned Machův lom quarry.

Olesen, Amelie, Cerda, Sara January 2020 (has links)
Dao, Thi Chinh Thuy 08 February 2018 (has links)
De plus, l'augmentation de l'extension du étoffes tricotées a favorisé la libération d'ibuprofène à partir des étoffes tricotées traités par les microcapsules à travers la peau de porc / The use of the microcapsules made from eco-friendly materials for medical textile applications has been researched and developed strongly in recent years. The aim of this thesis is to elaborate the anti-inflammatory textiles basing on eco-friendly microcapsules, using three kinds of textile materials (cotton, peco 65/35 and polyester)and five levels of the loop length (2.81, 2.83, 2.87, 2.96 and 3.05 mm) on the cotton interlock knitted fabrics (yarn count Ne40). The influences of the saponin concentration, the stirring rate during the emulsification step and the volume of ethyl acetate added to the aqueous phase on the characteristics of the microcapsules were studied. The influence of condition in drying on microcapsule’s morphology was also investigated. The thesis also researched the effects of cotton mass ratio and loop length of fabric on the microcapsule distribution, the microcapsule loading capability and the release capability of ibuprofen from the microcapsule treated fabrics. The Eudragit RSPO microcapsules containing ibuprofen were successfully elaborated by solvent evaporation technique, using the bio-sourced surfactant quillajasaponin and the non-halogenated solvent ethyl acetate. The obtained microcapsules exhibited the spherical shapes with d(0.5) diameter of 21.5 m, suitable for the textile applications. It was found that in order to keep the microcapsules from deformation during the textile finishing, the drying stage should be carried out in vacuum at 45oC. When the content ratio of cotton fibers in the fabric increased, the microcapsule distribution was less even, resulting in the lower release rate of ibuprofen from the microcapsule-treated fabrics. Besides, when the loop length increased, the microcapsule loading capability of the treated fabrics increased, the microcapsule distribution on the fabric became less even and the release rate of ibuprofen from the microcapsule-treated fabrics decreased. Furthermore, increasing the fabric extension favored the release of ibuprofen from the microcapsule-treated fabrics through the pigskin

[pt] COMPORTAMENTO À FLEXÃO DE VIGAS DE SEÇÃO-I DE CONCRETO REFORÇADO COM TECIDO / [en] FLEXURAL BEHAVIOR OF I-SECTION TEXTILE REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS

KISSILA BOTELHO GOLIATH 22 August 2022 (has links)
[en] The present research aims to perform an experimental investigation on the short and long-term flexural behavior of I-section textile reinforced concrete (TRC) beams. Four types of carbon fabric were used, differentiated by the mesh dimensions and yarn cross-section, as well as by the fabric coating. The samples were identified according to the name of the coating, being styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) and SBR impregnated with sand (SND), acrylate (ACR) and epoxy (EPX) resin. Initially, four‐point bending tests were performed in I‐beams, considering SBR fabric and the following conditions: (a) plain cementitious matrix; (b) plain matrix and sand‐coated textile; and (c) strain hardening cement‐based composite (SHCC) matrix. The main goal was to correlate the improvements on interface and matrix properties with the crack pattern, failure mode and ductility. A theoretical method was used to evaluate the flexural behavior of the beams and good agreement was achieved with the experimental results. In the next step, the mechanical properties of different types of carbon-TRC and their interface were studied through direct tensile, pullout and compression tests. The influence of different test configurations and the effectiveness of the parameters obtained in these tests were verified for the performance prediction of TRC beams tested in bending in a monotonic way. The study was able to indicate the most suitable characterization methods to derive mechanical properties to be used in analytical methods, as well as to show the influence of different testing parameters on the load capacity of the composite. Finally, the long-term behavior of I-section beams reinforced with carbon fabric under sustained loading of 4 kN was investigated. An analytical model was used to analyze the results in terms of effective textile moduli, concrete tensile strength and the nominal bond stress. The model showed that SBR textile is strongly affected by sustained load. SND, ACR and EPX beams formed new cracks during creep and the reduction in effective modulus observed was not accompanied by increase in crack width. It was confirmed the great influence of adhesion between fabric and matrix on the load capacity of the composite, the decrease in matrix strength due to fabric incorporation, as well as the divergence of the conditions of composite characterization tests.

Analysis of Data Center Network Convergence Technologies

LeBlanc, Robert-Lee Daniel 01 July 2014 (has links) (PDF)
The networks in traditional data centers have remained unchanged for decades and have grown large, complex and costly. Many data centers have a general purpose Ethernet network and one or more additional specialized networks for storage or high performance low latency applications. Network convergence promises to lower the cost and complexity of the data center network by virtualizing the different networks onto a single wire. There is little evidence, aside from vendors' claims, that validate network convergence actually achieves these goals. This work defines a framework for creating a series of unbiased tests to validate converged technologies and compare them to traditional configurations. A case study involving two different network converged technologies was developed to validate the defined methodology and framework. The study also shows that these two technologies do indeed perform similarly to non-virtualized network, reduce costs, cabling, power consumption and are easy to operate.

Some Impacts of Septic Effluent On Hydromorphic Soils

Campbell, James Alfred 06 1900 (has links)

Measurements of soil atmosphere, soil physical parameters, coliform levels and ionic levels were made at 15 soil sites along Ancaster and Grindstone Creeks in winter, 1972-73 and July, 1973. Multivariate analysis of the data indicated large fluxes of septic effluent resulted in soil fabric alterations, anaerobosis, and elevated coliform, nitrate, chloride and sodium levels. According to ecological and health criteria, these hydromorphic soils have very serious limitations as processors and absorbers of septic effluent.
/ Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

City scoop

Molodij, Anna January 2020 (has links)
This project is speculation in search of possibilities and rethinking the potential of Gamla Stan. Society is continually changing, as are the cities that we live in. The old town is mainly a residential area, but also a “living, pedestrian-friendly museum”. This is a place out of time and frozen in its form, a certain sensitivity is required when thinking about such a fragile context. However, the urban structure is not a fixed entity, but a dynamic and evolving one. By gentle carving in the existing city fabric, the aim is to re-introduce a workshop space in a contemporary manner. The idea is tested on the block of Cassiopea, where its building components get interconnected to make a continuous interior. The new space is about forgetting about the hyper-productivity mindset, with an intention to promote aesthetic pleasure and a slow pace of life. This collective and multifunctional space is a representation of artistic expression, a city atelier for making craft using technology. A space for artists, makers, and education, visible to the public.
