Homesteading in Cebolla Canyon, New Mexico: Ethnicity Studies in Using Dendrochronology, Historical Documents, and Oral Histories

Cebolla Canyon, in the El Malpais National Conservation Area, New Mexico, was homesteaded extensively in the late 18th and early 19th centuries by Hispanic and Euro-American families. The local environment provided grazing resources for sheep and cows, and the ability to homestead in this area allowed families to pursue seasonal or year-round occupation. The regional histories of these migrants differ, but the exploitation possibilities of land and timber provided people with the promise of land ownership and sustainability with respect to their necessities and desires; these are strongly based on sociopolitical factors of the time. Focus here is on Hispanic and Euro-American homesteading sites, comparatively. Dendrochronology can provide target dates for felling events, and in combination with archaeological remains we can grasp the duration of occupation for homesteading sites. We can also identify methods in which ethnicity can be delineated in the historical archaeological record. Further insight is provided by historical documents, such as census records and homesteading patents that can give us an idea of how people institutionally- or self-identified as an ethnic group. Additionally, information about interactions between ethnic groups can be parsed from historical documents that may not be fully present in the archaeological record.

Added to this, we will discuss dessemantization of the word, emptying the code, the tropes of speech or change of direction that was focused on the facts, so we can verify as that the metaphorical aspect involves the three parts of the book, "Earth, Man and Fight. Our intention is to shed light on the literariness in Os Sertões, as the euclidean narrator driven by rare artistic talent deals with the backcountry imaginary, Antonio Conselheiro and the Republic so that we can detect certain convictions before us unfathomable in the light of the historiographical discourse, but that, using the mythical and fictional discourse, new hypotheses are suggested, as the reasons of non delivery, no surrender, heroism, fundamentalism as present in the analyzed work. Thus, we propose a possible reading in a work whose complexity analysis and discussion is an impassable ocean, inexhaustible, capable of transcending time and history itself. / O estudo a seguir se trata de uma leitura da obra Os Sertões de Euclides da Cunha na qual traremos à tona, dentre outras preocupações da crítica, os problemas da ficção, de modo geral refletidos e elaborados no romance moderno, a estreita relação entre a História e a Literatura, bem como, a passagem do histórico para o narrativo-historial. Somado a isso, iremos discutir a dessemantização da palavra, o esvaziamento do código, os tropos do discurso ou a mudança de direção que houve no enfoque dos fatos, para então podermos verificar todo aspecto metafórico que envolve as três partes da obra, “Terra, Homem e Luta”. Nosso intuito é lançar luzes sobre a literariedade em Os Sertões, de como o narrador euclidiano, movido por raríssimo talento artístico aborda a questão do imaginário do sertanejo, de Antônio Conselheiro e da República a fim de que possamos detectar certas convicções que se nos apresentam insondáveis à luz do discurso historiográfico, mas que, recorrendo ao discurso mítico-romanesco, novas hipóteses são aventadas, como os porquês da não entrega, da não rendição, do heroísmo, do fundamentalismo tão presentes na obra em análise. Destarte, propomos uma possibilidade de leitura em uma obra cuja complexidade de análise e discussão é um oceano intransponível e inesgotável, capaz de transcender o tempo e a própria História.

A imagem do \"vazio\" tem persistido em representar os sertões das capitanias do Norte. Trata-se de um vazio de construção histórica e historiográfica. Os estudos e textos de Euclides da Cunha, Capistrano de Abreu e Caio Prado Jr. contemplaram esse estereótipo amplamente divulgado e sedimentado no habitual sertão nordestino, este associado à seca, ao isolamento e à rusticidade do mundo urbano. Fluindo contra essas leituras, a presente tese se esforça em desmistificar os qualificativos de desvalor por desconstruir a ideia de vazio reconstruindo os processos de urbanização e a formação das paisagens dos sertões do Norte na época colonial. Atenta-se para a longa duração com o objetivo de interpretar as políticas da Coroa portuguesa e as atividades do cotidiano materializadas numa hierárquica rede de povoações estruturada por missões, capelas, freguesias, \"lugar de índios\", julgados, vilas e cidade. Põe luz nos atores, na rede de relações e nas hierarquias sociais verificando suas implicações na transformação da paisagem e na urbanização desses sertões. It is a void of historical and historiographic construction. The studies and texts of Euclides da Cunha, Capistrano de Abreu and Caio Prado Jr. contemplated this stereotype widely disseminated and sedimented in the usual \"sertão nordestino\" associated with the drought, isolation and rusticity of the urban world. Flowing against these readings, the present thesis seek to demystify the qualifiers of devaluation by deconstructing the idea of emptiness reconstructing the processes of urbanization and the formation of the landscapes of the backlands of \"sertões\" (hinterlands) colonial times. Attention is paid to the long duration with the objective of interpreting the policies of the Portuguese Crown and daily activities materialized in a hierarchical network of settlements structured by missions, chapels, parishes, \"lugares de índios\", \"julgados\", towns and cities. It sheds light on the actors, the network of relationships and social hierarchies, verifying their implications for the transformation of the landscape and the urbanization of these sertões. As a theoretical-methodological contribution, text (hermeneutics) and image (representation) are intertwined to \"pensar con los ojos\" (think with the eyes) - according to the poetic meaning of the Argentine art historian Damián Bayón - in order to fill the gaps that forged the supposed \"silence\" . Historický vývoj nefrologického ošetřovatelství a potřeba ošetřovatelského standardu v oboru / Historical development of nephrology nursing practice and the need of standards in this field

Nursing care in nephrology brings certain specifics both for the patient and for the nursing staff concerned. For each member of a nephrology multidisciplinary team that participates in identification and meeting bio-psycho-social and spiritual needs of dialysed patients, the quality nursing care provision and the patients´ safety assuring should be the rule. To assure quality care provision in a health care facility, it is necessary to define the professional level of quality, i.e. to introduce processual nursing standards at the national level for all dialysis centers. The objective of this thesis was to make a survey of historical milestones in the development of nephrology nursing in the Czech Republic (in the former Czechoslovakia), from its beginning to present days. In individual parts of the theoretical section various contexts of nursing issues (historical, legal, social, relational, educational) and their interaction are described. The thesis also is focused on detection the importance of aspects influencing the quality of provided nursing care in nephrology and realization of analysis the use and compliance with the existing local nursing standards in individual dialysis centers in the Czech Republic. Another objectives of this thesis were detection of satisfaction rate with existing national standards for nephrology nursing care and to make up a proposal of a national processual standard of nursing care provided to adult dialysed patients. To obtain data the mixed methods research was used. The practical part offers, through conclusions of the quantitative research, explanations of many facts by confirmation or refutation of hypotheses arisen from the qualitative research. The nursing research was conducted through a questionnaire survey in dialysis centers in the Czech Republic. The respondents were head nurses - nursing care managers working in these units. Interviews with representatives of the biggest professional organization of nurses {--} the Czech Nurses Association were also carried out as another research procedure. The survey outcomes have clearly demonstrated the need to introduce national processual standards of nursing care in nephrology practice. Description of the present state is the first step for its improvement. The way out from the current situation is the development of general national processual standards for individual areas of care for nephrology patients and subsequent introduction of them into clinical practice in all dialysis centers in the Czech Republic. One of the components of the thesis is a proposal of the national processual standard of nursing care for a dialysed patient with acute or permanent central venous catheter (CVC). This standard could serve as a model for the development of other national standards of nursing care in nephrology.

L'usage des sources primaires dans les manuels du secondaire en Histoire et éducation à la citoyenneté au Québec

Le Renouveau pédagogique, mis en place au Québec en 2005 à l’ordre secondaire, a eu pour effet de forcer plusieurs enseignants à remettre en question leurs pratiques pédagogiques avec l’approche par compétences. Considérant que les recherches sur l’ancien programme d’histoire ont démontré que les enseignants utilisaient la plupart du temps le manuel comme outil unique, que les manuels contenaient peu de sources primaires et que l’usage de sources est maintenant prescrit par le ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport, nous analysons dans cette recherche l’usage des sources primaires dans les nouveaux manuels d’Histoire et éducation à la citoyenneté du niveau secondaire. L’analyse de nos résultats nous a permis de fournir les outils nécessaires afin de répondre à notre question de recherche. Nous avons constaté la présence majoritaire des sources primaires dans les manuels. Par contre, celles-ci n’étaient pas toujours incluses dans une situation d’apprentissage avec au moins une compétence disciplinaire et, dans encore moins de cas, dans une tâche complexe en lien avec la méthode historique. / Educational Renewal, established in Quebec in 2005 at the secondary level had the effect of forcing many teachers to question their teaching practices with the skills approach. Considering that research on the old history program showed that teachers used mostly textbook as a unique tool, that contained few primary sources and these sources are now prescribed by the ministry of Education, Recreation and Sport, we determine in this research the use of primary sources in the new history and citizenship education textbooks of at the secondary level. The analysis of our results allowed us to provide the tools necessary to answer our research question. Our first observation was to note the presence of the majority of primary sources in the textbooks. They were not always included in a learning situation, including at least one of disciplinary skill and, in even fewer cases, in a complex task in connection with the historical method.

O filósofo sente a necessidade de fundamentar sua fenomenologia com um novo viés metodológico que permita uma visualização do contexto e asseguramento das bases em que o ser-aí se encontra, a saber, em um contexto de já sendo um-com-outro. Este contexto de já ser-um-com-outro em nenhum momento terá importância secundária em relação à linguagem, mas terá que ser desdobrado em seus pormenores para a assunção da própria linguagem enquanto força motriz do pensamento heideggeriano nesses anos. Para tanto, Heidegger, na preleção de verão de 1934 intitulada “Lógica como o Questionamento da Essência da Linguagem, inicia fazendo uma análise do que seja a essência da linguagem e chega a conclusão de que não alcançaremos esta essência se compreendermos linguagem somente enquanto uma exposição do modus operandi do pensamento : lógica. A essência da linguagem brota da essência do ser do ser humano enquanto ser histórico.Linguagem surge como medida dos limites mais internos da constituição do ser-aí enquanto ser-um-com-outro,ou para ser ainda mais condizente com as pretensões de Heidegger,os limites mais internos do ser-aí historial constituído enquanto Volk. Nesse contexto, linguagem é mais que um mero instrumento á disposição do homem. Pelo contrário, linguagem é aquilo que primeiro dispõe o ser do homem no mundo, abrindo-lhe a possibilidade de estar em meio aos entes, dando-lhe compreensibilidade das relações em que está inserido. Devemos entender linguagem não enquanto um dispositivo lógico-gramátical de articulação de palavras ,mas sim no sentido fenomenológico enquanto um organizador primário que possibilita sentido as relações entre os entes e seres-aí. / The question of language in the years 1932 to 1934 emerges as an urgent matter of foundation and, let alone, redirection of Heidegger's thought. The philosopher feels the need to base his phenomenology with a new methodological bias that allows a visualization of the context and assurance of the bases in which the being-there is, in a context of being already with one another. This context of already beingone-with-another will at no time is of secondary importance in relation to language, but it will have to be deployed in its details for the assumption of language itself as the driving force of Heidegger's thought in those years. For this, Heidegger, In the summer lecture of 1934 entitled "Logic as the Questioning of the Essence of Language”, begins by making an analysis of what is the essence of language and comes to the conclusion that we will not reach this essence if we understand language only as an exposition of the modus operandi of thought : Logic. The essence of language springs from the essence of the being of the human being as a historical being. Language arises as a measure of the innermost limits of the constitution of being-there while being-one-with-another, or to be even more in keeping with Heidegger's pretensions, the innermost limits of being-there history constituted as Volk. In this context, language is more than a mere instrument at the disposal of man. On the contrary, language is that which first disposes the being of man in the world, opening the possibility of being in the midst of beings, giving him an understanding of the relationships in which he is inserted. We must understand language not as a logical-grammatical device of articulation of words, but rather in the phenomenological sense as a primary organizer that makes sense of the relationships between beings and beings-there.

Permanência, identidade e rearquitetura social : outro olhar para a preservação

Esta tese funde a princípios de preservação revisados a ideia de transformação social que possa se dar de forma legítima e sólida, tanto para moradores de habitações sociais ou em situação de rua como para toda a sociedade. É lançado outro olhar sobre a teoria e a prática do exercício intencional sobre as permanências e transformações; não aquele das cartas de conservação do patrimônio histórico – sob a égide do desenvolvimento patriarcal e do domínio mercantil –, mas um que se amplia até a área da rearquitetura social, o fazer arquitetura sobre a arquitetura social preexistente; nesse caso, contribuindo para as transformações de uma realidade homogeneizante, de segregação e subjugo. Um olhar que vê a preservação como algo natural, não imposto, característica de uma sociedade multicultural, com equilíbrio e justiça entre os homens e entre o sujeito e a coletividade, que parte do princípio de que a necessidade de pertencer e se individualizar é inerente a todos os sujeitos e que o preservar deve ajudar a manter a participação de todos no caráter da sociedade, representando as diversas identidades e suas expressões. Destaca-se, nesse processo, que a identidade da repetição e da diferença é aspecto fundamental para o preservar, e que essa ação se estabelece na interdependência da permanência com a transformação, dentro de uma lógica complexa e diversa de uma estrutura caleidoscópica multidirecional de relações humanas. Para essa construção são revisados e analisados conceitos como o de patrimônio, patrimônio histórico, monumento e monumento histórico, e trabalhado o mal do arquivo, da acumulação e do progresso, estabelecendo-se ainda uma aproximação às concepções da Nova Museologia. Essa obra, além do desenvolvimento teórico, se constrói na observação e reflexão de ambientes e eventos concretos, cotidianos, ilustrados por exemplos estudados e experienciados. Alguns desses exemplos já representam a contestação de um modelo que não atende as demandas sociais contemporâneas. / This thesis merges to revised principles of preservation the idea of social transformation, which can take place in a legitimate and solid way, both for residents of public housing or for the homeless population and the whole society. We look at the theory and practice of intentional exercise on the permanencies and transformations from under a different perspective. Not the one of the letters of historical patrimony conservation, under the aegis of patriarchal development and mercantile area, but one that extends to the area of social rearchitecture; the making of architecture over the existing social architecture, in this case, contributing to transform a homogenizing reality of segregation and subjugation. Our perspective sees preservation as something natural, not forced, characteristic of a multicultural society, with balance and justice among men and between the subject and the community, and which assumes that the need to belong and to individualize is inherent to all subjects, and that preserving should help keep the participation of all in the character of society, representing the diverse identities and expressions. It is noteworthy, in this process, that the identity of repetition and difference is a fundamental aspect to preserve, and that this action is established in the interdependence of permanence and transformation, within a diverse and complex logical structure of multidirectional kaleidoscopic human relations. For this purpose the concepts of patrimony, historical patrimony, monuments and historic monument are reviewed and analyzed, and the evil file, of accumulation and progress, is addressed, establishing an approximation to the conceptions of New Museology. This work, in addition to the theoretical development, builds itself on the observation and reflection of environments and concrete everyday events, studied and illustrated by experienced examples. Some of these examples already represent a challenge to a model that does not meet the contemporary social demands.
