En trädgård med flera funktioner : Gestaltningsförslag för utemiljön på Stenkyrka Mejeri, Hotell och Restaurang, Stenkyrka, Gotland

Kull, Eva January 2009 (has links)

Djurhushållningen i Västergarn : en osteoarkeologisk fallstudie av animalt benmaterial från Snauvalds 1:2, Västergarn, Gotland / Animal husbandry in Västergarn parish : an osteoarchaeological case study of animal bone material from Snauvalds 1:2, Västergarn, Gotland

Hammarsten, Eleonor January 2013 (has links)
In this Bachelor thesis an animal bone material from Västergarn parish is analyzed and discussed. The purpose of this thesis is to gain more knowledge about the Viking Age/Early Medieval Västergarn. Västergarn has a few remains from former days which have been discussed throughout the years and are still a bit of a mystery for archaeologists. The main focus is to inquire into whether Västergarn was an urban, complex society or a rural settlement. This will be done by studying the animal husbandry from the property of Snauvalds 1:2. The animal bones have been typed, and sex and age estimations have been made on the most common domestic animals, ergo cattle, sheep/goat and pig. The result from the analysis shows that Västergarn has tendencies of both countryside settlement and a more urban society and the final conclusion is that it has most probably been a trading place or a market place considering its closeness to a Viking Age harbor.

Kritpipor, tobak och Västergarn : historik och arkeologisk funktion / Clay pipes, tobaco and Västergarn : history and archeological function

Jibbefors, Tony January 2013 (has links)
This essay represents a chronological and contextual analysis of clay pipes that have been found in the urban settlement of Västergarn during seminary excavations between 2006 – 2012, conducted by Gotland University. Clay pipes can be dated closely and are useful means for dating and interpreting archaeological contexts from the early modern period, such as house foundations. There have been excavated four house foundations in Västergarn with different sorts of clay pipes dating to the post-medieval period. Can they tell which people used them or which country they were produced? By discussing the meaning of clay pipes in early modern society on Gotland this essay tries to answer these questions.

Det medeltida Visby : en kritisk studie av disskusionen om stadens etablering / Medieval Visby : a critical evaluation of the discussion on Visbys foundation

Thell, Kevin January 2013 (has links)
Visby is a city that at first glance is of medieval origins. The popular image of scientists today is that the city was formed in the Middle Ages. According to some of the researchers Visby was formed during the Viking Age, it is based on the basis that the area has been used for a long period. Urban development in the Nordic countries is complex and there are different opinions as to why the Nordic cities emerge. It is important to shed light on the underlying process on why cities are emerging to provide clarity as to why Visby city is emerging. The aim of this paper is to do analyze the theories of several researchers, considering the urban development of Visby. The results show that the area of Visby has been a place that has been used since Stone Age, during the Viking age the area was a place for season trade. According to the archaeological sources is it not an indication of at town during the Viking age, because of the lack of permanent buildings.

Komplexitet i sten : en jämförande analys av inre samtyttre grav- och byggnadsstruktur hosfem gotländska bronsåldersrösen / Complexity in stone : a comparative analysis of inner and outer burial and building structure in five Gotland Bronze Age cairns

Franzén, Emelie January 2012 (has links)
This thesis concerns five Gotland Bronze Age cairns. They have been analyzed in order to compare their inner and outer burial - and building context. The analysis then forms the basis for the discussion of the similarities and differences observed. These five cairns along with the cairn Uggarderojr are presented in detail and compared. Major similarities were found between four of the five cairns. They all have one or more interior wall, a central tomb and other tombs in the form of cremations and skeletal graves scattered in various levels of the cairn and an erected stone in south, south-west position of the cairn. Differences are seen between the mound at Väskinde and the rest. Since Väskinde do not feature a strongly marked central tomb or a stone in the south and have one instead of two interior walls. However, it has been difficult to make detailed analyses of the numerous artifacts and the secondary graves found in the cairns since looting and destruction has been extensive in several cases. The similarities and differences observed between the cairns have been discussed in relationship to the not yet investigated large cairn called Uggarderojr. I. From the cases studied it has been postulated that Uggarderojr like the other cairns could have one or more interior walls, a central tomb in line with the stone in the south and possibly containing multiple secondary burials.

Trattbägarkeramik i Väte : när jordbruket kom till Gotland / Funnel Beakers in Väte : when agriculture came to Gotland

Grahn, Emma January 2012 (has links)
This essay is a study and analysis of the funnel beaker pottery at Gullarve 1:13 in Väte parish. The purpose of the study is to analyse the chronology of the settlement by determine the distribution, stratigraphic context and the ornamentation of the pottery. Another purpose is to discuss the geographical location of the settlement in the landscape. In this essay a short review of the pottery and the funnel beaker culture as well as a description of the pottery from the archaeological excavation from 1984 at Gullarve 1:13 is presented. Since the documentation of the archaeological excavation from 1984 is missing or is very inadequate, no spatial analysis can be carried out. The distribution of the pottery can’t contribute to the result of the essay, though if possible it probably would have provided some interesting results. A clear stratigraphic difference of pottery with ornamentation and flint is indicated. The earliest radiocarbon date of the settlement is approximately 5000 BC. The funnel beaker pottery is generally dated to 4200 BC, which suggests that the Väte settlements on Gotland are the earliest agriculture settlements in Sweden. This area provide a productive natural resource area around the settlement, including a sweet water lake and sandy soil, which indicates a typical funnel beaker settlement at Gotland. One can easily understand why the inhabitants of the early Neolithic settlement chose to live at Gullarve 7000 years ago.

De dolda sjukdomarna : osteoporos och artros kvarteret Banken 1 i Visby / The hidden diseases : osteoporosis and osteoarthritis from the block Banken 1 in Visby

Bonds, Julia January 2012 (has links)
This Bachelor paper deals with skeletal diseases like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. 24 medieval individuals from the block Banken 1 in Visby, Gotland were chosen for an osteological analysis. Osteoporosis affects the bone with low bone mineral density and can lead to possible fractures and Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease. A DEXA reading was done at Dr. Roland Alvarssons Doctorial practice in Visby and the results from the DEXA reading showed that none of the individuals suffered from osteoporosis, but one suffered from osteopenia. Some individuals were x-rayed at Visby hospital and the x-rays were interpreted by Dr. Staffan Jennerholm. The x-ray showed that two individuals suffered from osteoarthritis. You can get a glint into the past and daily life of medieval people with a little help of modern technology like x-ray and DEXA reading.

Consumers’ Attitude towards Online Shopping : Factors influencing Gotland consumers to shop online

Sultan, Muhammad Umar, Uddin, Md. Nasir January 2011 (has links)
In the era of globalization electronic marketing is a great revolution.  Over the last decade maximum business organizations are running with technological change.  Online shopping or marketing is the use of technology (i.e., computer) for better marketing performance. And retailers are devising strategies to meet the demand of online shoppers; they are busy in studying consumer behavior in the field of online shopping, to see the consumer attitudes towards online shopping. Therefore we have also decided to study consumer’s attitudes towards online shopping and specifically studying the factors influencing consumers to shop online. The population selected for the research is Gotland, and narrowed down to Gotland University students, University cafeteria and Gotland Public library, the sample size selected for this research is 100 and we have used convenience sampling technique. Our findings indicated that among the four factors selected for this research the most attractive and influencing factor for online shoppers in Gotland is Website Design/Features, following convenience the second most influencing and thirdly time saving. Results have also showed that security is of important concern among online shoppers in Gotland. The research has also found that there are some other factors which influence online shoppers including, less price, discount, feedback from previous customers and quality of product. For the second research question i.e. who are online shoppers in term of demography: the correlation results for the age and attitudes towards online shopping has showed that elderly people are not so keen to shop online. Whereas for education it is concluded that higher education makes online shopping less attractive, for the income the correlation results are so weak hence we could not conclude anything out of it. It is expected that this study will not only help retailers in Gotland to devise successful strategies for online shoppers but it will also provide a base for similar studies in the felid of consumer attitudes towards online shopping.
