Teaching strategies utilized by non-special education teachers in inclusive further education and training classrooms

Van Staden, Shauwn Quinton January 2010 (has links)
Dissertation (Magister Educationis(Education Management))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2010 / The Policy Document, Education White Paper 6 (Department of Education, 2001) states that all learners irrespective of their barriers to learning and development, have a right to be educated in ordinary schools, together with their peers. The inclusion of learners who are deaf/hearing impaired in mainstream Further Education and Training (FET) classrooms means that these learners are no longer being taught by special educators who are trained to cater for their special needs. In this study the learners are taught in regular classrooms by non-special education subject teachers who have had no formal training in how to teach learners with special needs specifically learners who are deaf/hearing impaired. A qualitative exploratory design with multiple methods for data collection (questionnaires, informal discussions, nonparticipant classroom observations and video footage) was employed in this study. A non-random purposive sampling which consisted of three non-special education subject teachers who teach two learners who are deaf/hearing impaired in the Further Education and Training phase at two mainstream educational institutions participated in the research. The aim of this study was to explore the kind of strategies these teachers use when they mediate learning in classrooms where there are deaf/hearing impaired learners. The study has indicated that while the educators might express a lack of confidence in their abilities, they do cater for the needs of deaf/hearing impaired learners who experience barriers to learning albeit in different ways.

Pracovní rehabilitace a její zabezpečení úřady práce v Ústeckém kraji / Work rehabilitation and its security provided by labour offices in the Ústecký region

JEŽKOVÁ, Jana January 2008 (has links)
Working rehabilitation is the topic of my diploma thesis. Finding out the ways of securing working rehabilitation by the employment offices in the region of Ústí nad Labem on the basis of secondary sources and qualitative talks is the aim of this diploma thesis. So far in the Czech Republic hasn´t been the system providing comprehensive solution of the health handicapped employment. The Act Employment n.435/2004, Code introduces the institute of working rehabilitation in order to provide the access and comeback to the labour market for the health handicapped. Supporting the policy which enable to employ these handicapped people is the the next objective of this institute. The employment offices as the state administration bodies provide the employment facilities in a given region, they are independent subjects, territorially organized in districts and their legislative duties contain working rehabilitation securing. Research respondents were the particular employment offices in the region of Ústí nad Labem personnel who are interested in working rehabilitation and really practise it. The region of ústí nad Labem belongs to the Czech Republic area maintaining the primacy in the field of the unemployment. The unemployment as a result of labour market functioning is one of the contemporary world problems. Labour market is very dynamic phenomenon which reacts to technological development and economic situation. Nowadayas with the essential decrease in working positions there is a decrease in free working positions reserved for the handicapped and thus the participation of the handiccaped in the total number of job applicants has been steadily increased. The integration of these handiccaped to the labour market is affected by lots of factors among others by insuficcient awareness of their needs and weak points of the contemporary functioning from the legistation and practise view point. Creating procedures which enable to make provision for needs and skills of working rehabilitation participants and thereby increasing their participation at labour market was the intention of this diploma thesis. The targets were fulfilled so there were suggested three variants which show various possibilities of the initiation of working rehabilitation process and enable the effective usage of their particular forms. The diploma thesis results can be used either by the employment offices personnel throughout the Czech Republic or by the specialized experts who are interested in the problem of working rehabilitation.

Analýza vybavenosti sociálními službami v regionu Příbram / Analysis of facilities of social services in the Region of Příbram

SLEZÁKOVÁ, Markéta January 2008 (has links)
In choosing the subject of this degree work I was led by the effort to give an exhaustive integral report on the development in the sphere of the social and health care and to analyze the facilities for social sevices in the region of Příbram. As it is not possible to evaluate the facilities for social services without the description of basic historical events, of current demographic indexes and without the indication of the future development, the historical part together with the specification of particular groups threatened with social exclusion (seniors and handicapped people) forms an indispensable chapter of the theoretical part of this degree work. In connection with the fact that the region of Příbram is a specific industrial locality with signs of changes in the original structure of the population, it is possible to state that the people moved herein show less family solidarity and unity with each other. For that reason more facilities for social services are at disposal in this region. It is the unity care service rendered not only in own homes but directly in the houses of the clients as well, that has the oldest tradition among all providers The family nursing care rendered by one of two organizations has already the tradition of more than 15 years too. As to the care of seniors, the most significant provider that is the allowance organization "Pečovatelská služba města Příbram". This organization offers field care service and runs the home for seniors. The service, that supports especially the security of the seniors in their households, that is AREÍON-Život 90 with about 50-60 clients.A great advantage is also the fact that a part of providers of social and associated services have the seat at the same place, in the Community Centre. As to the care of handicapped people the strongest point are the family care CHOPS and SANCO, the field care service and other services rendered by "Pečovatelská služba města Příbram", the activities of unions and organizations associating handicapped people, assistance services and consultancy, community centre Příbram VII, day centre in the town nursery school and in the rehabilitation short stay hospital It is not simple to prognosticate further development as to rendering social services a relatively active social policy on the local level and a large extent of collaboration among particular groups of those, who provide social services, are promising and hopeful for the future. An important role will play the fact whether these organizations will obtain sufficient financial means needed for ensuring the services, they offer, within the sphere of multisorce financing. The demand for services and staffs meeting the requirements fixed by the Act on social services will be of great importance too.

Vliv pohádkových postav na vývoj mentálně postižených dětí / The fairy-tail characters influence on a mentally affected children progression The influence of fairytale characters on the development of mentally handicapped children

KREJČOVÁ, Irena January 2009 (has links)
Fairy tales are a basic way of mediating social, ethic, and cultural values to children. The form of a story is accessible and understandable to children. By their definiteness fairytale characters enable children to understand and differentiate the good and the evil, the right and the wrong, the positive and the negative more easily. Mental handicap influences the whole personality and proves by a lower level of rational abilities and a different way of perception. Nobody has specified so far to what extent fairytale characters influence the development of mentally handicapped children. The aim of my work was to find out whether mentally handicapped children know and perceive fairytale characters and whether they are influenced by them similarly to healthy children. The examined complex included ten children with a medium-severe mental retardation aged 12 {--} 19. The research was carried out by semi {--} structured dialogues with children, their parents, and school workers. I also used a method of structured observation and anylysis of products. All the ten children meet with fairy tales regularly. All children prefer audiovisual forms of fairy tales. The parents of three children stated that they also read fairy tales to their children. The children were able to name 3 {--} 18 fairy tales. They were able to present their favourite characters together with their characteristcs. In nine cases it was a positive character, one child gave a negative character. Eight children could name both positive and negative characters. A typical fairytale character of a devil is understandable better than a character of a water sprite, which is ambiguous for them. In a free drawing fairytale topics occured only sporadically in figural and technical motives. The occurence of fairytale motives in spontaeous children´s play and their conversation was also sporadic. Understanding a fairy tale and fairytale characters is limited with mentally handicapped children. Although audiovisual forms of fairy tales are criticised in literature, for these children they seem to be more accessible. TV interpretation of a fairy tale is more understandable for them. It mediates information for more senses simultaneously and thus it has a bigger chance to capture them.

Jeane dos Reis Passos 06 August 2010 (has links)
This thesis discuss the issue of visually handicapped, who have ingressed or egressed on higher education of São Paulo as information is regarded; identifying how these students realize the information need and how to acquire, understand and use it. Therefore, a bibliographic review has been developed to discuss the historical and conceptual aspects of Information Literacy, as well as its actions aiming students of higher education. The Brazilians visually handicappeds environment was regarded, focusing on higher education and considering the intellectual, technological, access to physical resources and content scenery in which they live in. In this context, a map of abilities and information literacy skills to be developed by visually handicapped was created, starting from Carol Kuhlthaus Information Literacy model named Information Search Process ISP, which shows the development of gathering instruments, the gathering itself and the analysis of the gathered data. Because it is an exploratory study, a qualitative approach was considered, using the user study to create a map of the questions proposed. A semi-structured interview was made with 10 visually handicapped on graduation or postgraduate education. Produced the results from the diagnosis made in the research and study by Christina Doyle which presents a survey of the predicates for a person to be considered \"information literate.\" As a final result, it presents a list of possible actions for the actors of the educational process of the visually handicapped, especially in higher education, can define actions necessary for the development or promotion of Information Literacy programs specific to the visually handicapped, in order to make them competent in information. It was identified that these actions are contained in three dimensions related to the barriers of accessibility: informational, digital and within relationships.

Müller, Marcelle Suzete January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to create guidelines which help in the development of projects for accessible infant playgrounds to handicapped children. The national laws, decrees and rules such as: a law nº 7.853/1989; the decree nº 5.296/2004; and the rules ABNT NBR 9050/2004 and NBR 16071/2012, just aim broad recommendations to be applied in leisure environments, just informing about the necessity of creating accessible places without indicating how and its form. Therefore, with the objective of establishing and delimitating the existing blanks, this study presents a wide correlation from the obtained data in documentary review of national and international laws, ergonomy concepts, accessibility, assistive technology, universal design principles and field survey at public schools. By its problem extent, the research limited the investigation just to accessibility of wheelchair users, following the steps of Ergonomic Methodology for Built Environment – MEAC. The results are specific guidelines which serve for the courtyard as well as for the infant playground toys.

Joaquim, Rosangela do Carmo Vendramel 21 February 2006 (has links)
Orientador: Clara Germana de Sa Gonçalves Nascimento / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Educação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-06T14:00:47Z (GMT). Ficou evidenciada, ainda, a necessidade do estabelecimento mais objetivo, do papel do Professor Itinerante, no contexto de sua atuação na escola regular / Abstract: This study constitutes an analysis of the implementation process of Public Policies in Special Education in the Municipal Schools of Campinas, in the period of 1989 to 2004.To indicate the historical, political and educational contexts in which these Policies were implemented, we proceeded with a reconstruction of the main legal acts and political-educational actions in the period, with covers four Municipal Governments. In this trajectory, we chose to conduct a collection and analysis of information from two aspects: a ¿documental¿ and a ¿lived¿, considering for the first aspect, the legal texts and official documents that were made available by the Municipal Secretary of Education and/or by Professionals in Special Education from this net of Municipal Schools, who were essential to the planning and implementation of Special Education Policies in the Municipal Schools in Campinas. In the ¿lived¿ aspect, we defined as essential the depositions from Itinerants Teachers in Special Education, specially selected to constitute a representative sample in the Research, as these professionals have a direct contact with the school reality and are able to offer information about how the proposals and the policies in special education are being developed, understood and lived in the daily educational routine in the municipal schools in Campinas. The study evidenced that besides the lack of continuity of educational proposals between the different municipal Governments; there was an effective participation of Special Education Teachers in the process of planning and discussing them and a significant advance in the conceptions and actions related to the process of inclusion of students with special education needs, according to the existing cases from the considered period. The research also evidenced conflicting aspects of the specializing supporting work in special education in the daily activities in relation to the differentiated training of teachers, the characteristics of special education students, and insufficient or non-existent process of communication between the various sectors of social policies in the city. Finally, it was evidenced the need for a more objective establishment of the role of itinerant teachers in the context of their actual role in regular schools / Mestrado / Politicas de Educação e Sistemas Educativos / Mestre em Educação

Melo, Victor Hugo de 27 March 2014 (has links)
Physical activity has been recommended for its importance in the prevention of disease and health, although amputees have lower levels of physical activity, as well as changes in specific characteristics that may change the nature of the relationship between physical activity and quality of life. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate factors associated with higher levels of physical activity as well as to verify the relationship between physical activity and quality of life. For such a cross-sectional study using forms with social and clinical questionnaires and quality of life WHOQOL -BREF and the IPAQ physical activity questions was conducted. For categorical variables the chi-square test p < 0.05 was used, the numerical variables were evaluated using the Student t test p < 0.05 and variables with p < 0.2 were entered into a logistic regression model . The level of physical activity was correlated only with the physical and psychological domains p < 0.05 quality of life, and factors related to physical activity levels were age , functional independence and participation in the rehabilitation program p < 0 , 05. There was no change in the nature of the relationship between physical activity and quality of life , and rehabilitation program was the only variable associated with higher levels of physical activity , an increased risk of chance in twenty- five times for the individual to be active.

Santos, Flávio Correia 29 August 2014 (has links)
This work aims to analyze the methodologies and resources used by professors of exact sciences in their classes attended by visually impaired students at the Federal University of Sergipe. We opted to carry out qualitative research with a case study approach. The results indicate that it is not enough to implement an affirmative action policy with reserved seats at the university for disabled students. A large number of transformations should also take place in different aspects of the university, such as its physical structure, the faculty´s teaching practices, the curriculum, and also professors´ ongoing development in his/her work as a teacher of exact sciences. We come to the conclusion that the professors surveyed do not regard blind students as their students, but rather as a student of the university, which should be responsible for the learning process experienced by these students.
