Understanding Reasons Behind the Lack of Adoption of Units of Measure (UoM) Libraries

Salah, Omar-Alfred January 2019 (has links)
The concepts of units and units of measurement (UoM) are used in scientific and mathematicalapplications to encode variables and their types with units. There are many UoMlibraries, as identified by previous research, that exist that can handle and prevent unit errorsand failures that can arise if units are not handled properly, otherwise, the consequences ofnot using UoM libraries may have possibly disastrous implications. Previous research hascategorised thousands of UoM libraries, an indication that the ’wheel is being reinvented’time and time again instead of building on what was already done, indicating that thereexists a lack of adoption of these UoM libraries. It is therefore important to understand thescale of the lack of adoption and why that is the case. An exploratory-DSR style researchwas employed and developers and scientists were surveyed and interviewed to inquire whythis is the case, with results ranging from unawareness of these UoM libraries, to specificperformance concerns and even tradition and sticking to what already works. Towards theend, the thesis suggests possible solutions to relieving the lack of adoption of these UoMlibraries as recommendation for further UoM solutions, with recommendations rangingfrom including UoM libraries in standard libraries of programming languages to reducingthe complexity and verbosity of UoM solutions.

To identify the prevalence of factors associated with the lack of adherence to psychopharmacs among Psychosocial Care Units users in Pelotas with mood disorders and schizophrenia. Methods. Cross-sectional study gathered by a prospective cohort with 563 users of PCU in Pelotas, among which 201 had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and 362 with mood disorders. Home interviews were accomplished and two questionnaires were applied, one to obtain demographic, socioeconomic and patient s disorder-related information, and another one on the use of medication and Morisky test to verify the lack of adherence. Results. The prevalence of the lack of adherence was 32%, with no significant difference according to gender, per capita income, period of the disorder, diagnostics and kind of medication. Younger individuals, with higher education, with a partner, with less frequency to PCU and that showed adverse effects were less adhering to treatment. In the stratified analysis, only adverse effects remained associated with the lack of adherence. Conclusion. The lack of adherence in individuals with mental disorders linked to PCU is mainly related to adverse effects and health policies should be dedicated to facing this issue, since it is known that the adherence to treatment helps avoid relapse and the necessity of hospitalization, in order to optimize public resources / Objetivo.

It presents the care in a historical-critical perspective, highlighting its meaning to the ones who take care, as an unrecognized job that demands attention, zeal and skills in the care of another person. It problematizes the changes provoked by the home care and presents the survey realized in the Basic Health Units of Schools in the city of Pelotas, which used as main instrument the realization of open interviews. Ten family caregivers of adult patients in care for more than 30 days and of relatives deceased until three months before were interviewed. The analysis traces a profile of the caregivers showing that the repercussions produced in their lives create an illness worsened by the lack of assistance.

Strumpstickmaskinen och dess roll på den svenska marknaden / Sock knitting machine and its role on the Swedish market

Macfie, Sarah, Pettersson, Lena January 2012 (has links)
There aren’t many textile companies that have the opportunity to have their production in a country such as Sweden because of the profits. It implies a lower cost for a company to produce in low-wage countries like Europe and Asia, although it depletes our natural resources and environment to transport the products back and forth.Because of the increased wages in China and the exchange rate of the euro as increased dramatically in Europe, Sweden has now reached a stage where it becomes economically viable to move back some of the production to Sweden. There is an increasing trend of organic and locally produced products, increasing the demand on products produced in Sweden. The project aims to provide individuals and companies with support for them to explore their opportunities to produce socks on the Swedish market. The development of the production of socks is constant and the companies are improving their installed machines and educate their employer which leads to a development on the market. If it's profitable to produce socks in Sweden depends on the company, how broad collections they have, how big their production are and what machines they are using.Compared to the number of producing sock companies on the Swedish market there is only a few repair- and service technicians for the machines. Most of the companies aren’t only involved on the Swedish market, they have client across the Scandinavian. To work on several markets makes the companies less available to the companies in Sweden. There’s a current demand of more technicians companies for the sock producing companies on the Swedish market. The future of sock knitting on the Swedish market is bright. The need of socks is constant and will always be with the costumers as long as humans have the need of protecting their feet against the cold and sores. The trend is moving towards organic and locally produced products, which not only benefits the already established companies on the Swedish market but also opens opportunities for new companies to establish themselves. / Program: Textil produktutveckling med entreprenörs- och affärsinriktning

O fenômeno da proletarização das profissões liberais e a subordinação do contrato de trabalho / The proletarianization of the phenomenon of the professions and the subordination of the employment contract

Murilo Oliveira Souza 28 August 2015 (has links)
The changes in the relations of service, resulting from the sophistication of post-industrial society, are notorious. The workers of today are still men and women living selling his labor power, however, beyond the labor worker there is the emergence of a new class of workers: the self-employed. With this subordination has become an important differentiating element of labor relations. The vision of paid employment, one of the employment relationship of elements, was built from a traditional model worker. Soon, to be examined during this study is the criterion of this subordination in the Consolidation of Labor Laws may still be able to represent all labor relations subordinate. This is because is developing a practice of service in which the liberal professional provides its service with restrictions on their autonomy, called this work of self-subordinate, which would denote the subordination of knowledge worker, but that is not realized due the formal act that covers this relationship. This practice has negative consequences, as the lack of labor and social security rights to self-subordinate workers, and social confusion they face. Such aspects will be widely discussed during this study, which used as a method of approach deductive-inductive, and also the method of argumentative-argumentative literature procedure. At the end of this work we came to the conclusion that the classical concept of subordination must be reconfigured to meet a new reality of work, the autonomic-subordinate worker.

Contribution à l'étude des facteurs de non-respect du droit international humanitaire / Contribution to the study of the factors of failure to respect international humanitarian law

Bui, Alexandra 17 December 2016 (has links)
Moreover, almost all of the rules that form international humanitarian law are part of international customary law which is compulsory for all, except for persistent objector. International jurisdictions, International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court, as well as doctrine agree that the rules of the law of armed conflict should be considered of superior value compared to ordinary norms. They have been qualified as obligations erga omnes, intransgressible principles of international law and even as jus cogens or imperative law. One cannot think of a better legal acknowledgment. Furthermore, international humanitarian law, at least its essential principles, appears to be one of the fundamental elements of an international moral in a globalized world. With the States and the ICRC, civil society has seized the question of its respect and even its development and many NGO work for it. We couldn’t contemplate a more favorable situation to ensure its respect that this unanimous legal and social recognition. However, the international humanitarian law is infringed every passing second. The aim of this thesis is to try to study the factors which explain the recurrence of infringements, be them legal, anthropological or sociological

The socio-economic characteristics and Implications of youth unemployment in Galeshewe Township in the Kimberley area (Northern Cape Province)

Ndhlovu, Dineo January 2010 (has links)

The objective of this study was to investigate some socio-demographic aspects and implications of youth unemployment in Galeshewe Township. The study makes use of descriptive statistics to analyze and interpret data collected from a random survey of 947 young persons aged between 18 and 35 years old. An individual questionnaire was administered during the interviews. The results indicate that most unemployed youths are between the ages of twenty-five and twenty-nine years and the majority of them are females. About 58.5% of the unemployed youths have completed secondary education, with 8.9% of them having obtained a tertiary diploma or degree. The majority of the youth do not have previous work experience and this handicaps their ability to secure employment. Most of these young people originate from areas outside Galeshewe. The views collected from the unemployed youth point to the need for government to ensure that tertiary education is accessible in the city in order to improve the level of education of the youth. The government also needs to provide more targeted job creation schemes, especially to those who did well at matriculation level, and to also empower the youth through other skills acquisitions as well as training and programmes that are available.

Pemsel, Maria January 2012 (has links)
The intention of my studies is to explore the field of musical learning from the pupil's point of view. This master thesis is the second of two Grounded Theory studies based on interviews. In study no1 Learning of music from the pupils' point of view (Pemsel, 2009) I asked ten pupils, soon to be graduates, to express their own experience of musical learning. The selection of informants was made after reading a questionnaire an- swered by a group of 60 pupils attending different programs at a typical Swedish upper secondary school. The ten selected informants had all chosen several music courses their latest years in school. The questionnaire had two purposes; one was to construct musical profiles of the pupils, the other was to select informants for the interviews. The pupils were asked how much, and what kind of music educa- tion they had experienced. They were also asked to describe good and bad memo- ries of music education. The selected informants had all chosen to attend several music courses in their final years at school. They had in the questionnaire shown that they could express themselves in terms of learning music, and also that they had both positive and negative memories of musical learning environments. The most interesting findings in the first study were the personal navigation and the different choices the pupils made during their way towards musical learning. They learned music in a way that could be compared to the balls movements in a "flipper game", changing directions aiming to find knew musical knowledge. This was all illustrated in The Map of Musical Learning. In study no 2 Music and learning, young adults perspective of music education, I interviewed five post pupils 19-25 years old. They had as pupils chosen to learn something else other than music in upper secondary school. To select informants the so-called "snowball method" was used. A web questionnaire was made in purpose to profile the informants. "The Map of Musical Learning" was used to create an equal dialogue in the interviews. During the interview the Informants were asked to construct their own maps, and explain what that picture symbolised in their lives. In study no 2 I've been looking for answers on the following ques- tions; –What are pupils’ views on music and learning, and on what grounds do students select other courses over music? The results showed that not choosing music could be an active choice toward other interests. The choice not to continue taking music lessons was due to different levels (depending on informant) of neg- ative experiences. Some informants had good experiences of expressing them- selves in other art forms, but not in music. Others didn’t need music teachers; they were experienced and could learn on their own. From pupil's point of view music education could be improved, but the beginner and the experienced music pupil expressed different needs of teaching methods. They all felt that they were not surveyed how they wanted to learn music.
