The landmark of reference in the construction of this research is the seventies of the twentieth century, when the festivity procession starts to suffer a series of modifications, happened, mainly, from the process of growth and urbanization of the spaces of the city that shelters it. Its organizational structure is composed of three parts. The first one, containing two chapters, intends to argue the Feast of Nazaré in its movement of transformation and its relation with the space of the city. Also it looks for to show as new cultural logics will be adding to the Feast and how these logics dialogue with each other and with own Feast. The second part, divided in three chapters, approaches the tensions and reinventions of and in the Feast, materialized in the dialogue that different sectors keep with "traditional" signs of the Círio, as the rope, the mantle and the lunch. The third part, also with three chapters, evidences the relation that the Feast of Nazaré leads with its profane spaces: the Feast of the Chiquita, the Popular Theater of the Círio and the Camp Feast of Nazaré, unveiling the political struggle from the confluence of power struggles by various social sectors that, in contemporary times, battle it out for their domains. All body text of the thesis finds support in the sources consulted and the reading and interpretation of the investigated phenomena are subsidized on the ideas of contemporary theorists of Social History, as Bakhtin (1996), Bhabha (2007), Canclini (2006), Hall (2006), Hobsbawm (1995) and Martin-Barbero (2006) / Esta tese tem como objeto de estudo a Festa de Nazaré, que acontece há mais de duzentos anos na cidade de Belém do Grão Pará.

The paths of azorean immigrants in Sao Paulo: formation, transformation and reinterpretation processes of cultural representations

Angelo, Elis Regina Barbosa 02 June 2011 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Elis Regina Barbosa Angelo.pdf: 11081359 bytes, checksum: 6a3f95f807f1ebdea8e62b1c8ffa5c3e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-06-02 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The focus of this research is to address the paths taken by Azorean immigrants in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, between 1950 and 1960, in order to recover the processes of formation, transformation and redefinition of cultural representations. A dialogue with the memories of emigration and immigration indicated the political, economical and social situation of the Azores in the period preceding those movements and gave away the reasons to why they took place. What was recovered indicates that the Holy Spirit Feast had an important catalyst role in the formation of immigrant communities established at Vila Carrão. The symbols and meanings of this feast are perceived to this day as one of the most important elements of the Azorean s immaterial culture, and have been shared by generations to the present time. This group s approach was to investigate an assembling of immigrants from their departure in the Azores, including means of transportations, relationships established prior and during the journey in terms of labor and family and finally the living conditions found in the booming city that was Sao Paulo. The dichotomy of supply versus demand and the search for people to work the factories, industries and trade, which promoted the process, is also analyzed here. The experiences in the city that welcomed them and several other elements coalesced help translate their life s trajectories, as they organized themselves in the district, how they were dispersed in Brazil and around the world, and especially how was the initiative of reestablishing ties with countrymen and building the House of the Azores, which led to the reinvention of traditions and the reformulation of the Holy Spirit Feast. By unveiling these social experiments, the reinterpretations translated a new profane-religious cultural tradition in a diverse environment that is the metropolis formed by a true mosaic of cultures / Esta investigação aborda as trajetórias dos imigrantes açorianos na cidade de São Paulo no período de 1950 a 1960, tentando recuperar processos de formação, transformação e ressignificação das representações culturais.

Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-27T19:31:13Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Lucas Candido de Oliveira.pdf: 3661270 bytes, checksum: 115aae4e914e4a20c6d4bdfd0f9c32db (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-02-16 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This study was guided by the the Popular Culture in the state of Minas Gerais, more accurately the Festa dos Santos Reis in São Sebastião do Paraíso and it was contextualized the festivity as an immaterial cultural asset in the city and proposed its legal protection through the "Registry", based on the Federal Constitution of 1988 that introduced the immaterial nature goods as Cultural Heritage mode. The study included a time frame from 2001 to 2015, because the Festa dos Santos Reis had a break between 1999 and 2000, returning the following year and remained to the present day. Because this research appreciates the common historical subjects, bibliographic sources are scarce, and to overcome those gaps we used the method of Oral History. Due to the importance of the Party which holds the community we analyzed the legislation which provides the legal protection of this popular culture, and the mechanisms used by the State to protect its cultural property, such as the Normative Resolution 02/2015 of Conep (State Council of Cultural Heritage) governing the apportionment of ICMS-Cultural Heritage throughout the state of Minas Gerais.

Banquet festif et banquet macabre : analyse narrative et structurelle d’Ap 19

Côté, Richard 07 1900 (has links)
Due to its constant use of symbolism within a loose narrative framework, John’s Revelation poses a formidable exegetic challenge. Moreover, this book reuses a large amount of Old Testament material while never quoting from the OT. This M.A. thesis posits that Rev 19 is a significant literary unit encased in the larger context of the complex Book of Revelation, although its narrative frame is not closely argued, even displaying some contradictions with other parts of the book. However, on a theological level, a coherent, consistent message can be unveiled, when adding a structural analysis to the narrative analysis. The combination of these two synchronic approaches highlights some striking parallels and describes a plot that talks about the certain achievement of God’s justice, symbolized by the contrast of two feasts, one joyous and the other gruesome. Finally, this research leaves intact the evocative nature of the symbols and advocates an ironic reading of some passages.

Such bond ties reveal themselves through a very especial manner, through the migration of returning to the feast, when collectively are produced and updated knowledge and codes that reinforce the representation of the local belonging, nominated as being caicoense . We seek on perceiving how the many events of this feast (from a perspective of a religious order as well as laic) acting on a conclusive way to an identity of the re-meaning of that city, especially in its relation with the migrant natives: the sons and daughters that return to the arms of Sant Ana / presente disserta??o tem como objetivo apreender alguns significados particulares da Festa de Sant Ana (a santa padroeira de Caic?/RN), evento central do calend?rio festivoreligioso daquela cidade, buscando perceber como ela concilia os p?los simb?licos sagradoprofano atrav?s dos v?nculos sociais ali atuantes e expressos em redes de sociabilidade e de pertencimento locais.

Cook, Anita G., Benco, Nancy L. 10 April 2018 (has links)
Pottery for Celebration and Fame: Ceramic Artisan Production in a Huari Urban CenterRecent excavations at the Huari site of Conchopata have suggested that the southern sector of the large urban center may have served, at least during one occupation phase, as a residential-artisan area where elite and utilitarian pottery was made. This site has yielded hundreds of tools associated with pottery production, including polishers, molds, and multipurpose andesite hoes, along with several firing pit kilns and firing areas as well as the so-called Huari Middle Horizon ceramic "offerings".In this paper, we examine the spatial distribution and contexts of pottery-making tools, firing areas, and "offerings" within the architecturally defined rooms, plazas, and D-shaped structures. We conclude that the potters of Conchopata both lived and worked in this part of the settlement. They were highly specialized potters who likely belonged to the elite households and produced pottery and other ceramic objects for ceremonial and domestic purposes in workshops that were located inside, or adjacent, to large household compounds. This form of pottery production does not fit traditional organizational models, but instead appears to reflect a new type of craft production arrangement in the Huari imperial heartland.

The place : the feast of the holy ghost

Abstract: Rua do Porto (Porto Street), as is known Beira Rio Avenue, Piracicaba city, São Paulo State, Brazil, has been promoting for 182 years the Feast of the Holy Ghost. Born form devotion of local people and a form to thank for the gracefulness they catch up in the name of Holy Ghost, the Feast is one of the most representatives in the city. It has in its structure, several practices that we identify in this work as Poetics constituent (make up) of the event, and its symbolic forms. To develop this thesis we use the event while a visual work. So we appealed from Fayga Ostrower's theorist work to authors of Humanistic Geography and studious of folk and popular culture, to sociologic work of Antonio Candido and aesthetes. The present proposal limited to observe the Feast celebrated in the period of July 2005 to July 2008. It is possible today to be on the point, looking for in the thesis, that had as hypothesis the question if there was one aesthetic country culture of São Paulo state, defined in its demonstrations of popular plastic art of paulista countryside, the statement that there is in this aesthetic, principally if we get the sense as a group of features with a nature artistic creative showed in a form of visual features. It is already possible to be a system according to each poetic present in this cultural existence. This evidence of aesthetic leads to this work. In this sense, what is in the beginning point while a doubt, or while a vague certainty mediated for notes, little by little, as a result of a careful view, modifying, when gained quality argue support, as much observation in field as starting by aesthetics theory from historical approach and other humanities knowledge. / Doutorado / Doutor em Artes

ResPublica/Civitas Socialis – Strachotín, l. p. 2017 / ResPublica/Civitas Socialis - Strachotín

Kisová, Barbora January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis follows the project of the pre-diploma, in which detailed analyzes of the potential of the village were made, from which it follows that the most important place that the village needs to revive for further development is the village square itself. In the current state, a cluster of buildings is built on a clearly defined area of the village, which brings chaos and confusion to the urban structure. The building of the municipal office stopped communicating through the building of the former elementary school. The area between buildings, formerly designed for local residents to hold festivals, now serves as a handling yard. The aim of the work is to clean the area of the village, to restore its original lost character and to add the urban structure to a building that will serve both local inhabitants and tourist visitors.

A Non-Linear Eigensolver-Based Alternative to Traditional Self-Consistent Electronic Structure Calculation Methods

Gavin, Brendan E 01 January 2013 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis presents a means of enhancing the iterative calculation techniques used in electronic structure calculations, particularly Kohn-Sham DFT. Based on the subspace iteration method of the FEAST eigenvalue solving algorithm, this nonlinear FEAST algorithm (NLFEAST) improves the convergence rate of traditional iterative methods and dramatically improves their robustness. A description of the algorithm is given, along with the results of numerical experiments that demonstrate its effectiveness and offer insight into the factors that determine how well it performs.
