RIOS, Fernanda Posch 26 March 2010 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2014-07-29T15:01:52Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 DISSERTACAO FERNANDA POSCH RIOS.pdf: 1644998 bytes, checksum: 1003a4a31d708046d991020d7c53ee0b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-03-26 / The system collects sewage from the city of Goiânia, capital of Goiás state, has more than 2500 km of collection network, which discharges into the sewer interceptors deployed on the banks of major watercourses in the city. About 82% of the population of this capital is serviced with sanitary sewer collection system, which the distance from the reality of the Metropolitan area of Goiânia, constituted the main city, Goiânia, comprising twelve municipal districts: Abadia de Goiás, Aparecida de Goiânia, Aragoiânia, Bela Vista de Goiás, Goianápolis, Goianira, Guapó, Hidrolândia, Nerópolis, Santo Antônio de Goiás, Senador de Goiás and Trindade. The Metropolitan area of Goiânia and the rest of the country lack accurate information about the constructive and maintenance aspects of individual systems of sanitary sewage treatment and sanitary sewage disposal, whether as a septic tank or as an onsite sewage facility. The quality and the number of on-site sewage cleaning service companies, their operational procedures, their workers conditions as well as their equipments are also unknown to people. Considering all that, the present work aims to evaluate the constructive and maintenance aspects of individual systems of sanitary sewage treatment and sanitary sewage disposal as well as to make a diagnosis of the performance of on-site sewage cleaning service companies that serve the Metropolitan area of Goiânia. All this information is essential to set corrective measures, plans and goals in order to minimize the impacts harmful to public health and to the environment as regards to the mud displayed by the on-site sewage cleaning service companies. All of the on-site sewage cleaning service companies that serve the Metropolitan area of Goiânia were identified and visited. As an addition to the useful information, 60 services displayed among different companies were closely watched. It was also determined the average percentage of the monthly treated flow related to the sludge displayed by the on-site sewage cleaning service companies inside the Sewage Treatment Plant of Goiânia. As a result it was verified that the correct use of the septic tank system, which is recommended by NBR 7227/93, is small compared to the house units demand not yet served by the plumbing sewage disposal system. As the users show little knowledge about the aforementioned system, the type of solution most used to sanitary sewage is still the cesspool. Few companies have environmental license, and most of them are classified as micro companies and have been in the market for over five years. Just one company was a market leader throughout 2008 and 2009. All companies have not been taking special care concerning both workers and equipments hygiene. Their truck fleet are in average 30 years old and all of them were adapted to receive the metallic tank and the liquid ring pump. The average month amount of sludge coming from sewage cleaning in the Sewage Treatment Station of Goiânia is small and does not alter the final flow quality. The Sewage Treatment Station of Goiânia daily receives an average of 28 trucks, being Friday the busiest day. Despite all companies are aware of the restrictions imposed by SANEAGO as regards to not receiving material other than sanitary sewage, 44% of them realize the collection, transport and final disposal in alternative places with industrial sludge which are clearly contaminated with chrome.

Avaliação do trauma intracoclear causado pela inserção do feixe de eletrodos do implante coclear via fossa média em ossos temporais / Evaluation of intra cochlear trauma after cochlear implant electrode insertion through a middle fossa approach in temporal bones

Juan Carlos Cisneros Lesser 01 February 2017 (has links)
In recent years, a middle fossa approach has been described for the insertion of cochlear implants, and it proved to be a reliable alternative for implantation in patients with chronic supurative otitis media, unstable mastoid cavities with recurrent otorrhea, partially ossified cochlea and in some cases of inner ear dysplasia. Until now, no research has been done to describe if this approach allows for anatomic preservation and non-traumatic insertions comparable to those through the round window. Objective: To evaluate cochlear trauma when the cochlear implant electrode is inserted through a middle fossa approach by means of histologic and imaging studies in temporal bones. Methods: 20 temporal bones retrieved before 24 hours after death were implanted through a middle cranial fossa cochleostomy in the basal turn of the cochlea. Ten received a straight electrode and 10 a perimodiolar electrode. After reducing the bone size with preservation of the inner ear structures, the temporal bones were fixed, dehydrated and embedded in an epoxy resin. CT scans were performed to determine if an adequate direction of insertion was attained, the depth of insertion and the distance between the cochleostomy and the round window. At last, the samples were polished by micro-grinding technique and microscopically visualized to evaluate intracochlear trauma. Results: The CT-scan showed an adequate intracoclear position of the electrode in all the samples. In the straight electrode group the average number of inserted electrodes was 12.3 (10 to 14) against 15.1 (14- 16) for the perimodiolar (U=78, p=0.0001). The median depth of insertion was significantly larger for the perimodiolar electrode group (14.4mm vs. 12.5mm U=66, p = 0.021). Only one atraumatic insertion was achieved and 70% of the samples had important trauma (grades 3 and 4). No differences were identified for the trauma grades between the two groups of electrodes. Also, there were no differences in trauma if the cochlear implants were inserted in the direction of the basal turn of the cochlea or in the direction of the middle and apical turns. Conclusions: The surgical technique that was used allowed for a proper intracochlear insertion of the electrodes in all 20 temporal bones but it does not guarantee a correct scala tympani position and carries high trauma risk for the intracochlear microstructures

Antropometrické parametry trupu u pacientů s chronickými bolestmi páteře a u zdravé populace / Trunk anthropometric parameters by patients with chronical back pain and by healthy population

Havlíčková, Barbora January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this study is to compare anthropometric parameters of the trunk between a group of patients with low back pain and a control group without pain. These findings would support the theory that low back pain may be caused by non-ideal postural-locomotion development in childhood, resulting in measurable morphological variations in adulthood. 60 individuals with low back pain (patients) and 60 healthy volunteers (controls) participated in the study. It was confirmed that the distance between the jugular fossa and xiphoid process is shorter in relation to the body height in the group of patients versus the control group. Conversely, there was a significantly longer distance between the xiphoid and symphysis relative to the body height among the patients. Furthermore, diastasis of rectus abdominis muscle was observed more frequently in the low back pain group. These findings suggest that patients with low back pain present with trunk morphological differences when compared with a matching healthy group. Keywords Low back pain, jugular fossa to xiphoid process distance, xiphoid to symphysis distance, rectus abdominis muscle diastasis, motor development, morphology, anthropometry

Ultrassonografia intraoperatória para avaliação da necessidade de duroplastia no tratamento cirúrgico de doentes com malformação de Chiari tipo I / Intra operative ultrasonography for evaluation of the need of duroplasty in surgery for Chiari I malformation

Brock, Roger Schmidt 03 April 2017 (has links)
I / Objectives: Chiari malformation Type I (CM-I) is the main congenital malformation disease of the craniovertebral junction, and may be responsible for a variety of neurological symptoms. The ideal surgical technique used to treat patients with CM-I is still controversial. Invasive procedures that enters CSF space and are associated with dural repair, are considered the gold standard. Although effective and less morbidity, isolated bone decompression without dural opening, implies greater recurrence of symptoms. Objective parameters to select patients, who need or not to have a duroplasty performed, have not been established. Our study evaluates the efficacy of intra-operative CSF flow measurement through the use of ultrasonography (USG) as a determining parameter in the selection of these patients. Methods: We analyzed prospectively 49 posterior fossa surgeries for patients with CM-I. Patients underwent decompressive surgery with or without opening of the dura mater after conducting USG intra-operatively with measured flow rate, being adopted 3cm/s flow rate as a determining value. The quality of life before and after surgery and the improvement of neck pain and headache were the parameters evaluated. Results: Of the 49 patients enrolled, 36 patients (73%) had adequate CSF flow above 3 cm / s and have not undergone duroplasty. In 13 (27%) patients with initial flow < 3 cm / s an opening in dura mater was performed together with duroplasty. There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding the parameters studied. Conclusion: Intraoperative ultrasound with measurement of CSF flow, having a flow of 3 cm / s as cut-off, allows the proper selection of patients with CM-I that can have a less invasive surgery with bone decompression without duroplasty

Implementation of high-resolution direct push sensing in geoarchaeological exploration of wetland sites

Rabiger-Völlmer, Johannes 07 February 2024 (has links)
Wetland sites provide important knowledge about settlement history and historical infrastructure in the form of buried archaeological features. However, the subsurface is difficult to access, e.g. due to high groundwater levels or unstable sediments, making archaeological excavation difficult and the conservation of recovered artefacts, e.g. timbers, is expensive. In addition, one of the aims of heritage conservation is to disturb structures in such contexts as little as possible as part of preserving. Therefore, alternative non- and minimal-invasive methods, e.g. geophysical prospection and vibra-coring, are used for exploration. However, geophysical surveys face the issue of inaccurate depth values and rely on sufficient contrasts in the measured physical parameters. Vibra-coring allows direct access to the sediments, but again gives inaccurate depth values due to high compaction rates. For this reason, the implementation of alternative methods and the development of new methodical approaches to wetland site exploration are of extraordinary importance. One such wetland site is the Fossa Carolina, an early medieval canal that today is partially buried. Located in Southern Germany next to Treuchtlingen, south of Nuremberg, the canal was intended at the time to provide a navigable link between the Rhine-Main and Danube basins by bridging the European watershed. In the research for this thesis, direct push sensing was used as an alternative exploration technique to explore the site. In this method, various probes are pushed into the unconsolidated subsoil and the parameters are measured in situ with high depth accuracy. (i) Therefore, the colour logging tool (CLT) and the electrical conductivity (EC) probe were applied. (ii) In order to record archaeological structures and features, the soundings were distributed closely along a transect using an adaptive exploration strategy, thus recording a high-resolution cross-section of the structure. (iii) These prospections were integrated into a spatial-hierarchical multi-method approach by combining direct push sensing with geophysical survey and vibra-coring, inter alia. (iv) Thus, a deeply buried section of the Fossa Carolina (West-East Section) was explored, demonstrating at least one-way navigability and revealing the backfill stratigraphy. (v) Furthermore, the approach used helped to clarify the nature of conspicuous magnetic anomalies in the area adjacent to the canal. In the Northern and North-Eastern Sections, magnetic anomalies provided evidence of water-supplying structures. The exploration of these structures revealed an Early Holocene structure in the North-Eastern Section and a historic gravel road in the Northern Section. (vi) Additionally, a strong magnetic anomaly with a course parallel to the canal in the Northern Section could be temporally and stratigraphically associated with the construction of the canal. Thus, for the first time, a larger remnant of the construction process outside the canal could be identified, even if the origin could not be conclusively clarified. (vii) In a broader context, the in situ direct push cross-sections were integrated into a 3D modelling approach for the entire Fossa Carolina to quantify the excavation volume. (viii) The methodological approach was successfully applied to a wetland site at Pestenacker in Southern Germany to collect evidence for Holocene floodplain dynamics in the Late Neolithic settlement. Finally, the thesis demonstrates the enormous methodological potential of direct push sensing for the exploration of buried archaeological sites. In particular, the colour logging tool is proving to be extremely effective, further enhanced by the intelligent combination in multi-method approaches. This is confirmed by the significant results obtained at Fossa Carolina that shed new light on the canal{'}s navigability, water supply, and construction structure. Overall, this thesis demonstrates the valuable contribution that direct push methods can make to geoarchaeological research. It both introduces a new methodological approach and provides new empirical evidence concerning the construction of an example of early medieval infrastructure.:Preface Acknowledgements Abstract Kurzfassung Contents List of Figures List of Tables Acronyms and Symbols 1 Introduction 1.1 Geoarchaeological exploration in wetlands: possibilities and challenges 1.1.1 Proven exploration methods 1.1.2 Direct push sensing 1.1.3 Exploration strategies 1.2 The study site 1.2.1 The Fossa Carolina - State of the art in brief 1.2.2 Natural settings 1.3 Aims of the thesis 2 Published Studies 2.1 Minimalinvasive Direct-push-Erkundung in der Feuchtboden(geo)archäologie am Beispiel des Karlsgrabens (Fossa Carolina) 2.2 Non-invasive prospection techniques and direct push sensing as high-resolution validation tools in wetland geoarchaeology – Artificial water supply at a Carolingian canal in South Germany? 2.3 High-Resolution Direct Push Sensing in Wetland Geoarchaeology—First Traces of Off-Site Construction Activities at the Fossa Carolina 2.4 3D-Modelling of Charlemagne’s Summit Canal (Southern Germany)—Merging Remote Sensing and Geoarchaeological Subsurface Data 2.5 A hydrological tipping point and onset of Neolithic wetland occupation in Pestenacker (Lech catchment, S Germany) 3 Discussion 3.1 Direct push sensing for wetland exploration 3.1.1 High-resolution direct push sensing cross-sections 3.1.2 Integration and comparison of direct push sensing in a spatially hierarchical multi-method approach 3.1.3 Direct push colour logging tool (CLT) data for ground truthing 3.1.4 Perspectives on direct push sensing in geoarchaeology 3.2 Results of the exploration of the Fossa Carolina 3.2.1 Chronostratigraphic recording in the West-East and Northern Sections 3.2.2 Characteristics of the canal construction in the West-East and Northern Sections 3.2.3 Validation of off-canal structures in the Northern and North-Eastern Sections 3.2.4 Water supply for the Fossa Carolina 3.2.5 Pending issues in the study of the Fossa Carolina 4 Conclusion References Appendix A1 - Author publications A2 - Article contribution A3 - Declaration of originality A4 - Bibliographic description / Feuchtgebiete bergen durch begrabene archäologische Strukturen wichtige Erkenntnisse zur Siedlungsgeschichte und historischen Infrastruktur. Psychologie cognitive des processus d’attention sélective : fonctionnement, développement normal et dysfonctionnement chez des enfants traités pour une tumeur du cervelet / Cognitive psychology of selective attention processes : functioning, normal development and dysfunction in children treated for a cerebellar tumor

Walker, Marina 27 January 2012 (has links)
Attention can be defined as the act of focusing on something. We develop this cognitive function necessary to adjust our interactions with the world since birth. The general goal of this research is to understand the functioning of attentional processes through two questions: how attentional processes are developed in healthy children and how they are altered in children treated for a cerebellar tumor. This thesis specifically aims to study the dissociation between automatic and controlled processes of visual selective attention, firstly in normal cognitive development and secondly in their impairment in children treated for a cerebellar tumor. By incorporating in parallel a behavioral approach and an approach in functional imaging, this interdisciplinary work is at the crossroads of cognitive psychology, cognitive neuropsychology and cognitive neurosciences. This manuscript has two parts. The theory part is composed of three chapters: the functioning, the normal development and the deficits of attention in children treated for a cerebellar tumor. The experimental part includes two chapters. The first one concerns the attentional development in participants from seven years old to an adult age, with a behavioral approach using two experimental paradigms and an approach in functional imaging. The second chapter, with the help of this double approach, presents an alteration of attention in children treated for a posterior fossa tumor. The results showed on one side that automatic and controlled attentional processes were dissociated in their development at a behavioral and a functional level. And on the other side, the results revealed that although the automatic and controlled attentional processes are behaviorally preserved in children treated for a cerebellar tumor, they were subtended by a different modification of the functional network. Taken together these data suggest a distinct functioning of these processes in their normal development and their impairment in disease.

In Brazil, only a small portion of domestic wastewater collected is effectively treated. In most cities, the treatment system used is the septage, which have low efficiency and need for maintenance and periodic removal of sludge, which must be properly disposed. In the cities there is the generation of other types of waste such as sludge from septage, in this case considered an effluent as the water content exceeds 90%, effluent from chemical toilet and sanitary landfill leachate, all generated from urban activities, and require adequate treatment to final disposal. The combined treatment of these external effluents with domestic wastewater has been used as a strategy to reduce the cost of tractability. However, the great variability of composition and concentration of this effluents, make it a difficult treatability mixture, especially on conventional plants. There is still no consensus on the impacts caused by this mixture of effluents on the degradation processes commonly found in DWTPs nor on the safe ratio for the dilution to be adopted in regard to domestic wastewater. DWTP Canoas - CORSAN has an activated sludge system operating in batch, there is the combined treatment of domestic wastewater, sludge from septage, effluent from chemical toilet and sanitary landfill leachate, without a maximum amount stipulated for receipt of these external effluent. This study aimed to characterize the influent mixture and assess the impact of combined treatment on the operating conditions of the DWTP, as well as its performance in the removal of organics and nutrients between January 2009 to August 2010. It was found that the percentage of dilution of external effluent in domestic wastewater varied between 2.1% and 11.3% and that the contribution of this effluents to the total COD load varied between 14% and 74%. The physico-chemical composition of the influent mixture to biological reactor has influence on the composition of the microfauna present in the SBR. The most frequently observed impact by the shock loads entry was the loss of biomass due to flocculation and settling problems, such as bulking. The occurrence of shock loads due to the entry of external effluents promoted an increase in the SVL of 46 mL/g to 287 mL/g, just as there was an increase in the F/M, which increased from 0.42 d-¹ to 0.82 d-¹. Among the metals analyzed for Ca, Fe and K were found in higher percentages in the external effluent samples, corresponding to 15.8%, 10.4% and 10.1% respectively. Were also detected for Cu, Zn, Ti, Cr, in low percentages. In biological sludge were detected 56% Fe, 16% Ca, 10% Si and 8% of S, adsorbed on the flocs, and Zn (4%), Cu (3%), Mn (1.5%) and K (1.2%). The frequent exposure of activated slugde community to shock loads was the main effect to collaborate in the removal efficiencies reduction of TSS, BOD5, COD, TP and N-NH4 +, damaging the quality of the final effluent. The adoption of a unit for receiving and preliminary treatment of external effluents could permit a greater operational control in the receiving and treatment dynamic of external effluents, improving the performance of DWTP.

Caracterização e pré-tratamento de lodo de fossas e de tanques sépticos / Characterization and treatment of sludge originated from septic tanks

Borges, Nayara Batista 27 November 2009 (has links)
Septic tanks are small structures used for partial treatment of wastewater produced from urban and rural areas. It utilization is justify mainly by simplicity of construction and for being a technology that requires low operational dedication. Although it is a technology vastly used in Brazil, there is not much information about the characteristics of the waste dumped in there, and the conditions of collection, transport, and final destination of the sludge generated in the system. The objective of this research was characterize the sludge originated from septic tanks and to design, construct and evaluate a treatment unit model to be used for prior treatment of the sludge generated in those septic tanks. This unit, composed by a sieve, a degritter, and a flotation device, was assembled in the São Paulo University Campus, near the area 1 from the campus Wasterwater Treatment Plant (WWTP). It had the purpose to remove har solid particle, sand and the floating material before their entry in the Wasterwater Treatment Plant. Was made to characterize the sludge septic tank collected in situ and the sludge originated from the Septic Pumper Truck, unloaded into a tank of 15000 L. Furthermore, the characterization of the sludge originated from the Septic Pumper Truck was performed twice, once in the material collected in the first visit to the defined location and the other in the material collected about six months after the first collection. The use of ultrasound was tested to ameliorate the fragmentation of the particulate material and to improve the method of analysis of the sludge in situ. Additionally, it was characterized the sludge from septic tanks in the Waste Reception Center from the city of Campinas, São Paulo State - SANASA - Society of Water Supply and Sanitation in composite samples collected from 24 trucks during the unloading. Septic Pumper Truck in th Waste Receptation Center. A complementing test was performed in order to text the degradation of the floated sludge by anaerobic and aerobic processes. The characterizations revealed a great heterogeneity in the composition of the sludge and the high organic content, which should be taken in consideration regarding the impacts in the environment and in the WWTP. This underlines the importance of treatment of the sludge prior to discharging into the WWTP. The pilot plant was managed to work at different rates of surface sludge application (80, 110, 140 and 200 \'M POT.3\'/\'M POT.2\'.day). The 110 \'M POT.3\'/\'M POT.2\'.day rate displayed the highest efficiency with the removal of 91.7% of suspended solids, 89.3% of the chemical oxygen demand, and 81 9% of oils and waxes. The results showed the efficiency of the flotation system in the removal of suspended solids, oil and greases. The aerobic digestion of the floated material was efficient when it received inoculation with aeration period greater than 20 days, which allowed CDO the removal of 88.3% and 90% of oil and greases.
