It's hard to be involved in something you don't understand : Nurses' experiences of patient involvement in psychiatric outpatient careLeijon, Alexander, Lindblom, Jeanette January 2024 (has links)
Psychiatric outpatient care is an important component of Swedish psychiatric care, and the need for such activities increases every year. The specialist nurse's competence and patient participation are a success factor for good psychiatric care, while this participation often comes with challenges. Non-participation risks leading to poor care. The purpose of this study was to investigate nurses' experiences of patient participation in Swedish psychiatric outpatient care. The experience of patient participation is explored through qualitative interviews with seven nurses, who work in outpatient psychiatric care in the Västra Götaland region. The study has its methodological point of departure in reflective life-world research and the interviews were analyzed using inductive content analysis. The results were summarized into three main categories, promote the Patient´s Participation, to Create Space for the Patient's Voice and The Nurse's Role in the Patient's Care Journey, which summarized the main lines of the interviews. The results indicate that, similar to previous research, patient participation is central to increased quality of care, but also how this is limited by a lack of resources. The care relationship appears as a key factor in patient participation, but a lack of resources prevents the nurse from building and maintaining these. The study contributes insights regarding resource allocation and organizational changes, which can strengthen patient participation, increase care quality and reduce care suffering. By illustrating the nurses' voices, this study highlights the need for changes that enable increased patient engagement and increased patient participation in psychiatric outpatient care. The study highlights the need to address resource limitations and implementation of individually adapted participation through, for example, technical aids. It is suggested that further research focus on precisely this. The study urges specialist nurses in psychiatry to prioritize the building of strong, trusting relationships with their patients in order to promote patient participation and to use their expertise to tailor this to the individual.

"Disabled identities": pastoral work with people who are mobility impairedJacobs, Alvean Illinois 30 November 2004 (has links)
This thesis is about pastoral work with people who live with mobility impairment. The research address two main questions, namely "What are the implications of acquired mobility impairment for personal identity and collective identity?" and "How can we in Christian faith communities, through pastoral work, facilitate a sense of belonging and strengthen personal identity and collective identity for people who are mobility disadvantaged?"
This thesis therefore addresses the problem of identity. Thus, a theoretical analysis from literature sources is undertaken to explore theories about narrative identity in relation to personal identity and the importance of the metaphor "belonging" to bridge the gap of personal identity to collective identity. Consequently, religious identity is discussed in relation to the notion of multiple identities and the importance of collective identity to shaping personal identity.
The research questions are answered through a theoretical exploration of approaches to disability and qualitative, narrative empirical research is undertaken. A few people who are quadriplegic, a family member and an occupational therapist are interviewed and the recounting of their "stories" facilitated. The empirical research results in highlighting that the research participants' "stories" discloses a link between bodily restrictions and social restrictions to mobility. This combination works together to make social interaction very difficult and clearly influenced the transition from pre-quadriplegia to post-quadriplegia. Analysing the "stories" told by the research participants allows for critical reflection on a preferred pastoral work praxis to people living with mobility impairment.
Narrative identity is linked with a theology of embrace and metaphors of "covenant" and "belonging" which expresses that faith communities should imitate the embracing love and compassion of the Triune God who through the act of suffering included all humankind. It provides the foundation for a preferred pastoral work praxis of "embrace" which can be practised holistically and actively through integration with the other practices of faith communities to facilitate a sense of belonging to a collective identity. / Practical Theology / D. The impact of grade 10 learners' behaviour on their academic performance in mathematicsHagoramagara, Franco 10 1900 (has links)
The aim of this study was to identify types of behaviour manifested by learners during mathematics instruction, and the impact that this behaviour might have on the mathematics performance of learners. The study was conducted in Far East cluster of Johannesburg East District, in the province of Gauteng, South Africa. At the time of the study the Far East cluster of Johannesburg East District consisted of a population of seven public high schools, of which two schools were randomly sampled to participate in the study.
Participants consisted of (n=10) Grade 10 mathematics learners, 2 mathematics teachers and 2 heads of mathematics departments (HODs). Data from learners were collected using a set of their assessment scores accumulated over a period of six months, that is, from January 2014 to June 2014 (Section 1.3.3). Also, semi-structured interviews were carried out with learners to determine types of classroom behaviour they perceived to influence their mathematical performance. The aim of documenting learners‟ assessment scores (document analysis) was to determine their average performance in Grade 10 mathematics over a stipulated period. Teachers and HODs completed questionnaires to identify types of classroom behaviour that learners manifested during mathematics instruction.
The study followed a qualitative approach with phenomenology research design (Section 3.2). The study identified several types of classroom behaviour that characterized mathematics instruction in both schools, such as making noise and not doing classwork and homework activities. In addition, the study established that forms of behavioural patterns that are manifested by learners during a mathematics instruction influenced their performance in the subject. Huitt‟s (1997) model was used to conceptualize and interpret the results. / Mathematics Education / M. Ed. (Mathematics Education)

Exploring the dynamics of school violence in KwaDabeka, KwaZulu-NatalMsezane, Gideon 07 1900 (has links)
This study focused on the schools of KwaDabeka Township in KwaZulu-Natal. This project explored the underlying reasons for and types of violence, as well as initiatives for violence prevention. This is a qualitative study; therefore it is located within the interpretive paradigm. A case study strategy was employed in which qualitative methods such as interviews, observations, document reviews, and journals were used to collect data. The findings suggest that besides ill-discipline and uncooperativeness by learners, criminals and thugs from outside schools pose a threat to the stability of schools. The findings also suggest that girls and young boys are victims of violence in schools. The research findings suggest that violence production in schools is shaped by socio-economic status of community where the school is in, as well as gender and masculinity. / Educational Leadership and Management / M. A comparative study of models of theological training for pastors and evangelists in Kibera informal settlementWanzala, Patience Santa 07 1900 (has links)
Nairobi is one of the fastest growing cities in Africa with an average of five hundred people coming to the city on a daily basis. More than seventy percent of these people end up living in the informal settlements. An appropriate model of theological training for church leaders needs to be developed, so as to equip them to work with congregations and communities within the informal settlements, to address the needs and potential of people living in the context of Kibera informal settlements and to bring about spiritual and material transformation in their midst. A qualitative and comparative study was undertaken and data was collected through semistructured interviews and focus group discussions. After interpreting the data, the researcher found out: The problems and needs of the community and challenges of church ministers in the informal settlements are enormous. It includes unemployment, poor housing and
sanitation, and a general lack of resources to meet basic needs; as well as negative ethnicity, inadequate ministers‟ stipends and the dependence of church members on ministers.
The existing models of theological education have not effectively equipped church ministers to face these challenges in informal settlement ministry. The research study end by proposing a model that will enable church ministers‟ witness to the incarnation of Christ among marginalized people in the informal settlement of Kibera. This model of theological training will be informed by African, Freirian and Western approaches to education. It will aim to form, inform and transform the pastoral work of ministers in informal settlement contexts. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M.A. (Theology in Missiology: Specialization in Urban Ministry)

Tagatose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase from Streptococcus pyogenes is a class I aldolase that shows a lack of stereospecificity that is rare in enzymes in general, and in aldolases in particular. This aldolase catalyzes the reversible cleavage of tagatose-1,6-bisphosphate (TBP), fructose-1,6-bisphosphate (FBP), sorbose-1,6-bisphosphate and psicose-1,6-bisphosphate, four stereoisomers, in dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P). A class I aldolase, the aldolase TBP S. pyogenes shares 14 % identity with the model enzyme of this family, mammalian FBP aldolase. Although the catalytic mechanism of the class I FBP aldolase has been examined in detail and it is appropriate to infer information as to the class I TBP aldolase, the singular lack of specificity of the latter enzyme both in the direction of cleavage and condensation is still not elucidated. To better comprehend the characteristics of the enzymatic mechanism, a structural study of the TBP aldolase of S. pyogenes, an extremely versatile human pathogen, has been undertaken. It has allowed the resolution of high resolution structures of the native and mutated enzyme in complex with subtrates and competitive inhibitors. These same structures allowed us to gain information as to the active site of the enzyme in general and the catalytic residues in particular. TBP aldolase native and mutated soaked in a saturated solution of FBP or TBP also trapped an iminium intermediate covalenty bound to Lys205, the Schiff base-forming lysine. The determination of the pH profiles of the native and mutated enzyme, carried out to assess the influence of pH on FBP and TBP cleavage and identify the residue(s) involved, in conjunction with the structural data provided by crystallography, identified unequivocally Glu163, corresponding to Glu187 in FBP aldolase, as the residue responsible for substrate cleavage. The substantially different binding mode of the ligands, according to the stereochemistry of their C3 and C4 carbons, indeed allows Glu163 to abstract the proton in C3-OH and thus initiate C3-C4 bond cleavage. The study of the inverse mechanism, the condensation one, using for instance the crystallographic structure of native TBP aldolase in complex with DHAP and G3P, its three carbons substrates, has led us to believe that a possible isomerism of the G3P substrate was the reason for the synthesis of both C4 isomers by this enzyme. This result, as well as the discovery of a possible cis-trans isomerism around the C2-C3 bond of the Schiff base formed with DHAP, identified previously, almost completely elucidated the features of this enzyme`s mechanism. In addition, these structures have highlighted three highly mobile regions of the protein, which may be related to the role of its isozyme in the regulation of gene expression and virulence in S. pyogenes.
Lastly, the resolution of the structure of the FBP aldolase mutant Lys229 → Met in complex with the cyclic form of FBP, as well as crystallographic studies of the corresponding mutant in TBP aldolase, Lys205→Met and ITC experiments, allowed the identification of two particular residues, Ala31 and Asp33 in FBP aldolase, as responsible for this enzyme discrimination against 3(R) 4(S) substrates, by steric hindrance of the cyclic substrates.
X-ray crystallography, enzyme kinetics and isothermal calorimetry thus enabled advances in the elucidation of the mechanism and structural properties of this enzyme with singular characteristics.

Vakarų mąstymo kritika: F. Rosenzweigas ir M. Heideggeris / A Critique of West Thought : M. Heidegger and Fr. RosenzweigGajauskas, Auridas 04 March 2009 (has links)
Magistrinio darbo problematikos formulavimas vadovaujasi prielaida, jog dalis moderniosios filosofijos projektų formavosi kaip reakcija į Vakarų Europos mąstymo tradiciją, kurios formuojantį pagrindą sudarė filosofija. Dėl šios priežasties neatsiejamu šių projektų egzistavimo požymiu laikytina nuosekli filosofijos istorijos kritika, tuo pačiu pateikianti alternatyvius filosofijos supratimo orientyrus. Tokiu radikaliu filosofijos sąjūdžiu, XX a. laikomas egzistencializmas. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The formulation of theme in this paper is followed the assumption that a part of projects of modern philosophy were generated as a reaction to the tradition of Western Europe thinking, which was influenced by philosophy. That is the reason why coherent criticism of history of philosophy, in the same time giving the perception guides of philosophy, is considered as a concurrent attribute of that project existence. Existentialism of the 20th century is considered as such radical movement of philosophy. Two philosophical figures were chosen from this general context: Rosenzweig and Heidegger. Both thinkers made critical reflections on history of philosophy and both give the alternative projects of thinking. The fundamental reasking of „prime thought assumptions” is considered as an important aspect of main criticism of Western tradition and the formulation of new thinking. After this performed reasking and disassociation from “metaphysics of thought”, Rosenzweig creates new approaches to the faith theme. Using the prophenomenon perception of Johan Wolfgang Geothe and his teachers, Herman Cohen’s ideas about diferencial mathematics theory, he presents description of three prophenomenon (metaphysical God, metalogical world and metaethical man). The comparison of consequence’s structure of metaethical man with prime assumptions of “new thought” (this definition Rosenzweig attributes to his own philosophy) leads to description of dialogical (Zwiesprache) revelational (Offenbarung)... / The privatization of a company is a disruptive shift that generally coincides with the end of a monopoly position and the subsequent entry into the competitive game. The challenges that it raises are so arduous that they tend to lead the leadership to execute massive corporate changes. Yet, the literature shows that many of them fail. In fact, those plans envisage abrupt and severe changes that tend to push the privatized company into the acceleration trap: a type of organizational burnout where the exhaustion and the resignation of the workforce affect dramatically the performance of the company. The thesis has therefore focused on studying the link between a privatization process and the risk of falling into the acceleration trap. An initial investigation into the corporate change literature has permitted to design a preliminary theoretical framework, which has suggested the existence of two moderators of the relationship between privatization and acceleration trap: a cultural clash and a weak transformational leadership climate. Then, a single case study - based on a European telecommunication company and driven through a non-purely inductive approach – has confirmed but also deepened the understanding of the action of those two moderators. Regarding the cultural clash moderator, the data analysis of the company’s case study shows the importance played by not only a corporate identity conflict but also by a management identity clash. With regard to the weak transformational leadership climate moderator, the data analysis highlights the role of lack of trust in the new management but also of job sense, particularly through a loss of proudness. Finally, it also derives from the data analysis that the non-acceptance of the new incentive system also significantly affects the relationship between privatization and acceleration trap by contributing to both a cultural clash and a weak transformational leadership climate.
