IT-Outsourcing to China : In what way can ICT help manage challenges?

The purpose of the study was to explore the current IT-outsourcing situation in China, find out what challenges exist and figure out ways of managing these challenges with the help of ICT.To achieve the purpose of the study a case study was performed in Shanghai, China. The case study was built around several interviews with the representatives of three IT-Outsourcing companies that work globally from Shanghai, China. All of the companies that were involved in the process of conducting the study were big established companies that are experts in their respective field. All of the interviewees were either from a management part of the company or selected by the management to represent their companies in the interviews.The study was performed with a qualitative research approach and was divided into a theoretical section where the current IT-Outsourcing situation was displayed and thereby the theoretical challenges were presented. This presented a need for verification on the theoretical elements and also created information gaps that needed to be filled by conducting an empirical study.The empirical study was then built around the gaps that needed to be filled in order for ICT to become an even more efficient enabler for IT-Outsourcing. Thereby four semi-structured interviews were conducted with three different companies. With the help of the theoretical and empirical studies an analytic approach were applied to then answer the research questions that are directly connected to the purpose of the study, making it possible to identify the challenges that needed to be addressed and mapping the current IT-outsourcing situation in China. These challenges then addressed and displayed in six different tables with an explanatory text attached to each table for further validation and clarification on the table content.Based on the findings, the research could then be validated with a theoretical and empirical analysis that gave grounds for the conclusions that part take in answering the research questions that give ground for the purpose of the study. / Program: Systemvetarutbildningen

ITIL i verksamheter / ITIL in organizations

Den genomgripande datoriseringen som härjar i dagens företagsvärld har gjort verksamheter starkt beroende av informationssytem för hantering och lagring av information. Parallellt med denna utvckling har IT-förvaltning kontinuerligt utvecklats till ett område som fått en betyande roll. Idag täcks större delar av IT-förvaltning genom ett nytt begrepp, ITSM (IT Service Managment). Detta är ett nyligen framtaget paraplybegrepp som innefattar en mängd begrepp och ramverk som växt fram, däribland ITIL, PM3 och ISO20000. Även nyckelord som value, relations och service genomsyrar hela området. Detta för att möta den mer moderna innebörd som IT-förvaltning idag har. ITIL är ett ramverk som är till för att förbättra IT-förvaltningen för de verksamheter som väljer att införa det. Dock finns det en del aspekter verksamheter behöver ta hänsyn till när de inför ITIL. Det handlar om finansiella aspekter, kompetens för processer och förståelse och teknik.Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka ITIL för verksamheter som valt att införa det och hur detta påverkat IT-förvaltningen. Tre faktorer kommer att hanteras - utmaningarna som kan uppkomma vid införandet av ramverket och utmaningarna verksamheter har i det dagliga arbetet med ITIL. Studien ska dessutom undersöka fördelarna verksamheter känt av med införandet av ITIL.Studien har haft en hermeneutisk ansats med en kvalitativ karaktär. Empirin som samlats in har byggts upp utifrån semi-strukturerade intervjuer för två verksamheter. I denna fallstudie har det studerats djupare kring hur två verksamheters arbetssätt med IT-förvaltning fungerar, i det avseendet att vi har undersökt hur de arbetar med ITIL. Dessutom har en komparativ design valts för att försöka öka tillförlitligheten och för att få en större förståelse av de sociala fenomen som undersökts. Vidare har en korsanalys gjorts för att upptäcka likheter och skillnader mellan de olika verksamheterna som undersökts.Med denna studie har ett antal slutsatser kunnat dras. Vid införandet av ITIL handlar det oftast om utmaningar som rör acceptanssvårigheter för de anställda som påverkats av några faktorer. Dessa faktorer innefattar vokabulären, dokumentationen, processeförståelsen och arbetsrutinerna ITIL för med sig till verksamheten. I det dagliga arbetet med ITIL ligger utmaningarna i ramverkets komplexitet och det processorienterade arbetssättet. Utmaningarna ligger här även i att få samspel mellan människor, processer och teknik att fungera för att uppnå ett effektivt IT-förvaltningsarbete för IT-tjänsterna. Vi har kommit fram till att ITIL även kan leda till en icke önskvärd byråkratisering av verksamheter som väljer att införa det. Fördelar med införandet av ITIL har visat handla om att verksamheter känt av en ökad och mer omfattande kontroll på anställda och resurser. I denna studie kommer vi att presentera vårt resultat om hur man genomför en god insourcing av ett annat företags IT. Vi kommer också genom detta att först presentera hur vi tänkt nå det tänkta resultatet genom att presentera vissa teorier. Vi kommer också presentera hur vår empiri gått till samt hur vi gått tillväga för att analysera dessa för att tillslut nå vårt resultat. Vårt resultat har resulterat i normativ kunskap vilket menas att vi presenterar resultatet i råd, förslag och riktlinjer till hur man uppnår god insourcad IT-förvaltning. Vi kommer också visa förslag på mål som man uppnår genom att följa dessa riktlinjer för att ännu mer påvisa och stärka vårt resultat.Vi vill också passa på att tacka Anders Hjalmarsson som handlett oss genom denna uppsats och varit en ovärderlig hjälp genom hela processen, tack Anders.

Role of Information Technology in Lean Enterprise Systems

With the fast a growth of the global economy and the competition in the world, all business enterprises are trying to deliver their products at the lowest possible price and at high quality. At the same time businesses should run in profit. This is possible by reducing waste and introducing new technology like information technology (IT). IT provides necessary information for the customers regarding the new products, quality and recent features about the product design. By using databases in the enterprise, recent market trends and customer needs can be known in advance and the product design can be changed and make the customers more satisfaction. IT also plays an important role in the security of information in the enterprise and also security to the customers regarding product delivery and product details. Lean management systems provide the new ideas about the non value and unnecessary activities in the enterprise. Ultimately Lean reduces the wastage and improves the customer satisfaction. Our thesis focuses on advantages of lean-IT in business enterprise and how information technology can be useful in customer service and continuous improvement by utilizing knowledge management.

Esta dissertação objetivou identificar os principais aspectos da Gestão de Processos de TI no setor público. Para isto, realizou-se uma revisão da literatura, apoiada em um estudo bibliométrico sobre as principais ferramentas e modelos relacionados ao tema, tais como o COBIT, ITIL e PMBOK. Com base nesses conceitos, foi desenvolvido um método para levantamento e priorização dos processos mais relevantes de TI em uma organização pública que pode ser adotado e utilizado por qualquer empresa. Concluiu-se que as organizações com os seus serviços, principalmente os de TI, precisam adotar melhores práticas de gestão de processos, de modo que possam alcançar melhores resultados. Recomenda-se, portanto, a utilização do COBIT 5 que apresenta melhores práticas de governança de gestão corporativa de TI reconhecido internacionalmente, e que define os processos de gestão que podem ser implantados, utilizando práticas e modelos de gestão de processos específicos. / Most organizations, public and private, has sought to improve the services offered by IT departments, through the use of methodologies and best practices Management Processes Information Technology, aimed at achieving its strategic objectives. This research aimed to identify the main aspects of IT process management in the public sector. For this, we carried out a literature review, based on a bibliometric study of the key tools and models related to the topic, such as COBIT, ITIL and PMBOK. Based on these principles, it developed a method to survey and prioritization of the most important IT processes in a public organization that can be adopted and used by any company. It was concluded that organizations with their services, mainly IT, processes need to adopt best management practices, so that they can achieve better results. It is recommended, therefore, the use of COBIT 5 that shows better corporate management IT governance practices internationally recognized, and that defines the management processes that can be deployed using practical and specific process management models.

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of cloud computing and its appropriate deployment in small and medium business. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the offer of Google products and to demonstrate measurable benefits of this solution. Introductory part of the thesis summarizes the history of IT and it is looking for the connection between history of IT and the term cloud computing. This term is described in detail with selected cloud computing characteristics. The main part of the thesis deals with analysis of Google services, technologies and platforms, which could be used in enterprise. The matters are viewed not only economically, but also from the technological and security point of view. In practical implementations are demonstrated measurable benefits of deployment to the Google cloud platform. Finally, the thesis provides the summary of platform's advantages and disadvantages with a description of practical advices for small and medium businesses

Proposição de uma sistemática para o controle gerencial dos custos relacionados à Tecnologia da Informação (TI)

Esta dissertação tem como principal objetivo propor uma sistemática de controle gerencial dos custos de Tecnologia da Informação (TI) e, assim, estabelecer uma interface entre o ambiente de TI e de custos. Inicialmente, foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica sobre TI a fim de entender seus mecanismos de gestão, estruturação e como a área realizava o controle gerencial de seus custos. Nesta etapa, identificou-se que o chargeback de TI era a solução existente. Apesar disto, não se encontrou na literatura uma sistemática que apoiasse a sua implementação. Sendo assim, na sequência, partiu-se para o entendimento de custos. Nesta etapa foram abordadas questões relacionadas às classificações de custos bem como, com maior ênfase, o entendimento dos princípios e métodos de custeio. A partir do entendimento dos métodos, e em quais ambientes sua utilização era indicada, do ambiente de TI e da inexistência de um método específico para esta área, foi proposta uma sistemática para o controle gerencial dos custos de TI. A sistemática divide os custos de TI em desenvolvimento, produção e imobilizado. Para cada um destes itens foi proposta uma série de passos de modo a determinar o custo por objeto de custeio. Por fim, apresenta-se um estudo de caso o qual tem por base a implementação realizada em uma instituição financeira. Como principais resultados cita-se o efetivo controle e entendimento das atividades de TI e como estas consomem os recursos, facilidade de comunicação dos custos de TI para as demais áreas da organização, custeio baseado em critérios técnicos e maior segurança no processo de tomada de decisões. / This dissertation aims to propose a systematic to control IT costs, establishing an interface between the IT environment and costs. Initially, a literature review on IT was done, in which issues were addressed regarding the management methods, structure and how they control their costs. The IT chargeback was identified as a solution for such issue. On the other hand, it was not found in the literature a systematic for their implementation. As a consequence, a study in regard of costs was done. In this step were addressed issues related to cost classifications, principles and methods in order to understand in which environments its use is indicated. From the understanding of methods and environments in which their use is indicated, the IT environment and the absence of a specific method for this area has been proposed a systematic to control IT costs. The proposed systematic divides IT costs in development costs, production and assets. A series of steps to determine the cost of each costing object has been proposed for each of these items. Finally, it was done a case study in a financial institution. The main results of this implementation were: effective control and understanding of IT activities and how they consume resources, ease of communication of IT costs to other areas of organization, costing based on technical criteria and increased safety in the decision-making process.

Estudo de síntese de silicato de lantânio tipo apatita pelo método sol-gel seguido de precipitação de Na2SiO3 / Synthesis study of lanthanum silicate apatite type by sol-gel method followed by precipitation from Na2SiO3

Cerâmicas de silicato de lantânio tipo apatita têm sido estudadas devido ao grande interesse tecnológico para aplicação como eletrólito em células a combustível de óxido sólido de temperatura intermediária (IT-SOFC: Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cell). A condutividade iônica dessas cerâmicas em temperaturas intermediárias (600-800°C) é maior do que a da YSZ (Ytria Stabilized Zirconia) utilizada como eletrólito em SOFCs de alta temperatura (800-1000°C). Neste trabalho, silicato de lantânio tipo apatita foi sintetizado pelo método sol-gel seguido de precipitação, a partir de Na2SiO3 como fonte de sílica. No método proposto, estudou-se rotas de síntese em meio ácido e básico para a formação do gel de sílica, seguida de precipitação. A fase cristalina de silicato de lantânio tipo apatita foi obtida pela calcinação de pós sintetizados a 900°C. Esta temperatura é muito inferior às praticadas em outros métodos convencionais de síntese. As análises por difração de raios X (DRX) mostraram silicato de lantânio tipo apatita como fase principal do material sintetizado na rota de síntese em pH ácido. No entanto, uma fase secundária indesejável, La2Si2O7, foi identificada quando o pó cerâmico foi calcinado a 1200°C. Por outro lado, pela rota básica, fase única de silicato de lantânio tipo apatita foi obtida após tratamento térmico dos precursores a 900 e 1200°C. Pastilha cerâmica obtida a partir dos pós obtidos e sinterizados a 1400°C por 4h, apresentaram fase cristalina pura de silicato de lantânio tipo apatita. Microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) foi utilizada para observar a morfologia dos pós e microestrutura das pastilhas sinterizadas. Pós cerâmicos finos com tamanho de partículas submicrométricas e microestrutura típica de apatita foram alcançadas pelo método proposto. / Lanthanum silicate apatite-type ceramics have been studied because of the great technological interest for IT-SOFC applications as electrolyte (Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cell). Ionic conductivity of those ceramics at intermediate temperatures (600-800°C) is higher than that of YSZ (Ytria Stabilized Zirconia) electrolyte used at high-temperatures (800-1000 °C) SOFCs. In this work, lanthanum silicate apatite-type was synthesized by sol-gel method followed by precipitation from Na2SiO3 as a source of silica. In the proposed method, synthesis routes in acid and basic medium to the formation of silica gel, followed by precipitation were studied. Apatite crystalline phase of lanthanum silicate ceramic was obtained by calcining the powders at 900°C. This temperature is much lower than those other conventional methods of synthesis. Analysis by x-ray diffraction (XRD) showed the lanthanum silicate apatite-type phase as the main phase of the synthesized material at the pH acid synthesis route. However, undesirable secondary phase, La2Si2O7, was recognized when the powder was calcined at 1200°C. On the other hand, by the basic route, single apatite-type phase powder was obtained after thermal treatment of the precursors at 900 and 1200°C. Ceramic pellet obtained from those powders sintered at 1400°C for 4h, presented pure apatite crystalline phase of lanthanum silicate. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to observe morphology of powders and microstructure of sintered pellets. Sub micrometric size powders and apatite typical microstructure ceramic were reached by the suggested method.

Napredni distributivni menadžment sistem zasnovan na Cloud infrastrukturi / Cloud Infrastructure-based Advanced Distribution Management System

<p>U ovoj doktorskoj disertaciji ispitana je mogućnost prebacivanja Naprednog Distributivnog Menadžment Sistema (NDMS) zasnovanog na zajedničkoj operaciono tehnološkoj platformi na virtualno Cloud infrastrukturno okruženje. Prvo je odabrano tradicionalno NDMS rešenje zasnovano na fizičkoj računarskoj arhitekturi i identifikovani su funkcionalni blokovi. Zatim su profilirane njihove performanse prema četiri ključna resursa: procesor, operativna memorija, računarska mreža i stalna memorija. Dalje predloženo je virtualno rešenje zasnovano na Cloud infrastrukturi koje je verifikovano na dve zamišljene elektrodistributivne mreže realnih veličina (maloj i velikoj) i u dva testna scenarija (stabilnog stanja i visoke aktivnosti). Na kraju predstavljeni su rezultati testiranja koji pokazaju da se NDMS može prebaciti u virtualno Cloud okruženje bez negativnog uticaja na funkcionalne i nefunkcionalne zahteve NDMS rešenja.</p> / <p>This dissertation inspects the possibility of transferring the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) based on a common operating technology platform to the virtual Cloud Infrastructure Environment. First, a traditional ADMS solution based on physical computing architecture was chosen and functional blocks were identified. Furthermore, their performances were profiled to four key resources: processor, operating memory, computer network, and storage. Then, virtual cloud-based solution was proposed based on Cloud infrastructure which is verified on two imaginary power distribution networks of real size (small and large) and in two test scenarios (steady state and high activity). Finally, the test results show that ADMS can be transferred to a virtual Cloud environment without adversely affecting the functional and non-functional requirements of the ADMS solution.</p>
