Constrained linear and non-linear adaptive equalization techniques for MIMO-CDMA systems

Mahmood, Khalid January 2013 (has links)
Researchers have shown that by combining multiple input multiple output (MIMO) techniques with CDMA then higher gains in capacity, reliability and data transmission speed can be attained. But a major drawback of MIMO-CDMA systems is multiple access interference (MAI) which can reduce the capacity and increase the bit error rate (BER), so statistical analysis of MAI becomes a very important factor in the performance analysis of these systems. In this thesis, a detailed analysis of MAI is performed for binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) signals with random signature sequence in Raleigh fading environment and closed from expressions for the probability density function of MAI and MAI with noise are derived. Further, probability of error is derived for the maximum Likelihood receiver. These derivations are verified through simulations and are found to reinforce the theoretical results. Since the performance of MIMO suffers significantly from MAI and inter-symbol interference (ISI), equalization is needed to mitigate these effects. It is well known from the theory of constrained optimization that the learning speed of any adaptive filtering algorithm can be increased by adding a constraint to it, as in the case of the normalized least mean squared (NLMS) algorithm. Thus, in this work both linear and non-linear decision feedback (DFE) equalizers for MIMO systems with least mean square (LMS) based constrained stochastic gradient algorithm have been designed. More specifically, an LMS algorithm has been developed , which was equipped with the knowledge of number of users, spreading sequence (SS) length, additive noise variance as well as MAI with noise (new constraint) and is named MIMO-CDMA MAI with noise constrained (MNCLMS) algorithm. Convergence and tracking analysis of the proposed algorithm are carried out in the scenario of interference and noise limited systems, and simulation results are presented to compare the performance of MIMO-CDMA MNCLMS algorithm with other adaptive algorithms.

Die dialektische Lebenskunst von Guy Debord, Verworfener & Kulturschatz

Reichmann, Mark 30 March 2021 (has links)
In its character the study Guy Debords Art of Living, Accursed Poet & Cultural Treasury is an interdisciplinary examination of this French radical’s strange and obscure ways. His coherent achievement may be judged as an approach to regain a lost passion of existence in order to revolutionize everyday life. Debord found pleasure and pride in his lifelong ambition to demolish the so-called “Socitey of the Spectacle”, which he analyzed in his infamous book by the same title, first published in 1967. Often quoted since, rarely described as the invention and event it was. Debord defended himself againt categorization. But he agreed on being titulated a filmmaker and enraged person in the tradition of a perverted French Revolution. Following a theory-design, paying references to Gerald Raunig and Bazon Brock, his provocative approach is discussed in nine chapters (I-IX). Baring in mind that – according to Brock – a total work is a postulate of its own realization. The script follows the novel-like progress of a co-founder and lustful destroyer of two avantgarde-troups. All of the group activities are gravitating around what happened in Paris at the heyday of May 68.

"Jag är ju allt, egentligen." : En kritisk studie av könstillhörighetens relevans för framställningen av Mai Zetterling som auteur / “I’m everything, really.” : A critical study of the relevance of gender specificity in dealings with Mai Zetterling as an auteur

Tomani, Ebba January 2015 (has links)
This essay deals with the idea of women as the ”the other sex” within the field of authorship, and aims to bring to together feminist, film and auteur theory with analysis of historic documentations of reception as well as context for academic treatments of Mai Zetterling as an auteur/director. This, in attempt to, through intertwined discussion, catch a glimpse of better understanding how gender specificity may have influenced and continue to influnce perceptions of auteurs of female gender and their works, yet keeping focus on the case of Mai Zetterling and hers in specific.

Boquen, 1965-1976 : entre utopie et révolution dans le catholicisme français / Boquen, 1965-1976 : between utopia and revolution in French Catholicism

Lebel, Béatrice 17 December 2014 (has links)
Boquen, located in “ Côtes d’Armor”, is in 1965 a Cistercian abbey of the common observance. In 1976, the Little Sisters of Bethleem settle there with the precise purpose of re-establishing monastic life after the agitated decade that has just come to an end at Boquen. For the abbey had indeed been turned into a prominent place of the catholic protest in France, if not its very symbol. This study proposes an analysis, in a chronological mode, of the elements that have contributed to the transforming of this small abbey into a sounding board for the expectations of thousands of Christians. It thus brings to light the importance played by the socio-religious context of the sixties and seventies upon the evolution of Boquen, and also the major role played by Bernard Besret, the very charismatic Prior of Boquen and later leader of the “Communion”. He initiated an original community project, the Communion of Boquen, which combined monasticism, ecumenism and spirit of the sixties. On August 20th 1969 Bernard Besret gives a resounding conference which brings about his dismissal. From that day, that sanction attracts to the abbey all the christian anti-establishment wing, ranging from left to far left. By the autumn of 1970 Boquen has taken the leadership of the Christians in spiritual quest. The next two years confirm its success. But what is Boquen? In 1973, it starts declining. Things get worse with Bernard Besret’s departure in October 1974. By the autumn of 1976, that utopic experiment within the walls of Boquen comes to an end with the expulsion of the Communion and of the community of residents who had settled there.

Simulation of a CDMA system based on optical orthogonal codes / Simulering av ett CDMA system baserat på optiska ortogonala koder

Karlsson, Andreas January 2004 (has links)
<p>To take advantage of the high speed in an optic fiber, one of the basic concept in fiber optic communication is to allow several users to simultaneously transmit data over the channel. One technique that provides multiple access is it fiber optic-code division multiple access (FO-CDMA). In FO-CDMA each user is assigned one or more signature sequences called codewords, which are subsets of a type of optical orthogonal code (OOC). The channel input/output consists of the superposition of several users codewords and at the receiver end an optical correlator extracts the information. </p><p>In the parallel code constructions, presented in this report, each user j is assigned a subset Cj from a code C. The subsets are disjoint and their union is the whole set C. A new way to map the information bits is to insert up to L zeros before each codeword from Cj and let this represent information aswell. This gives high rates for active users but an investigation is needed to ensure that this does not compromise the systems wanted property of sending information with a small probability of errors for all users. Therefore a simulation environment has been implemented in Matlab. </p><p>The result from these simulations shows that BER for the L parallel codes is acceptable and not much higher than for the traditional constructions. Because of the higher rate these construction should be preferred but an analysis if a hardware implementation is possible.</p>

The Effects of Financial Cooperation in East Asia on the Financial Development of Taiwan

Lee, Wen-Hua 29 July 2012 (has links)
With the development of economic globalization, the threat of international financial crisis is rising. In order to address the challenge of financial crisis, the regional financial cooperation is becoming important mechanism for political elite in East Asia. Although Taiwan has important status of international economics and trade in East Asia and close economic and trade relations with China, but it is still difficult for Taiwan to join East Asia financial cooperation due to Cross-Strait political factor. This thesis analyses the political consensus of political elite in East Asia through the perspective of ¡§Neo-functionalism¡¨ on the impact of two stages of East Asia financial cooperation after international financial crisis in 1997 and 2008, and on the difficulty for Taiwan to take part in regional financial cooperation of ASEAN+3 with China¡¦s increasing political and economic influence in East Asia. Therefore this thesis analyses above issues for providing advices to Taiwan government regarding policymaking on participation in East Asia financial cooperation.

Changing land use and children's health in Mae Chaem, northern Thailand

Candler, Craig Thomas 05 1900 (has links)
Based on oral histories of agriculture and health in the Mae Chaem valley, northern Thailand, this work documents changing child health and medical practice since the 1950's and explores possible connections with increasing pesticide use. The research shows how local knowledge can help us understand relationships between changing technology, ecology, and human health. Parents and farmers in the Mae Chaem valley of Chiang Mai province, Northern Thailand, live at the intersection of multiple local and global streams of land use and child health biotechnology. Based on systematically collected autobiographical oral histories from parents and farmers, as well as interviews and participant observation with land use and child health experts the study considers the relationships between child health and land use change, and particularly the rise of pesticide intensive cash cropping, since the late 1950’s. Introductory chapters on theory and methods precede a description of the ethnographic context. Case studies illustrating parent and farmer histories of child health and land use change spanning fifty years are provided. Seven streams of biotechnical expertise are identified, and mini-ethnographies are provided for each including domestic, Buddhist, Muang, spirit, market, national, and Christian. These seven streams are analyzed using actor-network theory (ANT) with relationships to particular notions of ontology, cosmology, and ecology. Results demonstrate the ongoing importance of parents and farmers as decision making agents at the intersection of multiple and competing cultural and biotechnical streams, even where they face efforts by large multinational corporations or other agencies to advertise, constrain and monopolize local biotechnical choice. Within the fifty year time period under consideration, the oral histories describe particular child health and land use trends. These locally perceived trends provide challenging perspectives on the relationship between ‘development’ and child health in Thailand. While children die far less often now than in the past, oral histories suggest that both children and fields now suffer from more kinds of illness, and more often, than before. In particular, both qualitative and more quantitative analysis suggests differences in the experience of child health among pesticide and non-pesticide using households.
