Högre utbildning som inträdesbiljett : Studenters inställning till högre utbildning och livslångt lärande / Higher education as entrance ticket : Students' attitudes to higher education and lifelong learning

Håkansson, Sabine, Ohlsson, Frida, Salus, Dawid January 2013 (has links)
Kandidatuppsats i Arbetsvetenskap/Sociologi

Reading as something good. The concept of reading in the final report of the Book Price Committee with point of departure in the theory of discourse by Michel Foucault.

Eriksson, Marie-Louise January 2007 (has links)
Books and reading are important elements in cultural policy. On 1 January 2002 VAT on books and magazines was reduced from 25 per cent to 6 per cent. The purpose was to increase reading in all sections of the population. A special Book Price Commission was appointed to follow and examine price trends and to work for an enhancement of reading in all groups of the Swedish population. But what form of reading are the BPC talking about? With a theoretical point of departure in the theory of power and discourse by Michel Foucault the aim of this thesis is to explore if there is an existing discourse about reading and, if so, how this discourse is operating in the BPC reports. A chapter on the history of reading is also included. When studying how the history of reading is described and then analyzing the material that was published by the Book Price Commission under the years of 2002-2005 it becomes clear that the discourse of reading includes certain forms of reading and excludes (or devalues) other forms of reading. One way that the discourse is operating in is by connecting the concept of reading with values like democracy and both personal and social change. The BPC material can thus be seen as producing and reproducing the dominating discourse of reading, one form of reading that values the reading of printed books higher than other forms of reading. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Statlig övervakning av Internet : En diskursanalys av riksdagstryck 1994-2007 / State surveillance on the Internet : A discourse analysis of parliamentary publications 1994-2007

Haikola, Simon, Jonsson, Sara January 2007 (has links)
This paper attempts to survey the debate in the Swedish parliament on state surveillance on the Internet, from 1994 to March, 2007. With a discourse analysis inspired by Foucault, we follow how the idea of state surveillance is viewed by politicians during the period. By focusing on the Internet, we expect to find how politicians in the parliament regard the idea of an unregulated forum for citizen communication and interaction, and how the need for state surveillance on the new arena that is Internet, is expressed and argued for. Theoretical framework is given by Foucault’s theory of the Panoptic state, as well as his thoughts on discourse, power and governmentality. Foucault also supplies the methodological tools for the analysis. In attempting to find out how the political discourse on state surveillance on the Internet has been constituted, we examine what relationship between state and citizens is constituted in the discourse, how politicians argue for or against increased state surveillance, and how the possibility of applying new technology in state surveillance is viewed. The results of the analysis show a rationality for power of state control, resulting in attempts to increase the scope of state surveillance on the Internet. There is no questioning of the basic power rationale, that constitutes a need for state surveillance and control, but there is constant resistance to the attempts to increase state surveillance. We also find the discourse to be an area with a limited number of standpoints, and an ability of the political parties to make sudden switches from one position to another, radically different one, within the discourse. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Folkbiblioteket och individualiseringen. En diskursanalytisk studie. / The Public Library and Individualization. A discourse analysis.

Rogat, Mauricio January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this Master's thesis is to analyze the relation between the discursive formation and the optical formation in the public library-apparatus. An ongoing individualization process in the library field and in society at large is used as a backdrop in the analysis. Discourse analysis is used as a method to explore the main Swedish library periodicals Biblioteksbladet, Bibliotek i Samhälle and DIK-forum. All issues from the years 1999 and 2009 have been used as material. The main analytical instruments applied in the analysis of this material are Michel Foucault's terms dispositive, apparatus and diagram. My analysis results in the identification of an individualization diagram which organizes the public library discourse and the public library space planning. This can be observed in the way the library discourse has an intensified focus on the user as a free individualistic subject and in the conveyed understanding of knowledge as relative and individual. The structure of the library space also follows an individualistic organization with an emphasis on flexibility and diversity of use. This may result in a diffuse understanding of how the library should be used. It could also become more difficult for the public libraries to claim legitimacy in society.

Contemporary Mothering and the Provision of Children’s Active Outdoor Play

Clark, Emily 06 May 2019 (has links)
Children’s active outdoor play (AOP) is an unstructured physical activity that takes place outdoors during a child’s free time. Despite its association with health and well-being benefits (e.g. increases levels of physical activity, improves psychosocial skills), growing evidence suggests that children are playing less outdoors in comparison to previous generations (Clements, 2004; Witten et al., 2013). This trend is generating a number of studies aiming to examine its decline. Parents, especially mothers, are identified as significant actors in increasing children’s opportunities for AOP in order to prevent adverse health and developmental outcomes. Although parents have an important role in socializing children to leading healthy lifestyles, few studies have documented their difficulties in providing children with opportunities for AOP. Drawing on a Foucauldian approach, this qualitative study focuses on the social, cultural, and structural factors that shape children’s opportunities for AOP within the family context and examines the salient factors of contemporary motherhood that impact children’s AOP. Twenty-one mothers from the Ottawa-Gatineau region took part in an in-depth semistructured interview. The analysis shows that many aspects of contemporary mothering and the multiple roles occupied by mothers make it difficult to provide opportunities for AOP. A key finding is that mothers struggle to prioritize children’s AOP due to discursive conflicts that stem from their roles as risk managers, time managers, and screen time managers. Results provide crucial data for future initiatives aimed at increasing children’s levels of physical activity within a family setting. By focusing on the lived experiences of mothers, this study provides recommendations to promote AOP despite the challenges of contemporary family life.

Considered a sexual violence, we ask ourselves what makes it different from other forms of violence and what historical paths represent a constitution of what we now call Rape Culture. We are experiencing a profusion of discourses on rape today that reflect the power that the theme brings to discussions beyond the legal scope. For such work, we take as a product of analysis, mainly, linguistic materialities of our discursive experiences, they may be in music, publicity, interviews, virtual entertainment among diverse possibilities of discursive manifestation, that spread from the concept of "Rape Culture" . Keywords: Rape Culture. Discourse. Foucault e Deleuze: deserções, micropolíticas, resistências / Foucalt and Deleuze: desertion, micropolitics, resistances

Generally, those who think it like a historical period and not only an aesthetic tendency indicates at least two important features: first, the victory of the ephemeral and the banality against the critical power of the modernity and, second, the new modulation or mutation of the postwar capitalism. Another direction taken by contemporary debate characterizes our times by the emergence of a new sovereign power, which makes the state of emergency a rule and turns the concentration camp into to a paradigm of government. In both cases, the resistances were subjected to silence or placed in the background. To approach the problem we propose the following question: how the resistances occur in the post-modern times? However, we must add to the problem an inflection inspired by Deleuze: how to think a resistance in itself, apart of the categories of negative? It was necessary to investigate the notion of resistance, especially in the writings of Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze and, in this way, determine his contributions, disagreements and meetings around the concept. We attempt to think the resistance in themselves, freeing them from exogenous factors that determine their dynamics and observing its affirmative power. We conclude that the resistances contain, by one hand, defectors and micropolitical aspects, which are primary in relation to power, and, by another hand, connectives and inventive characteristics / A lista de hipóteses sobre a pós-modernidade é extensa.

Ströher, Carlos Eduardo January 2014 (has links)
Elas buscam inserir problematizações neste cenário, fazendo surgir as experiências intempestivas e as vivências infames. / This dissertation intents to insert some points in a territory that crosses the Areas of the Education and History: History teaching. The investigative problem of this study turns to the History professor in the classroom and interrogates: how does he constitute himself as a subject? Is he a researcher or mere reproducer of academic discourses? How does the know-how of the historical knowledge accumulated during the study, in university level, affect his professorial practices? What places do the professor’s knowledge and doings occupy in the teaching of History? The main theoretical framework is constituted by Michel Foucault’s writings, aiming to analyze the critics made by the author about the writings of the History. The description of History classes’ scenes was used as tool of analysis, when Foucault’s researcher and the professor meet each other on the happening’s stage: the classroom. The scenes narrate the relations established between professor and students that result in shock, confrontation and true oppositions, positions and significations. They attempt to reveal the truth established around this scenery, promoting untimely and infamous experiences. The History professor, according to Foucault’s perspective, is eager to find elements that turn the past into live object. As that one who called himself as the historian of the present, the investigative path of this research aspires to think how it is possible to contribute to release the thoughts and narratives from the plastered structures that remain in the historical sayings and writings.

By talking Foucault?s critical deconstruction of the ?repressive hypothesis? as a starting point, we can see as evidente the production of subjetivity mechanisms articulated by the construction of knowledge and power relations, which establishes the categorization of the individual in specific sexual identities. We analyze how sexuality becomes na instrumento f na anatomo-politics of the human body, as well as a biopolitics of the species, procedures of power put into practice towards the shape and controlo f individuals and the society itself. Considering Foucault?s Works on the constitution of the moral subject in the practices of greek and roman antiquity, this study takes the ?techniques of the self?as a way of creating as ?aesthetics of existence?.
