This set of elements becomes a rich field to analyze the interactions between individuals as "social actors". Considering its social and cultural vitality is that we propose to analyze the Feast of St. Anthony of Stick of Flag, held annually in the city of Barbalha, Ceara State, which includes the June festivities and expressions of popular religiosity site. I propose to reflect on the party dynamics, expressed in an extraordinary time, which articulates relations and ways of interactions between individuals and groups involved in the expectation processes, preparation and holding of the party in order to identify how changes and continuities contribute to its constant achievement. We show that the continuation of the festival is by renewal of interest and participation of individuals, which in turn is renewed, so reframe the party, that being the same, is continuously another.

This research presents the feast of the Holy Spirit Azorean held in a private devotion (Brotherhood) in the district of Encantado, the northern city of Rio de Janeiro. The feast of the divine is a popular festival, Catholic and native of the Iberian Peninsula that has been performed for centuries in various parts of the world, including Brazil. The main objective of the study is to present, from the report shared with the community of the Azores, our "native", the various component dimensions of the party, specifically, how it is being prepared in an original way on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. As the party a way of reaffirming ethnic in transnational contexts, as defined by the category "açorianidade" created in the 30s, their meanings (of the tradition) are being extrapolated diluted in foreign cultural contexts, assuming new peculiarities related to the tradition of the Azores. In Rio de Janeiro, culture and popular religion have become access to important social contact between the Azoreans and Brazilians, allowing the party to stay in different city districts. The Sisterhood of the Azorean Encantado established a dialogue over eight decades with the locals through the party, well marked on the calendar between the months of May and June. Establishing itself as a true system of total benefits, a privileged and complex social exchange enabled us through the ethnographic data of the empirical research a window for analysis of important themes of the Social Sciences: religious devotion, work, culture, tradition and space.

José Roberto Moreira 02 July 2010 (has links)
This work analyses the Feast of Tents at the Lages diocese, wich is located in Santa Catarina. It is about an annual feast that started in 1997, from the end of the Bible Diocesan Year. From biblical inspiration, this feast provides for Ecclesial Communities of Base (CEBs), an ecclesiologic option at diocese and points to the ransom of praxes in care and solidarity of recreated relationships from overcoming of the social and ecclesial exclusions. The first chapter reports the process of ―"put up tents" in the history of this feast in the last 13 years and also describes its biblical origins, particularly in the Old Testament. The description of its rituals and most remarkable characteristics will be very laious so that we chase new meanings for this feast in the context how its celebrated by community. The second chapter treats about the chalange de ― "disarm relationships of exclusion" and inquires the presence of an exclusion logic in the Society and at Church. At the same time, it proposes the overcoming for this problem by praxes of care and comensalism. There two practices are been very present in all editions of the Feast of Tents and express themselves in many attitudes, such the division of food, gratuity, reception. The ecclesiologic option for the Ecclesial Communities of Base (CEBs) inspires itself in the theology of the Holiest Trinity and presents an option for the purpose of resolving the logic of exclusion, wich can be overcome through participation in all social levels. The third chapter proposes some pastoral actions that confirm a new way of being Churc that the CEBs shows and the Feast of Tents celebrates. In the opening for the sócio-political and economic reality, it is introduced the creation of a new social contract that consolidates a full citizenship and planetary, in the perspective of the construction of a Church and Society without exclusions, just, fraternal and supportive; signals of Gods Kingdom.

Blot in the Late Iron Age : a discussion based on literature and archaeologicalmaterials.

Kellgren, Cecilia January 2022 (has links)
This essay analyzes the concept of blot (offerings), places where it´s been held, how it was performed and why it is performed according to literature sources. The literature is often based on Icelandic sagas and storytelling originating from the Christian period, and even though, the storys should be told with some truthful facts, the conclusion is, that these are not trustworthy sources. The question regarding the sagas veracity is therefore discussed from an archaeological viewpoint. Can we find proof in the archaeological material that will give us answers if blot is an individual happening, that actually existed? The answer is no, because there is no actual evidence available that can guarantee that blot as a specific event did occur. The archaeological sources reveal that sacrifices and offerings was made outdoors and in halls. This essay has been investigating three places in Sweden, Bollstanäs in Uppland, Skedemosse on Öland and Helgö in Mälaren. All of these places have proof of sacrificial offerings but their relation to the blot mentioned in saga literature is uncertain. My conclusion is that blot is a subject that is difficult to find as an event in the archaeological material.

Reformulation of the Muffin-Tin Problem in Electronic Structure Calculations within the Feast Framework

Levin, Alan R 01 January 2012 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis describes an accurate and scalable computational method designed to perform nanoelectronic structure calculations. Built around the FEAST framework, this method directly addresses the nonlinear eigenvalue problem. The new approach allows us to bypass traditional approximation techniques typically used for first-principle calculations. As a result, this method is able to take advantage of standard muffin-tin type domain decomposition techniques without being hindered by their perceived limitations. In addition to increased accuracy, this method also has the potential to take advantage of parallel processing for increased scalability. The Introduction presents the motivation behind the proposed method and gives an overview of what will be presented for this thesis. Chapter 1 explains how electronic structure calculations are currently performed, including an overview of Density Functional Theory and the advantages and disadvantages of various numerical techniques. Chapter 2 describes, in detail, the method proposed for this thesis, including mathematical justification, a matrix-level example, and a description of implementing the FEAST algorithm. Chapter 3 presents and discusses results from numerical experiments for Hydrogen and various Hydrogen molecules, Methane, Ethane, and Benzene. Chapter 4 concludes with a summary of the presented work and its impact in the field.

ANDERSON RODRIGUES TEIXEIRA 09 November 2021 (has links)
[en] This research analyzes the aphrodiasporic devotional practices involved in the 17th Festa de Iemanjá held at the Mercadão de Madureira-RJ. Among so many other public manifestations of African-based religions in Rio de Janeiro, the Iemanjá festivities stand out for their exceptionality: they are exclusively devoted to a deity of African origin, that is, without the syncretic inclusion of Catholic saints. The thesis, from the perspective of ritual, investigates the materialities triggered by festive devotion in the market transformed into terreiro-territory. In this study, such materialities are understood by the uses of the body, space and votive elements in circulation through the paths of the devotees. The festive cycle in this secular space takes place throughout the entire month of December, when the faithful deposit offerings and written requests in front of the statue of the honored divinity, creating a real flow of gifts. However, once the festival is understood as a ritual and, therefore, as a procedural structure, the months preceding the culmination of the event, which in 2019 took place predominantly within the market, are also part of this ethnographic journey. However, the letters and gifts offered to the Mãe d água in the construction of the devotional setting, whose central icon is the statue of Iemanjá in human proportion, are also examined. So, examining the festive cycle through the paths of social actors and the things involved in devotion, the polysemy of festive making is unleashed.

Banquet festif et banquet macabre : analyse narrative et structurelle d’Ap 19

Côté, Richard 07 1900 (has links)
Due to its constant use of symbolism within a loose narrative framework, John’s Revelation poses a formidable exegetic challenge. Moreover, this book reuses a large amount of Old Testament material while never quoting from the OT. This M.A. thesis posits that Rev 19 is a significant literary unit encased in the larger context of the complex Book of Revelation, although its narrative frame is not closely argued, even displaying some contradictions with other parts of the book. However, on a theological level, a coherent, consistent message can be unveiled, when adding a structural analysis to the narrative analysis. The combination of these two synchronic approaches highlights some striking parallels and describes a plot that talks about the certain achievement of God’s justice, symbolized by the contrast of two feasts, one joyous and the other gruesome. Finally, this research leaves intact the evocative nature of the symbols and advocates an ironic reading of some passages.

Raisons des plaisirs et des joies en Grèce archaïque : pour une histoire des émotions positives et de leurs représentations / Reasons of pleasures and joys in archaic Greece : for a history of positive emotions and their representations

Bertau-Courbières, Clément 21 November 2014 (has links)
The present research regards the history of positive emotions and their representations in archaic Greece. The history of emotions, benefiting from a new trend, which underlined the relations between emotions and cognition, is based on the hypothesis that the sense of the affective episodes depends on the historical and cultural contexts. Consequently, the aim was to unveil the positive emotions’ meaning, from Homer to Herodotus, using the available evidence. The type of analysis that was used is at the same time semantic and historical, but it rests, as well, upon anthropology and psychology. Three main fields have been looked through for this study: the Homeric epic, the archaic poetry from the time of the first poleis and the new forms of wisdom, religious or philosophical. How these positive emotions have been defined? Were their form and functions subject to change? Which role is given to them in the polis or at the banquet? Which type of discourse have they provoked, at the ethical, political or philosophical levels? Beginning with a semantic dichotomy, that seems important in the lexical field, the new representations of the positive emotions are considered in close relationship with the social, political and religious changes of the archaic period.

The proposed research sought to identify the changes and permanence during the festivities, as well as to understand the reasons and instruments used by the ?sambadores? (samba dancers) for these changes to occur, how they are being perceived and experienced by the population that participated in the feast, and how the residents of the Cabaceiras community understood and participated in the reinvention process. In addition, it seeks to understand new meanings and appropriations of other forms of religiosity, such as the interreligious dialogue between the religion of African matrices and the Catholic tradition, which makes it plural in relation to other celebrations in praise of the Holy Kings in the interior of Bahia state. We analyze aspects between the sacred and the profane, besides observing conflicts and divergences between the revelers and the municipal authorities. For that, the narratives of these residents and participants, audiovisual records and written sources were primordial methodological resources, in order to understand the peculiarities of this Christmas party. The work intends to contribute to an analysis of the practices of the feast as an expression of popular religiosity, focusing on the dynamics of the Reisado de Cabaceiras Group, its trajectory and its insertion in the urban spaces of the city of Concei??o do Coit? and Sisaleira Region.
