Job Satisfaction in the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency

Approximately every 20 years, a new generation is born and eventually dominates the workforce; although changes occur with each new generation, the importance of job satisfaction remains constant. Research within the U.S. Intelligence Community is lacking with regard to changing trends of job satisfaction levels. The purpose of this study was to explore job satisfaction levels between Generation X and Generation Y workforce employees at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). The central research question addressed how job satisfaction differed by generational differences in the workforce. A quantitative method was used to assess survey data. A structural equation modeling technique was used to simultaneously test the plausibility of variable relationships to include the following: independent variables—compensation, environment, advancement, performance, training, supervision, motivation, demographics, leadership; and the dependent variable, job satisfaction. Regarding theoretical construct, the McGregor theories X and Y was used to address 2 fundamental approaches that affected job satisfaction levels exclusive to Generation X and Y. Full time NGA employees from the Analysis and Production Directorate completed a survey to assess whether generational differences affected employees’ job satisfaction. Key findings indicated that Generation X employees associated job satisfaction as a measure of respect for their positions within NGA and Generation Y employees viewed job satisfaction as a measure of advancement and performance. The implications for positive social change include combating generational policy biases in the U.S.

Försvarsunderrättelsetjänsternas anpassning och förändring

Underrättelsetjänsten har alltid haft som sin  viktigaste uppgift att agera som varningsklocka för hot mot landet för vilket den existerar. Under det kalla kriget var det största hotet mot Sverige en invasion och ett tredje världskrig. I och med murens fall och slutet på det kalla kriget ändrades hoten snabbt. Idag så finns inte längre någon tydlig hotbild mot Sverige men den ökade globaliseringen och det informationsberoende samhället skapar nya hot mot oss. En regional konflikt kan ha globala konsekvenser, och där med även beröra Sverige. I arbetet ställer sig författaren frågan hur den svenska underrättelsetjänsten har förändrats med den förändrade hotbilden och om underrättelsetjänsten är anpassad till de nya krav som ställs på den. Organisationens  struktur är i fokus men lag och förordningar som styr verksamheten tas också upp. Analysen sker genom att först problematisera organisationen på en underrättelsetjänst(generell) för att sedan analysera den svenska underrättelseorganisationen med dessa frågeställningar. Inledningsvis analyseras det hur den var organiserad 1976, därefter den organisatoriska förändring som gjordes mellan 1976 och 2011, för att slutligen analysera år 2012:s organisation och dra slutsatser om denna utvecklig och dagens organisation. De slutsatser som drogs var att den svenska underrättelsetjänsten försöker vara anpassad efter dagens behov men att arv ifrån tidigare organisationen skapar en viss ostruktur och att vissa enheters placering och tillhörighet är svår att motivera. / The main objective for the Intelligence community has always been to work as a safety net for the nation under which it exist.  The definition of threat has changed in recent times. During the Cold War the biggest threats against Sweden was a Third World War and an invasion of the nation. Due to the fall of the Berlin wall and the end of the Cold War the main threats have changed. Today there is no conceivable threat against Sweden but the continuously increasing globalization and information dependent society creates new threats against it and a regional conflict could affect Swedish society The question that this study  raises is if Swedish intelligence has changed due to the change in threat and whether it has adapted to new demands places upon it. The organization structure is in focus but laws and regulations must also be taken into account. In order to conduct the analysis, the problem of organizing an intelligence organization at a general level must be addressed first. The Swedish intelligence community will be analysed based on previous problems starting with how the organisation was in 1976, followed by the changes in the organisation between 1976 and 2011 and finally with how the organisation stands today. Thereafter conclusions will be drawn from the analysis. In conclusion the Swedish intelligence community is trying to adapt to todays need but the legacy from past intelligence organizations creates an unstructured appearance and that the placement of some sections and units is hard to motivate.

Intelligence services are vital security systém elements of each democratic state. Access to the important intels without any lags is basic for state to survive. No state, nor the democratic nor the totalitarian can survive withou intelligence. On the other hand, strong based and rooted oversight is nature in democratic states. Basic purpose of this work is in examination of the situation in the Czech republic, where intelligence systém reform should be prepared as soon as possible. Especially in the light of missuse of the military intelligence by prime minister's mistress in 2013. In advance, the limits of current oversight methods and systém should be find. Deborah Stone's, proffesor of Dartmouth university, in the Czech republic rare theory called Policy Paradox is used as main for this work. It was choosen because it brings new view on the current intelligence system setup and its oversight. This analytical model see creation of public policy as continuous clash of personal and public interests. In advanced it is in opposition to the traditional view of policy from the market perspective and it provide new view as ancient polis where you have to beer the public interest on your mind. Tento článek tvrdí, že se Izrael poučil ze svých chyb v minulosti "skutečně vzal toto budící volání" a učinil ze své inteligence nejsilnější a nejspolehlivější zbraň ve svém arzenálu v národní bezpečnosti. Prozkoumá a důležité role, které musí každé odvětví zpravodajství přinést ke stolu blémy mají jednotlivé pobočky a jak mohou zabránit problémům? Government and the Intelligence Community: A Case Study on Russia and the United States Government's Effect on Intelligence Systems

The United States and Russia are two major superpowers with governments that are run in different manners. Central to a government's and country's defense is their intelligence systems. The intelligence systems of these two countries are run as part of the government and are integral to its functioning. The purpose of this thesis is to discuss how both the governments and intelligence systems are structured and do they coincide with their respective systems. Using a case study on the United States and Russia, their intelligence systems and governments a comparison was drawn. While looking at the history of both governments and communities and what they are like in the present day it was determined that there exist similarities in structures. As the countries grew and modernized so did their intelligence community. The history of how the intelligence community developed in their respective country and interacted with citizens both foreign and domestic showed striking similarities to the governments own workings. Another important find was the rules and restrictions that were involved in the government's evolution was also paralleled in the intelligence communities evolution. In the United States there are regulations against intruding into the lives and properties of citizens and the intelligence community reflects this in executive order 12333 that states intelligence communities cannot collect information on citizens unless it is imperative to the safety and security of the country.
