Sverigedemokraterna & Moderaterna : En frameanalys av migrationsfrågan över tid

Paulsson, Alma January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine the Swedish parliamentary debate on migration policy that has been shaped during the last three parliamentary elections. This study attempts to analyze how The Swedish Democrats and The Moderate Party frames and portrays migration as a problem. Using frame analysis, this study provides an overview of what frames are prevalent during the debate over the course of each period. Essentially, this paper explores how migration has been conceptualized, particularly how the problem has been defined, what the underlying causes are, what remedies are proposed and what moral values are extracted. As demonstrated in the result, there has been a change in the discourse over time as The Moderate Party have to a greater extent moved away from a responsibility framing to a framework that problematizes migration more like the way The Sweden Democrats portray migration.

Transnationella listor för val till Europaparlamentet : - Ett botemedel mot EU:s demokratiska underskott, eller ett försök att skapa ett Europas förenta stater?

Hultengård, John January 2018 (has links)
Abstract The aim of this article is to examine how members of the European Parliament (MEPs) framed the debate on the introduction of transnational lists for the elections to the European Parliament. Transnational lists would allow candidates on a list to be elected from the Union as a single constituency, unlike today, where the member states are divided into separate constituencies. Previous research has mainly focused on an older, similar piece of legislation, introduced by former liberal MEP Andrew Duff, or performed minor empirical tests on how citizens would react to transnational lists being implemented. Hence, I aim to fill a gap in the existing literature and provide a deeper understanding of the subject, as well as how political actors position themselves against each other while debating this. I watched three separate debates in the European Parliament on the subject and transcribed every speech from the debates and created a coding schedule (available on request at john.hultengard (at) Hotmail.com), where I could code each speech as being pro, against or not taking a stance on the issue. By using a frame analysis and a qualitative text analysis as methods, I was able to find an overarching pattern, where I discovered that the EPP, ECR, ENF and non-partisan MEPs joined forces against the Greens, ALDE and S&D, where the first coalition eventually came to win the vote on the issue. The pro-block tended to argue that there is a lack of a public sphere in the EU, and that the transnational lists would be a solution to this issue. The opponents of the idea claimed that transnational lists would weaken the link between citizens and elected MEPs, and hence the solution was to not introduce transnational lists. The two main political groups, EPP and S&D, experienced major internal divisions on the issue. Further research on this subject is necessary to give a clearer picture of the debate. Key words: Transnational lists, European Parliament, party groups, AFCO, democratic deficit, frame analysis.

Jämställdhet och Mångkultur : En frameanalys av tre debatter

Karlsson, Nicole January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to examine which perspective that dominates the political debates surrounding equality and diversity in Sweden. The theoretical framework used consists of three ideal types. These are the intersectional perspective, the cultural perspective and the white middle feminism class perspective. Operationalizing the theoretical framework with idealtypes, using Benford and Snowś first two principles in their frame analysis framework, which is the diagnostic and prognostic, as a method, I study the biggest political parties in Sweden due to their legislation and influence power within the field of equality and diversity. The analysis of the study shows that the culture perspective is dominating all the chosen debates, though it also shows that some political parties takes a more passive participation. The white middle class perspective is also visible in two of the three chosen debates, and the intersectional perspective is merely shown in two debates.

Integration som ömsesidig anpassning : En analys av idéerna bakom valet av målgrupp i den svenska integrationspolitiken

Nyström, Johanna January 2016 (has links)
The Swedish policy for integration has been accused of wrongly targeting only immigrants and therefore resembling assimilation. In this bachelor thesis I show that there seems to be a general understanding between academics and politicians of how integration should be achieved. If integration is the opposite of assimilation an integrated society has to be achieved trough mutual adaptation. The purpose of this thesis is to identify if the Swedish government design their policy for integration according to the idea of integration as mutual adaptation or not. A frame analysis is used to identify the de target populations in the Swedish strategy for integration. Through analysing the choice of target populations I conclude that the Swedish policy for integration does not fulfil the idea of integration as mutual adaptation. Another important conclusion is that there can be two different target populations for every policy, one tied to the causal story and one tied to the solution of the problem with integration.

Swimming Women : Discursive struggles over women's hours at municipal pools

Bergkvist Andersson, Magda January 2021 (has links)
This thesis explores constructions of meaning, or frames, surrounding the policy of women’s hours in public debates and municipal settings, using newspaper articles and municipal documents as main empirical sources. Departing from the puzzle of how women’s hours are depicted as both gender equitable and gender inequitable in the debate, the thesis draws on previous research of how gender equality and multiculturalism relates to each other, potentially producing tensions in policymaking and discourse. Although Sweden has often been noted for its exceptionality in both dimensions, research suggests that multiculturalism has lost its favorable status in Sweden. To understand the impact framing may have on institutions, analysis is grounded feminist discursive institutionalism. The analysis is realized in two steps. First, the analysis identifies four frames, two supporting and two opposing, most prominently used to construct and depict women’s hours in public debate. Second, the analysis zooms in on the three municipalities Västerås, Haninge and Västervik, exploring the relationship between framing and outcomes. The thesis finds that the frames of women’s hours are often involved in culturalist language, depicting women’s hours as a Muslim policy, or, implicitly, depicting women’s hours as a gender equal policy by connecting it to other women than Muslim. In relation to institutional outcomes, the thesis finds that if the policy is constructed in a Muslim-culturalist language - that is, diagnosed as a Muslim practice - it leads to disapproval. If the policy is constructed as a gender equal policy beneficial to “all” women, it seems more accessible to keep. In line with previous research, the findings are suggestive of how the idea of multiculturalism as a problem seems to have become salient while gender equality remains a highly attractive master frame, contributing to how the policy of women’s hours is adopted only if successfully connected to other groups of women than Muslim.

Det gör ont när mödomshinnor brister : En studie över gestaltningsramar om hymen i svensk tryckt press / It hurts when hymens are breaking : a study on descriptions of the hymen in Swedish printed press

Nolskog, Cajsa January 2018 (has links)
This essay uses frame analysis to study changes in the descriptions of the hymen in Swedish printed press from 1989-2015. The study shows that the traditional story about the hymen has significant power in the dominant culture and affects the idea of what the hymen is and what is believed to be its functions. The study also showcases how our ideas about the hymen are socially constructed since the descriptions can shift widely but still be considered as the truth. The concept of the hymen has gone through a change over time, from a story of a hymen that breaks during first intercourse, to the hymen being a myth that doesn’t exist at all, to then emerge into the idea of the vaginal corona – another version of a hymen that is different from the traditional image. The study also shows that the traditional frame for describing the hymen does live on, and that the vaginal corona has not replaced the idea of the traditional hymen.
