Impactos econômicos de políticas climáticas no Brasil, nos EUA e na UE / Economic impacts of climate policies in Brazil, the U.S. and EUFrança, Franklin Pedro 21 June 2012 (has links)
With the growing debate about the contribution of human emissions of greenhouse gases, along with pressure from society for a greater commitment of world leaders with policies to mitigate the effects of climate change, it is necessary to study the effects that adoption of climate policies by the countries of the so-called Annex I (developed) and those who belong to non-Annex I (developing) may have on the Brazilian economy. It is also important to analyze how this impact would occur in a context where Brazil would adopt policies to mitigate the effects of climate change, mainly because the country is responsible for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions due to activities related to changes in land use, agriculture and livestock, as well as the increasing pressure for a global commitment to emissions reduction effort. The present study sought to estimate scenarios for Brazil, taking into account domestic and international environmental policies already discussed or implemented by developed countries, and thus determine the impacts on the economies in terms of welfare and product.

Punkestetik : Provokation, revolution eller D.I.Y.?Eneroth, Joacim January 2013 (has links)

Telling the Open Secret: Toward a New Discourse with the U.S. Military’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell PolicyReichert, Andrew D. 2010 August 1900 (has links)
This qualitative dissertation in Counseling Psychology considers the open secret,
an under-researched phrase describing an interesting phenomenon that is experienced by
some, but not all, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) people when their sexual
orientation is known or suspected by family members, friends, and/or coworkers, but not
discussed. A review of the literature notes how the essence of the open secret appears to
be about knowledge that is not acknowledged, while it may also create a space of grace,
allowing people to coexist, where they might not otherwise be able to do so easily.
Participants (N = 11) were either current or past members of the U.S. military
who served before or during the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy. Interviews were analyzed
using James Paul Gee’s linguistic approach to narrative, from which three major findings
emerged: (a) sexual and homophobic harassment, whereby historically homophobic
attitudes within the military drive the need for secrecy surrounding LGBT sexuality; (b)
acceptance and support, whereby the open secret seems to create a space of grace; and (c) empowerment and honesty, whereby LGBT people seem to have a new sense of
honesty that empowers them toward a new sense of agency. Discussion includes
examination of how the three findings may relate to the open versus secret parts of the
open secret, as well as how the open secret and the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy may
represent a gestalt attempt at balance that may now be moving toward a gestalt dynamic
of completion, suggesting the possibility of a new Discourse of openness and honesty for
LGBT people that appears to be on a proleptic edge of possibility.

Forecasts of the past: globalisation, history and contemporary realismMcNeill, D. S. January 2008 (has links)
This thesis takes issue with Fredric Jameson’s suggestion that contemporary science fiction is sending back “more reliable information [about current political and economic organisation] than an exhausted realism” and it develops an alternative Marxist defense of contemporary realist fiction. Can realism's techniques adequately represent the complexity of contemporary political organization? The thesis presents readings of key realist texts — by Pat Barker, Maurice Gee, Kerstin Hensel, James Kelman and David Peace — testing their potential to produce the knowledge of history, industrial politics and the metropolis traditionally central to literary realism’s concerns. The usual extreme-value regression model requires independent observations. In this work, using generalized linear model (Mc-Cullagh e Nelder, 1989) and generalized estimating equations (Liang e Zeger, 1986), we developed the extreme-value regression model when there are independent clusters formed by dependent variables. The behavior of parameter estimators of the proposed model is studied through Monte Carlo simulations.

Previous issue date: 2010-11-19 / Instituto Federal de Educa??o, Ci?ncia e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Norte / As a contemporary tendency, it is been evidenced that the environmental changes theme,
already admitted as a concernment to international economical and political reality, is also
gaining repercussion on industrial and business sector. Firms are implementing actions on
trial to minimize their own greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions impacts. However, the
great majority of those actions of Corporative Social-Environmental Responsibility (CSR)
are referred only to direct emissions of the main production systems. Direct emissions are
those derived of an isolate process, without considering the upstream and downstream
processes emissions, which respond for the majority of emissions originated because of
respective firm‟s production system existence. Because the greenhouse effect occurs
globally and the GHG emissions contribute to the environmental changes independently of
their origin, it must be taken into account the whole productive life cycle of products and
systems, since the energy invested on resources extraction and necessary materials to the
final disposal. To do so, it must be investigated all relevant steps of a product/production
system life cycle, tracking all activities which emit greenhouse gases, directly or indirectly.
This amount of emissions consists in the firm‟s Carbon Footprint. This research purpose is
to defend the Carbon Footprint relevance and its adoption viability to be used as an
Environmental Indicator on measurement/assessment of CSR. It has been realized a
study case on Petrobras‟s seat unity at Natal-Brazil, assessing part of its Carbon Footprint.
It has been used the software GEMIS 4.6 to do the emissions quantifying. The items
measured were the direct emissions of the own unity vehicles and indirect emissions of
offset paper (A4), energy and disposable plastic cups consumed. To 2009, these
emissions were 3.811,94 tCO2eq. We may conclude that Carbon Footprint quantification is
indispensable to the knowledge of real emissions caused by a productive process
existence, must serving as basis to CSR decisions about the environmental changes
As
As
mat?ria-prima e insumos necess?rios at? o descarte final.
A4, energia el?trica e copos pl?sticos descart?veis consumidos.

Stig Johanssons konstkritik 1962/63 samt 1972 : Uppdrag och position / The Art Criticism of Stig Johansson 1962-63 and 1972 : Practice and PositionNordell, Hanna January 2013 (has links)
This study aims to highlight the art critic Stig Johansson's position during two historical moments: 1962-63 and 1972. The theoretical and methodological framework is mainly derived from Pierre Bourdieu’s understanding of the art field and the art critic's role and mission within that specific field. Art criticism is an important text source for expanded knowledge of how the discussion of contemporary art has been conducted. In the first chapter of the thesis, I describe some of the investments that preceded Johansson’s role as art critic. These efforts are to be regarded as field-specific as they were preparing Johansson with the kind of social capital that won recognition in the art field. In the second part of the essay, I distinguish between the art critical genre and mission. Instead of limiting the study to art reviews, which is usually associated with the genre of art criticism, the thesis also include material such as debate articles and notices. The study of these different text types contribute to an increased understanding of how art criticism practice actually worked, and what was to be included in such practices during these historical periods. The third chapter is based on an empirical study and focus on three selected themes: the new, the political and the art critic role. The fourth part consists of a text analysis based on Malcolm Gee’s strategies for persuasion in art criticism. A presentation and discussion of the art critical material, and hence the position Johansson takes, contributes to an increased understanding of the negotiations that characterized the art field during the periods in question. The thesis contributes to a nuanced perspective on the production of meaning through problematizing positions and values in the Swedish art field during two important historical moments.

The Trust Study – Transition Us Together: Evaluating the Impact of A Parent- And Adolescent-Centered Transition Toolkit On Transition Readiness In Patients With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis And Childhood-Onset Systemic Lupus ErythematosusHeera, Simran 05 1900 (has links)
Aging adolescents with rheumatic disease adopt responsibility for disease management from parents. Education on transition care is usually provided to patients by healthcare providers or parents. However, parent-focused transition resources are sparse with limited understanding of parental role and involvement during transition. After providing both parent and adolescent with the Transition Toolkit (parent-centered transition pamphlet, 5 domains of transition readiness roadmap, tip sheets) to support transition to adult care, we aimed to i) determine the change in patient’s transition readiness, using the Transition-Q, ii) explore the influence of parent-adolescent relationships on transition readiness, using the Parent-Adolescent Communication Scale (PACS), and iii) obtain feedback on the Toolkit’s effectiveness, using a questionnaire. A prospective cohort study of patients 14-18 years was conducted at McMaster Children’s Hospital rheumatology transition clinic (includes pediatric rheumatologists, allied health, and the adult rheumatologist patients see post-transfer). Participant demographics, disease characteristics, transition readiness scores (Transition-Q, max 100), and parent-adolescent communication scores (PACS, max 100) were collected. After obtaining 2 Transition-Q scores from routine clinical care prior to enrollment, the Toolkit was shared with participants, and 2 follow-up Transition-Q scores were collected. Generalized estimating equation analyses were performed to determine the Toolkit’s impact on transition readiness and explore the parent-adolescent relationship and communication quality. Subgroup analyses were conducted by sex. A questionnaire was used to obtain Toolkit feedback. Of 21 patients, 19 completed one post-intervention Transition-Q and 16 completed two. Transition-Q scores increased over time and the rate of increase doubled after the Toolkit was shared with adolescents and parents (β=7.8, P<0.0 and β=15.5, P<0.0, respectively). Transition readiness did not seem to be influenced by the quality of communication between parent and child. Feedback from questionnaire responses found the Toolkit to be a helpful resource but standardization of transition programs and further investigation into parent-adolescent relationships, gender differences, and intervention sustainability is needed. / Thesis / Master of Science Rehabilitation Science (MSc) / Aging youths with rheumatic disease adopt the responsibility of disease management from parents. However, few resources to educate parents on transition and transition support exist. After giving patients and parents a Transition Toolkit, we aimed to i) determine change in patient’s transition readiness, ii) explore the influence of parent-adolescent relationships on transition readiness, and iii) obtain feedback on Toolkit use. Twenty-one study participants were recruited. Participant demographics, transition readiness scores, and parent-adolescent communication scores were collected. Transition-Q scores were collected before and after Toolkit provision. Analyses were performed to determine Toolkit impact and influence of parent-adolescent communication on transition readiness. Toolkit feedback from parents and adolescents were obtained through a questionnaire. Transition-Q scores increased at each follow-up, with the greatest increase after the Toolkit was shared. Parent-adolescent relationships did not influence transition readiness. Toolkit feedback suggests digital reminders to improve long-term retention of transition education. Future studies with greater patient diversity are recommended.
